If you know you know. This is a do not miss in my opinion. I thought it may be cheesy but it is one of the coolest bars I have ever been to. The Campbell is located in grand central but not where you would think. I don't want to ruin the surprise for you since it is a hidden bar for a reason. I would highly suggest reservations and if you're coming after 3pm you will need to be dressed up with no shorts. This is not a casual place. The ambiance was everything and the drinks were wonderful. They don't have much in terms of food but we ate at Bryant Park which is a short walk away. What a great, iconic place to have a couple of drinks in a wonderful setting. I'm not attaching any pictures in this review as they were a bit dark. We had someone bring us here who had been at an opening event about 3 years ago. Hidden off the beaten path, if you don't know that it is there, you would totally miss it. Well worth searching out and spending some time there. I'm sure others have already said this, but it is a converted apartment from the early 20's. The woodwork, the carvings, the space just exudes such a cool, classy vibe. The place is small so it can be hard to get a spot, especially on weekends. Well worth it to go and have this experience. As noted, the lighting is low, and it reminds me of an old speakeasy in some ways, so that should give you a good approximation of the vibe this place has. The bartender that we had was a super nice gentleman who is truly a mixologist, not just a bartender. He had on a vest, armband, was very clean cut, pressed and starched shirt, well-spoken and attentive to his customers. I believe that his name was Justin, (Not 100% sure), and he truly made the experience memorable. He took care of every customer as if they were the most important person in the place. Even offered to take some pictures of us without us having to ask. Drinks were a little pricey, but well worth it from the atmosphere of the place and the attention that we received. Drinks were spot on, every single one. The experience here justifies every penny. There was a 3-piece jazz combo with a singer that started playing around 10pm the night we were there. They were truly talented and entertaining. Not so loud that you couldn't talk, but a wonderful background sound. And now I'm going to be a bit geeky. In a lot of places, it is easy to pinpoint exactly where the music is coming from. Due to the wonderful acoustics in this room, the sound actually seemed to go over you and you could hear it equally well wherever you were in the room. Sitting at the bar, the sound in my left ear was almost exactly the same as the sound in my right ear which was facing where the band was. It was crazy immersive, and you rarely get that true "surround sound" effect unless the venue has been specifically designed and built to accomplish that effect. Some people don't care about that kind of thing, but it was a very pleasant surprise and worth noting. If you get the opportunity, it's a great memory to have of enjoying a cocktail in a really wonderful venue that evokes the past so very well. Cheers! read more

We arrived at 11pm on a Monday night, the place was maybe 30% of max capacity. The initial drinks took 30 mins... it gets worse... as it is my girlfriend's birthday at midnight, at 11:56 I asked the waitress to purchase a round of shots for the table but only if it can come in 3 minutes(by midnight or else we don't want it). She confirmed it'll be there as the bartender can make it immediately. 12:01, drinks weren't here, so I went up to the bar and told them to not bring it anymore, to which she acknowledged and confirmed. A few minutes later the manager walks up with the 4 shots and said hey they were already made. I told him I wanted the drinks by 12 or not bring it at all as it loses the purpose and politely asked for the check. He gave me a look and took the drinks back. Then when the bill came, it was 8 drinks on the bill with a 25% gratuity pre-added to the final bill -- not to mention he threw and slammed the bill at the table-- (it's not me imagining the whole table saw it). I was fuming and went back up to him and was like yo man why is there 8 drinks on there when we only got 4? He goes *sarcastic tone* "oops my mistake" - I also told him to leave it off the pre added tip and he said "well This is my place I'll add whatever I want to it, if you leave I'll call the cops right now". I asked to speak to the manager and he said "I'm the manager." Needless to say, I'm never coming back here again. For anyone who hasn't been, if you see an old semi bald white short guy with glasses and beard, just walk out cuz you'll probably get similar service that I did :) read more
