I went in early and I got a ton of chips and salsa. I ordered from the happy hour-reasonably priced beers and cocktails. I liked the flautas which were obviously made from scratch but the salsa wasn't very spicy. They have a good happy hour menu and I did see someone eating shrimp cocktail. I was there early so I didn't see many varieties of food so I'll try more next time. read more

When my friend Jake said it was a mexican restaurant, this is definitely not what I was expecting. This restaurant went beyond my expectations. Returning customer and have always loved the food at this restaurant. However, I regret to say that it will be my last. The server worked at the front bar on Monday night around 7:30 was extremely unprofessional and made us feel completely unwelcome. From the moment we arrived, it was clear we were not going to receive the same level of service as others. The server tossed the menu in front of us without even saying hello and continued to provide noticeably better service to other customers. This kind of treatment is unacceptable, and it has overshadowed the quality of the food that I have enjoyed for so long. I hope management addresses this issue to prevent other loyal customers from having a similarly disappointing experience. read more

A much anticipated visit to this restaurant after great reviews turned out to be so disappointing. Really uncomfortable chairs, no atmosphere whatsoever and the food was overpriced, small servings and I'd give it a "2" for flavor. Chips were stale, sent back and were said to have been freshly made, they were far from fresh. My husband's chicken enchiladas had a bone in it and tasted bland. My poke tacos were bland and small and probably my first time ever leaving a mexican restaurant hungry. Wonderful surprise on To Blvd...reminiscent of a small beachside cafe in Cancun. We loved the shrimp ceviche with slices of avocado, lime juice, cucumber bits and fresh chips. After reading the other reviews I wonder if I experienced the Twilight Zone. Nice and friendly staff with cute surroundings. Great margaritas, and we were excited for $3 Taco Tuesday. This is where things get weird. We thought the tacos were terrible. Flavorless and dry tiny tacos on a plate ranging from $3 to $4 each. The only taco that had any moisture or flavor was the deep fried 'Gringo". The chicken taco was just like gnawing on dried overcooked meat. The fish taco was not much better. Oddly, our tacos looked nothing like the tacos in the photos, so maybe Taco Tuesday isn't the day to go after all. Our tacos didn't have toppings, or anything else put on them. Just a tiny blob of dry meat with a itty bitty side of salsa. We probably won't be back. $70 for three peeps to leave completely unsatisfied, plus there are way better tacos in town. 4 stars for service, margarita, ambiance 3 stars for the Gringo taco 1 star for the bland/dry/ chicken & fish tacos. read more

I enjoy coming here, and do so regularly. Food is about a 6/10. Tacos are a good value, but a little bland and could use more seasoning. The bartender who takes your order will often forget something because they don't write anything down. By the time you and whoever you're sitting with finish ordering and they go to enter it, you might have to repeat your order to them. Just write it down instead...problem solved. Bartenders are also usually a bit oblivious to customer needs. Multiple times I would have gotten a second round of drinks, but the bartender never asked us. Just a little more attention to detail and upselling would go a long way. We also should not have to ask for water. Everyone wants it, just bring it and keep it filled. I do wish they had a selection of beers on draft instead of just bottles and cans. Can I tell the difference? No, but it's the concept. None of this would keep me from coming back. This is a very worthwhile stop and I enjoy supporting a local business like this! read more

Kick ass ambience with a bitchin' soundtrack on the background. The owner and the staff are also wonderful. Now about the food... the empanadas are wonderful, the fresh hamachi is to die for! We only did the Gringo Tacos this time and they were as good as the recommendations said they would be. The Aqua Fresca Watermellon margaritas made from scratch were simply fantastic. Stopped by last night around 6:30 and sat at the bar. The ambiance is.........interesting. Hard to pull off in such a dated old building. Meh, whatever. First of all, this does not seem to be a "traditional" smash burger like, For The Win, Heavy Handed, Gold Burger, Burger She Wrote, The Window, or any other of the top traditional Smash burgers in LA. It does not seem to be thinly smashed with the crisped thin edges with just the traditional cheese and onions. I was hoping that was what I was going to get, as I was craving for a smash burger, but did not feel like driving to LA. What I did get was hands down THE BEST BURGER IN THOUSAND OAKS. I have lived here for 30 years and have been to all of the so called "great" T.O Burger joints. And let me tell you, there is a reason I always drive to LA to get a good burger. Well, there is no need anymore. I would easily rate this among the top burger joints in LA. It is for sure the best burger in Ventura County. The patty was perfectly cooked, and the cheese was nicely melted. The fries were AMAZING as well. The bar area is completely separate from the restaurant. The restaurant received A's across the board! Food, service, and ambiance are spot on! Unfortunately, I stopped in the bar first. If it wasn't for one good bartender, I would never have even been acknowledged. Clicky clicky clicky!!! The other bartenders were basically hanging out with their buds. Just a bunch of over the hill party chicks and there poor hubbies talking pridefully about their slutty teenage daughters. Poor kids never had a chance. Anyway, this is a review after one visit. I always want to love new places but it was a bit disappointing. Overall the space is nice and inviting but the margarita was not great and I hate that you cannot order a la cart tacos to go. The flavor of the chicken tacos were average and there are no pork or any authentic choices. Price them any way you want but let us mix and match.
