Would definitely recommend two things, a reservation and an empty belly. This place is 100% worth your time and money. And it's Christmas every day here! What more could you want?? The prices are a little on the high side $25-$30/meal, however, you get bread, sticky buns, a salad, and a huge meal (leftovers anyone?). The waiters and waitresses are called "Bubble Scouts" and they dress up like boy scouts. And every worker was wearing either a Christmas hat or Christmas accessories. The dining rooms are full of trinkets backing all the way to 1930s. I mean this place could dual as a museum. There really wasn't one thing I could find to complain about. Britt, our "Bubble Scout" was very attentive and friendly. With an order of 10 people sometimes you expect something to come out not as ordered, but not at the Bubble Room! If you make a trip to the respected bathroom you may find iconic "hot" men (or women) from decades ago. The person above my johnny was "The King of Rock"... not a bad view while in there I might add. Very unique place, the store was full of memorabilia especially Christmas items. Service was excellent and the food was good. Got the French onion soup which was very good, usually when I get it, it is very salty, but this one wasn't, it was just very flavourful and cheesy. The grouper was tasty as well with the sweet salsa on top. I wanted to get red velvet but since the orange crunch cake was the award winner I had to get it. Prepare to take 3/4 of it to go. Eclectic, charming and innovative menu. The ambiance is unique and funky! We love coming here. We bought a house on Captiva and this has quickly become one of our favorite places. When the COVID pandemic hit, we were hoping that this wonderful establishment would survive, and we were so happy to see that it did! And with good reason. Everything on the menu is delicious, fresh and creative. The service is fantastic too. I highly, highly recommend the Bubble Room, to us it's a welcome departure from the average touristy places that are abundant on Sanibel and Captiva. This will be a highlight of your trip! A piece of CAptiVA history. Filled with kitschy antiques and memorabilia. Good food, good atmosphere and good cake. Bubble bread is a must. They previously charge for drink refills- they don't anymore. Had a party of 8 and had to wait for everyone to arrive to be seated. Got a table for 8 in 20 minutes at 530 on Friday. Why 3 starts? Firstly we picked up red velvet, chocolate torte, cheesecake last night! so so delicious. $30, expensive, delicious but disappointing that we were handed the cakes on styrofoam plates, wrapped in saran/plastic wrap! Glad I went to say I've been but probably won't ever go back. First neither of the two hostesses (one male and one female) greeted us when we walked in. They didn't even make eye contact, smile or speak! Decor is fun but very old, with some dirty. We were seated on the third floor and it was very hot and uncomfortable. Our waiter was great! Food tasted good but portions were small for the price! I looked at the menu on their website right before we went in. I thought the Carmen Miranda sounded good. It was $17.95 online and when we were handed our menu, prices had gone up even higher! It was $20.95! It looks big because it is served in a pineapple bowl but there was one small scoop of white rice that filed the bowl and very little fruit salsa (couldn't find it at first). Maybe a $10-$13 plate, not $21! Tasted good but needed more flavor. My husband and son said theirs tasted good but overpriced too. Also, I know the parking lost is a pain but it's been that way since I've been going and I've been going for 24 years....just embrace it and walk around the puddles. And again, get a piece of cake! The coconut and red velvet are the best I've ever had! Please also ask about the history of the place. The original owner opened t with her then husband. The place is decorated with their personal collection of memorabilia from the 1920s-1960s. She was also a local artists and her work is sold all Over Catina and Sanibel. After it was sold she opened a few more restaurants on the islands. This place is a cooks labor of love. Pro tip** go early for dinner before the rush to avoid a lengthy wait. This seemed to be a popular restaurant but I have no idea why. We had to wait about 30 min before getting a table, it smelled awful inside was dirty. My daughter ordered a filet It was not great especially for the price and the totts weren't even good. the bread was disgusting and had heard so much about it. The Greek Salad was good though. Loved everything about this place! We visited before Christmas and listened to previous reviews to get there early to get our name on the list. Our family of 5 got in right after they opened and had our own room to ourselves for the majority of our meal. Overall, not a good experience at the Bubble Room. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait long. They told us 45 minutes and we only had to wait about 15. Our server was terrible. Hardly paid attention to us and when he did, he was often forgetful. The bread was pretty good (especially the sweet rolls). Our food was very subpar. My fiancé found a lid in his glass of water (see picture below). They then gave him a new water that had sweet roll icing inside of it. Finally, on the third try, he got a clean water. The desserts were super good. I would not recommend the Bubble Room for dinner. Save your money and just get some of their delicious desserts instead! read more

Went in here this week for the first time after hearing all of the locals rave about it. Upon entering we were greeted by a friendly hostess who set us up at a table within the train car. Throughout the restaurant they have a Christmas theme with different ornaments, figurines, and lights in various rooms. FYI, the reason they call it the bubble room is from their use of the classic Christmas bulbs that look like glass candles that bubble up inside. Our waitress took our drink order and provided us with menus. We were there for the famous Orange Crunch cake so it was an easy decision. We had coffee and it was fabulous. The unusual speechless gentleman in charge of the cake cabinet brought us a slice of the orange crunch for us to share. We immediately dug in and found it super sweet and delicious. It definitely exceeded our expectations. So much so that we asked our server what the cake was made up of. Shockingly she looked at us in a strange manner and responded with, "we're not allowed to give that out" and quickly walked away. So, other than the odd manner of how the staff acts in this establishment, we enjoyed our time here and would go back again to try the other desserts. read more

The Bubble Room is a heavily decorated, colorful and fun restaurant. On my visit, I ordered the Calypso at Midnight. It's green salad with walnuts, fruits, bleu cheese, and I added shrimps. The sweetness of the mangoes, the bitterness of the cheese and the crunchiness of the walnuts created a perfect harmony of flavors. I absolutely loved it and I would drive again from Orlando to this restaurant just for that salad. That's how much I enjoyed it. My only critic was the service. Here's what happens: I call a week before the party to order. I was told that they cannot put a whole cake aside, just in case they need it to slice for guests. I explained that I wanted to order it....not have one put aside. I was going to pay for it. Anyway, I was told to call in a pick up order the day I wanted it. Grrrrrr. On the day of the party, I call for pick up at 11:30. According to their website they open at 11:00. No answer. I send my niece by the restaurant to see what's up, and she says they were closed. The Bubble Room has always been a family favorite & for the most part it was just as good as always with a few minor exceptions. I overheard a Bubble scout, aka server, mention something about a new owner so maybe that's the reason for the changes. First of all, the Bubble bread & cinnamon buns are not the same & not as good. The wonderful cheesy concoction was the same but the bread is clearly different than before. The cinnamon buns are bigger now but fairly tasteless. I never found a hint of cinnamon. The food was delicious as it always has been, thank goodness. Lastly, the main reason for our visit, dessert! The cakes are still amazing! Trust me, the get cake or key lime pie. As a child vacationing on Captiva it was a treat to have a dessert brought back from The Bubble Room by your parents. It was a magical adventure in the early 1980s and it is the same today in 2021! In the mid 1980s the Katie Cake was a red velvet special. Today 30 years later it is equally as magical. The decor inside the restaurant is over the top fun and I hope one day to bring back my families younger generation to experience what I have as memories at this fun restaurant. We got a slice to go of the famous key lime pie. It should make those in key West shudder with envy ! It is tart, sweet, and creamy. The gram cracker crust is buttery, thick and to die for!!! The red velvet cake is a massive portion and the icing makes it creamy and chocolatey. Keep it up, don't stop and I hope the Bubble Room last for generations to come!!! read more

Well yes its iconic and yes the building is 102 years old but it also feels like it hasn't been cleaned in 100 years. Whats a bubble scout? Thats what they call the servers. Anyway...the place is off putting and smells a bit. No view and parking is awful. The food......unimaginative, overpriced and produced without much care. I had a burger. Over cooked. This was probably the biggest disappointment of all the places we ate during our vacation to Sanibel/Captiva. The hostess "lost" our reservation after we checked in, so the extra wait time pushed our kids over the edge. No apology from anyone. Food was mediocre in relation to the price. (Kids buttered noodles, nothing else as a side was $10) Drinks were watered down and at $18 we expected to at least taste the liquor. Poor service right out of the gate may have set the negative tone, and the lack of acknowledgment that they screwed up will keep us away from this restaurant during future visits. Another "tourist trap" restaurant that we ended up being pleasantly surprised by. We arrived right when they opened (11 am) on Wednesday after shelling at Blind Pass Beach. There was a line but we got seated right away on the third floor (we opted for dine-in seating for the full experience and got the table by the stairs that seemed the farthest from other folks, but be aware that there is not much happening in terms of distancing here). Staff are in masks. The decor is silly and outrageous, and completely entertained our daughter the entire time we were there. There was a parrot above our table that went on and off, three dancing ladies across the room, and a train that was going on a circuit all around--on top of the excess of everything else going on in general. The whole thing is ridiculous, of course, but we couldn't help going along with it and having a good time. Our "bubble scout" Celine was very competent and sweet but she lagged a bit toward the end of the meal as her section started filling up. Food was not as bad as we were expecting. The "Tutti-Frutti O'Rudi" (yeah, get used to the names) had legitimately fresh fruit on it and even though we found the yogurt too sweet, our daughter did like it. "Carolina Moons" is essentially nachos but made with potato chips: too big, too greasy, but a couple bites scratch that salty itch. We both shared (and tremendously enjoyed) the "Million Dollar Mermaid Salad" which was just plain good by any standard. All the fish on it as a reinvented Cobb tasted fresh and there was a healthy amount of other ingredients with a nice, light dressing on the side. For dessert we split the Orange Crunch cake (had to!), and all three of us loved it--the layers were super moist, the crunch was a nice touch and the frosting wasn't too overwhelming. (We bought a chocolate moist cake to bring to our friends in Fort Myers and they said it was very good as well.) We're shocked that we liked this place as much as we did and can see ourselves coming back at some point when we're in the Fort Myers area again. The food was fine (oh yeah, we had a couple cocktails that were overly sweet) but our daughter's delight about everything warmed our hearts. We even went across the street to get a couple T-shirts in the gift shop (where face masks are "preferred"; oh, Florida, sigh) as souvenirs. 3.5 stars, rounding up. read more

Made the trip down from Clearwater just so our ten year old could experience the magic of our 30+ year love affair w the Bubble Room- it never disappoints. Our Bubble Scout, Jen was amazing. ( I swear all wait staff should be trained by Bubble Scouts- they are superior.) We knew what we wanted immediately as once you've had their food it stays with you. Carolina Moons, Bubble Burger, Mae West, and of course their world famous Red Velvet. Omg! Still the Best! Evokes so many memories. The stars here are the desserts. I got my to go. An Orange crush & red velvet. BIG slices at 7.95 a pop. Big, sweet ,moist, too much for just person at one time. EXCELLENT NOW CHATTER... This was an hour drive from the Cape on a Monday. Expect 2 hours on a weekend. This is an old fashion tourist spot. I heard German, Japanese & Spanish spoken while there. This is a nice touristy drive. 70 + years in the making . No handicapped parking, two small bridges to enter building, unpaved unmarked parking lot. Nice friendly staff.
