I love The Chateau but have noticed over the past few years they have gone downhill in their services. I used to order Manicotti. After years, they removed it from their menu. Stuffed shells were the next best thing. These have now been removed from their menu! Arent these Italian dishes?? The next choice was raviolis which were a little overdone in my last visit. In addition, the waitress forgot about our dinner so it was not hot. Then they were opening another section of the restaurant which was not kept heated as they were setting up with their coats on. This place was okay. I think the interior looked elegant with a dark wood/low light look, but then they had TVs in the booths but there were a lot of blank channels so it took a long time to scroll through to even find one with any reception. Cute idea I guess but didn't really work out. Also there was a sporting event going on in the bar area which was fine but then they switched from kind of loud music to kind of loud sports, so the booth TV was being drowned out on the 2 channels it did have. So the atmosphere didn't end up being that great. I got a seafood pasta which was mostly just shrimp and noodles and a tiny bit of Parmesan. My boyfriend had a bland steak that came with a tomato on a bed of lettuce for some reason but the broccoli was good. The prices overall weren't too bad but the food wasn't that impressive. My buddy put it perfectly, this place is fast food Italian. This isn't a knock on them, it's consistently good. I had one of the trio dinners and it's as good as it was last year's visit. It's not cheap but where can you get a decent fast Italian meal for $25? And they give you bread before the meal. Came here for the first time, on a weekday, for a work function. We had a party of six. For drinks, we ordered a bottle of wine and a couple cocktails. The wine came to our table. Although it wasn't a cork bottle, it was left at our table unopened and we poured it ourselves. Our table ordered Chateau's famous fried ravioli, the entree portion, to share as an appetizer. It's a ravioli with bread crumbs that is deep fried. Two sauces accompany the dish; a vodka sauce and a red meat sauce. The quality of it was equivalent to bar food standards. I ordered the seafood platter. It's a bit of everything; scallops, shrimps, and fish. The plate is broiled and It was sitting in a pool of butter, I felt like I was having butter with a side of seafood. The seafood, was fresh, and, not overtly overcooked. No flavor. I tried my friend's gnocchi and the gnocchi themselves were severely under cooked. I felt that if the gnocchi's usually take 10 minutes to boil to perfection, then Chateau cooked them for 3 minutes. The decor and atmosphere was decent. Everything was well kept and nothing was unkempt. Nothing felt "run down". I feel like this place needs Gordon Ramsay. Main dining room was closed so we were directed to the bar area. Asked for a booth and we were told they only had small ones available. Microscopic more like it. Yet, going to our booth we past 3 larger booths that were completely empty. Being this is the bar section the music is very loud and a Keno screen is right in your face; especially at these size booths. Not the dining experience I expected. Pepsi was ordered by both of us yet one was NOT Pepsi so that needed to be fixed. Blame was placed on someone else by the server. Both of us got silverware yet mine had the food on it from the previous person to use it. That needed to be fixed. Server blamed this on someone else as well. Ordered fried zucchini and they have to charge that at the appetizer combo price of $12.95 but seems silly since I would say it is more like an order of fried mozzarella. Not a huge deal but still just pointing out the facets of the experience that make me scratch my head. Entrees were the straw that broke the camels back on this evening: My daughter ordered her REGULAR of spaghetti with two MEATBALLS. The dish was more like a bowl of sauce with a little bit of spaghetti tossed in it and two very strange "meatballs." She asked for more bread and had a pile of bread with the soaked up sauce. The server asked about the bread and when we told her she once again blamed someone else for this. The one and only legit blame to be passed onto someone else but yet nothing was done by her. She didn't really seem to care. I ordered the trio #6 which consisted of chicken parm, one "meatball" and 3 stuffed shells. I was told it CAME WITH either a salad or a cup of soup. The list was read off to me by our server of 18 years here. When the bill came I was charged $4.95 for the Cesar salad. WHAT?!?! Both my daughter and I thought the meatballs smelled very odd on this night. I tried them and something was just not right. We both said they smelled like dog food. Not sure what the issue was. But I promise you, there was an issue. Spoke to the manager on the phone and he will put a credit in the book but not for the whole check. We got what appears as fried chicken and was flavorless. Definitely needs to change that description because we would not have ordered friend chicken if we knew that was the case. I love the Chateau. My wife and I always sit at the bar. The martinis are great and so is the food. I like the turkey bourbon tips and the salads for my entrees. The service is always great. This place is OK in a push. It offers regular Italian chain, restaurant, style fair, nothing out of the ordinary, but it's consistent. Can often be loud during busy times and attracts a large local community that are obviously regulars as they like their spot in the bar. Food selection is pretty average for this type of restaurant and an array of different pastas, proteins, Offord in varying different styles, and you can choose the preparation and sauce. My wife and got there she is in a walker. The staff was very helpful. I thank them for their help. The waitress was awesome as well as the expirence. My complaint is the food. We each got a trio. She had the ravioli version. I got the lasagna version. The chicken parm was about 3 paper plates thick. Cube stake is thicker. I figured for $16 I was getting a thick piece of haddock at least 6 oz (most good fish restaurants you'll get 8 ounces for that price. Check out Charlie's in Lynn.) won't go back. I got the chicken and egg plant Parmesan with a side salad and a glass of chianti wine. It also came with white bread with sesame seeds on top of bread and butter. The side salad was mostly iceberg lettuce and a cherry tomato plus two olives, two cucumber slices and onion shavings. The house dressing was okay. The chicken and egg plant Parmesan with spaghetti was good and i like lots of red sauce! They forgot my wine and by the time she came back to table I was almost done. Overall a good experience but not spectacular. Slow service by my standards as I was dining by self and so lots of down times. What a great place! Lovely ambiance. EXCELLENT waitstaff. Quick and courteous service. The only thing that made us uncomfortable was a patron who started screaming and yelling because he claimed to be waiting 45 minutes. When the manager tried to calm him down and offered ways to make it better, he got even louder. He then threatened to leave a bad YELP review. We were from out of town and decided on the Chateau in Andover due to recommendations and celebrate a graduation dinner there on 4/30. We were a group of about 15. I was going to order the Stuffed Shells but the waitress was honest so I decided to order the Baked Stuffed Shrimp with crab meat and scallops. The meal was not too bad but then I started to feel nauseous. I went to the bathroom and became violently ill. The last thing I remember was coming back to the table and stating that I needed to go lay down. I woke up in my hotel room about 45 minutes later. In the meantime, my girlfriend and her son had called the restaurant and found out there were mushrooms in the dish, which I am allergic too. The fortunate thing is that I did not have to go the hospital. I guess the mushroom presence was not that great. The menu made no mention of mushrooms which is a very common allergy and should be disclosed on the menu (I know it is in my state and others). I probably could have asked as well but it did not come to mind because I was ordering a seafood dish. While the food was okay, I spent on my meal only to have it flushed down the toilet. We'll see what my lawyer says as I have documentation and the recording of the phone call to management of the restaurant the same night of the incident. On the other side, the food that others in the group had was bland, the lasagna was dry with very little sauce (frozen) and resembled a mac and cheese dish, the chicken parm was not tender at all. My favorite dish was this shrimp dish with veggies in a light sauce. I believe it was the PASTA GIARDINARA with Seasonal Vegetables Sauteed with San Marzano Tomatoes in a light garlic wine sauce, Tossed with Asiago & Romano Cheeses, Mezza Rigatoni & Fresh Basil with Shrimp, but sand the tomatoes. No reservations but they accommodated us and another large party in a semi private room behind the bar. 6 liked their meals, I didn't like the eggplant parm sandwich at all. It came out cold/cheese not melted, served on the same very soft white bread they serve at the table. I sent it back to be heated, the waitress didn't stick around long enough after her eye roll to hear me ask for different bread, so it came back the same, but hotter. I picked out the two slices of eggplant and that was that. I've only been here once before, a few years ago, and don't recall anything special so I won't be back. read more

Strange attempt at Italian cuisine. The locals told me before I went 'it used to be better' but I doubt that. The tomato sauce tastes like the 'tin can' cloying metal burn of an old Hunts stash of canned tomatoes in someone's garage. If they cared, San Marzano's would brighten up any poorly executed dish and they have many. I ordered a personal pizza as a test, with fried eggplant and Italian sausage. I can't be certain when the eggplant was fried, if ever, but it tasted like it was fried/frozen/nuked to order and void of salt. Mushy and nasty, especially combined with those metallic cheap tomatoes. Meh to the ninth degree. My observation is this restaurant is a good choice for drinking and watching sports. They make great martinis and mixed drinks though the draft beer selection is limited to the likes of bud lt, coors lt, Sam Adams, etc...so don't expect any craft beers. They also played a nice selection of classic rock and R&B. Our bartender was attentive & pleasant. Finally, the food is average.....been there several times before & always the same. It was very crowded on a rainy Tuesday, but we were immediately seated comfortably in the lounge section. Our server, Fran, was top-notch! We noticed that the Tuesday special was $5 burgers, so it made our choice very simple. We each added cheese for an add'l charge of $1. The burgers came on a fresh roll with lettuce, tomato, onion & a side pickle spear. You get to choose onion rings, fries or Cole Slaw-we had the onion rings & slaw-both very good. The burgers were cooked perfectly, medium rare as we had requested. Our meals were very good and we had a very non-rushed lunch date. The rest rooms are immaculate. I went here for a birthday celebration for a family member. I wanted to like this place, but it just wasn't good. The restaurant feels very dated, which is a shame because there's so much space and potential. The low lighting feels more dreary than elegant. Service was very slow. To be fair I was there with a party of 7 and it was pretty busy for a Sunday afternoon, but I didn't expect to be there for about 90 minutes. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and toasted ravioli, which was advertised as two "house specialties". I didn't particularly enjoy either. The food was lukewarm, but I didn't feel like sending it back and staying at the restaurant even longer. The sauce on the chicken and ravioli was flavorless, like they just poured a can of tomato sauce all over the food. The toasted ravioli wasn't really even toasted - it was more soggy because of all the tomato sauce. I didn't finish the chicken parm because I just didn't like it. I was surprised and disappointed an Italian restaurant did chicken parm so poorly. The dish was $18-19 which I wouldn't have minded as much if the quality was there. But I could have had a cheaper and more satisfying meal at Olive Garden. Two stars because it wasn't as bad as some of the one star reviews here. This is a great Italian restaurant that I've driven past a dozen times over the past several years while in the area on business. They have an exceptional Caesar Salad that included the anchovies that were cold and fresh. The salad itself was well-blended with the greens and the dressing; a compliment to that attention to detail makes a great salad. The chicken parmigiana was really prepared nicely. The cheesy richness, tomato sauce and meat ravioli with meat sauce made a great combination. Coupled with a couple of ice cold Yeungling beers from a properly maintained cooler and iced glasses added to the details that do many miss yet are common sense to success. While staying at a local hotel, we asked around and we're told that the Chateau was the place to go. Very disappointed. First, I asked for a lemon twist in my drink but the obviously overworked waitress brought the drink with a lime piece of rind. My wife had the eggplant parm, which was covered in pasta and sauce, but there wasn't much parm ... and even less eggplant. We're used to thin slices of breaded eggplant piled relatively high, with tons of cheese on it. The Chateau should really be embarrassed to call this "eggplant parm." My meal of stuffed haddock was edible and enjoyable. The vegetables with it were fine. For a restaurant as big as Chateau, it appeared to us to be a factory, pushing people through the meals. What I can't believe is how a place that does the business the Chateau does can't put out some warm home cooked bread ... maybe with a little oil. The bread was cold and run of the mill. Bad start. The staff were fine, if maybe a little brusque. But, they were working on a busy holiday weekend evening, so I give them some leeway. Bottom liner, we're not coming back. read more

About two weeks ago we had a really bad experience with the restaurant (AKA) The Chateau in Andover. We decided to take my oldest son out to eat for his birthday weekend dinner altogether we had a party of ten. When we arrived to the restaurant there were no tables ready so we had a wait time of 45 minutes to 1 hour. We decided to wait for a table when finally it was our turn to be seated so we all sit down and the person just leaves the room without saying anything to us. Basically we just sat there no acknowledgement at all, we were there waiting some more no bread basket was offered not even water. At that point about 20 more minutes go by still no sign of anyone waiting on us. My oldest daughter decides to go find someone to attend us and when she did the waitress was being so rude and racist, she didn't even introduce herself or said how were we doing we received no proper introduction, as she is taking our drink orders when another waitress comes in the room and tells her she needs to serve a table so our waitress says to us I have to go and serve a table and just leaves. I have never felt humiliated in that restaurant as I felt that day. So we all just got up and left. No one asked why we were leaving or that they will attend us shortly. The treated us like if we didn't belong there. They treated us unfairly, unprofessional and were really racist and rude. Unless you are white I don't recommend anyone going there if you are of color. I was so mad and my entire family including the kids were pissed off. If you want to be treated like a piece of shit go there. The highlight of my night was walking to the restaurant next door which was chili's I highly recommend you going there to eat instead the staff was welcoming and the environment was cozy and the food was awesome. Don't ever allow anyone to treat you the way the employees that work for the chateau did trust me don't go there. The only regret we have was not sending the staff out loud to hell and embarrassing them the way they embarrassed us. Glad Our money was well spent at a neighboring restaurant. Nice, casual and good food. I've gone to The Chateau several times now during my travels to the Andover area. The food has been good each time I've gone, they have very affordable daily specials and the bread they bring to the table is excellent. I've had pasta, pizza, calamari(New England style), veal and chicken. All have been good. What brings it down to a three for me is simply because it's good, not great. I'm never disappointed going there but I also don't leave with that "wow, that was great feeling" like I have occasionally in other places. If your looking for decent food and a casual environment, the Chateau is perfect. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Dante, our waiter, was extremely unprofessional. The rest of the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice, but Dante ruined it for us.
