I saw this place on IG and I really wanted to try it. It had bad ratings but I wanted to try for myself. Wish I hadn't. The food is super salty, low quality ingredients, and barely any meat in the sandwiches/burgers. Very disappointing. Great concept but definitely a miss. It's a no for me, dog.

'Volcano' burger ($10): 1/2lb beef patty stuffed with American cheese. It was unseasoned and undercooked.

DON'T HAVE A COW, MAN Unseasoned and undercooked patties spell disaster for this burger spot in Naperville. My wife and I stopped here to grab some food on our way to Solemn Oath brewery, where we'd reserved a private igloo to celebrate the birthday of yours truly. I have to preface this review by saying we sought out the *closest* burger place, not the *best* one, in an effort to make sure our dinner was still warm by the time we sat down. After placing an order at the counter, they asked us to wait in our car until the food was ready. The Burger Life's menu recycles a lot of the same toppings (gyros, fried egg, bacon, etc) and I wasn't terribly impressed with what I saw. For the most part, the burgers are very basic. My 'Volcano' ($10) was a thumbs-down. The idea was straightforward: a 1/2lb patty stuffed with American cheese, w/red onion, tomato, lettuce, and zinger sauce. Tragically, the burger itself was flavorless, and the middle was rare-to-dark red. It also had a mushy texture, leading me to believe it was frozen and not cooked properly. On the other hand, Nichole S enjoyed the 'Lonestar' ($9.50), a cheeseburger topped with bacon, bbq sauce, and an onion ring. She did, however, comment that it too was "seriously lacking in flavor", so this is a systemic issue with how TBL seasons their patties (if they're seasoned at all). Meal combo included decent curly fries. Onion rings ($5) had nice crispy breading. They have something on their menu called the 'Harambe', a gargantuan entrée consisting of 3 cheeseburgers, a chicken patty, philly steak, gyros and bacon doused in cheese sauce ($22). It's impossible to eat normally so they give you a knife & fork (and presumably, an AED). I'm not sure if this is a clever nod to our departed comrade, or straight up culinary sedition. * TL;DR * The Burger Life has a lot of work to do if they want to be taken seriously in the burger community. Or should I say.....com-MOO-nity? Some people might find their offerings passable, but knowing how delicious a burger can be -- Kuma's Corner, Empire -- this place was a total let down. The burger ideas were boring and poorly executed; above-average curly fries & onion rings can't make up for a woefully nondescript meat patty. Instantly forgettable.

Tried their baba burger second time and it was just as good as the lone star burger I had last time. Their curly fries definitely didn't disappoint either. Also this time their cooler section was restocked- it had cherry Pepsi, vanilla Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Sierra Mist, and bunch of other flavors.

    Chicken Tenders

My son ordered chicken tenders smothered in BBQ sauce and they are soo good! We made it a meal with onion rings, and WOW! their onion rings are big and delicious. I had to sneak a few . My keto meal of gyros without pita, smothered in pepper jack cheese, and topped with zinger sauce was AMAZING. Everything tasted fresh even though we picked up at 9 pm at night! They must have gotten new management because last summer their food quality was really lacking. Glad we decided to give them another chance. Whatever they're doing now, I hope they stay consistent and keep doing it!

I ordered online for carry out and the platform was easy to navigate. Once my husband and I arrived at the resto we were greeted by a very kind staff member. Our food wasn't ready but within 5 mins of us being there it was good to go. We tried the wonton soup and chicken dumplings app. Both were on the bland side. Normally I'm used to wonton soup also having noodles and theirs does not. Flavors were OK, felt like both dishes were missing spices. Everything was cooked perfectly though. Maybe we ordered the wrong items from here and need to try others instead.

In my experience, this signifies either the place was going to be a shithole to pass up, or it was a serious place to eat, then get out and go somewhere with an atmosphere. Happy to say J's (IMHO) is a serious place to eat. No-nonsense, direct and to the point. When I walked in, all those common chairs I mentioned were stacked upside down on the tables in the way that places do when they are closed. The taciturn fellow who worked there assured me they were indeed open, and explained they had just finish washing the floor. Please dont read any of this as negative-the best Chinese places I've ever been have looked like this-and if you've paid attention to the Travel/Food shows on the TeeVee, the joints in China itself are pretty much the same. On to the food, know this place is a Serious REAL-DEAL Chinese resto. I didn't notice if there were "Occidental" Chinese-type dishes on the carte, (primarily 'cos I wasn't looking for them). What I saw looked yum, and had a hard time making choices, even though I had read the menu multiple times and thought I know what I was going to order in advance. Confessionately, this is a chief feature for my tortured dining self-It's a wonder I even get fed in restaurants (especially the great ethnic ones), due to option anxiety. I zeroed in on "Street Noodles" for starters-wouldn't you? Then went to "Cold Beef Shank" for entreé. The Noodles were fab as was the Shank. The noodles were in a broth. with some hunks of bok choy and ground meat on top. Hearty, still light. The shank had a thin sauce complimenting but not obscuring the beefiness. One bugaboo: the Shank needed a bit of seasoning, and I wasn't going to use soy sauce, as I believed that would have marred the subtle flavors of the Beef. I asked for a salt shaker. It arrived, and I was a little taken back, 'cos it appeared it hadn't been washed in a while, and the salt inside was caked. It occurred to me this condition was present due to the non-use of said shaker. I don't think I've ever asked for a salt shaker in a Chinese resto. I pulled a toothpick out of my "Murse" and broke up the caked NaCl. Applying same to the pieces of Shank, the flavor bloomed and I was a happy boy. Bring some salt packets along when you visit "J's", maybe. The fellow who was waiter and cashier was a "western" fellow, whom I engaged and turned out to be quite an experienced foodie. some pleasant conversation indeed. Throwing 4 for this excellent establishment, with a few grains of salt separating it from 5...

My wife spotted this place across the street - Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay. How could we go wrong? Well, we couldn't. The interior was smartly outfitted - the lighting, the ceilings, the walls, were all classy and nicely done. Service was outstanding - water and soft drink glasses were refilled regularly, and the table checked for food quality on multiple occasions. I was intrigued by their Prime Rib Sandwich, which is served with onion crisps. I went for the $4 upgrade to Truffle Fries. The sandwich was LARGE, very tasty, and just plain wonderful to eat. The Truffle Fries added a bit of spice to the meal. My wife had their Fish & Chips. When I saw the sandwich on the side just coming out of the kitchen, I was wondering how she'd eat it, since the piece of fish was BIG. Like How Do I eat this BIG. She used her knife and fork and got the job done. Great food, great service, nice location right on Jefferson Avenue. What a great place! We'll have to come back for Dinner!

Ambience was fine, not overly impressive, we could hear the expediter and the kitchen. Service seemed average, waitress was friendly but not overly attentive, especially with how few tables they had at the time. Had a mocktail that was so nondescript as to be completely unmemorable. Coffee was good, just hard to get enough refills. Potato-leek soup with chili oil drops resembled thin baby food, and was so tasteless, we had to request salt and pepper. They didn't even have salt and pepper shakers; it came in small tumblers. The Beef Wellington from the prix fixe menu was smaller than expected for the price. The beef was fine but was more like a filet than a beef tenderloin. The mushroom coating was far too earthy and tasted a little bit like dirt. The pastry was kind of raw on the inside. The sides that came with the Beef Wellington were a schmeer of mashed potatoes - which were okay - and a tiny pile of steamed carrots and leeks. The chocolate tart was good, but not incredible. Did not live up to the hype or the "Ramsey Reputation;" will probably not return. Overall experience - kind of "meh."

I spoke with the lady and confirmed it was going to be pan-Asian food and all halal! She told me the opening date was November 1st. Today I stopped in, and sure enough it was open. The lady (who I believe is Yola) told me they planned to rotate dishes and will include various Asian dishes, like Thai food. Today they had fried rice, crispy noodles, shrimp, fried chicken drumsticks/wings, chicken lollipop, and diced chicken & potatoes. They even had duck! It all looked good, but I decided to try fried rice with the diced chicken & potatoes, along with a few pieces of chicken lollipop (which is like fried chicken on a stick, or bone). I brought the food to my parent's house for a family dinner. I really enjoyed the food. The fried rice wasn't out of this world, but the chicken lollipop was really good and the chicken & potato dish was pretty good. I love Asian food, so I'm stoked about having a halal option. The food was sold by weight, and I feel we got a decent value. This isn't a place you can go to for a nice dinner out, but a good takeout option. Looking forward to trying other dishes here.
