I've been going here for service since I purchased my corvette at Shepard Chevy. They keep you updated. Dealers are always a little more expensive. I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Kunes Lake Chevrolet in Lake Forest deserves one. On Monday, July 27, during one of the worst storms in the Midwest, I visited the dealership to purchase a 2018 Nissan Sentra listed for $5,000. I test drove the vehicle, decided to buy it, and was ready to complete the purchase. Unfortunately, the dealership lost power due to the storm, making it impossible to finish the paperwork. I waited for about an hour before leaving because there was still no power. The following morning, I stayed in contact with my salesperson, Hashem, who informed me the dealership was still without power. We agreed that I would return Wednesday after work to complete the purchase. Then, just five minutes before I got off work on Wednesday, I received a call informing me the car had been sold to someone else. This is what makes the situation so frustrating. We communicated on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and at no point did anyone place a hold on the vehicle, even though I had already test driven it, committed to purchasing it, and the only reason the sale wasn't completed was because the dealership had no electricity. A simple "sold pending" sign or a hold for a customer who was actively working with the dealership would have shown basic professionalism and respect. Instead, I wasted multiple days, rearranged my schedule, and got my hopes up for nothing. I left feeling misled, disappointed, and completely undervalued as a customer. Unexpected circumstances like a power outage aren't the dealership's fault. However, how they handled the situation afterward absolutely was. Customer service is about communication, follow-through, and doing right by people. In my experience, Kunes Chevrolet failed on all three. I will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this dealership based on how my purchase was handled. read more

I was in contact with this dealership regarding a 2022 Tesla Model S (36k miles, black) that was advertised to me at around $41,321 (I have proof of the listing). The salesperson was very professional and helpful throughout the process -- no complaints about him. However, after collecting my personal information and running my credit, the dealership increased the vehicle price by $4,000-$4,500, bringing the deal close to $45k-$47k. This is completely unacceptable. They ran my credit, created inquiries, impacted my score, and did not honor the original advertised price. I am not pursuing this legally, and I am already in the process of purchasing a vehicle elsewhere, but this kind of practice is misleading and unethical. I have always been a fan of cars (and bikes). I've had a number of notable ones and as such, I have had a variety of transaction experiences - dealers, private parties, online and in-person auctions, etc., but I have to say I have never had a better transactional experience that what I had at Chevy Exchange in Lake Bluff, IL. First of all, Viviana Quinto was great in keeping in touch with rapid responses via email, calls, and text. As I live 200 miles away, that gave me great peace of mind. She managed all the paperwork, negotiations, financing, and even a wheel swap. All done perfectly albeit long distance. Once I arrived at the dealership, Danny Trujillo took over and was just amazing in his thorough orientation to the car's functionality and options. His knowledge and expertise of all the ins-and-outs of the new C8 was so very helpful and appreciated. He also set me up with OnStar and the app. He was very patient with my myriad of questions and wanting to try out and set every imaginable feature the 2023 C8 had to offer. As it was spec'd as a Z51 2LT there was a lot to cover, and by the time I left, I felt very comfortable and confident that I knew how to properly use all the features. If you call service anytime time close to the time they clock out it's horrible service. Called on a Saturday 15 mins before closing. For a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3pc Power back glass assembly . However I was given such a hard time due to being a WOMAN. They assured me that all parts are sold separately and I could not purchase a 3pc back glass(ASSEMBLY) I had to purchase all parts individually As a woman that works in the automotive industry I know what type of parts are sold as a unit and separately but they were very unprofessional and as one staff member said in a very rude tone "NO you don't understand and know what you are looking for" and left me on hold for 10 mins and never answer my call . I've taken my truck five separate times for the same issue and it doesn't seem to be fixed. The technicians are thorough with the service provided. The issue still persist. During one of the visits, the mechanic who would work on my truck, sarcastically, said "more warranty work, I'm great at those". I felt the mechanic was annoyed to have to work on a vehicle that was under factory warranty. I felt I would not get the same level of service compared to a customer who was paying for the services. I have not heard back from the service manager after requesting a meeting with him and the employee who made the comment. I don't recommend taking your vehicle for warranty work. read more

TLDR: They have a good facade giving the impression that they care about their customers, but as soon as you go under it, there's nothing but cost cutting, indifference, and lack of desire to help their customers. I've been servicing my 2023 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE at the Chevy Exchange ever since I bought it. In this time, I've had 6 or 7 visits to their service department, and I got to see how they handle anything from simple fixes, to more complex jobs like replacing the exhaust headers. It all ended when my car was stolen from their parking lot while waiting to be repaired. When it comes to simple repairs, they do a decent job. Customer service is nice. Technicians have a good understanding of how to fix your basic issue. As soon as things get more difficult however, get ready to waste a lot of time driving to the dealership and back. During every issue I've had, their only goal was to get the car out of the service center as quickly as possible. Sometimes even if the car isn't safe to drive. One time the technician told me to keep driving the car, even though there was a leak in the exhaust headers. I pointed out that this can cause bad O2 readings, and potential engine damage, but he didn't care. I got in, and didn't even drive 20 feet before the car started misfiring, and I had to leave it at the dealership once again. I also had multiple encounters where they told me the car is "fixed", and as soon as I picked up my car, it's clear the issue is still present. Once again, their goal is to get your car out of the service shop. Doing proper testing after "fixing" it isn't a priority. While all of the above are yellow flags, that's nothing compared to how they handle situations when things really get out of hand. 2 months ago my car was stolen from their parking lot while waiting to be repaired. Aside from the initial phone call notifying me that my car was stolen, they never reached out again, never tried "to make things right", never attempted to check in and see if I need anything. They just washed their hands, told me to file an insurance claim with my own insurance, and took zero responsibility for everything. Somehow their insurance found out about the theft, and they did end up handling my case, but that was in no way thanks to the dealership since they explicitly told me to file a claim with my own insurance. What really made it clear that they don't care about their customers was the service manager's reply when I inquired if they are willing to cover the personal items in my car. The service manager flat out refused, and told me that according to the contract I signed when I dropped off the car, they are not responsible for personal items in the vehicle. And while legally he might be right, I feel like covering a couple hundred dollars in personal items is the least they can do considering the amount of trouble they caused. Overall I'm really disappointed in the Chevy Exchange. Unfortunately some family matters arose that prevented me from purchasing the vehicle as of yet however the customer service at the Chevy exchange is absolutely outstanding. They treated me and my children as if we were entering a Vegas casino and catered to all of our needs. They were able to get the price where I needed it to be and I am hoping to eventually pull the trigger in the coming weeks. Made a service appointment for the car"s first oil change on line weeks in advance and stated I would wait for the car. The dealer is about 60 miles from my home. Received an email verifying my service appointment. The morning of the service about 35 minutes before my appointment while driving to the dealer, the service department called and informed me that their only technician that works on Corvettes took a long 4th of July weekend. They informed me that making the appointment on line was a problem and that I should have called instead. My option was drop off and leave my Corvette there over the weekend and find my own way back home, or reschedule. Terrible customer service. My decision, find a dealer that values the customer. I was trying to drive home from IL to MI due to being evacuated out of my student housing due to COVID-19. Everything that could have gone wrong with my drive home did. I had to get a tow in Washington Park Chicago (and someone tried to sell me drugs). I was very scared and the dealership the tow driver took me to was going to be indefinitely closed due to the shelter in place initiative. So then I had to have my car towed back to North Chicago. I was panicking and then i found this dealership! Dan and his team were AWESOME! They were able to get my car serviced at a moments notice. They fixed my car up real quick and gave me a fair price. I purchased a car and 40 days later was asked to bring car back because finance wasn't secured ( meaning the finance unfortunately did not go through). I understand it happens. However they refused to give my down payment back. And I was humiliated by the manager who yield at me and made me feel extremely embarrassed and belittled. I never wanted to write this. I was going to leave it be but after a lot of consideration I know this needed to be shared. Back in May I started having issues with my car over heating. My engine light came on and I knew my AC was out. Since this is the dealership I bought my car from I THOUGHT they'd be the most honest and helpful. In the month of May alone, the dealership had my car 3 different times. When they called me they told me it wasn't over heating my car was just missing a cap on a admission valve. Since it was so cheap they said it was free. Also telling me my ac wasn't broken my temperature sensors were just off. 30 minutes after I left the dealership my engine light was on again and My car was over heating. I took it back to be told the temperature valve was messed up. So that was about $700 out of pocket. When I got my car back it doesn't even tell me the temperature outside anymore and again was over heating within 30 minutes (this was after them having it 4 days. (meaning I'm ubering to work everyday) I take it back again for them to tell me it's my AC unit. This time they have my car for about a week. Never offering a loaner car until the day before they gave me my car back. Which was an addtional $1200 for service . My ac still was not working. But busy of being financially abused my this dealership I had to get another job. With it being 30+ minutes away I wasn't able to take it in because they never offered me a loner other than for a day, and I still need to make a living to survive. Since my workers were so long at my job I was not able to take it back in even though my AC still was not working. I tried to called tell them my problem after I got better hours at my job. They told me since it's been a month it would be another charge. Rick was the person to service me the first 3 times. One time we came back and Rick was not there it was only Elmer. I came with both of my parents because alone as a female they just kept giving me a run around. Elmer behind the desk looks at us and then walks into a office to talk to a man for 10 minutes and acts like we don't exist. I was upset and still didn't decide to write a review because I know some people deal with prejudice and sometimes you have to turn your shoulder. The reason I wrote this is because since the beginning they have told me something different every time. Never taking down notes when I told them the problems. Just telling me different stuff. After already struggling to pay 2000 dollars to them. I'm again about to be charged for something they said they fixed. I would not suggest this dealership for any services. Because they're not going to fix it. And they will over charge you with bad customer service. I can say Rick as a person seemed pretty genuine just needs to be more detail oriented. I did not purchase my car here ( I did that in Omaha) but since I have a new Chevy I get free oil changes and service. I brought my 2015 sonic in for it's first oil change and they were kind enough to vacuum my trunk, seats, and floor. (I was informed they normally don't do that). I was however annoyed they filled up my tires with regular air because my tires had nitrogen in them. They later told me they don't have nitrogen and it "wouldn't be a big deal". They also informed me that my car had a recall but they couldn't tell me for what because it was "newly issued and they didn't have any information about it yet". Well that's comforting to be told. When I went home all I had to do was a quick google search to find out it had to do with the car's software. A week goes by and I realized my car's power adapter didn't work properly so I brought it in to be fix. Now they finally knew about the recall and they told me it was an "easy fix" and they would just reprogram the car with the software Chevy provided them. I was happy because I thought this would fix the issues with my on star getting stuck or never appearing on screen. Well it didn't. After they finished I immediately discovered my backup camera didn't work. They had zero clue why this happened and I was told it was too late in the day to have them redo the car so I had to return on again on Monday. (Also this is highly inconvenient because we're a one car family and my husband works weird hours at the base. The best they offered to do was take me home and then come get me when it was done. My dealership back home would have given me a loaner car) I returned Monday and it took another hour and a half to reprogram the car. The camera worked and seemingly everything else did too.... until I tried to use onstar about 20 minutes later. The on star would NOT appear on screen and I turned the car off, turned it back on, reset the directions, had onstar resend them, it wouldn't work. I was nearby so I drove to the dealership and shockingly it worked when they turned the car back on. Needless to say I was getting exasperated at this point. The guy working gave me his card and told me to come back in if I was having issues still. That was a few months ago and guess what? I'm having issues with onstar still. I recently found out that if I have my ipod attached via auxiliary cord it won't load onstar directions on the display (although you can still hear them). This is getting super frustrating and I don't know if the problem lies in Chevrolet itself or the Exchange I'm bringing it to. I'll be making an appointment soon to have them try to "fix" it again. read more

I brought my 2017 Equinox in for repair knowing what the problem was after being sent here by my normal shop that could not fix this particular issue. From the moment I walked in and delt with Elmer Hortelano I felt uneasy. I was told that I would be called with information once they had a chance to examine the problem. The next morning, I received a phone call around 8am. There was a lot of overexaggerated talk before I was given a quote of over $4000 for essentially a gasket replacement! I requested that a detailed estimate be emailed to me so that I could examine the charges more carefully and was then told that the "diagnosis" was going to be $199.00 if I wanted to pick my vehicle up instead. No fees of any kind were discussed or disclosed at drop off. After never receiving the requested estimate, I called back and requested it AGAIN from Elmer. What I received was a joke and was not formal detailed estimate. Long story short I will NEVER return to this dealership, and I suggest anyone who values integrity does not either. read more

When I was shopping for a newer used car, on-line, I found that The Chevy Exchange had one in which I was interested. When I walked into the dealership, it was obvious that a bunch of the employees across the room were watching me but trying to avoid making eye contact. As I walked around the showroom, I felt like I was terribly out of my league because all the cars were $100,000 to $300,000, mostly Camaros and Corvettes. Suddenly, form a corner where I hadn't noticed him, came a salesman. When I told him what I was interested in, he said that he didn't do used cars, but would get me someone to help me. As I was about to just leave, he finally came back and told me that he would try to assist me. Once we confirmed that the dealership had the car in which I was interested, he went to have it brought to the front of the lot so I could look at it. Upon getting inside, I was immediately repulsed by the smell of cigarette smoke, and told him that I wouldn't consider the vehicle any further until it was cleaned. He called me a couple times to try to get me to come back to further discuss that car, saying that they would clean it after I bought it, and I was adamant that I wouldn't even discuss how much I would pay for that car until the smoke smell was gone. Then a woman from the dealership called and as we were discussing the car, she told me that it would last over 200,000 miles. When I asked her if she would put that warranty in writing, she laughed, and I told her I was serious: if she, representing the dealership, was trying to sell it by saying that the car would last over 200,000 miles, she should be willing to put that in writing. She then brought the conversation back around and asked me what it would take to get me in that car. And I told her number one: to clean the smoke smell out of it; and number two: to put the 200,000 mile warranty that she had just mentioned in writing. She quickly ended the conversation, and I never heard from any of them, again. A few weeks later, I found the same make and model at another dealership, and brought it to the service department at The Chevy Exchange and paid them for an inspection and appraisal, and they gave it a robust thumbs up. Based on the way I was treated then, I brought the car back when it needed and oil change. Within 24 hours after having the oil changed, I was stopped by a police officer because I had a burnt out headlight. Upon inspecting it with the officer, I found that the wiring clip had come off, and reconnected it. In another 12 hours, the accelerator position sensor malfunctioned intermittently. When I went to an auto parts store and they read the codes, at first there was no problem, and then they told me that the sensor wasn't receiving electrical power. They said yes, it sounded like it could be another loose connection, or the sensor was just on the verge of total failure. Then the next day, I received a letter from the general manager of the dealership, dated the day after the oil change, saying that they would like to buy my car and help me get into something newer. That's just too much of a coincidence for me and I'll never go back to The Chevy Exchange ever again! read more

Spent $400 on them and when installing they didn't fit (about half an inch bigger than needed). I went to return them and was told they were used and they wouldn't take them. Explained that they were brand new as I couldn't even install them. The parts man told me "that's too bad, now get the hell out of here, we're done talking about this." Really? Took 2 hours for a simple oil change. I was told i would receive a "complementary" car wash and vacuum (of the 2 front seats). I got into my car after 2 hours of waiting and NOTHING had been cleaned. Still had bugs on my car and still had hair and dirt everywhere (shared a picture). Wasn't expecting much but to make me wait 2 hours for NOTHING is just rude. The "time opened" and "time ready" on my invoice tells me it was ready for me after only an hour. I wish i could rate a negative stars. read more

The Chevrolet Exchange is Owned by the same ownership as Audi and Porsche Exchange. Because of the relationship and the challenges I had encountered owning my Porsche with service issues etc, requiring back and forth trips to the Porsche dealer in the past year, I had decided to use Chevy Exchange. The service department at Porsche had been responsive, helpful, and trustworthy. This, when I informed them I was in the market for a truck and not a Porsche I was referred to their Chevy store in Lake Bluff. Prior to my visit, I was told the leaders at the Porsche dealer were informing the sales manager at Chevy to work with me, give me fair pricing, and provide a positive sales experience. Well, the overall experience was acceptable in beginning. I called ahead and set an appointment, speaking to an internet associate named Saray. I scheduled an appt asking her to be sure Rafi, the sales manager spoke to Mario in service at Porsche, the leader who had referred me. Assured this would take place, I arrived for my appt at 1130 Saturday and was greeted by a sales associate name Muhdi. He asked me the nature of my visit and I explained I was to meet Saray and also Rafi. Rafi was busy and came later to introduce himself. Saray was out for a family issue. Moving through details, the meat of the matter in this situation was I brought a Porsche with a KBB and Edmunds trade in value of 32K-33K and was asked by Rafi what I was hoping to get in trade for my car on the 2018 Chevy trucks I was looking at. Of course my response was 32K! After driving a handful of trucks and arriving at a suitable purchase candidate, Rafi came back into the picture took a seat at Rafi's desk and proceed to tell me after speaking to Porsche Exchange and speaking on behalf of the manager there he was prepared to give me 25K for my car because my style car and year, though listed as trade in value at 32-33K, was retailing for that amount. Thus, he was informed 25K was all they could offer. Well, truthfully i could get that amount anywhere anytime if I wanted to give my car away metaphorically. They were doing me no favors. And the truck I selected was even a truck I really wanted. It was merely a compromise if I was going to be treated fairly. Thus, I told Rafi his offer was an insult and I felt as though I had been deceived and they were hoping to flip my car for an easy 7K-8K profit plus what they were making on the truck. And this was after the Porsche Exchange had made thousands in service on this car at $249/hr under warranty. Rafi's response well service and sales are different. Nothing could be further from the truth. Having been a car dealer owner, I can assure anyone shopping for a car, service and sales are interwoven in the final tax return as gross revenue for the dealer and they are interrelated. Oil Change took 2 hours 45 minutes and still not done. Had to take a loaner home. The sales department is great. The service sucks. They still haven't fixed my tail gate problem from two years ago. Decided it was time to bite the bullet! New car time. For most, this is exciting and a really fun thing, for me....not so much. I hate it, in fact. This place rocked! I went into to test drive a Mercury Mariner that Mike found online...I wasn't too impressed but thought what the heck?! I didn't like it one bit. It felt very plastic and I think Monico, our wonderful salesman, knew that I wasn't feeling it. I thought we would check out a few other places, but then out of the corner of my eye, I saw a beautiful, black Passat. I asked about it, he pulled up all of the information and before I knew it, I had a new car! The staff there was amazing! They were so nice, and not your typical car salesman. I LOVE my car and they have been so great since I bought the car. Monico called me to see if I'd be interested in winning hockey tickets, OF COURSE! He also called to check up on me and the car, which was really nice. Mike wrote a review and Monico was very appreciative. I have to give props to their service department as well. The tire pressure light was on when I purchased the vehicle, so they told me bring it in if it continues to light up and we'll take care of it. I'm thinking.....great I'm going to have to put new tires on.....NOPE. Took it on a Saturday, they fixed the leak in the valve at no cost to me and I got a nice hot cup of coffee on the house as well. I'm telling you, I have found my long term car dealer!
