New place so I understand but seems like just another restaurant trying to be in the middle of casual and upscale dining with just ok food. Maybe need to workout some things that will take time but was also told the menu was changing the following week when we ordered plus three main items were sold out. I don't think we will be back since I would rather dine somewhere else while in downtown Plainfield. Aesthetically very similar to NWB which is overall much better imo. The Clifton had a nice espresso martini and our server was great, however, there was a young staff member (don't think he was a server) goofing around with his visiting friends directly next to our table and because the seating is so tight it was annoying since we could hear their entire immature conversation and hardly focus on ours until they finished eating and left. I had a steak sandwich that seemed more like hamburger meat and the marinara sauce was heavy. The dish was bland. read more

This is my second time in 2 weeks going to The Clifton. The food is very good. I got the chicken parm and my fiancé had the al pastor tacos. As good as the food is, the service is even better!!! We had Antonio for our server (I believe he's the bartender there but was serving us because we had a table close to the bar). Antonio was outstanding. Very knowledgeable, polite, and just fun to talk to and he delivers top notch service! The Clifton is a great addition to downtown Plainfield. read more

Extremely disappointed in the pizza. I really wanted to like this place, but just too much to overcome. I ordered two different pizzas. The crust was decent, however the pizza flavor wasn't good. The sauce on Margherita pizza was regular pizza sauce and not crushed tomatoes and olive oil as per the traditional recipe, and it was bitter. The cheese was overcooked and had the same texture as plastic. No flavor. The drinks are ok, you just don't get very much for the price. The service was very slow. The waiter was nice enough but it took forever to get our food and drinks. He also didn't clear our table at all. The prices were high for what you get. I know prices are high everywhere, but there was a lack of quality of food for the price. Sticking to Freedom Brothers for now and waiting when/if Giambotta opens back up. The Clifton could use a lesson or two (from Giambotta) on how to make a margherita pizza, pizza in general. They need to focus on the food and the people will come. read more

Went for date night after seeing pictures and menu for the place. It was wonderfully updated and the ambiance is great but it's very much a nice restaurant and they threw a sports bar in it. TVs and confusing music that doesn't match the environment at all. For the design and prices I was expecting less casual dining atmosphere. They have some kinks to workout in the kitchen and service but for the most part the food all tasted good. read more

We visited on a busy Saturday. The hostess told us 90 minutes but it ended up being closer to 40 minutes and we had to down the cocktail we had just order down the street. Sat outside on the patio near the building with a dead cockroach at my feet. Ignored it -they're in every restaurant. But what did it for me was the mediocre and over priced steak. This was my first time at The Clifton in Downtown Plainfield and I was pleasantly surprised! The Clifton expressed a bright and welcoming energy both inside and outside. Although the prices are a little steep, the food definitely reflected the price. It was the freshest and best food I've had at a restaurant in Downtown Plainfield in a long time! I got the breaded steak sandwhich and truffle fries an espresso martini and the new blueberry cobbler cheesecake! Absolutely amazing food, I brought home no leftovers! The server was very nice and quick and made sure that we were taken care of the whole night! I will definitely be coming back soon! read more

Went for Sunday Brunch at Wine & Cheese which was amazing. After that we went over to The Clifton to check out the newest restaurant in downtown Plainfield. Sat at the bar which was relatively empty. Service was sub par. My drink was undrinkable. My friend's drink tasted like koolaide. When the bar tender/waiter finally came around, we had to leave but he still charged us for the drink that tasted like gasoline. Very disappointed. read more

We went after an amazing brunch at wine and cheese and ordered two cocktails. One was pretty good one was not drinkable (and did not drink it). By the time we told the bartender we had to go but he charged for both drinks anyway rather than taking the one off. read more

So excited to see a new restaurant in this space!! Interior was very well done! Service was a little slow, but we weren't in any hurry. My husband did get up to find our server at one point. Food was very good, definitely need to come back again because there's several other things I'd like to try!! My only negative was how ungodly cold it was inside, I put my seat heaters on in my car when I left, lol. But seriously, The Clifton is definitely worth a try! I wish them much success:)) read more

Really enjoyed our meal at the Clifton. We ordered the Giant Mozzarella Logs for an appetizer along with the Focaccia Bread which had lemon ricotta and marinated cherry tomatoes on top both were absolutely delicious! The cocktails were also very good! For our main courses we had the short rib, breaded steak and the Clifton classic burger. Each entree was amazing. The short rib was a generous portion and cooked to perfection! The Clifton classic burger was one of the best burgers I have ever had! Lastly the breaded steak sandwich did not disappoint! Love that the French fries are fresh- cut and they even have homemade BBQ potato chips. To wrap it up for dessert we had the fried donuts with bourbon caramel sauce which was outstanding. The service was excellent and we loved the decor! We actually considered going back for dinner the next night as it was that good! We will definitely be back soon and excited to have such a great restaurant close to home! read more

Went twice, had the "Deadly Garden," the first time and loved it. Friends had "Not So Vanilla" and enjoyed it the first round but by our second round of the same drink had completely changed colors. They were a newer place so we assumed they just ran out of something and decided not to say anything. Things happen, I definitely understand that, however customer should be informed for sure. The music was also playing at volume 100 the entire time...not great for talking over dinner. Server was nice though. Second time I came in, I ordered the Deadly Garden once again and this time around it was a completely different drink. Same ingredients listed on the menu, but it was bright pink rather than a dark purple, and ice was not strained all the way so it was almost a slushee texture. It tasted like a cranberry and gin. I was disappointed for sure. Our server was nice but definitely seemed like she was in a rush to leave, which again I can understand but the website says they are open until 11pm and it was only 8:45 at this point. The second time we came in, I will say, the music was much quieter and the ambiance was definitely more enjoyable, and the food was not bad either time. Overall, I will probably not be back, at least for a while. There are definitely more consistent options in downtown plainfield! read more
