We came here for a work dinner and had a nice dining experience. The hostess was not as friendly as the rest of the employees we encountered but other than that service was good. We sat out on the patio which although against the street, they have created a cool, cozy atmosphere. Good vibes for a relaxing dinner. Our server was great and answered all our questions and checked on us often. They have a menu of their house cocktails and I think most of the group ordered off of it. I had the Thai Berry Soda with was perfectly refreshing. It's gin based with strawberry, basil, and sesame sochu soda. I had the Pork Tonkotsu Ranen which is absolutely delicious. The pork belly, bean sprouts mushrooms, and scallions all together with an amazing broth was so good. It's a good size portion and filling. Everyone in the group enjoyed what they ordered. I would return next time in town.
Had the pleasure of coming here last week! Amazing server Gary, was great!! He definitely knew his stuff! We started off with the mocktail sideline view! They were so good me and my best friend loved them. Then we had an appetizer of the buns. The bun in the moment was the softshell crab. It was 10 out of 10! We also had the eggplant soft bun and that was actually amazing especially as a vegan option! We both got Ramen. I got the chicken Ramen. It was so yummy. This place is happy hour is amazing!! the patio was so pretty, it was a great day to sit on the patio! Highly recommend if you've never tried this place before. The food sounds unique, but it is very good when you try it! Fresh too!
Service from Gary and Q behind the bar as great and they had some really good recommendations. Cocktails were all delicious. Food was tasty. If you're looking for traditional Thai food, this isn't the place for it. It's more of a fusion with a heavier concentration on Thai flavors. I loved what they did with the space, the vibe, and the dishes and cocktails. Solid spot!
My experience here was average, despite the hype about this being the best ramen in the city. I came with a group of friends and we all ordered different items. I ordered the shaking beef and a steamed bun. The steamed bun was just okay and overpriced for the size. The shaking beef was $23 and came with rice and only a few pieces of beef that were tough and hard to chew. Not sure if it was the cut of beef or it was overcooked. The flavor was decent, but not worth the price. Portions overall were small for how expensive the menu is. One of dining guests ordered spicy Kim chi ramen and sent it back due to very little broth and a grainy texture. The restaurant has a trendy atmosphere, good service, and convenient parking for a downtown location, but the food did not live up to expectations. I would not return.
I loved this place! The ambiance was nice and dark and fancy. The service was quick and our waiter was really nice giving us tons of recommendations. The food was just so good, so many unique flavors. The pasta and the bun were amazing! The crab Rangoons were not super avacado-y but we finished them still! Definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for some good food fusion !
I have been craving Asian food ever since I moved to Phoenix and haven't found a good spot yet, until now. Clever Koi was so delicious and had some nice vibes going on! My friend and I decided to check Clever Koi out on a Sunday evening (after our first choice was closed) and we didn't consider that we should make reservations. Luckily since it was a Sunday they were able to seat us but it was a pretty small table outside on their adorable patio. There were other more comfortable spots available but they told us there were reservations for those spots. The outside chairs were slightly uncomfortable I noticed one guy came in who was very large and ended up moving because the chair was too small. We really wanted their buns -- Sunday Bunday!! But unfortunately they have dairy in them and my friend has a dairy allergy. I will definitely come back to try the buns though (you normally get 3 for $18 but on Sunday Bunday you get 4 for $18). We wanted to go family style so we ordered the vegan potstickers, the dan dan noodles and a side of orange chicken (batter is dairy free). The dan dan noodles were so amazing, flavorful and creamy. The orange chicken was also delicious -- I normally don't eat chicken but I had to try it!! It didn't disappoint. The only disappointing item were the potstickers -- they just really didn't taste like anything. Overall though I thought the meal was very flavorful and the music in the restaurant was setting a great vibe. I will definitely be back to try more dishes.
I wanted to get Asian fusion for brunch and this place came up. My first impression is how cute the restaurant is. Sadly it looks pretty empty. There are plenty of parking on the side and in the back as well. We sat outside with the nice weather. The server was nice and attentive. He refilled water too, though not consistently. Krazy fries 4/5. I think the fries were basic with sauce and short ribs on top. They were filling though. Berry berry drink 5/5 was tasty, sour, alcoholic but also not strongly bitter like other alcohols I had. Kimchi carbonara 5/5. The udon was al dente. The kimchi doesn't overpower the sauce. In fact I would hate to taste pickled and sour udon and did not taste it here. Meat toppings were plenty. Pork ramen 5/5 came with two big pieces of cha siu. The broth was herby, sweet, and fresh. Short rib dumplings 4/5. The dumplings were delicious and juicy. But the onions made the broth too sour for me. Overall definitely recommend this place for the cute and great food. It should be more trendy and hyped.
Came to Phoenix to visit my dad and wanted to treat him for his bday so we came here to check out the food options. Service from Miguel was great from the start. The ambiance gives this Japanese street scene vibe. The drinks were good and the food was even better. It was a fusion spot so I was not sure what to order so I had Miguel basically tell us the guest favorites and they did not disappoint. We started w/ short rib dumplings and pork belly bao buns with a special soft shell bao bun. The dumplings were great and the pork belly buns were amazing. The soft shell crab didn't meet my standards. For the main courses we ordered drunken noodles, shaken beef, and this cold noodle dish. The drunken noodles were not really what I was expecting especially being half Thai but it was still a good dish. The shaken beef was really good. The cold noodle dish was the fave of the night. Place is good for groups and had some good music playing.
Came with some new friends after church, this place not only is consistently bringing high flavor they have daily happy hour till 6 and this dad of 3 needs a little help from time to time. We all placed orders and the food began to come out as we chatted and all got pumped as the smells are intoxicating! I was only able to snap a few photos as my kids were starving but we all really enjoyed our food. I got the HH special of ordering 3 Bao buns get the 4th free my wife got the XO noodles and my daughters food stole the show though with the kimchi carbonara! I only got a little bit at the end but WHOA! Every single flavor came together so perfectly, it was an absolutely perfect dish. So glad this place continues to blow everyone we come with including us away by the amazing service great options and amazing flavor experiences!
One of my favorite hangouts in Phoenix, Clever Koi consistently delivers excellent Asian-inspired food paired with genuinely great service. The menu is flexible and accommodating across dietary preferences, and their ramen is especially well-known for good reason. Cocktails are thoughtfully crafted and standout, with solid alcohol-free options as well. Right next door is their sister restaurant, Across the Pond, which focuses on high-end sushi. It offers a smaller, quieter, and more refined experience--and is, unsurprisingly, even pricier than Clever Koi. Both are worth a visit, depending on the mood you're in.

Recommend Clever Koi for a cute date night or a small group dinner. The indoor area is cozy cute with warm lighting. The Asian Fusion menu is interesting, but approachable. The cocktails were our favorite part of the meal, so when you visit you have to order your favorite. Everyone was pleased with their meal, and satisfied with the large portions. Next time I'm definitely ordering the Pork Belly Ramen, it looked incredible. read more

Everything about this place was tasty. The vibe and mood was calming yet edgy. The service was impressive with how attentive the servers were. They offer mocktails of their cocktails which was great for someone being pregnant! If I'm in the area again I'll come back for sure! read more

So, my friend booked a table here for us, selecting an Outdoor Table. The hostess checked us in and seats us at a corner indoor table. My friend inquired about the outdoor table, and she replied that such requests are met depending on availability. Then, she left. My friend was confused by this. After he showed me his Open Table reservation email showing he booked an outdoor table, we decided to check with the hostess again. She apologized and said none were currently available. A manager stepped in and offered us a table with high chairs that faces inward toward the dining room. Um, I want to see my friend's face and not be watching the table inside and in front of us eat. We declined that table, and it took a few minutes before the hostess mentioned that there are tables on the outdoor patio that were paying their check and if we wanted to wait a few minutes. That was fine with us. The Menu. It has a Noodle section and the Main Entree section. However, 3 of the 5 entree offerings in the Main Entree section were noodles. Who the heck designed this menu? The food was mediocre at best to me. 3 of the dishes we ordered were either over-sauced or had too much Kim Chi. Kim Chi is a big garnish for this place. The Tuna Chips I ordered had dried-out raw tuna cubes in it, and you can taste how not fresh the tuna cubes were. The shrimp chips broke easily when you tried to scoop up the tuna with them to have a perfect bite. The whole dish was just a mess. I also ordered their Kung Pao Vegetables appetizer. The dish was vegetables buried in a dark sauce. Too much glaze for me. Just because you use dried red chilis in a dish doesn't make it Kung Pao. The rice served with it was somehow cooked unevenly as the first 2 bites I had were hard and dry. Japanese Sandos made with American white bread and mayo are a huge miss for me. It was unremarkable. I might as well get a fried chicken sandwich from a fast-food joint. My friend liked the food. I didn't. I found the dishes to be too cliche and uninspiring. Not sure why so many like this place. It's mediocre at best. And whoever came up with the name, The Clever Koi... (rolling my eyes big time). read more

I love Clever Koi! We came on a Tuesday evening and took advantage of their 2 for Tuesday which included 4 cocktails and two noodle or rice dishes for $60. I had the XO Noodles but also ate some of the blackened catfish. The catfish is delicious yet quite spicy. I loved the taste of the XO noodles!! The staff was incredibly good. as while we were sitting on their patio, a storm decided to let go of rain. We were promptly moved to a more sheltered table the moment it became available and continued to enjoy our time on the patio! The waitstaff really were so gracious and attentive 5+ stars for their service! The food and the service will definitely bring me back here for another meal in the future! read more
We had a last minute plan to do dinner and when I made the reservation, the arrival process and getting seated was seamless We were seated outside (myself and 3 other friends, a couple of which have been here before) The atmosphere was fun and live, service was great and the food and drinks were outstanding. I personally ordered the shaking beef and a mai tai. And for the table we ordered calamari fries. The calamari fries was nothing special in my opinion, tasted like fish sticks. The shaking beef was great, but I wish it was less spicy to experience the other flavors. The mai tai was delicious. I will definitely be back, as my friends ordered the pad Thai and ramen noodles and they all were very complementary of them. I want to try them! read more

I have been to this restaurant several times now and have enjoyed myself each time! The atmosphere inside is cozy and looks beautiful at night. The patio is also a nice place to sit if it's not too hot out and is surrounded by greenery. It is often incredibly busy here, so I would recommend making a reservation. We ordered a few appetizers. The fried mushrooms are excellent and are paired with a sauce that has a kick to it. The soft shell crab buns were also very tasty, though I prefer the pork belly buns. I also ordered the lemon pepper chicken ramen, which was warm and flavorful. You will likely have leftovers if you order the ramen! Lastly, my favorite was the dessert! Wow, it was so tasty. It was some type of banana fritter sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar and paired with a caramel sauce. Definitely ask for this if you have room for dessert!! Overall, love this restaurant and will be back very soon. read more

Amazing food! Just wow!!! We came in for dinner and tried several food from the menu. We tried all the 4 steam buns which was so delicious. Spicy kimchi cauliflower, pork belly, soft shell crab and Korean hot chicken steam buns were all soooo good! We also tried calamari fries which was amazing! It's a smaller portion for the calamari fries appetizer though but it's okay, we still enjoyed it. We tried 2 pork ramen and both were delicious! Beer was good. I really LOVE their side pickles, it has this slightly sour tangy sweet taste and I enjoyed it! Price is decent and worth it. Keith was our server as well as 2 other guys and they're all so kind, attentive and very nice. Keith was especially nice! Highly recommend this place! I do recommend getting a reservation since it does get easily booked. We came in as walk in since it was fully booked for reservations so we were offered to other seats in the bar and high top but we were also offered an outdoor seating which was also nice! Pros: Food is 10/10 and absolutely delicious! Service is great and attentive! Cons: Can be fully booked so reservation is highly recommended. You either wait for a long time for a seat to open up or sit in the high top/bar. read more

I truly believe we just had a bad experience and this place is prob great but from our experience wasn't to good. We went on a Saturday night place was pretty full but no line or anything. Are food came out in good timing but legit everything we ordered was cold. The boa buns here were also extremely disappointing idk if it's just because it was cold but the only one we liked was the cauliflower bun. Prices are fair as well as portion sizes. Aesthetically the place is a vibe I really liked it but service was super un personable prob talked to are waiter three times total. read more
We looked for a place to have dinner near hubby's friend's place and this place popped up. He ordered a Hitachino white Ale to start with and I got a complimentary steamed bun for checking in. I chose the softshell crab one! I liked the two spicy sauces they offered on the table- I think that they're both mad in house. We also ordered the pig face dumplings and a couple of ramen bowls. So far the appetizers were pretty good. I wanted try the lemon pepper chicken ramen since it sounded interesting. It was a nice fusion of this classic dish. My hubby opted for the birria ramen, which was one of their specials that night. His dish came with a couple of bao buns and shredded meat on the side. It was actually very tasty and I'm glad I got to try this version as well. It's been over a year since we dined here and to this day, he's still raving about how good the ramen was. read more
Had high hopes as you could smell the bonita and dashi as you walk in, however, the flavors are very generic. Had all 4 types of steamed Buns. You are definitely better off going to an authentic Asian spot for these... Chicken ramen is cooked nicely but the broth is lacking anything to want to go back for. Xo noodles do have a nice touch of heat to them but once again, you're better off going somewhere else for the real deal. Seems like you could make it at home. I have been CRAVING ramen for a long time, and my travel companion came through when he found The Clever Koi! The walk up from the restaurant (which is from the rear) looks attractive. There's outdoor seating as well, and there's shade. Inside is just a nice, we sat at the bar, which I enjoyed because it gave us a chance to have conversations with staff and watch them cook on the indoor fire grill. Staff were great! So pleasant and conscious of customer needs. Spencer was our waiter, he was so nice, and we really appreciated his conversation : ) What we ordered: Each of us had the vegan ramen. . .it's damn good...PERIOD! And there's a green sauce that I added for a little extra flavor/spice (can't remember the name of it). The grilled bak choy topped it perfectly, and the broth has a full taste. Nice portion size, we had to take the rest home. And we shared the Thai salad. Veggies still had a nice crunch, and liked those crispy wonton that topped the salad. We had to hold ourselves back not too eat too much of it so we could eat our ramen. This easily fed the 2 of us. Drinks: Lemongrass sizzle- I did this as a mock tail, and could have drank a gallon of it! Very refreshing. My companion had it with alcohol and said it was just as refreshing! Long Island Ice Tea- its a beautiful drink, and tasty I recommend both of these drinks *be sure to check in for your complimentary bun! *bathrooms are unisex and clean! read more

We made a reservation online. Very easy to do, and the place was busy. I def recommend it. We didn't have to wait to be seated. Decor was cute. They had Koi fish & a lucky cat that I would totally have as decor in my house bc I like it. The bar staff seemed nice. We were not seated at the bar but the interactions seemed fine. They had matching aprons that I liked. The kitchen is open. Very cool. If I sat at the bar I'd probably watch all the cooking going on. Service was friendly. The food: Appetizers: Calamari fries-cooked well, nice crunch, sauce was already drizzled on so no dipping was needed. But they did bring 2 hot sauces to the table and you didn't need to ask for it. I loved the green one the most. I used it with the calamari and it made it very good. The only thing I would have done differently would be a sprinkle of salt. The steamed buns: We had 3, the Korean spicy chicken, pork belly and soft shell crab. Each had their merit but the star of the trio was definitely the Korean spicy chicken. And this is coming from someone *obsessed* with pork belly. The Korean spicy chicken comes with a lot of sauce, so it got my hands a little messy but no complaints. You got the spice from the sauce, a good crunch from the chicken as well as the pickles, and you got a nice vinegary flavor to bite through the richness of the spice. 10/10 I'd eat it again. The pork belly was cooked well, paired nicely with the hoisin. I'd definitely eat this again but if I was getting 3 buns, 2 would be the chicken 1 would be the pork belly. Kiddo had the karaage chicken and demolished it. I feel like that says it all. The honey had pad Thai and added shrimp. He ate all of it and was actually full. So, portion size is good. I had a bite. I'd totally eat a whole bowl of it too. Flavors were right, noodles were a good consistency and it wasn't overly "wet" or "too dry". Pork ramen was mine. I loved it. The broth had a lot of depth. The soft egg was so so good. It was a little cold in the restaurant so I was glad I ordered a hot soup. The noodles were delicious and all of the toppings really worked well together. I also dipped the mushrooms and pork belly in the green sauce. Yum. When I go back it'll be a struggle not to order this again bc it was a huge bowl, and it was so good. It even tastes good the next day as leftovers. Overall, it was lovely, I want to go back to try the drinks, as the drink menu looked pretty good, but I know I will be back to eat more food. If they ever branch into some desserts, I bet those would be epic. read more
New to town and was eager to explore the ramen. Vibes- excellent. Very trendy inside with decent amount of seating. Food- husband and I split pork ramen (I added spice), the soft shell crab bun, and the chilled sesame noodles. The pork ramen was the winner. Delicious broth, perfectly cooked egg, and the pork belly was to die for. It was perfectly crispy and will go back just to have more of their dishes with it. The crab bun was not for us but that could just be a preference thing. The chilled sesame noodles were very fresh overall! It was a nice contrast to the ramen. It came with plenty of bright vegetables and is an excellent lighter option. Doesn't stand out compared to the ramen but would be reliable. Service was good. No praises but no complaints either. Eager to try the cocktails there as well. read more

We love this place soo much. You have to try the ramen. It's sooo good. The drinks are out of this world and the wings are crazy good. We love this place!! It's got amazing food amazing service and amazing atmosphere. Try everything because you will not be disappointed by anything. I love the attention you get from everyone plus the perfect flavors in every bite. You have to try it I highly recommend it!!!! read more

The food was great!! Beautiful place! We had the pork ramen and the miso chicken ramen. Both were really fantastic! The best were the short rib dumplings. Wow! Those were truly amazing! I was really put off by the host. It was really bright outside and before my eyes could adjust, the host got up in front of me as soon as I was in the door. I managed to say, "Hi, two please". In which he responded in a snarky tone, "I'm doing well, thank you for asking". The food was great, but I don't need attitude from a guy dressed like Super Mario. I hope management knows what this guy is doing front of house. read more

Everything about this place was amazing!! It was our first time coming here and we will definitely be back! Our server Marilyn was phenomenal she was super patient with us and gave really good food/drink recommendations, perfect date night ambiance, and the food and drinks were so so good!! We found this place on Yelp due to early 5:30 dining, high ratings, lots of reviews, and Asian fusion food. When we arrived, we found the place to be already packed and we were seated outside in the walkway which was serene and peaceful. Mix drinks for $7 during happy hour Penicillin: Scotch, lemon, runny hunny, ginger syrup - It was really enjoyable, sweet and sour and spicy with just the right amount of kick Pork Ramen $15 during happy hour soup - it was very flavorful, I was surprised and impressed. noodle - it was bouncy and a bit chewy, very acceptable. pork - soft and tender with seasoning on the outside. egg - not the traditional Japanese ramen egg, but it was really good, runny whites and soft yoke. kimchi - there was quite a bit of it, not bad. oyster mushroom was raw - it would have been so much better if it was cooked, too bad. read more
My buddy and I ordered take out with the online option. The website is easy to follow and complete an order. It was a Friday night but the wait time wasn't unreasonable at all. The items we ordered were what was in the bag, that's always a relief. The to go containers are also durable and keep the food at the appropriate temp. We ordered the Thai Peanut Salad, Trio of Steamed Buns, Fried Rice with Crispy Chicken and to polish off the meal the Banana Fritters. The entire flow was perfect and the food tasted great! Do you ever just crave a really good bowl of Ramen? On the days when I need some good comfort food, Clever Koi will get that call. What I love is the ingredients are always fresh. Their food is so vibrant even with the to-go orders. I still prefer to do take out, the place is still pretty busy even in the pandemic. I usually order the Pork Ramen and their pork bun. Tip, with the pork bun, ask for lighter sauce. They can go heavy so if you're not ready for it is prepared for it. read more
HIT OR MISS After my last 4 star review, I came back again. I was really excited to try the Long Thailand Iced Tea, but they were all out of one of the ingredients! I got a Piña Colada instead. We ordered Calamari Fries, which I expected to be French fries with calamari, but it turns out it is only calamari shaped like fries. The calamari wasn't very good. My date who frequents this establishment often said the calamari is usually better, and we didn't finish the plate. I got the chicken katsu sandwich again and it just didn't taste as good as it did the last time I came. I didn't finish this either. I really wanted to like this place! I will say the drinks are good and I still want to come try the Long Thailand Iced Tea. Perhaps just come for the bar and maybe share an appetizer (but not the calamari) read more

Their Ramen put me in heaven or at least floating amongst the stars! Ramen is one of my Asian food faves! I remember when I first met my husband and told him of my love for Ramen, he was thinking Cup O Noodles, and then I turned him on to the world of Ramen! We have had some great ones from Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, LA and Las Vegas restaurants and I've even have some great Ramen in Japan a long time ago, but the Clever Koi Spicy Kimchi Ramen is truly one of the best we have ever had! All of the ingredients were so harmonious especially with the five spice flavor shining through! The confit kimchi chicken thigh was so tender and the soft egg was perfect! The spiciness was spot on, adding flavor but not overwhelming the dish. The Korean Hot Chicken Steamed Bun was tasty and I'm looking forward to trying the pork belly and soft shell crab bun. Don't forget your free steamed bun with Yelp check-in! Service was great and the patio atmosphere was amazing! Definitely five stars all around!We can't wait to go back, hopefully on a Monday or Tuesday for their "It Takes Two" special where you get any two rice or noodles and four classic cocktails for $60! Came here for a late lunch on a Saturday. Clever Koi been our fav spot since it first opened and it never disappoints! My son tried their katsu sandwich with fries, and he was like this is sooooo good! My husband had the chow mein with beef bulgogi, and I had the Szechuan catfish. They were so flavorful and satisfying. Cocktails were amazing as usual - we had the Pimm's cup and a mojito. So pleased with the food quality and great service - we will be back again soon. read more

You bet! We have gluten free. Rice noodles to sub in for numerous dishes. As well as, vegan noodles if you chose to go that route. Come on by and we can lead you through a gluten free amazing meal!

Based on my personal experience, I would say it was a play on traditional dishes, but definitely not 100% authentic.
Are Friday's full?
Yes! It thins out fairly quick, but during dinner hours on Friday, I would make a reservation.
