The Celery -- Portland, OR Walked in and immediately felt like I should own a fixed-gear bike. Industrial. Clean lines. Slightly edgy. The kind of place where you expect someone to be editing a documentary on a laptop made of recycled aluminum. Late afternoon visit, so the hipster crowd had clearly skateboarded back to their respective creative labs. I had the place to myself. Prime auditing conditions. First impression? This place is built for volume. You can tell. Efficient layout. Assembly-line potential. If bowls were a factory sport, this would be a playoff team. Ordered the Home Grown. Took a quick bathroom break. Came back and -- boom -- bowl was already on the counter. FAST. And it looked elite. Then I saw it. A generous dollop of peanut butter at the top, sprinkled with hemp seeds. I almost got emotional. It felt like flying over your hometown after months away. Familiar. Safe. Right. First bite? Delicious. Smooth. Creamy. Almost like frozen yogurt or soft serve. Easy eating. Crowd-pleasing texture. And then... I looked up. Another bowl was being made. The açaí base was coming out of a soft-serve machine. As a purist, this one hurt. I want hand-scooped. Blender-blade symphony. Crafted, not dispensed. I had a small internal crisis. But here's the problem: I really enjoyed it. So now I'm torn between my values and my taste buds. Would I go back? Yes. Would I wrestle internally again? Also yes. Rating 3.8 / 5 Açaí Berries Breakdown * Taste: 4.3/5 * Ingredients: 4/5 * Consistency: 4.5/5 * Purist Pain Factor: High * Speed: 5/5 Current Status: Machine-Made But Memorable Lesson Learned: Sometimes the machine wins. Spiritual Conflict Level: Ongoing. -- The Açaí Guy

Blue Tide and Tree Run Grain Bowl

Decent menu and average prices but I wasn't impressed with my smoothie or grain bowl. I ordered the Blue Tide ($8.50) and the Tree Run ($16). The blue tide smoothie wasn't very flavorful, which was super disappointing. The bowl was absolutely smothered in roasted red pepper sauce, which really should come on the side since it's such a large portion of sauce. Otherwise, the chicken was juicy and the bowl was fine but I couldn't escape the sauce. Not very remarkable which is so sad given all the awesome reviews!

I was searching for a healthy to-go option during a work trip and stumbled on Celery. This spot did not disappoint with healthy, good-tasting options. I would absolutely order here again!

Amazing place! Super cute with tons of windows for the natural lighting. We stopped here to do some work. Good news is they're also dog-friendly too! I got an acai bowl and my wife got a salad. The acai bowl was okay, I wish the base wasn't as watery and had some more flavors to it. The toppings and fruits were pretty fresh, so it made up for it. The salad on the other hand was really good! Would lean towards that if you're looking to get some food. Got a juice as well and felt super healthy afterwards. Good little spot, would come back.

I was really drawn to this space because of the artwork they have on the windows. The juice did not disappoint. The combination of different spices and veggies will really make your taste buds explode. It was the best pick-me-up to start my day.

I'm obsessed! The blue tide smoothie is SOOO GOOD! I have been here multiple times and always have great service and a wonderful experience! It's very large inside and clean! There is inside and outside seating available as well!

The Celery is so freaking good. Tasty fresh food that doesn't make you feel terrible after eating it. This is my favorite smoothie spot. The people are nice and always working hard. Seems like there must be a neverending amount of stuff to do there because it looks nonstop for them. Inside is fine, they always have the door open on nice days and I like that. I've only ever had smoothies here (I've tried all of them and they are all great). I have no doubt their other food is good too it's just never what I'm there for.

The best healthy food in town, and it's not even close. Obsessed with the Keep It Green juice, and the Rain Shadow Grain Bowl. They use only clean organic ingredients, unlike other juice bars that are "organic when possible" aka never. Bright and spacious indoors, and they use plant-based ecofriendly packaging for to-go orders. Thank you the Celery for existing!!!

I was so happy to find this restaurant while I was staying at the hotel without a kitchen for a week. I always choose organic ingredients when cooking at home and it was such a pleasant surprise to find The Celery as it offers organic ingredients including the chicken, veggies, grains, etc. I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant that uses exclusively organic ingredients and I've been to lots of places especially in Portland. Everyone was nice to me and friendly. Highly recommend for a healthy meal.

Thank you Brittany for all the wonderful energy and great service. We weren't expecting such great service. It made our day after such a long day. You represent this company very well and should be given a raise. Thank you for your kindness and your good heart.

I really wanted to love this spot and, based off the reviews, I may have just ordered wrong. The base of my açaí bowl was icy and kind of bland. I did enjoy the fresh fruit and peanut butter on top, but it was disappointing overall. I also ordered the up river grain bowl with salmon. The salmon was a very generous portion but it was overcooked with lots of albumin seeping out. I loved the basil herb sauce and the perfectly cooked farro with the roasted vegetables, so I would consider ordering it again without the salmon.

Entering the shop, you will be greeted by loud music. Be ready for that. You will have the option to dine outside, if the weather provides it and the seats are empty. The hosts are wonderful and very accepting with a positive attitude. Smiles and all. I ordered the Jim because it was the only sandwich I could eat. The majority of the sandwiches contain meat, so I would not recommend this for vegans or pescatarians. Jim was delicious and I consumed both halves of Jim flawlessly. Either hunger overruled me, or the sandwich was that satisfying. I do recommend the shop, but with limited options for non-meat eaters, I truthfully would rate Lottie and Zulas, 4.5. Yet, I don't believe the spot was "good."

We also had the Vinny which was fine, a bit spicier than I thought it would be, but I'm a wimp. The service was fine, not overly friendly but adequate. The food is 4 stars, the service 3 starts, but the real bummer was all the plastic. Plastic container, plastic cups and we were eating in. They asked if it was to go and we said no, but everything came in plastic anyway. The ambiance is quintessential Portland, right up until they bring all your food in plastic with plastic silverware to boot.
