My girlfriend recently bought a car from The Chevy Exchange and she is very happy with her purchase. Our sales agent was very friendly and accommodating. The whole car buying process was really for Ashley, but Monico (not sure if spelled correctly) showed me where the hot chocolate machine was, and that scored big points with me. They also have retro coke machines where you can buy bottles of soda for $.10. It's pretty awesome. Oh yea, they have a great selection of cars too! When we test drove the car that Ashley bought, the tire pressure light was on. She got it fixed from the service department and it came back on a few days later. They said to bring it in and they will take care of it. So its very nice to see a dealership stand by their word that they will make the car like-new when you buy it. read more

These guys are terrible. I can only blame myself for continuing to try to work with them. I should have stopped long ago when they unscrupulously handled A transaction involving a family member. Over the years, I have purchased four cars from them, and last year, I chose to take my business elsewhere, and away from Chevy, altogether, when they showed me inferior customer service. Only this morning, I brought in my 2013 Chevy volt for an estimate. I am purchasing a new car (not a Chevy) from a different dealership, and I wanted to get Chevy Exchanges appraisal for the Volt . They knew all about The vehicle, as I have purchased it from them originally. Over the telephone, they indicated great interest in the vehicle, and suggested that the bluebook value was $13,700, that they were looking for inventory, and might be prepared to offer even more. Would I bring it by? I live within 20 minutes of the dealership, so I drove right over. After looking at the vehicle, I was offered $9000. Admittedly, there is a little bit of body damage, but the car is mechanically sound and I had already indicated to them what the mileage on the vehicle was. No way was the car worth almost $5000 less. This is my most recent, and I am afraid my last, experience with Chevy exchange. Take your business elsewhere read more

11/12/14 - Brought my car here for the dreaded ignition key recall. The people who waited on me were very kind and courteous. I was in and out in about thirty minutes. Since one of my chip keys was missing and the other was broken they supplied me with not only a new ignition switch but also to brand spanking new chip keys. Since this was a recall my total cost was $0.00. How great is that! Nice lounge too. FYI - Ignore Google maps - the main entrance is off of US 41 southbound - south of IL 176. Bought a Certified used Chevy Volt earlier in the week. Already owning a hybrid vehicle i was looking for a secondary vehicle. Was always curious on the Volt and being a hatchback. I didn't know much about it but knew how the EV worked. Made few inquiries online and Michelle responded with few questions I had. There wasn't any photographs online and she nicely texted me few photos of the car. Having had some bad luck on other dealerships around the Chicago area I took the drive up to Lake Bluff from downtown. Arriving I was not disappointed. They told me they just received the vehicle and has not been detailed or anything. Having already talked to Rob and mentioned I had my own finance set and he was able to get me better rates than what I was getting prior to arriving. Nicholas greeted me and helped me answer any questions I had about the vehicle. Took a spin around the block and my decision was made. I had very limited time and did as much as I could online. Talking back and forth with Rob I felt comfortable in my decision and vehicle was exactly what I was looking for. The staff was amazing and really made me feel comfortable through out purchase. Vehicle wasn't ready for me to take and we made arrangements to have it delivered to my house. I can't express how easy it was to work with them. I was even more amazed on when it was delivered. Looked like a new vehicle. Thank you so much to Michelle for sending me pictures, Nicholas for assisting me with answering questions and Rob for working with me in getting lower rates with payment I was comfortable with. Last Thursday my computer had a pop up that showed a new Chevy at what I thought was a good price at "The Chevrolet Exchange" in Lake Bluff, Illinois. I inquired about it and several other vehicles that I liked and exchanged several emails with the "Internet Specialist" getting information and zeroed in on a New 2019 Chevy Equinox for $18,666. I also indicated that I had a 2009 Pontiac G6 trade-in and provided details and they indicated a conservative valuation of $700, but that they would have to see the vehicle to offer more. Never did the "Internet Specialist" indicate there were any conditions on the price that the car was being offered. (STRIKE # 1) Made an appointment to come out on Friday at 11:00 AM with my car for a more formal appraisal. Arrived on time with my car, title and check book as a ready, willing and able buyer and they took my car to look at and give me an appraisal. They came back with a value of $2,200 after they had seen and driven it, but in the same breath they indicated that the car would now cost $1,500 more or $20,166. It seems that the price had a $1,500 incentive for a GM loyalty or conquest bonus. Never did the salesperson indicate there were any conditions on the price of the car being offered. (STRIKE # 2) Finally the last straw was when the Sales Manager indicated that the 72 months financing at 3.59% was only available for 36 month financing! The Sales Manager seemed to claim that GM was to blame because they created the AD, but the dealership is responsible to honor their advertisement as they put their name on it or should have corrected or clarified the ad to avoid any confusion. (STRIKE # 3) And we were out of there!!! read more

I'm only giving one star because I have to give something to leave a review. THE WORSE experience ever. They will run your credit through a million banks instead of just telling you that they can't help you because the SALE is that important to them. This place made feel like all the bad reputations that comes along with the car salesman title is totally true. They will definitely mess up the little credit you have. And for some reason they don't no the difference between a cosigner and a co buyer. I came to their car dealership with a cosigner and they ran the poor mans credit that he worked so hard for down the drain because they signed him up under co owner/buyer instead of cosigner. Make sure you don't come alone and if you do make sure your knowledgeable about cars. They will try too just put you in anything no matter how high the miles are. I came back the next day after my credit dropped 100 points. I just wanted answers I wasn't rude or loud but they were and they threatened to call the police on me. I recorded the whole thing. I took back the car the next day and gave it back. I called them today and they said that they will put a Repo on my credit for car that I no longer have. STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE YOUR CREDIT DEPENDS ON IT! read more

I purchased a brand new 2017 Chevy Impala less than 1 week ago. The buying experience was pleasant. Everyone was very friendly. There were attempts at selling me various protections and additional financial packages, but these were not high-pressure sales and did not make me feel uncomfortable. However, the dealership sold me a car whose floor carpet is damaged. Anyone who put the mats in the front passenger seat area in the new car would have seen it. This is not a $4 fidget spinner; I bought an almost $40K car and did not expect to spend time getting cosmetic repairs done on a brand new vehicle. If you are looking to buy a new car from this dealership make sure you inspect every nook and cranny of the car before you sign any paperwork. The only reason I give it 1 star is because their service department was the one who discovered it during an interior protection job and did not hide it from me. read more

After test driving several cars, I finally narrowed down the make and model of the car I wanted. I used True Car, to find the best deal. Stephanie Brandt, from The Chevy Exchange contacted me and we agreed to meet in person. Upon meeting Stephanie, she handed me over to Jeff Albert. Jeff found the exact car I was looking for and I made a deposit - with the understanding that the car would be delivered either Thursday or Friday of that week (the deal was made on a Monday). I had to call Jeff on Thursday to find out the status. He informed me at that time the car was coming from Canada and that it should arrive by Tuesday at the latest. Monday, I had to call Jeff AGAIN, to find out the status. He said that it would be later on that week - but I was going on vacation. So, while I was on vacation AND because I DID NOT HEAR FROM JEFF, I called Jeff again. Mind you, this is 3.5 weeks after the deposit was made. Finally, once I got home from vacation, I found out that the car was sold out from under Jeff. This never should have happened since I made the deposit, the car should have been marked SOLD. I spoke to the manager, Rob Johns, who assured me who would try to "right" the situation. I have yet to hear from Rob. By the way, my father called Jeff to communicate his displeasure about how the deal went down and Jeff hung up on him. If you want to be treated poorly and want to waste your time...then the Chevy Exchange is the right dealership for you. read more

When I purchased a car here in February 2016 the customer service was okay, nothing special. I was offered a full warranty on the car and of course I took it. When I took my car in for an oil change, I was hit with the first item of work that came out of my pocket and not from the warranty. The sales person assured me he would get my money back and of course, didn't. I sold the car in October and asked for a refund on the warranty. That is when the nightmare started. Mike from finance is HORRIBLE. F for customer service. To this day I have not received my money back and am still playing phone tag with Mike, his assistant and supervisor. If you buy a car from here buy your car and then run far far away, don't expect to get customer service follow up. I am so done with the Chevy Exchange! read more

Probably the worst dealership I've ever dealt with. I was told by Dale that the car I was looking for just came in and would be back from detail shortly. He said he would hold the car for me so I would be the first to look at it. After rearranging my schedule and driving 45 min. out of my way, I arrived to find out that another sales rep was holding it for a buddy of his. When I asked is the car for sale or not? I was told by one rep that it was and by another that it wasn't. The manager wasn't sure, but if I wanted to sit down and workout a price, he would try to get me the car even though someone else already put a deposit on it. This place is a joke! read more

Made an appointment the night before for first thing in the morning to look at a Stabilatrac issue I ran into during my trip that appeared to be very serious in the forums. I was on a tight schedule to be able to pick family up from the airport. They had me back on the road ahead of the time I needed to leave by resolving my Stabilatrac issue, changing my oil and battery. Very friendly and efficient. I have a 2004 yukon that I used to take to my local mechanic. It was him that recommend using The Exchange to fix an issue he couldn't resolve. Took the truck in and Dan Hilliard in the service department was not only super friendly but amazingly helpful and was willing to take time to explain what was wrong, how things probably broke and was even willing to go the extra mile to keep my business. I can't wait to come back and buyback newer vehicle in the future because if the sales staff is half as good as the service staff, it will be a treat to buy from this dealership. I came here with my Saab (used to be the Saab Exchange) because my car seemed to be running very hot and I could smell burning plastic coming from under the car. Once I pulled in, I was approached by Dan and asked to describe the issues I was having. After spending a few minutes describing my concerns, he didn't think it was all that serious and recommended a quick test to see if any codes come up that would signal a problem. He started off by quoting me half the hourly charge and asked me to make myself comfortable in the waiting area. Once they were done with the diagnostic tests(about 30 mins later), I was told mostly everything was fine, aside from a few minor maintenance issues. I was never told I had to replace this or that my car will explode if I don't fix that. They were straightforward and honest. They found out the smell was from a plastic bag that got caught underneath and started to melt. They scraped that off for me and sent me off with some repair recommendations. Again, I was never pressured into getting work done that wasn't necessary and they didn't use any scare tactics to scare me into making a hasty decision. The entire dealership was clean and seemed to be well maintained. I think it says a lot about the entire operation. Sure, getting anything done a the dealership is going to cost more, that's common knowledge. If I need any major work done with OEM Saab parts, I would not hesitate to come here and get it done, even if it will cost more. They have earned my trust and I highly recommend them. read more

I had originally written a great review. The longer I've worked with these people, the more I become frustrated and feel regret for buying from this dealership. I had to reach out 3 times over the course of 2 months to get answers about my spare key. I just kept getting told "we'll get back to you". They never do. I even tried making a formal complain about their customer service and it's been weeks since I've received a "We received your email and will reach out to you soon" email. I even sent it again and still nothing. Once they get your money, you're the bottom priority. The frustration is not worth it. read more

Great service! The squeaking sound coming from the hood sounded bad and I thought I was looking at major repairs. My service advisor was very calming and said it was probably the belts and we will know more when they look at it. His experience turned out to be correct, it was the belts. I was in and out quickly even though the shop was quite busy. And of course I was happy that the bill was less than I expected. My daughter's Impala was brought into the Chevy Exchange service department to comply with the broad recall for the ignition switch issue. The GM recall web site states that the cure is a new ignition switch assembly. When the car was picked up and driven home we learned that the ignition switch could not be turned off. After many minutes of trying to figure out what could be causing this, the switch had to be forced to the off position. Things that have worked for the life of a car can break the minute after the service department works on them. Why? Coincidence? Not impossible. We had to have the car towed back to the dealer on our dime. The shop said the problem was our fault. They had not done anything with the switch assembly after all, only restricted the key's hole. They said that we obviously had jammed something other than the key into the key slot. (We hadn't). The repair charge was $700 after a generous 15% discount. If we knew this unnecessary and trivial fix was not what is promised on the GM site, (we don't hang anything on the key but the fob) we would have saved 4 trips to the dealer, $700, and the insult that we abused the switch and blamed as cause of all of our troubles. read more

Their service department would earn zero stars if not for the fact that the majority of their staff are exceptionally nice and well intentioned people. Their service manager Chuck Turck however is another story. Had my car in 3 times to fix a clunking driveshaft issue they still could not fix despite sending them a factory service bulletin on the issue. Then a faulty repair leading to snapping a ball joint causing me to miss my trip that weekend, easily could have killed me if it happened on the highway. All of this would be understandable had the service manager not tried to deny that it was a faulty repair and act indignant and patronizing when I was incredibly unhappy with the quality of work. He made zero attempt in any way to remedy the customer relationship and now I'm left with a nice big scratch on the inside of my wheel. He could have easily offered some token of apology like my next oil change free but just wanted to get rid of me ASAP and instead of dealing with me personally he hid behind his service desk associates and made me go through them. I would drive to Milwaukee for maintenance before I will come back here and will most definitely never buy a vehicle from them. They care about getting your money and nothing else. Rafat, the GM, was supposed to have a phone call with me but has not returned my call for the past 3 weeks. read more

I bought my 2011 Chevy Equinox in March 2013 used. What appealed to me about this car was the low mileage. Since purchasing, this car has had problems whether it be service problem or car problems. I think it was in the department 2 times a year. Cam Shaft and I had to replace all the pistons. GM stopped sending out requests for my feedback, as I consistently rated them VERY low. I have now had two different folks come back to me to tell me that my transmission is about to go (one of them BEFORE my warranty ran out, brought in to dealership, and they told me it was my pistons). Now, of course, I have NO warranty and a car that's transmission is about to go. I still have 2.5 years of payments, and can't get a new car because no one will take!!! The dealership OBVIOUSLY sold me a lemon here and KNEW it. I'm going to look in to see what options I have now legally as I am VERY disappointed and stuck! I HONESTLY believe they knew what they were doing and sold me this car KNOWING it had obvious mechanical issues. read more

My husband brought his truck here for an oil change and asked them to check his brakes to see if they needed to be changed. They said everything was fine and did the oil change. About 7 weeks later we hear the squealing sound of brakes. He brought his truck back and asked them to see what was going on. Now they say he needs to new breaks AND rotors! He only put about 2000 miles on it in that time and the damages should not have been that severe when they have documentation of "checking them" two months ago! When he asked how they missed him needing brake pads when he asked them check they responded with "it's because we don't take the wheel off and actually inspect the brakes we just peek through the rim on the front wheels and check." So when he asked what they would do to rectify the situation they said they will give him 15% off. Well that might be somewhat acceptable if 10% wasn't a militay discount he was getting regardless. 5% does not rectify the damages THEY caused. Let's think about this, most service centers want your business and tell you when things need to be done even when you don't ask. Before I heard what little they we're willing to do to fix the situation I was hopeful the service manager would take this as a learning experience for his staff and show them why it's extremely important to do quality work the first time. When someone asks for you to inspect their brakes actually do a full inspection and not just peek through the rim. I can do that and say everything looks good and I'm not a mechanic. The reason we brought the truck to the service center was to have experts with the correct tools do the proper inspection. All in all I would never recommend this service center to anyone looking for honest, quality work because if they make a mistake they won't correct it. read more

Talked to their staff on the phone and scheduled an appt to come down and purchase a car for later that afternoon. Before I could leave (1 hour drive) they called me to tell me the car was sold. Not the best, but I appreciated the call. Few days later I received a call saying that the financing had fallen through and the car was available, and could I make it down that afternoon. It was 11:30, I said I would be there at 1. I called at 12:55 to let them know I was stuck in traffic and would be a few minutes late; they said not a problem they were having the car washed. I got there as they were pulling the car upfront, and they informed me that they had just sold the car to someone else, and that I should realize many people don't show up for appts and I should understand. I called the manager Rob Johns, who could not be bothered to return the call. Overall really impressive experience for sure. read more

My experience was both positive and negative. Dan and Evelyn were both extremely wonderful to work with and I would recommend them to anyone looking to buy a vehicle. They are kind, intelligent and fair. My negative experience was that management claimed, "your total satisfaction is our top priority" which turned out not true, in my experience. I traded my Toyota Rav 4 in late evening and ended up leaving the dealership at 10pm. My drive home having taken over an hour in a snowstorm is when I realized the only thing I did not grab was my new Coach sunglasses. The sunglasses were in the overhead compartment sunglass case where I always put them- and used all day before the evening trip up to the dealership. I left as the dealership closed so returning to get my glasses was not possible; however, I figured I would get them back once I called first thing in the morning. I called promptly when they opened as to which I was reassured that they would find them and let me know as soon as possible but apparently they weren't there or anywhere in my car. I carried out my own search to rule out losing the glasses myself. After a full week the glasses had not turned up so I requested that I speak with someone higher up. I attempted to get through to someone who could give me an alternative solution, but was shut down and no further attempt to help me locate the stolen glasses came about. My problem didn't lie so much in the loss of a personal item, it was the lack of respect and lack of effort as to what they would do to make things right. I am a firm believer in doing the right thing, and if it were me working to please my customer, I would've been the one to offer any possible solution to reassure my customer that we'll make things right. Instead, I had to be the one to ask them to talk with who dealt with my car over the night (which only could be the 1 or 2 people working the night shift) or to please look at their video cameras, and I'm not sure why it wasn't done immediately the morning that I called but nothing was done unless I asked it to be. It was absolutely ridiculous to be told that a dealership that houses millions of dollars worth of inventory, including not yet released vehicles as well as the owners personal classic car collection did NOT have video cameras in the front of the building or anywhere that they stored my vehicle. Moreover to add to my frustration, I was told, " it is what it is". Again, it was not the point of a simple personal item; it was how it was dealt with from the top -which wasn't respectful, professional or kind. I won't be back to ever buy a vehicle there again, but would recommend anyone buying a vehicle to triple check not leaving anything in their car.
