So me and my buddy are doing the downtown Melbourne restaurant gauntlet. Over the last few weeks we have been choosing a different restaurant to eat lunch and hang out. We arrived at 11:35 on a Thursday and the place was not busy at all. We were, according to our order number, the 13th order of the day. Both of us had burgers and shared a large fries. Understand this, and you should totally be aware of this before going in. All of the food at this place is cooked to order. You are going to have to wait for your food, and it's not going to be super fast. We knew this going in and it wasn't a surprise to me that our food took almost 25 minutes to come to us. Now onto the food. Both of our burgers were well done. But they were still surprisingly juicy. I had a bacon cheeseburger with cheddar cheese, lettuce, and tomato. My buddy had a regular cheeseburger with mushrooms and onions. And here's where the 1 star deduction comes in. The fries, although crispy, were like the bottom of a bag of fries. Just small pieces of fries that were not even able to be picked up to dip. I ended up with the option of using a fork and stabbing them. They were also on the greasy side. Good seasoning but a bit greasy. We left around 12:30 and the line was out the door and down the street. Maybe 15-20 people deep. A very popular lunch spot. I am so sad to leave this review. We went to The Burger Place today craving a good burger and a milkshake. I've been eating here since they opened. They've gotten really expensive but their food is SO good. We ordered two cheeseburgers with fries, two cokes, and a small milkshake. It was over $60. Sat down and while waiting for our food we watched the woman who rang us up and gave us our drink cups (who was also running all the food) handle the garbage. No gloves, bare-handed, open up this big garbage can and push the garbage down, tie it up, touch the door handle to put the bag outside, replace multiple trash bags, touching the lid, the can, everything...then walk right back into the front area (right past the sink and hand sanitizer) and just start ringing people up. Touching the kiosk, the money, their drink cups...and was handling all the food! I couldn't believe it. Who touches garbage and doesn't wash their hands...in ANY setting. Especially when they're in a restaurant and handling food. Garbage full of people's food waste, that has touched their mouths, tissues full of snot, there was a baby on the patio, a diaper could have been in that can for all I know. I was immediately repulsed. I asked for a refund before our food arrived because I couldn't think about eating it if she had any part in it. The manager accommodated that without issue but didn't seem too concerned. And when the woman was notified of the issue, she didn't go to the sink, and continued about her business. Honestly, the Health Department could be notified of that. People can get seriously ill. It doesn't matter how tasty your food is. I'm not paying $60 for Hep A or Giardia. The Burger Place, take note: please let go of Typhoid Mary or you'll have problems down the road guaranteed. read more

I don't crave burgers often, but when I do want one, it has to be a really great, thick, medium rare burger with cheddar cheese; so I came here with great expectations and they did not disappoint me! Their grill-meister knows how to cook the burgers a perfect medium rare! And every component of the burger is great; the burger patties are thick enough to get a true medium rare temp and they make their own buns and use good quality fresh romaine lettuce, ripe tomato slices & sliced onion unlike some places than only have shredded iceberg, un-ripe tomatoes & diced onion. Their fries are fresh-cut, house-made as well. Unlike other reviewers that want to lump The Burger Place in with other burger joints, such as 5 Guys etc, I will say that there is no comparison to those types of burgers, that are too thin to get medium rare, and don't stack up in the bun, condiments or fries departments either. I am not tempted by these other burger places that only have thin burgers, shredded lettuce & no real cheddar cheese. I will not eat American cheese, because I don't like the taste of it, or that, most often, it's a hydrogenated oil product, full of undesirable and unsavory ingredients that make it unnatural and not a real cheese (pet peeve!). The Burger Joint may seem to be too pricey to those that aren't connoisseurs that appreciate great quality foods, that are more labor intensive and worth the price. Cute little old school burger joint. I love the clean yet vintage look of the inside. The old photos of the area are a nice touch. They definitely nailed the aesthetic. There are three different size burger options, fries, shakes and a chicken finger option for kids. There are also veggie burgers which are vegan if you get them without the bun. There are many free topping options (jalapeños and sautéed mushrooms in addition to the usual tomatoes, lettuce, onion), which is always nice. As a vegan I ordered the veggie burger without a bun and fries- both of which were good. Several people at our table ordered the Mega burger which is 16 oz (huge!) and I'm told was pretty good. We had five kids with us which all ordered either burgers or chicken fingers which are served in cute cardboard cars. A few people also ordered shakes and said they were pretty good.
