I got the peach martini, it came steaming(?) or fogging(?) from dry ice, lol. Pretty cute! We ordered the sweet potato app to start! Sweet potato tater tots?! Why doesn't everyone do that? And it came with this maple bacon dipping sauce, OMG yum! Tater tots were so good we all ordered more with our sandwiches instead of fries.. Lol. We all ordered sandwiches. I got the Greek chicken sandwich in the pita. Pretty tasty! Lots of feta!! Mmm! Our waitress seemed nice.. I feel we didn't see her much. I come to Myrtle Beach every year and have tried to place twice. Doesn't even 1 star. Servers act like they hate you from the start, everything is sticky and gross, the food is average. The owner (or somebody) is commenting on every other review about how they can improve and sorry this and that, but it's clear that he doesn't actually take it to heart to change. read more

Was very excited to try this restaurant based on the reviews here. The experience started out great with the unique atmosphere and drinks, but ended there. In fact, one member of the party didn't even receive their drink until halfway into their main course. Two of the three appetizers were soggy and bland, the shrimp appetizer however was very good. The special of the evening was a Sirloin and Risotto. One of the Sirloin had an incredibly foul flavor and sent back. The steak was taken away to be replaced for a different plate, leaving the risotto on the table. The waitress comes back minutes later and takes the Risotto away while we were eating it with no explanation, Awkward! The replacement meal was said to be out "any minute" only to arrive 20+ later after everyone had been finished. The replacement meal was also not comped... Was a disappointing ending to our vacation to say the least. read more

Really enjoyed the vibe at The Chemist. Cool space (both in decor and temperature...a necessity in MB in August). Staff was just awesome...really nice and down to earth. Food and drink for our group was almost all a hit: -Apps we had scallops and buck rabbit bread. Scallops were fresh and tasty...not everyone in our group loved the bread but I think it was more of a preference thing. -Tried several cocktails...all delicious. Special shoutout to the martini on dry ice. That'll make your Instagram friends jealous. -Entrees were almost all hits. LOVED the char-siu. Shrimp scampi was the only so-so dish...pretty bland considering there are plenty of local places to get tasty and fresh shrimp. All in all we wouldn't hesitate to go back. I stopped in for dinner as part of a group since it was one of many restaurants along the boardwalk. The restaurant seemed understaffed with only 1 person working both the bar and the tables. After ordering, the fastest dish to come out took 15+ minutes, while the last took more than 20. The staff was fairly considerate but neglected basics such as knives, napkins, and normal plates. The food was definitely good (I ordered the scallops) but across all the dishes ordered in the group, the common factor was high price and small portion size. TL;DR: While it's an interesting and quirky dining location with decent food, the price, quantity, and part of the service guarantee that I wouldn't come back again for normal dining. read more

Definitely a classy little gastropub in Myrtle! It almost seems as though it belongs in Charleston or Colimbia. The drinks and food are both amazing!! Our group had the spring rolls, German pretzel sticks, sheperds pie, lamb chops and bang bang shrimp. Each item was delicious and had a different take on items that you've tried elsewhere (i.e. Bang bang shrimp is also sold at Bonefish Grill but the bang bang at The Chemist is tempura fried, so you get a light crispy taste). On our first visit to Myrtle Beach we were very eager to try out this place, as we prefer a higher quality of dining than the hundreds of standard family/tourist-friendly burger and fried seafood spots. We also love a great, creative craft cocktail! In short, the food, vibe, decor and service were excellent, but the cocktails -- which The Chemist obviously prides and promotes itself on -- were not all that great. We choose to share three starters: Sweet Potato Tots (great flavor and texture, tasty sauce); Diver Scallops (ditto); and Buck Rabbit (Excellent! Amazing cheese sauce). We also shared a bowl of the Tomato Bisque (perfectly creamy and dreamy) and the very tasty Dark Chocolate Truffles for dessert. Along with the excellent flavors, everything was very well presented. As for the cocktails, we each tried three different options from their long list of craft specials. Usually that would make my wife a bit wobbly, but she hardly felt a thing afterwards. So that's an obvious problem. They all tasted just fine, but did not live up to their hype. Probably better than most found along the strand, but we may be a bit spoiled hailing from Sacramento and the Bay Area where bartenders are receiving national attention for their amazing craft cocktails. The Chemist's drinks would be merely average back home. Other than that, we highly recommend this great little restaurant. read more

Stopped in for a cocktail on a casual Saturday night bar hop; fell in love after the first drink. Some drinks are served in beakers and flasks.. but my martini was served over smoking dry ice. After enjoying the unique atmosphere and good tunes, Phil - the bartender - turned us onto his menu for the following morning: jalapeño and bacon-infused bloody marys with brunch. Needless to say, we stopped in and loved it. Drinks were great, food was tasty, and the staff are lovely. The food is good and creative, but after leaving the second time I'm remembering how we left feeling a bit ripped off. Maybe not so much with the food, but they're pretty un-generous with the alcohol considering they're charging big city prices for it. You leave feeling like you didn't just eat a "x" priced meal. If they gave another couple ounces in the 10oz beer or another ounce of vodka in the mixed drinks you might feel the price was fair enough, but not as is. Quirky little place with good food. Had a neat atmosphere with relics from your high school chemistry class here and there to include breakers, the periodic table on the floor and element tables. Sadly, for a science nerd, that's where it ended with the exception of the lemon foam on the shrimp scampi. As an "incognito nerd" I was hoping for a bit more bubble, brew, and "magic". That all being said, the food was very good. We started with the sweet potato tots, loved those. Entrees were, shrimp scampi, salmon and bok choy, tomato bisque and grilled cheese, and lamb ribs with artichoke risotto. The only plate with food left was the lamb, but only because it was a great portion, the ribs weren't gamey at all and were very tender. All the other plates were cleared. They had craft cocktails which were tasty. They were not heavy handed on the liquor, but the flavor was good. I would go again and try some different appetizers and plates. A nice menu. read more

It's the sexiest, funkiest, most intelligent way to serve food and drinks! My husband and I went there on a whim thinking, "Oh this looks different" and so glad we did! It's so creative the way they infuse their drinks and food. Some things are even served in beakers! The presentations are so cool. I got a "Gin Fusion" and a Flux Capacitor and my husband got a Molecular Mule. We got the mango buttermilk panna cotta that looks like eggs and then candied/sugar bacon! I think we got some kind of shrimp appetizer. Also got sweet potato tater tots or something. Don't remember. But I know it was good! Sauces were good. My family and I ate at the Chemist on 5/28/2017 - my brother was interested in the theming as he is an actual chemist, and I was on the hunt for some decent restaurants in the area; so we gave this restaurant a try based on good yelp reviews, and we were not disappointed! When we arrived, we did feel slightly underwhelmed regarding the theming (I will note that we arrived during daylight, and it looked like they have some pretty cool lighting if you visit after the sun sets). We were at first skeptical of the menu, as it appeared to be quite short when they handed it to us. My mom is a vegetarian, and there were not any meals on the menu that she could eat. However, not to worry! The waiter quickly came up with a delicious option for her (tomato bisque and a grilled cheese) which she said was awesome! I ordered the unicorn fish, which was seriously amazing! I can be picky when it comes to fish, but this dish was awesome. My brother ordered the burger, and he said that it was one of the best burgers he's ever had! My friend ordered the beef short rib, which he said was out of this world; although he was left wishing that his portion was a bit larger. Overall, while we were a bit underwhelmed by the atmosphere, we were totally blown away by the quality of the food and interesting ingredients! read more

We ate here for the first time for our anniversary trip and it was soooo good! Now I will say they're drinks are very strong . Our drinks came out in a smoking beaker's. It was amazing we videoed it.
