This is one of my favorite coffee spots to go to of all time. The interior is amazing. The moment you walk in, it is already a wonderful experience. They have a main menu, and some seasonal drinks where they partner with chefs to develop a creative and delicious seasonal drinks! I've come here several times, and I love everything they do. Their pastries are fantastic. I love all of their coffees. My favorites on the speciality menu are the butterscotch or golden milk lattes. Those never disappoint and they are always the perfect level of sweetness, creaminess, and beautiful. The last time I visited, I tried a black sesame latte collab they did and it was wonderful as well! So delicious and I loved the nutty sesame flavor and that the black sesame and coffee didn't overpower one another. The baristas are always very nice as well and they always brew drinks with beautiful art! The interior is so stunning so we had to come for another visit to check out their pastries. We got the kouign amann and it was delightfully crispy and flavorful. It was a nice pastry to try and we will be back to keep trying their pastries and my partner will try out more of the drinks. read more

Arrived at 7:30AM and it was already super busy but the baristas are kind and full of energy ready to serve. I got their limited time summer drink (until 9/5) the Cafe Sua Matcha, viet coffee with a matcha cream top and an almond croissant. The drink is a tad bit sweet for my taste but it is very good. There's a strong coffee taste with a light matcha cream to balance it. The almond croissant is a 3.5/5 for me, but I appreciate that they really bake it. Despite how busy they were on a weekday morning, they're receptive and the ambiance is not too noisy and bright. The architecture and design is air nice on the eyes. Lighting is not the best for work, but great if you have a book. read more

Their butterscotch latte is fantastic! Not too sweet, just the right amount. Perfectly balanced - I can taste the great quality coffee as well as the toasty butterscotch flavor coming through. Modern, lively and unique coffee spot right in the heart of downtown Oakland. I spend very little time in this part of town, so I was surprised to find that Oakland does have a somewhat bustling business district. By the time I left there was a line out the door! Already busy when they opened at 7AM, but staff were ready and friendly esp so early in the morning. Parking can be tricky. It's nice that it's right by Bart, if that's your method of commuting. The place is modern and decor is minimal but still somehow looks majestic. There is a lot of variety of drinks and pastries. Staff was patient and recommended their butterscotch latte because it was my first time there. I was worried it was going to be too sweet per another review, but it wasn't at all. It was more buttery. I also ordered their bacon onion croissant which was good but the bacon kept falling off as they were bacon bits. If parking was easier, this would definitely be a good go-to coffee shop. They have limited seating inside. Great for anyone working nearby. read more

I'm already planning my next visit to The Caffe! This place knows how to do coffee as well as baked goods!! I opted to the hojicha latte! It was earthy and rich and really delicacies. I had a sip of my husband's butterscotch latte and that's def a must try. It's on the sweeter side but so tasty. Their cookies are their own and taste deliciously home made!! They're soft and sweet and would pair well some black coffee. Their focaccia is soft and has so many inclusions. We ordered one with olives is was for sure abundant in olives. We also had pastrami in it and the pastrami def tasted high quality. They don't have any tables but there is bar seating. They have floor to ceiling windows which gives a nice bright atmosphere and it's perfect for some people watching while enjoying your coffee and treats. You can tell the staff cares about their product and serving their customers the best. read more

They have very interesting and unique creations and the service is always superb - friendly service especially by Vee and Jeanette They also do seasonal drinks but our go to is always the tiger coffee and the butterscotch latte. The café has a cute, modern vibe with high-top seating in the back, and the drink prices are reasonable. Found a spot with an amazing sweet cream cold brew, definitely my go-to. The staff were very friendly! They have a lot of specialities on the menu and they were patient to explain what they offered. I ordered the cold brew with sweet cream and it was great. Not super strong and bitter, which is how I prefer. I also got light sugar and it was perfect. There's not too many seats or space, so wouldn't recommend to work here. read more

My friend posts her coffee here on IG at least once every couple of weeks, so fine I'll bite. What's the hype?? I was on an errand in the area, so I had about 15 minutes to stop by. I managed to find meter parking, but otherwise the area isn't super parking friendly. I'm sure there are parking garages nearby with Fox Theater down the road if you're looking to stay for a longer period of time. Barting here is easier since 12th St Oakland station is only 2 blocks away! Butterscotch Latte ($5.75): I initially ordered this less sweet and my barista forgot to adjust it, but I actually really liked it in its full sweetness level. It wasn't as sweet as I expected it to be, and the butterscotch with the coffee went well together. If I had more time, I would've sat there for hours because the interior is so sleek and calming with its warm tones. There's also a used bookstore called The Bookmark across the street that I wanted to walk around with my coffee. Next time I'll spend the day here and try the horchata cold brew! read more

Had to try The Caffè as my coworkers would rave about it. The first time I tried it, I got a tiger coffee and ooooh I was caffeinated! The drink itself was delicious. A little sweet for me personally, but as the ice melted it was perfect. The second time I went in store and got a golden latte, recommended by the friendly barista. While it isn't my favorite, I can see the appeal and I'm glad I got a chance to try it. The inside is modern and chic and very aesthetic and IG friendly. The Caffè by Mr. Espresso might be my favorite cafè in Oakland. I can feel its values immediately and it always feels good when I enter so much so that I find myself staying to do work here. They offer two kinds of espresso. I find myself getting both every time. The baristas each show their amazing abilities with this drink and also the beans which are so vibrantly different for both. Solage in Napa also has Caffè by Mr. Espresso pour-over bags in every room and they're stellar. I'd love to see them in every hotel room, even if not bougie, as they're the best! The baristas are aware, positive, and kind. It makes the people who stay awhile exude this too, and the table where people work is always very considerate. Oakland Excellence, all around. read more

An absolute must visit when in Downtown Oakland. The Cafe by Mr. Espresso has been on my 'East Bay Coffee Heads' collection since day 1! I really love how they collaborate with local chefs in the Bay to create fun drinks that reinvent just grabbing a cup of coffee. In 2023, I first visited and tried their limited Orange Creamsicle Cold Brew topped with cold foam and candied orange peel. I was immediately hooked! Gosh, I was so sad when that item came off the menu. I almost hesitated to try their new collabs going forward because I knew I would be so heartbroken when it was the end of the collab period. I'm super grateful that their Cold Brew Tonic is one of their staple menu items, because it reminds me *a little bit* of the orange creamsicle cold brew in terms of acidity and fruitiness. Another absolute banger of a drink that they released was the Sago't Gulaman Iced Coffee in collaboration with Harold Villarosa. I was lucky enough to try it on a Friday so I came back the next day and ordered three to go to save for the next few days since they're closed on Sundays. I had the opportunity to enjoy my coffee there the other week and tried their newest drink-- White Choke-Late! Who would've known that sunchokes could pair so well with coffee. The bar-style ordering is also quite interesting. It creates a very casual atmosphere between the customers and the baristas which I adore! Everyone is always so helpful and super quick to prepare your drinks. Even when there's a huge rush, the team always seems to be so level-headed. I absolutely recommend enjoying your drink there if you have the opportunity to. The vibes are immaculate, the drinks & pastries are top tier, and the service is excellent. I wish I had photos to upload especially since I've come here several times already for coffee and food. But I always dig in and finish before remembering to take the photo. This review is long overdue. I live just around the corner and this cafe has excellent coffee. I've tried the cold brew, drip coffee, iced lattes, Tiger coffee, matcha latte. I've had the pastries and the sandwiches--all excellent and tasty. I've tasted coffee during their tastings every third Friday. And today I had their Oakland restaurant week special which was a mortadella sandwich on their focaccia bread, a cookie, and any drink--all perfect. This cafe is awesome and so are the workers. My husband and I love getting a quick cup of coffee or latte here. It's convenient and always hits the spot. Next time, I'll remember to take a photo and upload! read more

I got espresso. I tried both the med/dark and light roasts. The Med dark roast (Neapolitan) had good layers and smooth texture. I mostly tasted dark chocolate bitterness but it got a little brighter/nutty towards the end. The body was a little light for my taste but still a well executed shot. 4/5 The Light roast was excellent. Good layers and creamy texture. Bright floral and spice (notes said clove) right away. High acidity but didn't take away from the shot. 5/5 Would definitely come back. read more

Finally got to try this place. Love the esthetic vibe of the cafe. I came here on Friday around noon with my partner and ordered 2 drinks (Horchata Cold Brew and Hojicha Black Sesame Latte). Both were so so so good!!! Horchata Cold Brew has a strong horchta flavor. The horchata taste was consistent. The Hojicha Black Sesame Latte is a seasonal drink so I had to try it. I'm a huge black sesame lover. The black sesame was strong unlike other black sesame drinks that I had in the past. Definitely recommend to give it a try if you're a black sesame lover like me. read more

I got the tiger coffee and it's delicious. Thank you to the kind worker who let me sample it because I couldn't decide between that and the butterscotch latte! If you like Thai tea you'll love this drink. The ambiance is bright and airy. Parking is limited to few metered parking around the street and garages that are probably expensive lol but it's right outside of bus stops and bart! This is one of my favorite spots to get coffee in the neighborhood, the fact that I live up the street (till I move end of July ) makes it perfectly convenient to walk to. I've tried all their coffee choices and some speciality drinks they have for special occasions. The staff are always sweet and kind, I've made it a habit to come and sit down have my coffee with friends and enjoy the beautiful architecture, perfectly structured for the of the shop. My go to drink are the Horchata Cold brew with an extra shot of espresso and Tocho Mocha, so delicious. I recently tried the Tiger Coffee and it's yummy! I'm adding that my rotation. read more

This is probably my go-to place when I'm feeling like a "fancier" coffee. High quality espresso, but not too pretentious. The typical espresso beverages are good as you would expect, but the specialty drinks are also tasty - I think the syrups are made in-house, and they do a lot of collabs with local chefs. My go-to is usually the butterscotch latte (so buttery!), but I also often get the nocciola-tte and whatever collab they have at the moment (the current holiday offerings are great). My mom really likes the aesthetic of drinking a cappuccino at an Italian-ish cafe (or maybe she just really likes saying the word "cappuccino?" unclear), so when she visited me for a week a year or two ago, we went here twice. I was visiting my sister in DT Oakland and decided to try out a new coffee shop. Out of all the shops that were walking distance the setup and menu of The Caffé caught my eye. I walked about 11 min to then walk in to one of the coolest/nicest coffee shop or may I saw coffee bar setups ever. You walk up to the counter and wait for someone to assist. A lovely gentlemen helped me chose between the Tiger coffee and the butterscotch latte which were there 2 most popular. I went with the Tiger coffee which is cold brew with Thai milk tea topped w/ cold foam. If you're a Thai tea lover like me I 100% recommend but I will say I still think about that butterscotch latte. The Nutella croissant was ok but I'm not really into pastries THAT much just wanted to try. All that said, I will 100% be back next time I'm in Oakland for that butterscotch latte. read more

My coffee was delicious. My experience, however, was not. While sitting in the cafe waiting on my beverage, there was an unhoused individual waiting for his coffee inside. The worker Mary told the individual to wait for his order outside. The male worker who took the unhoused individual's order informed her that the man paid for his coffee today, im assuming trying to reassure her he wasn't begging. Mary proceeds to make a disgusted face, and not quietly at all says "He SMELLS". Keep in mind at this point, the man is already outside because he received his coffee order. She then berates him even more, saying "Look, now he's outside talking to people." Feel however you want about unhoused individuals, but this man paid for his coffee, and peacefully waited and peacefully exited after receiving his order. How unkind of her. To speak so unkindly about someone who paid for a coffee, and so brazenly in front of customers. Full stank face and all. Even if this is how you feel, why have such a disgusting attitude so boldly in front of customers? I think us as humans should work on being more kind to others. This coffee shop was absolutely amazing and definitely on my top list of coffee places that I've been to and will be returning to this gem. I ordered the Butterscotch latte and had the perfect blend of smoothness and sweetness. This latte was served at the right temperature and presentation was on point. Also, ordered an Ube Mochi because I'm a sucker for ube. This mochi was very delicious and the chewiness was perfect. The ambiance was very modern and had a cool vibe, almost museum like. The coffee was amazing, but the staff stole the show. They were absolutely amazing and kind making my experience here memorable. Such a unique cafe with the most aesthetically pleasing interior. From the way they set up the pastries in a gorgeous display to the simple yet creative menu of drinks, I enjoyed my cafe experience. The butterscotch latte, which has a house made syrup that is truly delightful. I believe the only milk alternative they had was oat but since that is what I normally get it paired nicely with the latte. If you're looking to hang out here, they have a few seats in a bar area style behind the espresso bar. It does get fairly busy especially with the work crowds.
