I love store CBTL store #124. The workers are on point. They know how to make my drinks just the way I like it. The employees are so great, if you go there numerous times enough, they will hang out with you. It took me going there 50 times to finally build an acquaintanceship with all of them. We went out for tacos. Oh yeah. Also, the restroom is clean 99% of the time. This is the spot to go if your happening to drive by and nature calls. This store gets a 5/5 stars. HOOYAH. P.S. I used to go to this place all the time when I was an undergrad. It is a very good location - easy parking (although sometimes it can get crowded because of TJ and the restaurants in the same plaza), spacious, clean, and friendly baristas. There are lots of tables to study at, good for solo study session or even group session. The WiFi is not the fastest but it gets the job done. Today was my first time back to this place in a really long time and I got a large Winter Dream Tea Latte (limited time only) and it was yummy. It was not too sweet and has a very good smell. I got here at around 10 AM on Saturday and it is already pretty packed! So come early if you want a good table. read more

The customer service at this location is HORRIBLE. When I was up next to order, the employee working the register looked at me, started to laugh with a coworker about who knows what, then turns his attention back to me. There was no greeting or anything, he just stared at me until I ordered and the whole interaction was awkward and uncomfortable. My drink comes out and it was the wrong drink. I had ordered a tea drink and received coffee. When I bring it to the shift supervisor that made it, she literally avoids eye contact and just says "okay." No apology or acknowledgment that she made a mistake. After making a new drink she basically slams it on the counter without a word. When she realizes I'm looking at her she goes, "that's your drink." I don't understand how hard it is to be polite. Definitely not returning here. read more

So I've always been a hardcore fan or the "other place". I was on my way there when I seen the crowd from the outside and decided to not even go in. Further down the street is this Coffee Bean where there was no crowd at all. I didn't think that their beverages were as strong as stbx but the hazelnut latte over ice was no comparison and tasted so much better! I think I'm going to convert but I have to try them a few more times. This location has much more space to breathe and to sit and study. I also like how I can gaze out onto Atlantic Blvd to people/traffic watch lol. This use to be my go to spot. It has gone downhill fast! Every mobile order I have submitted is either never ready or they're out of what they have and fail to let me know. The coffee is either too strong or too weak. I don't have the time or money to waste on this location any longer. I feel really bad writing this review because the staff is very friendly, but the product is sh*t. I'll be the first one to stand up and SHOUT that I'm a picky consumer, but my taste buds do know the difference between 'passable' and 'this doesn't even taste close to what it's supposed to taste like'.. and that's what this place serves up. It's close to work so today when I was running late and didn't have time to stop at my beloved Starbucks for a much needed Americano, I stopped here instead. I figured an Americano should be pretty textbook across the board. But of course, I was wrong. It was like mud.. I've never experienced a bad experience at a coffee house ever! I felt like I was on one of those shows on ABC News called What Would You Do? With John Quinones. On Friday, October 7, 2011 at 7:20am, I had walked into a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf for a quick cup of coffee. I noticed it wasn't crowded- just about 3 people waiting for their orders. I think about 10 minutes went by and a couple were getting really upset and rude at the staff and patiently waiting customers because they yelled they had waiting for over 20 minutes for a cup of coffee. They were cussing at customers and getting physical- I was shocked. I began to feel like I was in the same boat- I had been waiting for 10-15 minutes for a cup of coffee as well. This location had a full staff and so I didn't understand why there was a wait?? When the barista handed me my cup of coffee, she said sorry about the wait. I had finally exited the building at 7:58am, and had walked in at 7:20am for just a cup of coffee! WTF?!! read more

I went into the Coffee Bean in Bixby Knolls with my parents. My mom had some leftover soup with her from a restaurant next door. She brought it with her to the counter. We ordered 4 drinks and sat at a table together. The barista that took our order came to our table & told us that outside food is not allowed because they were a "Kosher" establishment. Besides the rudeness in the way we were approached, there are no signs stating that outside food is not allowed or stating what she meant by "kosher". I have brought outside food with me to other Coffee Beans and other coffee house chains with no problems many times. Their product is not worth putting up with the terrible service. This place always has nothing but horrible customer service. The first time I had ever been here, I waited half an hour , 30 stupid minutes for 1 drink. It turns out it had just been sitting there and no one even bothered to call our name, may I remind you I was sitting next to where they hand out the drinks. The next time I had been there, I asked for whipped cream on my smoothie, and I kindly asked her when she handed it to me if they had any whipped cream, she rolled her eyes and said "I would have to throw away the drink and they would make a new one as long as I payed for another one" there wasn't even anything wrong with it! I come here because they are one of the only major places (I won't name others) that offers oolong tea. On those mornings where I am not feeling so well, I'll try to stop by here to pick up a oolong tea with some honey. It picks me right up. The environment is also pretty cool. Just what you'd expect from a coffee shop. The employees here are nice and make me feel right at home. That is a big plus for me, because often times at their competitor, I'll feel rushed or not quite welcome. No need to worry about that here. Another added bonus is this location has plenty of seating. Great if you want to pass time by and work or study. Not to loud either. If you want something different, like my reasoning, then give this place a try. Break out from your ordinary comfort zone. read more

We love this place, we being my two year old son and me. The coffee is way better than Starbucks and the baristas are so friendly. They make going in to get my morning coffee a treat! They know everyone's names and use them. Five stars for customer service! As far as food, the Apple Streusel muffin is delightful, and the pumpkin chocolate muffin (seasonal :( ) is oh so good. They even have adorable mini donuts for the kids, which my son LOVES! My only wish is that they would get an app and reward system similar to that of Starbucks. I'm a frequent flyer here (to put it mildly, ha!) and this location is by far the best one!! I have been to several different coffee beans in So-Cal, and none of the other locations can compare to the spectacular staff & fun, relaxing vibe that the Bixby location offers. Walking into that place you can't help but smile! The store itself is huge, has cozy chairs, wifi, and the baristas greet you with a smile as they welcome you to the store! Each staff member is helpful, kind, knowledgeable, & eager to make the day better! :-) Not only is the service AMAZING, the product is absolutely delicious. I like this Coffee Bean because it has a lot of stuff I look for in an internet cafe. They stay open until 10 p.m., they have cozy chairs in the dining room, a nice staff and a bathroom with electricity. Their wifi works well and it's free. The coffee was really good. I ordered the flavored one called Dulce de Cream and I just got a refill for $1. I like how they give you honey sticks. It tastes really good and it's an interesting way to consume honey - through a straw. I also like the juices and yogurts they sell here. Plus, the atmosphere is diverse, just like Long Beach. Right after I wrote everything above, it all went downhill. I had to downgrade them to two stars. Here's why. First, one of the baristas was sweeping dust and dirt just a foot or two from me and my open drinks. This is a pet peeve of mine because it just flies in there and debris is full of germs. Next, the internet shuts off an hour before they close! It stopped and I didn't say anything for about 15 minutes, then I asked the couple next to me if they were getting the wifi signal and they said no. When I approached the baristas, they told me how it just stops at 9 p.m. even though they close at 10 p.m. They should have told me this when I asked for the wifi code around 7:30-8 p.m. I had some very important work to do online and couldn't do it. I also had plans that were disrupted because I needed to find another wifi connection in the middle of the night (and I couldn't nearby). Coffee Bean should make a sign that says their wifi stops working at 9pm. I suggested this to them, too. read more

It's a good thing for them I'm not writing this review a couple of years ago. I've been avoiding this particular CBTL because I've had such bad experiences (drink orders forgotten or taking forever, and then coming out wrong, etc). But I've always liked CBTL coffee better than Starbucks, and today I happened to be nearby so I decided to pop in for a cafe mocha. A middle-aged dude was cashiering, and I must say, he's a vast improvement over the clueless college kids who used to work here in the mornings. Fast efficient service, what's that? My drink came out fast (granted, it wasn't very crowded) and correct, and really that's all I ask. Guess it's safe to start coming here again. read more

A fun little anecdote about my experience today. Enjoy: Today (6/29) Coffee Bean was handing out free Iced Coffee at select locations (thank you Yelp for posting this event). I wasn't 100% sure that my neighborhood CB & TL was one of the chosen few so I thought I'd stop by and find out. I go in, pull up the e-mail event reminder on my smart phone (cuz I'm cool like that), show it to the girl at the register and the dialogue went something like this: Me: "Are you participating in this?" She reads it...pauses...smiles and says "Yes, we are would you like one?" Me: "Yes please, I'll try the Iced Americano" I then look up towards the menu to find a large sign clearly advertising the fact that they are giving away free iced coffees...and I thought I was being SO sly about it. To lighten things up, I pointed out my new discovery...I laughed, she laughed...it was a nice moment. The End :) I really do love this particular coffee chain much more than the other guy (i.e. Starbucks). Better quality, friendlier people, and much less pretentious. read more

I have an addiction to coffee. A serious one. I don't know why that's important to say in this review, but it is. Maybe because part of that addiction is that I am addicted to Coffee Bean! I just love, love, love their drinks. Sweet but strong, not watered down, with enough kick to get me through the day until I get my next fix. I love how their drinks are not too sweet to overpower the amazing taste of coffee. And this location is my favorite because of the excellent, VERY excellent customer service they provide. They're so personable and I just don't feel like I'm going to a "chain" coffee shop. My recommendations (in order of preference): If you're in the mood for a latte: -White Chocolate Latte -Dark Chocolate Latte -Vanilla Latte Want a blended drink? Try: -White Chocolate Dream!!! -Original Vanilla -Caramel And my go-to drink: Iced white chocolate latte with chocolate swirls! Not much of a wait at 10 AM Friday morning. Food selection was limited and same price as Starbucks, so I'd actually go there instead for food. Adequate seating, not too cold not too warm. Service from cashier and baristas was friendly, helpful, and polite. Coffee was okay. The person I went with ordered a Cold Brew Coffee and recommended it to me. I ordered a coffee with "Bali" in its name. Tasted okay, better than Starbucks but not memorable. read more
