I've been to The Captain's Boil many times but it was my first time at this location. The parking lot did get quite busy but there's lots of parking available. The food was just okay this time around. I found that mussels didn't come with as much sauce as they did at other locations. The fries and rice were good but we mainly came here for the boils. This offer let us choose from 5 flavours - Captain's boil (mix of all the flavours), garlic, lemon pepper, Cajun, and coconut curry, and 4 different spice levels - non spicy, mild, medium, and fire. Captain's boil is definitely an interesting eating experience. You get your food in a bag as the seafood is very saucy. You get plastic gloves and you eat the food with your hands. It can definitely get messy but I guess that's part of the captain's boil experience. All the sauces are packed with flavour and very well seasoned, but a bit too oily for my liking. I'm a huge fan of seafood, so I really could not go wrong with any of the options. I tried all the flavours and tried them at the mild and medium spice levels. It was empty when we walked in, maybe one table. The waitress just was not pleasant. Asked where the drink menu was and pointed to the napkin dispenser which indicated the captains platter. So when I asked what she was pointing at she then looked at me like I was dumb, then looked at the dispenser and realized. I could've done without the attitude. We ended up getting that platter as 1lbs of crawfish and the seafood fried rice. The crawfish came out first and to be completely honest they were small and tasted old. Then our boil came out, and there was more clam shells with no clams (yes I'm aware when they open sometimes they can fall out, but I'm telling you not the case ) and the snow crab leg were the tiniest. The seafood fried rice I couldn't even get a picture because it was so bland and boring. The shrimp also tasted old. I don't know how to describe it other than that. Came here with my friend and we ordered the the Matey's Feast. The portion was large and we personally liked the flavours. The one thing we were surprised about was how if you choose corn as one of your sides, it is half of 1 corn and if you order the boil egg, it is a single egg. Aside from this, the shrimp was flavourful and enjoyed it to the end, although the portion was so big we had to do takeout. In terms of the service it was just 1 staff working at the time, and she was attentive and very helpful when we were trying to decide. The interior is decorated well and the store was kept clean. If you're craving good seafood, I wouldn't recommend this place as tempting as it seems. It's SUPER salty, very oily, and overall, I felt horrible after the dinner. The corn you order literally comes as one single piece of corn. it's not even the whole corn. It's a corn chopped in half so really you're paying for half a corn. And it was super dry and starchy. The fried rice was so oily. It just tasted like it was doused in butter before hand. I think the only thing I liked were the mussels and a side of cajun fries. Service is not the best either. There was no hostess during the dinner time. I walked in and a server kept walking around me instead of greeting me. So I wasn't sure if you're suppose to just take your own seating. I stood there for almost 8 full minutes without a single staff saying anything, but they definitely all saw me and made eye contact. Two were just chatting at the bar. so I finally just asked out loud, quite loudly, if I am suppose to seat myself or should I wait for a hostess. Finally a girl came from the bar after finishing up her chat and said "hey sorry! Yeh I'll take you to a table". We visited Captain's Boil on a Saturday and decided not to take photos as the food wasn't worth documenting. We ordered 2 pounds of crab legs, fried shrimp, and fries. The crab legs were small and definitely not worth the $48 per pound. The fried shrimp were mushy, and the entire meal of tiny crab legs, soggy potatoes, and corn didn't justify the $140 price. The only highlight was the fresh fries. Although the server was friendly and the dining room was clean, the food quality has significantly declined while prices have increased. We used to enjoy Captain's Boil, but it's disappointing to see how far the quality has dropped. read more

My star is for the Cajun fries. Very crispy and delicious. But as a seafood restaurant, id give minus 5 stars. Ordered snow crab, clams and shrimp. None of the seafood were fresh. Snow crab, being $43/lb, was very fishy and stringy. Shrimp shells were stuck to the meat. I get that restaurants just reopened from covid restrictions. I used to love Captains Boil when I was living downtown and would often go to the DT location. One of my favourite thing to get beside the shrimp is clams. However after COVID their quality has decline drastically. I got a pound of clam from this location and the food was cold. However, that is not even the worse part. The worse part is the clams were NOT cooked. Either that or it has gone terribly bad as it tasted straight up taste like sand and sea water. This isn't the quality of how captains boil use to be for sure. So I am not sure what happened or they just don't care because it's covid. If you are going to serve your seafood at market price, at least make sure it is edible. I highly recommend Meet Boil and Bar in Scarborough for those who want a nice and fresh seafood because Captains Boil is no longer it. read more

But be aware you'll definitely need their complimentary plastic gloves and bib to keep your hands and shirt clean free. As a seafood lover I don't mind digging in with my hands. Ordered a combo platter which comes with Seafood Fried Rice, selection of mains (shrimp, clams, sausages), and sides (corn) all mixed with spicy and garlic sauce. Sauces were very tasty and seafood was good. They also have many choices including lobster crab, etc which are seasonal priced if you prefer those. Overall not a bad place to enjoy some seafood in a non-traditional way but personally enjoy eating seafood fresh from the ocean. On the plus side, the restaurant is clean, same goes to bathrooms, relaxed atmosphere (will come back to that), nice decor, menu is more New Orleans than NE. Once they take your order, food arrives in plastic bags (see photos), each item separately, limited menu, slow service, "no hand wipes" that's when you say Whaaaat? Love the food but find service to be lacking and not an environmentally conscious establishment. Food: 4* Mussels very plump and delish! But caution on that one broken shell getting into your bite. They were nice when we did flag them down but expected more service here. Not environmentally friendly! -1* Typical boil bar style is the fun of eating messy! But side orders of rice were served in disposable styrofoam cups with plastic spoons, water cups in disposable paper and plastic cups. Fried rice is served on a plate with reusable flat ware so it's a strange mix. And all seafood is served in a thick plastic bag even though it's not cooked in there. Was just here tonight Dec 27 around 7 pm with 3 other of my friends. While the food was some what decent compared to their other locations this place still fell short. We were promptly seated although they were quite busy. Our server did not come to our table until 15 minutes after we were seated and asked us if we had been here before, which we said no. He went through how to order in a rushed tone. We asked for water, and when he came back we were ready to order. We ordered 4 lbs of a variety of seafood, each lbs had its own add on (ex. Mussels and sausage, shrimp and corn etc), the rice and Cajun fries. When we got our food, one of the orders was wrong (gave us 2 lbs of clams when we just asked for one). They checked and confirmed our order was screwed up, but no apology. When our last order finally came (shrimp and corn), the entire bag had just ONE corn. I didn't know I was paying $1.25 for each small slice of corn.....either it was per piece or they just gave us one corn slice. Secondly, most of the clams we got were empty. The ones that were open had no meat, and there was a bunch not opened (likely dead). Our server never came to check on us, and we got water refills from other servers. Overall this experience errs on the dissatisfied and disappointed side, especially since this was not a cheap meal. If I ordered a plate of fried rice and got one shrimp in it, I would laugh and just eat it since its not expensive. Been here a few times and I am overall very happy with my experience here. It looks like they changed their menu when I went again to eat here yesterday. Prices have increased a bit and the seafood items are now market price instead of a fixed price like before. However, since yesterday was a Wednesday, they had 50%off a seafood item(not sure if it applies to all seafood items or specific items though) if you order a drink, which was a great deal! We ordered 1lb of shrimp and 1lb of mussels with two drinks so we could get the discount. Each seafood item comes with two sides (corn, potato, rice) bit you can pay an extra $4 to get other sides like okra or lotus root. We got the lotus root. We got everything with the mild captain's boil sauce and it was delicious! They gave a lot of lotus root. Seafood is more fresh here than at Good Catch. Service has always been great when I come here. Yesterday, the servers are very attentive and check up on us. I would recommend coming here. Seriously considering coming here every Wednesday for their Wednesday special. read more

I was SO disappointed with my experience at Captain's Boil. My friends used to really like this place and decided to take me for my first time to this location. At the start, we received a friendly greeting but once we were seated we only received two waters for four people and we had to ask for the waters three times from our server. The prices of the menu was quite high, we ordered shrimp and clams and calamari and the taste was not good. The seafood did not taste fresh, it was extremely oily and made us feel quite sick afterwards. As well, when we ordered the calamari they gave us a noticeably small amount compared to the amount my friend received from her last experience. She showed the photo of the calamari she had at the New Market location to our server and she had no idea what we were asking. The manager came later on and told us that the menu had changed and we were supposed to receive three different type of calamari but they ran out of one of the calamaris (?) and just left after that. We were just in shock because we weren't informed of anything and felt quite ripped off since the manager decided to not do anything as well especially since he saw our reaction. Overall, with the service we received and the poor quality of the food I really would not recommend this restaurant. Our group of five ordered clam combo, a side of fried calamari, and an additional pound of clams. We liked that the clam combo included cajun fries, crab legs, fried rice, and pop. It was a pretty good deal, and enough for 4 people. We added the calamari and extra lb of clams as there were five of us. The Captain's Boil sauce went really well with the clams, and we even mixed some of it into the fried rice, which made it even tastier. Over all a decently priced seafood restaurant. They also provide gloves and plastic covers that you can tie around your neck to protect the front of your shirt from being splattered while you eat. Back for a second time! The dish that stands out the most is the mussels. My recommendation is to try the 'Garlic' flavour with medium spice. As an added bonus, you can have certain side dishes mixed in with the mussels. We had Okra and Lotus root which absorbed the flavor perfectly. The service was friendly but it was extremely difficult to get a staff member to come by the table. Sadly, It wasn't very busy so it shouldn't have been so difficult. They offer a few kid alternative items which is great because not everyone enjoys seafood. Food is good and service is super fast! I'm not a fan of their Cajun sauce, I actually find it too oily and not too much other flavor. The captains boil sauce is good though! One star less because I found the price a bit too high. 1 corn add on is 1.25 and its only 1/3 of a corn. I kicked myself for getting it considering I found corn for 15 cents each over the weekend.... :(. I think potato is worth the add on since it's filling and they give you a full potato lol. We got shrimp and claims with those add ons and had calamari and Cajun fries on the side. A bit too much for 2 people, could've skipped the fries. Came to 60$. This is best captian boil. I have been to the Yonge and Sheppard location before. That's where I fall in love with their seafood. But last few time I visited there the food wasn't up to the standard anymore. Most of the time the sauce was way too oil. But this captain boil actually taste exactly the same as the captain boil I fell in love with. I am so happy I found this by accident. We were actually there to eat at the Spanish tapas place in the plaza but was disappointed by their customer service level and just came into this captain boil because it close the kitchen way later. When we walked into this captain boil the sever, Augus, greeted us and place us in a booth. We ordered our food and the food comes so quick. I've seen so many pictures on social media of the delicious seafood offerings and unfortunately missed the Yelp Elite event at Captain's Boil earlier this year. I felt the time was long overdue to check out Captain's Boil, and none better than at this newest location which recently opened up in Richmond Hill. I called to make a reservation for our party of 11 earlier in the day and was initially told that they would not be able to accommodate us at a single table/area but rather would need to divide our group. However they were thankfully able to seat us together in the end. The decor is clean and contemporary with lots of wood details including two large woodworked murals on opposite sides of the space. The light fixtures are interesting with some nods to nautical themes. We ordered shrimp, mussels, clams, corn, lotus root, and sausages in several of the sauces, which includes lemon pepper, garlic, and Captain's Boil signature sauce which combines the former two flavours with Cajun seasoning. We also ordered steamed rice, sweet potato fries, and the Cajun seafood fried rice. Having tasted the shrimp, mussels, and sausage, I can vouch that these were flavourful and not at all overcooked. In my opinion, your best bang for your buck is with the shrimp as all seafood is priced per pound (shells on). The Cajun seafood fried rice packed lots of flavour. If you're spice intolerant, be sure to specify mild or no spice, and you may be better off sticking to garlic seasoning. One of the things that kind of bothers me about this place is that everything is served in either styrofoam bowls or plastic bags with plastic cutlery. They also give you plastic gloves to 'cleanly' eat your seafood with. I realize that this makes it easier for the restaurant to dispose of everything at the end of each meal, but it does carry significant environmental impact. From opening to 4pm, they have a special of either fish or chicken teriyaki with rice (udon for extra charge) for $10.99, which also comes with two pieces each of crayfish, shrimp, mussels, and clams. This is a great value considering that a pound of shrimp will cost you $12.95 per lb and it doesn't come with any sides. Captain's boil is one of my favorite restaurants. I was so excited about the recent AYCE shrimps promotion. I went to this location and I was highly disappointed. This location lack a lot in customer service. A was so frustrated by the service that I lost my appetite and couldn't wait to leave. The waitress ruined my dining experience with my colleagues. We had to wait 15-20 minutes for each serving, for extra gloves, for water, etc...To had to my frustration, we had to pay 18% service fees for AYCE. We were not notified at all. I don't mind paying for service fees if I'm with a group but we were only 3 people. The bill was incorrect and the waitress had to do it again. The second bill was incorrect again but I just paid and left. I do not recommend this location at all. read more
