Yummy yum yum yum! It's been years since we've been here but what were we thinking?! Best all around Chinese food we've had in a long time. Mongolian beef was tender as s**t, the perfect spice and flavor profile was out of this world. BBQ pork fried rice was perfect with no fatty pork pieces, pot stickers were cooked perfectly (I wasn't a fan of an herb in there but i was out voted), hot and sour soup doesn't have big gloopy egg chunks or stringy bamboo shoots like some. It was perctly spiced and just what my son needed for his cold. I never clear my plate. Not sure why but oo alwaYs leave a little something (I'm weird) this plate was clean before I i knew it and i went back for more. I was bummed when they told me 45 minutes to pick it up, but now i see why. it's fresh and made to order and worth every calorIe. The Canton is to Chinese food what Kinka sushi is to Japanese food. First of all, don't know if this business is legit because it's never open. I came their once on my daughters recommendation, we took the family and some friends out to dinner. The waitress looked very annoyed at the size of our party, 8 I think it was. Also she was very unfriendly. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could. Went there for dinner and the prices were pretty reasonable. The best part was the Crispy and Spicy Szechuan Beef ($8.50) though the Hunan Beef was pretty good too (lots of different veggies with that) The pot stickers left something to be desired ($5.50 for 6), and the crab puffs didn't taste like they had any crab, just cream cheese. Second time coming here. Food is ok not bad . Wait time is ok and its very clean . I had the lunch Special and comes with soup . So is good a little watered down but flavor still good. I got sweet and sour soup. My dish had fried rice which was really good. And also chick and green beans was also really good. I would come back if I'm around for sure. Good service. This is the third time we have been here. I have had something different each time. My wife loves the fresh lemon chicken so much she has it each time. I have had the sweet and sour pork, beef and vegetables, cashew chicken and spicy and crispy seczhwan beef. The flavor is outstanding and the seasoning is spicy but not overbearing. Consistently delicious Chinese dishes and dim sum (yummy Har Gow and Potstickers). I am so glad that I found this restaurant! So far all of their stir fry sauces are distinctly different. The sizzling rice soup is my favorite and they give you so much! i don't know about you but i love day old cold Chinese food and some places just falls apart over time and gets gross. the Canton's does not! Theres a reason why I go to San francisco / east bay to get Chinese food and that is because thats where you find authentic Chinese food. This place is not bad but they fill their food with water chestnut to make it look like theres a lot. We ordered Seafood egg drop soup and it had chunks of water chestnut and it honestly tasted like fish sauce. We asked the waiter if the spicy prawn was the same as salt and pepper prawns and she said I dont know and didnt offer to ask another waitress or the cook until I asked her to. First of all,it would be a good idea for the waitresses to know the menu. Luckily, they're pretty nice. The spicy pork weren't spicy at all and I tasted more batter than meat but the flavor was good. Best Chinese food in Petaluma! We have been to The Canton many times and they never fail to disappoint! The Canton is owned by one family always working and cooking, therefore many people say they turn guests away as they can only serve around 6 tables at a time. We have never been turned away and the wait is always non-existent. The service is always prompt and friendly and they are always knowledgeable! I have never once had a piece a food I haven't liked at The Canton and I have never gotten a MSG headache. The soups are always great especially the Wonton and Hot and Sour, I always go for their amazing pot-stickers and sometimes the onion pancake I also always get my favorite szechwan chicken and hot and crispy beef! The Canton is a quick, easy and amazing Chinese Bistro in the Heart of Petaluma and I hope to be back soon! read more

This place is really good! We're just visiting Petaluma and stumbled upon this place. It was really quite there (which was nice) and the food was so delicious. Our waitress was very nice and the food came out really quick. We had the dinner plates so got soup, spring roll and 2 entrees. (Mongolian Beef was yummy!) I don't usually write reviews this is my first one ever) as I think everyone has both good and bad days, however this place did not sit well with us. We used to go here years ago and last weekend I wanted some egg drop soup. My husband went down there and walked in on Saturday at 11:50am (they opened at 11:30) and did not see anyone, customer or employee. When he called out announcing that he was there and wanted to place a to go order a voice called back saying she was busy eating her lunch and would be out to help him when she was done. What kind of customer service have they gone to? Only open 20 minutes and cannot take an order. read more

For over 15 years I've eaten here and never, ever had a bad meal. The Canton has the best Honey Walnut Prawns in the West. I've tried over fifty Chinese Restaurants so I should know. Actually four and a half stars. Have eaten here several times recently with friends, and it is now my favorite Asian restaurant in Petaluma. The interior is nice, new-looking, clean, and not overly lighted. Service is quick, friendly, and efficient. Prices are quite reasonable, and the food is very good., As other reviewers have mentioned, the ingredients are fresh, and no MSG is used. The veggies are crisp cooked, not overdone. One thing I really like is that for $3.50 more (as of this writing), you can add a salad, veggies, and white rice to any of the dinner entrees. The salad has a great peanut dressing and crispy rice noodles on top. There are many vegetarian options, which pleases me. We have not had a disappointing dish. The egg fu yung is fantastic -- two big pancakes, not like the thin ones you find elsewhere. I haven't been here for lunch, only dinner, but am anxious to try the dim sum. The worst dining experience of my life. I ordered the Fresh Lemon Chicken lunch special. I couldn't get the egg drop soup unless I paid $2.50 extra for a cup of it. The most poorly spent money in life. It was tasteless and by far the worst tasting soup. It reminded me of dishwater. Yup. That bad. Additionally, the menu just said FRESH lemon chicken. The dish arrived and it was a slab of fried chicken. To my surprise, I assumed FRESH meant not fried. After politely inquiring with the server about this, she argued with me and I quote told me, "it's not problem you didn't ask me how the meat was cooked!" To which I retorted, "It's not my problem your menu didn't specify how it was cooked." She brought me something else after getting into a fight with the cook in the kitchen as the entire dining room heard her screaming at him and obviously complaining about me. The food I was eventually given was salty and boring. Thank god I don't live here and I'll never be back again. What a terrible place, bad food, and overall horrible vibe. i absolutely love this place! when i worked in petaluma 99-01 i went at least twice a week and every time i left full and happy. the staff is always very friendly, the prices are quite reasonable, and the hot braised tofu is to die for. since moving to walnut creek i'm not in petaluma often but when we pass through we always stop, and actually i'll be in petaluma for business tomorrow and will definitely be having lunch at the canton. hot and sour soup is perfect and the chinese chicken salad is immaculate. i work in downtown sf now and i'd take the canton over yank sing any day of the week. read more

This is my go to place for chinese food. The service is a little slow but the food is awesome!!. My toddler loved their wonton soup and my husband of course their mongolian beef. I tried a little of everything and their flavors are always on point. We are definetely planning to go back soon. I,My husband and two first because it went to the Canton For this Chinese meal and a catch-up after five years of not seeing each other. We ordered a large variety of things from hot sour soup to lemon chicken ,Mushu pork ,orange chicken, pork fried rice, sweet-and-sour pork. My test of a good Chinese restaurant is on the hot and sour soup and their Mushu pork. Both were excellent well balanced made fresh. We were extremely pleased and since it was not an overly busy night we were able to sit there for three hours and visit and catch up with our lives. Probably great place for takeout. Food excellent but you take your chances if you want to dine in. We have been regulars but for the past few months 2 out of 3 times they tell us they have too many takeout orders, 45 to 60 minute wait but effectively tell you we won't seat you. Now I know why there usually isn't anyone sitting in the restaurant or maybe one other couple when we'd show up. We tried the Spicy and Crunchy Szechuan Beef - excellent, not goopy and too sweet like so many Americanized Chinese places. The Sa Cha Garlic Beef ordered off the dinner menu was also very, very good. I would order both of them again and don't know how I'll try new things there now dang it. So we also tried the dim sum Pan Fried Turnip Cake (very good if you've ever had these and liked them; maybe an acquired taste) and the dim sum Sesame Seed Puff (very good). I'd also order these again. I think I have finally found a my go-to Chinese place in Petaluma.
