I was on my first ever visit to Myrtle Beach a few months ago (for the eclipse!). My girlfriend had found this place a few weeks before our trip and said we absolutely HAD to go. We are both pretty science-minded and I thought it looked really cool. We were seated right away and while the restaurant was understaffed, the head bartender (who also was our waiter) managed to never let our drinks run dry. The appetizers came out really quickly and the food not terribly long after. I don't recall what my girlfriend had but I had a Sriracha glazed chicken sandwich. I've got to say it was one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in my life. Although...I feel like food on vacation always tastes better... I've grown so accustomed to DC prices that this place came as a pleasant surprise. VERY affordable across the menu. The parking situation is interesting - you are encouraged to park in a small lot across a grassy area and a couple blocks away. There are warning signs posted prominently that say to advise your waiter/waitress of your license plate RIGHT AWAY. Not sure if these are for scare or if they are actually enforced. We had no problem with parking, though. If there was a place like this in DC I'd be a pretty regular customer. Can't argue with good service, good food and good drinks. Short and simple. read more

Ever since they opened, I was excited to visit The Chemist. It was all I was anticipating and more! Upon entering, the wait staff was friendly and helpful. They all seemed to be excited to interact and serve. That's always a good sign walking in! We say down at the bar and were immediately approached by one of the bar tenders. We welcomed us and let us know that he was ready to serve as soon as we were ready. I have to comment on the signature drinks. Mainly I want to comment on the amount. They range from the hearty, to the bitter, to the semi-sweet, and even desert. There are plenty of excellent, unique drinks to choose from for ANYONE'S taste preferences. Personally, I don't care for sweet drinks. I am an Old Fashioned or a Dirty Martini kind of guy. My wife on the other had, she enjoys Mojitos and Sangria. We both found drinks that would suite our taste. I ordered the Old Luxardo. It is their version of an Old Fashioned with bourbon soaked Luxardo cherries. It was fantastic. Many of their ingredients seem to be made in house. As we were drinking they were actually making their Cucumber Simple Syrup right there behind the bar! I believe they even make their own bitters. That being said, the drink tasted top shelf and fresh. For now, that is all I can review. We did not eat since we had just come from dinner at Art Burger, which has the same owner. We did look at the menu though. Every dish sounded delicious and upscale. One thing to note before going to The Chemist is that it is definitely upscale for this area and along with that comes upscale prices. Each of our drinks were $10 and I believe the cheapest entree on their menu was $14. So if you are not prepared for an expensive night, you may want to look elsewhere. However, I will say that from our experience, it was absolutely worth what we paid! read more

If I could give this place a negative star I would. We stopped in based on internet reviews. They were wrong. My guess is this was an interesting place when it first opened but has since gone down hill. We had two 18 year olds and asked for a Mock-tail , "I guess, I can just throw some random-juices together". Wait staff spent more time talking about their last night drinking escapades than working. Drinks were very small and very expensive The bathrooms hadn't been cleaned from the night before. Flower pots outside had weeds growing in them. Flooring was pealing away in several places. The food was good but the atmosphere is pretty amazing! I loved he dry ice show at the table. I had the chicken club, it was juicy and flavorful. The sweet potato tots were a must have. My adult children wanted to check out this cocktail bar, so off we went. This establishment is on the south side of Kings Hwy. The interior is modern/industrial decor. We sat at the bar and drinks were ordered off the glass menu. Everyone was proofed. My son ordered the Flux Capacitor, my son in law ordered the Bourbon Flare and my daughter ordered something, I cannot remember the name of, but it was sweet and fruity. I ordered diet Pepsi, but did take tastes of their drinks. I already described my daughters drink, my son's Flux Capacitor had a more vodka flavor to it. My son in law had my favorite, the Bourbon Flare. Service was professional and courteous. The drinks in my opinion were expensive, however I don't drink, but the kids felt the prices were acceptable and had no issues with it. Parking in this area may be tricky, but if you are in the area, go visit the chemist. read more

We arrived late on Tuesday night, around 8pm. The place was empty but I assume that's just because it's still their slow season. We ordered a couple of drinks and they tasted ok. Nothing special. Couldn't detect the housemade ginger beer that was in my drink. We had burgers and chips to eat. Also just okay. Way too pricey for what you get. The staff was friendly. My buddy and I stopped in here for a drink. They had Long Island Iced Teas on special. The drinks were good, service was friendly and attentive. The biggest issue for use was the cleanliness. The bar top was sticky, the bathroom stunk and was trashed. The drinks were well worth the money, but I don't know if we will make it back. read more

When we visited it was during the off season in Myrtle Beach so most of the restaurants are closed. We decided to visit the Chemist based on reviews. It was okay, nothing special in our opinion. Fine dining like this needs a chef in attendance, the presentation was fine but the food was tasteless, the ahi tuna was dry and bland, the dusting of coriander was totally burnt out so it was like sawdust. (How can you make medium rare tuna dry? !!) The firecracker shrimp was no better than out of a cheap Chinese restaurant, the grilled tomato cheese panini was far worse than the Panera bread counterpart, my salmon and risotto was well presented and cooked right but lacked seasoning. The whole experience was a disappointment, obviously the menu was prepared by someone with skill but was executed by paid drones that cooked by numbers not feeling. read more

After a chilly walk along the boardwalk in early December, I walked up 9th Avenue to check out this unique restaurant on my last night in Myrtle Beach. As I approached, a white lab coat clad waitress opened the door and greeted me. Since it was the off season and I was the only one in the restaurant, I sat at the bar where Dan (who was fantastic, personable, and attentive) explained the menus to me. He explained that their cocktails are all crafted from ingredients that they make on site. Courtney was most helpful and recommended a wonderful wine that paired well with the lamb. The lamb was tender, full of flavor, and cooked to perfection. Also, it was under $20/plate for all the main dishes.. If you haven't tried The Chemist and you are in Myrtle Beach - run and go try it. I really liked this place! It had a cute chemistry theme (hence the name) with the periodic table on the floor and chemical symbols and numbers on the tables! The atmosphere was good and the waitstaff were helpful in dealing with my dietary needs (I have Celiac). The waitress wore a lab coat! The drinks come In a variety of different beakers! A hidden gem off the boardwalk. Was drawn in by the sign as a nerd and love for chemistry. They don't open until 4 and we wanted lunch. But we came back at 9 to get drinks (kitchen was closed). The drink menu is long and wordy. You'll be reading 3 sentences before realizing it's just a gin and tonic. They also have "draft cocktails," premade cocktails... little bit of a turn off. They close early as well too we were only able to get one drink. & they were turning people away at the door at 9:45. The true reason for the 4 stars is the bartender- super friendly & helpful to find cozy local spots nearby. I'd def check this place out again. read more

This restaurant has a thing, it's kind of like a little bar for nerds who like things that look cool. But you really shouldn't look too hard or you'll realize that it's really all for show. The drinks aren't anything more special than the glasses they're served in. In fact, they're pretty weak. I wasn't impressed at all. The delivery is what you're paying for. "OOHhhh look! Dry ice!" Big whoop. The drink still tastes watered down and you just paid $3 dollars more for it. The sweet potato tots appetizer with bacon dip is really good though! They are not consistent. So, this tells me they have some problems in the kitchen. I ordered the shrimp scampi and got shrimp on top of spaghetti in butter water. It was kind of a let-down based on the reviews I'd been reading since the place opened. This is definitely not a place I'd come back to. There's really no point in paying more money for less alcohol just because they serve it in a glass that you've never seen because you don't shop the SkyMall magazine. Whatever. My fiancé, his sister and her husband all came to the Chemist last night for mothers day dinner. I b was a bit apprehensive for a few reasons (never go out to eat on a holiday the service is never as good and the prices are usually hiked up), but decided to give this place a try. Just an fyi, it might be because we're from NYC but the sizes are slightly smaller and the prices are a bit high but the food is genuinely worth it. We started with the scallops, beef appetizer and seared ahi tuna. DELICIOUS. I've never had such fresh well prepared scallops and the meat was so incredible tender. My brother in law loved the ahi tuna but I like my tuna very rare and seared very briefly whereas this had a little too much time on the stove. For drinks we tried quite a few... haha! Thyme machine, professors punch, gin fusion (my personal fave) Flux capacitor, sixth element,molecular mule (group favorite) and atomic bulliet (another great one). For our main course I ordered the lamb (SO JUICY) my fiancé ordered the pork belly and his sister ordered one of the beef entrees. We all shared and absolutely loved everything. Dessert was "okay".. but honestly this place still gets 5 out of 5 stars for its service and overall exceptional meals. read more

We used to live here for 15 years and moved to Charlotte 6 years ago and we come back often and was very pleased to see this type of concept pop up in myrtle. We started off with the duck, flatbread and pimento cheese appetizers. Flatbread and pimento cheeses dip were very good. The duck app was good in taste but the smallest slice of duck with each piece and with the size of the bread and the cheese that was on top of it you could not taste the duck. The piece of duck was way to small for the vehicle that was holding it. Entrées: lamb was very good, we ordered shrimp scampi it was good but a little advice take out the lemon rines before serving. The smoked trout over risotto was nothing to write home about. The trout was dry and overcooked and the risotto was waaaaay over cooked almost like sticky rice. They did take it off the bill which was nice. The specialty cocktails were good. Overall it was average for our 1st time but the concept is really cool. read more

Just had a great dinner here. The Shrimp Scampi was delicious but the big winner was the Shepherd's Pie. Mango Panna Cotta with candied bacon for desert was also fantastic. Staff and service were excellent. A bit pricey, around $95 all in for two of us. Definitely worth a try. read more

Even though they only have one location that has been open less than a year, the place has the polish and thoughtfulness you'd expect from a well-established (and we'll run) chain. But they are most definitely not a chain. Their cocktail menu is creative, and their food shows respect to folks looking for more than just bar grub. I went with my wife and daughters and we enjoyed the innovative drink menu and sampled a few from the Atomic Bullet to the Labtini and the Moscow Mule all were thoughtful prepared and excellent drinks The appetizers were great we had the fried vegetable and Buck Rabbit which was very impressive tasty and well balanced Entrees were fantastic also we had the smoked salmon, ahi tuna, shepards pie and the char-Siu All were tasty and enjoyed by all Desserts were a great way to finish dinner We had a fantastic time and would recommend it without reservations to anyone and will come again the next time we are in Myrtle beach read more

Let's start with the food. That's what we came for, not the ambiance or the fancy cocktails. I had the poke bowl and my wife had the scallops served with Japanese seaweed and a Thai butter sauce with lemon molecular "caviar." We both agreed that these were probably the best appetizers we have ever eaten. I do recommend keeping the ahi away from the Sriracha squiggle. (BTW, I've seen other reviewers describe the ahi as "rare." The ahi in poke is not rare; it is raw, as it should be). Next, we both chose the Wagyu sirloin, medium rare, with demi-glace, deep fried Bearnaise, green beans and crushed potato. The green beans were cooked correctly, just right, but nothing to get overly excited about. But who knew the humble potato could be so good? And with demi-glace, even better. We put the Bearnaise on top of our steaks, cut it open and let it drip down for added goodness. Now the steak itself - it was a very decent size, beautiful looking, brown on the outside and a true medium rare inside. It was probably about 1.75" high (maybe 2"). So far, so good, but maybe the word Wagyu threw me. I guess I was expecting something more like a filet on the tenderness scale. It was a little chewy, to me. I had two small pieces that were inedible, but my wife had none. So, overall the main was still quite good, but not as good as those apps! We did not have dessert. The servers were pleasant and knowledgeable about food and drink. They took time for a decent chat, which we enjoyed. I asked a question about the freshness of the poke and got an honest answer (which I'm glad to say did not hold me back). My only disappointment with the service was the inordinate amount of time it took for my mid-meal beer to be delivered. Way too long - grab a beer slap it down on my table and then go make cocktails, get ice, etc. The photos on the website gave me the impression that this was an ultra-modern, sort of laboratory clean, brand new place. Not exactly. It was a little more "Myrtle Beach" than "Clean Room." Nothing really wrong at all, just don't feel like you have to dress up to go there. We were tempted by some excellent sounding sandwiches, had we not ordered the steaks. There were some other intriguing apps, too. And craft beers and fancy cocktails for you fancy pants. This was our first visit. Happily for us, it was locals appreciation night, which just made everything even better. We plan on returning with some out of town guests. read more

We were told to visit the Chemist by their sister restaurant ArtBurger and Sushi Bar. Chemist opened September 15 and is doing pretty well according to Courtney the GM who spent time quizzing our experience. Britt was out waitress and helped us through our chemistry exam and was a lot of fun dressed in her lab coat. The cocktail menus is pretty amazing. 3 of us had craft cocktails which we all enjoyed. The water glasses were beakers. The menu is clear and backlit The food menu is very unique to say the least. We had 4 different meals consisting of a beef dish similar to a nice Sunday pot roast, a shrimp scampi, shepherds pie and a trout dish that came out under a bell dish. All of the entrees where prepared in a very modern and fun way. We finished with a nitrogen infused truffle dish that was amazing. So what did our group conclude. It was one of the most unique dining experiences any of us have ever had. With that said we all believe the menu choices needs to increase. There were no greens available so no salad. But we all have high hopes that over time fine tuning will keep this as a place to go in Myrtle Beach. They certainly deserve it! read more

Molecular Mule Flux Capacitor Professor's Punch Scallops cooked perfect Lobster bisque unique presentation and very creamy/seasoned well Pork belly was my favorite with my favorite vegetables, peas and puree of peas. Super soft belly, melted perfectly. Could of used a bit more acid instead of bbq since the sauce overpowered the natural pea flavor. But it was still very good. Went to sister restaurant Art Burger and Sushi Bar as well. Where can you get a great burger with good beef and sushi of all kinds? This is the only place, totally an awesome idea. read more
