My sweet friend also loves this place. Dinner was easy to decide on this week. I don't typically like being in VA but since I'm his "favorite" plus one, yes let's do it. Service is always great here! Can't remember a bad visit! Ambiance, typical "fine dining" atmosphere. I love that most patrons are dressy. I typically get steak when I'm here but he dines at this location at least once a week (he's loyal) and raved about the salmon. I listened and followed his recommendation. Let's get into it! Salmon - OMG I might have found my new favorite place to eat Salmon! Chef's kiss! Do not get well done, prepare it the chefs way! Sautéed spinach - was perfect! Went to The Capital Grille McLean location for the first time ever for a birthday celebration, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. Great food, very professional but club-like decor and atmosphere (as expected for this chain), but absolute tipping point was hands down the service. Jason C was an exceptional server: friendly, knowledgeable, exemplary service and style. Food was so good I only remembered to take a picture of the after dinner cappuccino but in our party we had the filet mignon, sea bass, and sides of asparagus and potatoes au gratin. I've been to The Capital Grille in DC before, but this was my first visit to the Tysons Corner location after being invited to a birthday lunch. We were offered a pre-fixe menu, which I actually appreciated because there was a solid variety of options. We started with crispy calamari and a bread basket at each table, followed by a choice of mixed greens salad or clam chowder. Entrée options included salmon with couscous, chicken breast with rice, steak frites, and a vegetarian option. For the table, we also received sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes to share - always a win . Dessert was a decadent platter of flourless chocolate cake, crème brûlée, and cheesecake. For a table of six, it was the perfect amount to sample and share . Unfortunately, the service was subpar. While I understand there were about 45 people in the room, this lunch was planned far in advance and should have been staffed accordingly. Simple requests took far too long - I asked for ketchup and by the time it arrived, my fries were already cold. Beverage service was also painfully slow, which took away from the overall experience . The restaurant itself is housed in an office building, and the signage isn't very visible from the main road. That said, I loved that they offer valet parking for just $5, a total steal for the area . The location is spacious overall, but the private room we were seated in felt tight for the size of our group. It would've been helpful if the organizers had been advised that the room might be too small. Overall, the food was delicious and the parking situation was ideal. Great food; great service. I wanted to take my wife out for a special meal and this was the perfect night. Not only did we have a great time, but we had a tremendously enjoyable evening. The setting was nice enough to call romantic and comfortable enough to enjoy the night out without feeling we we the only patrons. We started the evening off with their bread and some mocktails, which perfectly balanced the flavors. For starters we had the prosciutto wrapped mozzarella, and oh my gosh, so good. We also had soup, which were delicious. I had the French onion, and my wife a squash soup. For our main meal I went with the bone-in ribeye, and my wife the sliced filet mignon with cipollini onions. While I would say my steak was good, my wife's was great. For a (large) side we had the au gratin potatoes, which is the way to go. Whenever there is a special event at Fairfax Capital Grille, I love to be there for the delicious food, wine and especially the ambiance. Such a special event is their Wagyu and Wine. If you haven't yet, you need to go while it's going on. It's only for a limited time. I enjoyed it twice this year so far! I love to take home part of my meal and stretch that wonderful rich taste of Wagyu and the Truffle Fries as well as the House-made Chips. There is even a Chips and Caviar version, if you can indulge! It's wise to make reservations so that you can be seated in the area of your choice in the restaurant. There are even Private Dining Rooms and they are beautifully intimate. read more

I will say, the restaurant started getting busy a little later so something to keep in mind. Went for a birthday dinner and let the restaurant know in the online reservation details. They added some "flair" to the table, which was a nice touch. Had the crab and lobster crab cake as an appetizer. It was delicious! The menu said it was for 2, but it's just 1 large crab cake, fyi. Had the salmon as an entree and the other person had steak. Both were tasty. Also added asparagus as a side because I didn't notice that the menu mentioned that the salmon came with green beans (it does so I must have missed that). The Capital Grille in Tysons Virginia was an excellent choice for dinner and they also always have one of the best service. Food came out fairly timed considering a busy Saturday night. Valet parking is the only option and it was only $5, I was surprised how quickly they were able to greet me with a line four cars deep. I tried to tip the driver however he kindly said it can be done upon leaving if needed. The dry aged Kona steak was quite large and cooked exactly how I liked, the thick cut was ordered medium rare and the color in the center was precise. The highlight was the breads, both the raisin rye bread and the sourdough onion bread were so tasty. I would like to compliment the server for staying professional and brisk although one of the trays tilted and spilled onto my shirt sleeve, she was very apologetic and quickly came back with an extra napkin and attention to help absorb the excess water. I have been to the Pennsylvania Ave location numerous times and this location was more enjoyable and less of a scene. The decor and ambiance is really nice without being an overpowering steakhouse vibe. The appetizers, especially the calamari, shrimp and time were outstanding. The steaks were superb and the Lamp chops were giant. Deserts were typical steak hose fare, but all were exquisite. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive. read more

One of my favorite seafood and steak restaurants in the DMV. The service is excellent, the restaurant is sophistically decorated and the food is always consistent. My favorite cocktails are their Stoli Doli and Dirty martini. Their seafood tower is always fresh and easy to eat. On this occasion they had a porterhouse special that my husband and I shared. The server was apologetic & offered a new one but I opted to get the filet charred blue instead due to time constraints & it came out flawlessly executed. We would have appreciated a comped dessert as another reviewer who stated a similar issue received, especially considering we dropped 500+ on the dinner. Still, they were quick to resolve the issue. No problems after. -lobster & crab cake: delicious with large chunks of meat -caviar & caramelized onion dip: generous size. House chips were great & the dip itself was delicious. However, $38 is a steep price for what's offered. Would pass on this one next time -Scallops & lobster risotto: its a scallops dish with lobster meat mixed into the risotto. White tablecloths and most people were up dressed, but they didn't make a fuss and I didn't feel any judgement about me and my hoodie and sandals (eep). I loved this onion bread that they had in the bread basket... It came out toasty, warm and savory. I didn't care too much for the other breads which is surprising because I love rye bread--the one in our basket was a bit cold and hard. I liked the variety in the basket though. The sea bass was good -- it was a bit on the overcooked side, but the sauce made up for the slight dryness. I liked the mushroom and asparagus, and the sauce wasn't overpowering to any of the food's flavors. The Mac and cheese was a bit watery, but after mixing it and letting it sit a little bit it was fine. Good chunks of lobster and the pasta cut was interesting! Last time I visited, I had the lamb chops and ribeye, which were both outstanding. This time, I tried the lobster stuffed shrimp (not even on the menu but if you ask, they'll make it, and it's an absolute must), the clam chowder, the Wagyu burger, and finished with a slice of Key Lime Pie. Everything was flavorful and well prepared, though I have to say the Coconut Cream Pie edges out the Key Lime for me in terms of dessert. The service was excellent, and I really appreciate that the staff went out of their way to accommodate a special request like the lobster stuffed shrimp. Went there for lunch with my mom. First time going and I will admit the atmosphere and styling of the restaurant are impressive. The server was very helpful and went over everything on the menu including the specials. The bread was very good including a large cracker that I ended up finishing. They had a prix fixe lunch menu and I got that. It came with a starter and meal. I got a caesar salad which came with the most cheese I'd ever seen on a salad but was delicious. I got the steak frites for the meal which came with 10oz strip steak and duck fat fries. I asked for the steak medium to which the server said (that's pink throughout) to which is said perfect. When it came it was more like well done with only a tiny bit of pink on two slices. I could only eat a few pieces before stopping. The fries were fantastic. Crunchy and flavorful with the perfect amount of salt. When the server came by I showed him the steak and he said he'd take care of it. The manger came by shortly after and asked if they could prepare a new one to which I declined. He said he'd take it off the bill which he did hence the 4 stars. I got crème brûlée for dessert which was alright. It was a little too sweet but the berries that came with it were delicious. My mom got the clam chowder, Chilean seabass with mashed potato's and crème brûlée for dessert. I didn't try the chowder but she was raving about it. I did try the seabass which was amazing with a very generous portion. The mashed potatoes were also delicious with a fantastic flavor. A problem did arise at the end. When I went to pay I wanted to use a few Egift card codes but they kept saying they needed the physical cards. After a few minutes I decided to just pay with a credit card. It was very odd that they needed the physical cards because I had payed at 5 other Darden restaurants with them without any issue. Over all while very good, I was expecting a little better for the reputation and surprised they over cooked the steak. The payment issue was frustrating as well. We got some appetizers such as their calamari, bacon, and crab cakes. They were all delicious especially the crispy bacon. The wedge salad was alright. It was drowning in sauce and didn't have anything special to it. The steak was perfectly cooked. I got the bone in rib eye, and it was perfectly tender and seasoned. Their desserts were amazing. No slippers, shorts, T-shirts... etc Be prepared to spend at least $200 for a party of two without drinks. The servers and staff are all very welcoming and excellent. They have bar seats, high top chairs, or booths for walk-ins. They serve warm bread and a flat bread with sesame seeds on it. Mmm those were good even though they weren't the main course. I got the lobster bisque which wasn't all that worth for $18. I would skip it. The Lobster Mac n cheese was worth it as it comes out really hot on a cast iron. I also got the field greens salad, but I think the salad was overdressed and the seasoning was too strong. The dry aged porterhouse was really good. It was the special of the day. I wish I knew the price before ordering because it wasn't on the menu. I should have asked. The filet mignon was tender as you expect. In terms of coming out the way I wanted it cooked (medium rare), it was perfect. Meats were tender, well-seasoned, warm and easy to cut and consume. I did not get any beverages or dessert. The bill came out to be $220-ish and then tip so it was quite the expense for one meal. I would come like once a year for a steakhouse like this unless they have a good happy hour special. They did not have any happy hour menus. I did not want to use the valet service, so I parked at Tysons and walked over. I think that is one of the inconveniences of coming to this location is their valet rule for parking. I'd very much prefer to park myself. read more

A tough evening. When she asked, I told my wife that I wanted a steak dinner for my birthday and she chose the Capitol Grille. I was looking forward to it. TLDR: We were mostly disappointed. I liked that when we arrived our table was already decorated for the event and there was a card waiting from the management. Nice touch. The dining room was very noisy, making it difficult to hear the waiter. let alone our own conversation. For a cocktail, I ordered their Dirty Goose, described as Grey Goose Vodka, olive brine, hand-stuffed bleu cheese olives. Basically a martini with fancy olives. What I got was a glass full of mostly olive brine, with maybe a little vodka, and a couple of olives that had the texture (and flavorlessness) of plastic. For dinner I ordered the Dry Aged NY Strip* au Poivre with Courvoisier Cream. The meat was very tough and the ONLY thing I could taste was pepper. Frankly, I had a much better strip steak a few days before at a pub in Charles Town, WV where they were selling it by the ounce. Since it was my birthday, they gave me a complementary desert. Another nice touch. I think what we have is a once-great steak restaurant that has expanded to many locations and is perhaps focusing too much on the sizzle. read more

My wife really wanted to go here based on the great reviews. However, we did not have a pleasant experience. To start, there is no parking in front of the restaurant so you are forced to do valet which I am not a fan of. Our reservation was for 8pm but we were not seated until close to 8:30 so we weren't off to a great start. When we were finally seated, to my surprise the tables were very close to one another. The tables were so close that my wife and I felt like we were going to hit the tables beside us because we were that close to them. The restaurant was very loud and we were so close to the tables beside us that we felt like we were pretty much in their conversations. The service was great, our server was great and very attentive, and our food came out very fast. The food however severely lacked flavor. Anytime I go anywhere and there is a lobster bisque or a lobster mac and cheese on the menu I must order it. I have never had a lobster mac and cheese or lobster bisque that was not great until I came here. The lobster bisque did not have flavor and lacked seasoning. The lobster mac and cheese was supposed to be shareable but was pretty small and lacked a good amount of cheese. I also needed to put salt and pepper on the mac and cheese. I ordered the ribeye steak which was cooked very well, was tender, juicy, but lacked seasoning. I needed to put a good amount of salt on the steak. My wife had to do the same with her lamb chops. For as much money as we spent at this restaurant the food was very subpar. My friend and I came for the Generous Pour Wine Tasting event where we got to sample various wines for only $35. As someone who wasn't too familiar with wine, this was a unique introduction and a fun experience nonetheless! We started off with the Calamari - crispy, packed with lemon, and topped with a delicious variety of peppers. Great portion as well. It was delightful and started our meal off on a delicious note. From there, I got the Filet Mignon and I can honestly say this was one of the best steaks I've ever had! Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly medium rare! Capital Grille my first time around(September) on my birthday was pretty great; however, this past December the Friday before Christmas my Husband and I had a very uncomfortable experience. The place was packed don't get me wrong that is great for business, but service lacked because our waiter had multiple tables outside of ours to attend to making us have to wait for longer than our last time. I wish this restaurant had the audacity to let their customers know that Fridays are their busiest and it doesn't allow room for a much intimate experience which people like myself were going there to experience. Did I mention that they sat us right beside all others who were celebrating either a birthday or anniversary. We also all got the same complimentary dessert which didn't make us feel special at all. I feel like the choice of dessert if something is going to be free should be of the consumer and not the restaurant. However, that is my opinion. My ribeye was great. My husband's steak was poorly cooked. It was over charged and rather on the well done side instead of medium as requested. When we did want to send back the steak we were informed that changes or add one's to our evening dinner was to be done by our assigned waiter. Although, he was polite he was just super busy. We had our work offsite wrap up at TCG on a weeknight. Yes, you must order the steak here. That said, I've always been a fan of their Lobster/Crabcake as that was my standby lunch order with the French Onion soup. Sides - Brussel Sprouts, Creamed Corn, Au Gratin Potatoes And...yes...everything is spot on and delicious.
