Based purely on communication/customer service. Maybe they're great stylists, but I wouldn't know. First I tried calling to ask about availability, no response. Then I sent an email using their website form, no response. Decided to just walk in and schedule something whenever they had an opening. Ended up talking to two people there who seemed nice, and both confirmed an appointment for me in a couple of days. That's two people saying, "Great, see you Monday at 4." FUN FACT: they're closed on Mondays. So cool, thanks guys. Standing outside a closed salon like an idiot was a great experience. read more

I though I don't have much time to spend on myself, I make the time to drive to west Hollywood to get my hair done by Troy. He works his magic and gives me my natural hair color at my age of 50 which is hard to do because I had a unique color brown. And since I have a full house a kids I don't have to blow dry my hair, but it doesn't matter because the way Troy cuts it, it looks just as good ! ---------- Update regarding COVID: I have severe asthma and have been highly cautious with corona. My hair was completely out of control from being in quarantine. I just HAD to come see Troy to fix my hair, and his safety precautions are so thorough I felt so comfortable. I'm a bit neurotic when it comes to my hair. I remember when I was about twelve years old, my mom took me to a Supercuts and after about 5 minutes of describing the style I would like, the barber took out Clippers and shaved my head on the number three. So, when I moved to LA I knew I would need a stylist that was conscious of my hair woes. My roommate recommended me to William Huth at the chroma Studio. Needless to say, I was a bit reserved, however I could not be happier with the results. My roommate got a completely new style, and it looks great, but I was just looking for a simple trim, and perhaps thin it out a bit. As good as the brand new cut looked, Will also nailed it with giving me exactly the trim that I wanted. I've been going to Flavia for over 3 years. Always an amazing experience. I'll not trust my hair with anyone else anymore, not only does Flavia keeps my hair looking beautiful. She also educates and takes the time to listen to you and gives her advise on what suits you best. Definitely she makes the salon experience a true pleasure and makes you feel at home when she greets you with a nice smile. I couldn't be happier when I got my hair done by Flavia to "The Academy Award's Red Carpet", Oscars/2013. She did a wonderful job. It was exactly what I wanted. I would give more than five stars if I could. Last month, I went in for had an another great hair cut. I was very pleased with the results. She cut my hair up to the shoulders and it is layered in a way that looks good styled or without doing anything. I get stopped on the street daily with people complimenting my hair. I have officially joined Chroma Studio's "Troy fan club." Let me explain. I am, sadly, a member of that generation of women who have to touch up their roots every two to three weeks, I'll admit, we're talking some 'stray greys' in there as well and it was getting past the point where I could refer to them as "highlights." I figured: how hard could it be to just grab a box of anything Tina Fey, SJ Parker or Andie MacDowell shill for, and just do it myself? Bad idea. I ended up with horizontal bands of various shades of red over the course of six months. Not bad if I'm fronting a band at an indie music festival in Eagle Rock....but I'm not. So on to Troy. I'm walking past Chroma Studio in my WEHO 'hood and I'm thinking.... It's pretty on the outside, let me Yelp. I did, I saw the multiple stars and I read the reviews. I called. They were very nice and accommodating... They must have heard the desperation in my voice. Troy sat me down and explained the process to even out the color. (FYI, he didn't mock me once!). Since it's red, it's a bit more challenging than splitting an atom or finding parking at the Hollywood farmers market. Anyway, he lifted, touched up, pulled color though, then came the Low lights for some complexity and...four hours late (that's how much attention he pays to his craft), voila, a stunning glossy, shimmering auburn mane spilling over my shoulders. The price was reasonable considering the time and effort it took make me fabulous....and it included a gorgeous blow dry! For the record, the blow dry is always included in the price of his color jobs. Troy also has his own product line but doesn't force it on you and that, my friends is uber classy. Okay...so I RARELY, if EVER, write reviews (I know, I'm one of those parasites who always use Yelp, but rarely review) BUT I am compelled to write this one. So for the past year, I was suffering from hair envy. Whenever my roommate would come home from her hair appointments she would have AHHH-MAZING hair. Seriously. Like hair straight out of a Pantene Commercial or on the cover of Vogue hair. Not that her hair is a hot mess normally, but it was sooo good after a hair appointments that I finally had to ask her if I could piggy back on an appointment with her the next time she went. Now...I have naturally curly (3b) bra strap length hair but love wearing it straight (not an easy task). Many hairstylists I have gone to in the past have either butchered my hair or tried to use straight cuts/styles on my curly hair, so I was a bit nervous. I have found stylists on Naturallycurly.com that were supposed to be curly hair specialists that didn't live up to their reviews. Then....There was EJ. I barely have words for the magic this man works. I am still a relatively new customer, but what this man does in HALF the time of my former stylist is nothing short of a miracle. He not only gave me a fantastic cut that is growing out beautifully (as he said), but it looks awesome blown out (he is a master with a brush and blow-dryer) or styled curly. He was so confident that it would grow out beautifully that he said I wouldn't need to see him for 3-5 months! It has been 3 months since my last cut, and he was absolutely right! Although, my roomie came home the other day with FAN-TASTIC hair and I was a bit bitter she went to see EJ without me! Even though he says I can wait another 2 months, I will be back sooner to see EJ....That is...if I can get an appointment. Hmmmmm, on second thought.... /kidding. He is great. No AMAZING. William Huth is a true artist! I was in desperate need of a new look this past winter. I have a lot of hair and it was just getting too long & heavy, the color too dirty-blonde drab. I didn't have anything specific in mind, I just needed HELP. So I let his inspiration take over, and the result was stunning - the cut and color were both perfection, and completely changed, lifted, refreshed my whole look. Though this isn't my regular salon now that I no longer have an office down the street, I've been over the moon every time EJ's cut, colored or styled my hair and I must say, all of my girls who use him on the regular routinely look fly. He specializes in long hair and does everything from extensions to runway work to sexy bed head blowouts guaranteed to garner some cat calls. Being an asian girl with long hair, I hate getting cuts. Why? Because no one can ever tell. It's retarded. I can get a 120 dollar hair cut or cut my own hair and its barely noticeable. Until Jacqueline finally pushed me to see EJ. EJ showed me the correct way to blow dry my bangs [MAJOR]. which we have decided to grow since bangs are definitely on their way out. He showed me simple tricks and tips that push me close to looking like serena van der woodsen and don't require a lot of time or special tools. We even agreed that my hair looked even LONGER after he cut it if you can believe that. He made me extra hot. like I stepped out of his salon and was already hit on hot. I'm going to first apologize to E.J. that it took me SO long to give him his deserving review! It's been over a year since I moved to LA and E.J. was the first to Snip. Trim. and Style my hair! Granted I already knew E.J. He still does amAzing hair! His portfolio and his sheer number of clients speak for itself! The location of Chroma can't be better situated. Located pretty much in the heart of Hollywood you can get your hair DID and go straight to the clubs or out on a nice dinner. The studio itself is clean, modern, and organized. Good music is always playing and the staff is friendly! I think the only problem would be Parking. It can be a bit frustrating at first but coming here are certain times spaces do open up. I am still traumatized from my experience at the Chroma studio. I asked for blonde highlights and a trim. I left shell-shocked with a single process dye job of orangey/brassy hair that has nothing to do with my hair color or skin color and extensions taped to my head -spending over 800$. I went back and said I was desperately unhappy and would he please fix it to the blonde I originally requested and again he made it orangey/brassy and still charged me about 350$. Nice and sweet guy but given my experience, I really don't understand how he's in the hair business. I don't feel he listened to me whatsoever- especially when I went back and plead for him to fix it. Now I have orangey, puffy, dry hair with skunky blonde roots and am going to have to find yet another person to try to undo this horrible situation. I hate looking in the mirror seeing this mess. It's embarrassing. If you have or want blonde hair do NOT go to this salon. It's going to take years for my hair to recover. read more

I found Troy through a former co-worker from the other side of the country -- the man is connected. He can take credit for all the fabulous hair on The O.C. (Rachel Bilson, anyone?) but his prices don't reflect his genius. I pay $85 for single process color but everyone always guesses I have $300 highlights -- whatever formula he uses is really multi-dimensional. He also does a killer blowout. If you're the gossipy type, Troy is totally willing to dish while he works his magic on your hair, but sadly his high-profile clients generally enlist him to do house calls. So despite his connections, the salon is not prime territory for celeb sightings if that's your thing. Just home to great color and stylin' cuts at reasonable prices. read more

A wonderful experience, on every expected level. An out of towner, I arrived to LA for a one day event for which I need an updo, or something. With LA traffic, but much reassurance from the Chroma team who stayed in phone contact, I arrived nearly 2 hrs late. With the warmest of smiles, my stylist, William H, welcomed my dehydrated, frazzled self, and a glass of water later, he went dead on Pretty Woman on it. 5 STARS FOR EJ! I'm an LA native, and have had my hair done at some of the nicest salons in Beverly Hills and LA. Let me just tell you that EJ is a miracle man - and that is probably an understatement. My hair was in terrible shape when I first sat in his chair over 2 years ago. My old stylist had used bleach to highlight my hair and left it pretty damaged. Seriously, after the first time in his chair, I knew I would never go to another stylist. Now, my hair is in the best condition it's ever been in! EJ is professional, a fast worker, and extremely detail oriented -- he's more picky than I am. I'm always impressed with how fashion forward he makes me look - everything from hair to tips on what outfits to wear with what, etc. I constantly get compliments on my hair, and he is very reasonably priced for his skill level. He could easily charge a lot more for what he can do - and every one of my friends that has tried him has loved him. The fact that he has so many long-standing clients has to speak volumes for his work. Plus, he shows you how to maintain your style easily so that you can be a diva-licious at home. Thank you, William Huth!!! The Greatest Personality in the Business. I have thick hair on my head and on my face and William took care of both of them and taught me how to take care of them better. First, the Brazilian Blowout!!! Wow! I thought it was only for ladies with long hair. I was wrong. I love the texture and look. It feels amazing and my hairs looks better than it ever has. William gave me a style beyond just a haircut. Something I haven't had in years. It's modern and fresh. The consultation was amazing. He really took his time with me and talked me through his ideas and thoughts that were spot on. There is no one in LA who does better hair than Troy Zestos. Every time I look at my hair I feel great about myself, and on top of that Troy is the kindest most amazing human being. I've had may hair done by Troy since 2000, when we toured together with the Dixie Chicks. Besides being hysterically funny and kind, he is just the definition of competence. I let him do whatever he wants: cut, Brazilian, highlights, whatever... as it always ends up perfect. Every damn time, I walk in I feel loved and appreciated at Chroma. The team at this salon is top notch sans attitude. Troy works on television and film sets - The gentleman knows about hair. Mine is a mop of coarse, greying hair that needs to look good for auditions and performances and Troy keeps it hydrated, shiny, and beautifully warm-colored - without breaking the bank. Troy's own line of products are stellar. My husband's hair is thin and fine - which is wildly different texture from my own - Troy has the right products for each of us and we use them on a daily basis. Just bought one of his styling products as a birthday gift for a friend. The salon itself is extremely inviting with comfortable seating, tasteful music, and warm fellow patrons. Like attracts like. I live nearby so walking over is easy. For those who need to factor in the parking situation, I highly encourage you to search the side streets of Sweetzer and Harper just North of Norton, one block up from Santa Monica Blvd. to find spots before 7pm at night. read more
