This is a really nice place. Kind of a hidden gem. The interior is cozy and artsy. I would definitely recommend getting in the waitlist before arriving to avoid waiting. The food is amazing. We had huevous rancheros and french toast and both of the dishes were great. The freshly squeezed orange juice is actually freshly squeezed and with pulp. Was looking for a brunch place with friends in Jersey city and came across this place as a suggestion from Yelp. Ordered the quinoa wrap and iced coffee. Pretty awesome. This place has been on my list for quite some time now. If you're in Hoboken, and anywhere near the elevator, just take that up to union city/the heights and walk a few blocks (I think it was 3), and you're there. The move is to go here while the weather is warmer so you can sit out back where the outdoor seating is covered by rows of colorful umbrellas! Helps to keep you cool/in the shade even during a really hot day in the middle of July! We went there for brunch and sat outside-this place will ask when you make a reservation (and you'll only do that for parties of 6 or more), how many of the people in the reservation are adults vs kids and whether you need a high chair (my husband and I came with a couple of our best friends and their 2 kids-we didn't in this case). Their menu, at least for brunch, is geared toward vegetarians and vegans (so no meet here), but the food was absolutely amazing. They have a kids menu too. I had the huevos rancheros and it was great. My husband had the avocado toast and loved it, and their juice (we had orange) was fresh squeezed! It should also be noted that it's a BYOB-is but somewhere in Hoboken or JC before coming up here-the closest liquor store has a limited selection. Make the trip-you'll be glad you did! read more

Hello to this cutest surprise in my neighborhood. I absolutely love what they have done with the place. I perfect spot to enjoy brunch or even get some work done(free wifi !) while sipping their delish lattes. I ordered a blueberry muffin and cannot get over how melt-in-the-mouth soft it was. Considering the location and inconspicuous site, this place is most definitely a surprising addition to the neighborhood. With all indoor seating, the place has a rustic charm and relaxing vibe. Coming early in the morning, my acquaintance and I had the brioche french toast and classic avocado toast. Considering the $12 price tag, the food was rather underwhelming. The avocado toast was more salty then properly spiced, and lacked creativity. The brioche french toast was well seasoned, but the garnish and fruit did not come combine well together. Altogether, the food was light, but not a go to. We also ordered the matcha lemonade, which was very refreshing, and the freshness could be tasted immediately. We did not feel welcome. We're here visiting and walked to get breakfast. The outdoor seating was nice but the music was loud. It felt as if we were singled-out as the un-welcomed tourists. My fiancé and I adore The Cliff!! We come here quite often as our weekend brunch spot. I love that they have vegetarian and vegan options. The juices are fresh and the staff has no problem topping off your coffee. I have tried numerous options from the menu such as The Icelandic Yogurt, Huevos Rancheros, Tofu scramble, Brioche French toast, the Crispy Vegan tacos, build an egg(tofu) and cheese biscuit, the avocado toast, and the toast and jam (a huge starter favorite)... I guess you can say I've basically tried it all!! Everything is delicious as ever and I never leave feeling anything but satisfied and full. My fiancé is partial to the Brioche French toast aka he orders it every time we're there!! I have to admit that I was not super familiar with the Heights section of Jersey City, but was certainly aware that the neighborhood was rapidly thriving with new and innovative small businesses. When my friend, who lives in the area, was trying to decide what lunch space he should introduce me to, I specified what I was looking for something healthy. He immediately suggested The Cliff, a place I was unfamiliar with. We found a street parking spot and walked around the corner to this adorable café. Inside were a handful of tables, including one with a cushioned bench in each of their two front windows. There were also a few counter seats that looked into the kitchen, as well as a rear garden, for which it was sadly too cold to enjoy. My friend asked if they would make him a red-eye, which sounded so uplifting that I decided to join him on his caffeine fix. The brew was rich, creamy, and chocolatey. For food, I ordered the "Bowl Of...", a menu item that my friend had not seen, so he was very confused by my request and asked me to confirm what I actually wanted in that bowl. The server and I giggled, clarifying that that was actually the name of a quinoa lunch bowl. The grain was served cold, along with some mixed greens, chunks of fresh feta, large cucumber and avocado slices, as well as Kalamata olives. There were also scoops of hummus and harissa paste considerately heaped on the side of the plate. Lastly, a thin yogurt sauce had been drizzled over the top of dish, keeping it bright and textured, without the ingredients drowning in some kind of dressing. It was obvious to me that The Cliff was dedicated to using fresh, good-for-you ingredients. When they served food that enjoyable in such a cozy, homey atmosphere, it was a win all around. The Cliff is a great find in the heights. We went there for a late "brunch" and enjoyed everything. The watermelon juice was delicious. I ordered the Cod Burger but did not know what to expect, it was very flavorful and different than anything I have had in a while. The Nuevo Huevos Rancheros came separated and you made your own egg taco, also very enjoyable. The Cod Burger came with fries, which we requested their truffle ones, they were so good we ordered a side to go. It was also very cool that this place is dog friendly, this will be a new staple for us on the weekends. read more

I ordered the breakfast eggs and toast- it came very lean, two eggs exactly like you scramble them at home, and two pieces of dry bread, no butter or jam even, and for that you pay 9$. My partner had pear and goat cheese salad; it came as bunch of dry leaves with two slices of pear a bit of cheese and some dressing. I am not surprised, the restaurant has no proper kitchen. The only waiter in the crowded restaurant got angry at every request made. The tables are crowded and stained. So in short, I would not come back. read more

I absolutely LOVE this quaint little vegetarian cafe/restaurant owned by the sweetest family! Almost every time I have people come and visit me in the Heights during the day, I end up taking them here for a bite to eat. I have never heard a single complaint from any of them :) I have always felt very welcome and the staff is very flexible, especially if you have a young kid. It is great for families and they even have toys in baskets under the book case. The food is amazing - I always recommend the Mexi Bowl and Watermelon Mint Juice. We went to the Cliff café this past week-end. I was excited to try it out since it was close to my partner's house and it has great reviews. I love to try cafes. Anyway the place itself is very laid-back & bohemian style which I love. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. The food, I have to say is a big "MEH" I had matcha lemonade, it was so good and refreshing. My partner had watermelon mint juice which was so good as well. We ordered watermelon salad, it wasn't bad but it wasn't the best either. The avocado toast was bread-y and it lacked ingredients. The bread was way too hard and thick. It was suppose to have mushroom as the "bacon" you can barely see any mushrooms and it had more greens than anything else. I ordered scrambled eggs for my two year old, it was bland and tasteless. I had to add some salt to make it edible. Overall, the place is real cute, the food was a little below average, the prices were reasonable. read more

A welcome addition to JC Heights. Came here with some other fab Yelpers and we had a great time. It's a beautiful space. Not huge, but tons of light and really interesting details everywhere. The brunch menu has a lot of delish options. Ya'll know i'm a carnivore at heart but I honestly didn't miss the meat in this meal. The menu is vegetarian and vegan but there's something for everyone. I had the brioche french toast - delicious! The mascarpone was perfect, the berries were fresh, and it was a satisfying portion. I had a fresh lemonade that was so refreshing and delicious. All of the drinks were delish but if your brunch is not complete without bubbly, they do offer a variety of fresh-squeezed juices and you can BYOB. Our waitress was so lovely, and Gary, the owner, is fantastic. My friend Joe and I are hobbyist photographers and we wanted to take pics of the adorable patio area. We didn't realize that they had cleared the placesettings because of the rain. Without asking, the staff re-set the tables. They take pride in their restaurant and want to represent it at it's best. That was an above and beyond moment, something that shows us they're attentive to their customers. I'm so glad to be back in the neighborhood. Cute place with decent menu. However, please be careful when it comes time to pay your bill. We we were a small group and were given a receipt with the total that we decided to split equally. The server took our credit cards AND the receipt from the table and swiped our cards on an ipad. Then she gave us the ipad to sign and select a tip amount, which seems like pretty standard practice until we later realized that the total on the receipt already included gratuity. But because she picked up the receipt from the table and the ipad still gave a tipping option before signing, it drew away attention from the fact that we were already charged gratuity and actually ended up tipping twice. Not a big deal, but i did end up tipping over $12 in total when that could've been the cost of a plate in itself. Also, the server did mess up our orders multiple times. For example, we asked to substitute our bread which we were told was fine but on the bill we were charged an extra $4 each as side orders just for pieces of bread and butter. We were asked if we liked imitation bacon sprinkled on our eggs which we were later charged an extra $3 each. We were told the fruit purée drink contained sprinkling water but it didn't it was just blended fruit. One of us ordered tea which we never received. read more

When restaurants open that tout themselves as vegetarian, vegan, or pescatarian, I usually do an eye roll and keep it moving, perhaps that makes me a self-hating pescatarian. My reaction may be based on a life time of going to restaurants and not being able to order anything at all or maybe just a few sides and that has led me to appreciate menus with something on it for everyone. The Cliff is mostly a vegetarian café and currently one fish dish on the brunch menu, so if you can't make it through breakfast or lunch without bacon, this place isn't going to be your first choice, but if you are cajoled into going anyway I'm guessing you are going to like it. On my first visit I enjoyed my food, the service, and the overall vibe. Aside from great egg dishes, yogurt/granola/acai bowls, and french toast, The Cliff has a large drink menu consisting of juices and smoothies; I really enjoyed my watermelon juice! An added bonus is you can bring your own champagne and order pitchers of OJ, mango puree, or strawberry puree to mix with. Also the back patio looks great, I can't wait to eat out there. read more

The Cliff has a great atmosphere and a lovely back patio. The people running it seem kind and I can only wish them the best, however I hope they really improve their service and pricing. We went on Mother's day and they had a $28 pp prix fixe menu. That was way too much for the food served (fresh huevos rancheros for me; avocado toast with a poached egg for my wife) and the fact that it took them 15 mins to both start serving us and to get us dessert after our mains (a cupcake with sugary frosting) Hopefully on a different day the price will really be closer to the value of the meal and there will be a lot less waiting Hope you guys at the Cliff can figure it out! read more
