This place was such a lovely experience!! My fiancée had a Tom Collins and I had a cosmo. They were delectable! So perfect. The tiny fluffy scones and focaccia breads they complimentary served with whipped butter were sublime. It was like biting into a thyme rosemary cloud. The fiancée ordered the heavenly thighs, which were just that. And the Gouda Mac and cheese that came with them was so creamy and garlic induced; it made my mouth swoon. I received the Carolina burger (with Muenster cheese), which was a nice combination twist with the pulled pork and pineapple slaw on top. It all came together nicely. We had a wonderful dinner here during Syracuse graduation weekend; just sorry that we won't be back in this neck of the woods anytime soon. The restaurant is attractive and spacious, service was excellent and food was great. My son had a prime rib special, which was enormous and well prepared. I had salmon, also good and my mom had a tasty skirt steak. All portions were very generous. Cider doughnuts for dessert. Reservations are a must, especially on special occasions or weekends. We went for a visit to The Cider Mill. It was a about a 45 minute drive from where we live, but was well worth it. The parking seems to be suitable for the size of the establishment. The staff are courteous and kind. The bar area feels a bit crowded but that's because it's not exactly the focus of the restaurant and it's placed in a "tucked away" location. It was perfectly acceptable for grabbing a drink before our dinner reservation. The arrangement of the dining is comfortable- it was witfully organized and I applaud them for this. The tables are of various heights and sizes around the dining room- and not in any particular pattern. It creates a non-uniform feel in a generally small dining area. It made me feel comfortable- I didn't feel "watched" by other guests. The only thing that could elevate the perceptual experience would be eliminating the the corner "vestibule" area, where service staff enter their orders, get drinks or tables, or box to-go food for their tables. It's not a big deal, but it stimulates a "Chinese buffet" feeling. On to the food: The appetizers we ordered were fantastic. Well plated and clean. The elements of the appetizers blend well- both by texture and palatability. My NY Strip was a beautiful cut and by surprise- was cooked perfectly. (Medium rare) The Demi sauce was rather unfortunate on my particular plate because I chose to substitute the mashed potatoes with a salad. Without the mashed potatoes to compliment the distinct bold flavors of the Strip, Demi can easily drown the essential flavors and textures that make such a nice cut of meat "stand out." Nonetheless, I enjoyed the meal and will certainly go back. As for the others at my table- I didn't pay much attention to their meals, but they did clear their plates! Brava! This is now my favorite restaurant to go to when visiting Syracuse from San Diego. They just reopened tonight and six of us began by sharing the oysters and mixed greens appetizers - delicious. Everyone also raved about their entrees (scallops, lobster mac and cheese, steak). With no room left for dessert, they surprised us with shots of their apple pie cider (with a kick). Great service, warm and inviting atmosphere and above all, scrumptious food. Can't wait to go back again. read more

Not that I visit Syracuse that often these days, but this is the best meal I've had in town hands down. A good sign it's going to be s good experience is when everyone at the table is struggling to make a decision because there's multiple things on the menu that look good. Our table ended up with a few soups, a crab cake and a special salad that was being offered...great size portions and everything was well executed. Mains included the pork shank, steak, chicken thighs and the salmon...each was a high portion and very well prepared. Service was attentive but not hovering and the dining room is well spaced. I've already recommended to my friends in town and will go every opportunity I get...they update the menu 4 times a year too! read more

Came here for dinner with my dad, we both LOVED it!! They have a great seasonal menu with lots of options. We had the arancini to start, which was fantastic. We both had the pork chops which were also great, and the creme brule for dessert. I also had a really great drink, a pomegranate Moscow mule. This is middle of the road restaurant wanting to be "fine dining." We had appetizers that were excellent and reasonably priced. Utica greens were exceptional....this was followed by a not so great main course...pork chop was like shoe leather, burger was under-cooked (server was not around to ask how it was)...chicken was cooked well...all entrees were over-priced...this establishment will not last long on this side of town with those prices...better off going to Daniella's steakhouse, Inn of the Seasons or Inn Between...all are comparably priced but with much better quality standards. Great service and nice atmosphere here. I have heard rave reviews of this place so we had to try. We started with a steak and cheese arancini. They were great, no complaints. For my entree I tried to think outside the box for myself so I ordered a pork shank with a bacon cheddar polenta. The pork was suppose to be cooked in root beer but I didn't really taste anything. The polenta also was flavorless like they didn't try. My wife went with a my strip and it was amazing. They have this blue cheese butter they put on it that was delicious. The side she had were a garlic mashed potato and also very good. This place is a bit overpriced. Food portions are large so that helps. Drinks are pretty high priced as well. We also tried the cider donuts. They were tasty but a bit sweet, I would recommend a coffee with these. We sat next to the bar. The bartender provided friendly service. Made online reservations and were promptly seated at our 6pm time. Our server Sean, came over within 3 mins and gave us our menus, and explained everything was cooked to order. My husband ordered the Cidermill manhattan and I had the Mango Mule. The Manhattan was strong but tasty my Mule was delish and refreshing. We were given 2 small honey mustard bisquit's and 2 squares of focaccia garlic bread with whipped butter. Both were tasty and fresh. For an appetizer we had arancini balls that had fennel and parm cheese. Lightly fried and so full of flavor, the star was the fresh red pepper sauce that accompanied them. 6 to an order so we had leftovers for home. I had the Taco's for dinner. 2 well dressed taco's with beans and rice, the meat was smoked shredded pork. I asked for no cilantro (hate the stuff ) and there wasn't one spec to be found. Very flavorful, however beans and rice could have used a bit of sauce. My husband had the Full rack of BBQ ribs, holy smokes, there was enough for 2 meals! Great sauce on the ribs and very tender, came with BBQ homemade beans (really tasty), corn bread, salt potatoes and roasted summer veggies. Only comment about the veggies, while the zucchini was a little over done, the cauliflower was perfect, however you cannot roast broccoli in the oven, it was charred. Will definitely go back and try some of the other menu choices. Bill was around $76 and both of us had enough left over for another meal. Service was spectacular! read more

Honestly this is the best meal I have had in the Syracuse area. The Cider Mill is such a relaxing and cozy place. We made reservations in advance. The friendly hosts sat us immediately. Our waitress was wonderful. I wish I could remember her name. We all started with the hot mulled Cider drink called The Cider Mull. Amazing!!! Then we had the house salad (could use more pickled apples)and Split Rock Greens. For dinner we had the Seared Ahi, Orecchiette and the special Prime Rib. All very delicious, generous size portions and all cooked to perfection. Yum! This is our new favorite place! We shall return! read more

Tonight I and 14 of my friends went for dinner at Cider Mill. This was the first visit for all of us and we found a gem From the moment I called in the reservation the staff, Olivia, was so helpful. When we arrived they seated us as soon as possible and got us all in one long table. It was great. The wait staff they excellent. Quickly took drink orders and brought out the appetizers. Delish! Dinner orders were in and by the time we finished the apps dinner that put hot and perfect. The food was so good. The chef/kitchen is doing some great work in there. The fall menu has some winners and we tried almost all of them tonight. Everyone at our table was raving. I know this is odd but do NOT pass up the deviled eggs on the app menu.... they were unusually good. This place gives you the option to buy a pitcher of beer for the kitchen at the end of the night. Absolutely amazing meal, everything we had was so good, we started with homemade bread & scones brought to us by our very knowledgeable and friendly server Paul, my girlfriend had a baby kale salad with candied walnuts, Parmesan crisps, pickled apple, citrus dressing, followed by the lamb meatballs, both were very good, I highly recommend the salad, I had deviled eggs for an appetizer, served with homemade hot sauce and topped with a sweet mustard seed, very flavorful and a great intro to the main course of sauerbraten, a weekly Wednesday special it does not disappoint, homemade egg noodles covered with the traditional meat and sauce with red cabbage, a perfect blend of flavors that makes you want more. We finished our meal with coffee from Recess Coffee a local roaster with the best coffee I've ever had. I highly recommend The Cider Mill. read more

Had dinner at The Cider Mill last night with some friends and it was a fantastic experience. We had superb service and stellar food. I had the lamb shank special. It was tender and the meat just fell off the bone. It was beautifully paired with mashed potatoes and root vegetables. We also split an order of the macaroni and cheese, which was rich and creamy. My wife had the Wasabi tuna, which was cooked rare to perfection and the Wasabi crust provided a nice bite. I would highly recommend The Cider Mill. read more

Dear Dan, It was a pleasure to enjoy dinner this chilly November evening at the Cider Mill. The Pork Chop was a generous portion and done as requested with a natural au jus, candied roasted yams, caramelized roasted Brussels sprouts and creamed onions. It was worth nibbling at the bone to get every last morsel of the chop. The veggies were flavorful and yet the creamed onions could have been served with a little more "cream sauce" (Maybe in a side dish?) Heavenly Thighs with greens and Gouda Mac & Cheese was all that was promised in a comfort dish for a brisk November evening in CNY. The Chicken was juicy and delicious. The greens were lively and a treasure to be found the the North, when thoughts are about to turn to holidays and vittles of the south. The Gouda Mac & Cheese is a rich delight, that could only be improved with the addition of "more". NY Strip, nicely done to order, but, yet the beef crust on the outside was a tad dry. The Marrow/Mushroom crust was perfect and the Maderia demi was perfection and glistened to the patron, "I will be as amazing to taste as I look" and it was. Some might find spaghetti squash to be a strange choice, but, it was done elegantly and ideally complemented the entree. The Yukon Gold mashed potatoes were melt in your mouth and I could only wish for more to appear on my plate. As noted on the top of the menu, saving room for dessert is highly recommended and from our table, a must to your guests. Our table had the Creme Brulee, Chocolate Pot du creme and the Molasses Cake with Pumpkin Creme. The Creme was perfect, as always, per the member of the party who is a repeat customer. The Chocolate Pot due creme was silky and rich, and the container that it was served in topped with a whipped creme, only added to the silky, luscious texture when gently slid into your mouth. The surprise of the evening was the Molasses Cake. This dessert makes me convinced that The Cider Mill is king of comfort food. A delightfully rich gingerbread cake with sponge and the lightest cream cheese/butter frosting on top. The Pumpkin creme that was plated with the cake was gentle and subtle but, added the fall touch that the rich dense cake needed. My only sadness with the cake was that it was scorched on one side and slightly dry, which was a surprise and the only reason I did not give a 5 star rating. I can only hope that the Cake remains on the menu and is available in December as a true Gingerbread cake. (Crystallized ginger and that same amazing frosting!) We were very fortunate to have John as our server, who was attentive, always ready to fill our water glasses and very knowledgeable about the menu. We were allowed to eat at a leisurely pace and found we were very comfortable with the pace of service, as when others might be "in a hurry", we enjoyed the very comfy seating, eclectic background music and atmosphere. Thank you, John. As a San Francisco Bay area resident, my expectation when re-visiting CNY was not of this amazing, comfort filled dining experience. When people say "fine dining" they seem to mean stuffy waitstaff and over priced tiny food. This is great food, good portions and kind waitstaff, making for a wonderful elegant and comfort food filled experience. I will be hoping to return soon. read more

Utica Greens and Arancini were spectacular. Lamb shank was not treated properly, seemed like it needed more attention considering the price. About half was left on the plate after separating the meat from the fat and gristle. Prime rib was very small considering the price and the fact that it's prime rib. Tried many of the desserts, the doughnut is the only one that stood out. If I ever go back I'm getting the appetizers and a doughnut, entrees are too much of a risk for the price. read more
