We went on a weekday around 3:30 and didn't need a reservation. We had the crab cakes for an appetizer and they were amazing although quite small. My wife ordered lobster newburg which she didn't think was very good. I ordered the filet mignon and it was disappointing because rather than one nice thick piece of meat it was two half inch thick pieces and rather than medium rare it was definitely medium. Came to the Chart Room for lunch. They have a really nice patio in the back by the water, but the tables can't accommodate more than four so if you have a larger party you are SOL. The lunch salads topped with various seafood were nice (I had the seared scallops) but not much of a stretch. My husband ordered tuna rare and it came out ;cooked through (totally med or well in our opinion), they happily re-fired the dish which was nice. I overheard our hotel desk staff recommend the Chart Room to guest on two occasions. I'm sure if I asked for a recommendation I would have received the same answer. So I decided to go, without making a reservation. The restaurant is right on the water and there is a small beach adjacent to the entrance and a pier extending from the back deck area. It was raining this evening so the outdoor deck area was closed for dining. Because of this, there was a wait for a table of about 20 minutes. However we were seated faster than that. Big picture window give a great view of the harbor. Too bad it was overcast and raining. I imagine this would be a great place for dinner at sunset. Chart Room is known for their seafood, as most places in Bar Harbor are also known for seafood. I wanted to mix it up a bit and they had a special, two pounds of Steamers, which is not usually on the menu. I ordered this to start and the Filet Mignon for the main course. The Steamers brought back fond memories of my childhood, when my family would vacation in Montauk, Long Island. Cooking Steamers and dipping in melted butter was a daily ritual. The Filet Mignon was perfectly cooked and seasoned appropriately. I couldn't ask for a better meal. I would return again when the sky is clear and time it for sunset. Wow I've eaten here for years and have not left a review?! First as a retired teacher, everyone wants an A and I give very few. Can I give 4 and 1/2 stars? The fact that I eat here at least once a month tells you something. Everything I have tried is great. The baked stuffed haddock is my go to dish. I have never tried the steaks. Hey! You are 50 feet from an ocean, not a pasture. The service is great. The owner is a nice guy and stands behind the bar. The clientele is a little high-brow--who cares? I get great service in shorts and a tshirt. You must go here at least once when you visit the park. BTW I had a family reunion and brought 38 people here (with a prior arrangement). Good dining experience, I know the wait to sit outside on the deck is a tad bit long but it is worth it, if you have the time ask to sit outside ( weather permitting ofcourse). Friendly and accommodating staff, moved us to a better seat with a better view when asked (without any fuss) Food was obviously very good too- I had the Lazy Man's lobster which came with garlic butter and it was great and my husband had boiled lobster which was great too. So happy I checked the reviews first on this, saw a recent review saying they'd been twice in two days. Was so worth it! Didn't think much of the place when driving past to go up to the park but on the way down decided why not. Service was awesome, thanks Julia! Split the special of the day and a caesar salad which the house made dressing was perfect! You CAN NOT skip in the blueberry pie either! Yum, so rich and warm not too much crust, perfect. We sat on the back deck to enjoy the view and listen to the water what a great place right off the main strip there. Blast from the past... 90's style. Small portions and a bit pricey. According to our server not all of the seafood is local or fresh caught, some is frozen and shipped in. We did the seafood platter, grilled chicken Caesar, and a lobster roll and clam chowder. The good: maybe the best clam chowder we've had in Bar Harbor. Also, the scallops in the seafood platter were juicy and fresh. The view was really good as well as the service. The bad: the salad with grilled chicken was a side salad portion size and had burnt charred pieces that overpowered the salad and was $16. The seafood platter had a small piece of rubbery fish, very small frozen shrimp, and the clams were either over battered or mixed in with a bunch of batter and there just weren't many clams. The lobster and soup were really small in portion, perhaps more of a kids meal size as my son ordered and ate it. I normally do not like fried seafood so it would be good if they added a broiled or grilled seafood option rather than fried. read more

We love this spot, and it's just up the road from the Bar Harbor Campground, where we stay. It's got a fancier feel than most of the other restaurants in the area, and you can sit inside or on the back patio that's right on the ocean. The complimentary rolls are divine, and the lobster is delicious (they often have "early bird" specials on the lobster). The other sides are great too (coleslaw, potato wedges). Delicious lobster rolls and perfect fries on first visit followed by amazing "special" - macadamia-crusted halibut and baked potatoes on the second visit. Their clam chowder was full of clams and well balanced (with butter/cream)---the best I sampled in two weeks along the mid coast. Wait staff was extremely attentive and friendly and everyone worked well together like a family! They didn't miss a thing. Great views and comfortable covid-minded spacing between tables that felt natural (not sterile) and safe. If we'd stayed longer we would have come a third time! Appetizers were timely and fresh, ribeye and filet mignon were small but the menu told you how many ounces they were. Filets were two 8oz and ribeye was 12oz apprx 1/2"-3/4" thick, very tasty! I made a mistake when I ordered the fried seafood platter. Nothing on the plate tasted FRESH! The reason for that; because it wasn't. At $34.95, this New Englander expected sweet clams and scallops. The clams were rather tasteless and the scallops were mushy soft. The haddock was dry as the Mojave and as scrumptious as an old sock. The shrimp looked like golden grubs I've seen when I turn over soil in my vegetable garden. Word to the wise, if an entree is not listed on the menu as fresh, it won't be. Found this place on Yelp and I am so glad I did. We came to Maine for delicious seafood and we truly weren't disappointed by this place! The service was great and the food was exceptional. The fact that they served ice cold water is something to be mentioned because it was a hot day out and greatly appreciated. The server even left out a whole bottle of it for us in case we needed refills. Next, I've tried the lobster roll and fish and chips. I honestly thought I'd had the best lobster roll from Maine before..but this tops it. It had a decent amount of lobster meat in the roll, the roll was toasted to perfection, and there was just the right amount of mayonnaise in it. I absolutely loved how they provided a lemon and my favorite pickle with it. The haddock in the fish and chips wasn't overly breaded and the fish was still juicy and tender.The fries that came with both were crispy and potatoe-y. . Stopped by this restaurant located by the water for a quick lunch. It was by far the least expensive establishment that we ate at while visiting Bar Harbor last week. Don't let that fool you because it served the most delicious food as well. The prices were excellent.The servers were attentive and very professional, friendly and accommodating. We chose to each have the Haddock special. We found it to be fresh as fresh can be. It was very lightly coated in a batter that was perfect and not overly done. My only regret is that we did not get a second opportunity to try other selections on the menu, but will do if we are in the area again. Wasn't sure how good the food would be since their place averaged a 3.5 star rating. However we were very pleasantly surprised at how delicious our food was. We ordered 2 of the chefs specials. Haddock encrusted with macadamia and seared tuna. Both dishes were excellent. Our server was very sweet and attentive enough. Specialty cocktails were great and the view was incredible overlooking the bay. In truth it was a four star experience but wanted to help boost the restaurants rating. Hope this helps. A wonderful little place and always busy when we drive by. We saw the sigh for their $19.95 lobster special and had to stop in for dinner. We came early so there were still plenty of seats and got one on the patio outside overlooking the beach (so beautiful). Unfortunately, it was super windy that day and things started flying. My dad and I both got the lobster special and it was great. Lobster was fresh and came with butter, 3 huge potato wedges and cole slaw.
