If I can put zero stars, I would. Ellora was my favorite barista and truly gave me the best customer service experience with a warm smile. It's disheartening to see someone so talented and kind no longer part of this team. I've had fine interactions from Roy, but his behavior and attitude towards his baristas is very off putting and leaves a horrible impression. As a regular customer, Roy's treatment towards his team makes me not want to return. I hope to see improvement in staff decisions and customer service. read more

I usually go to starbucks to study, but there weren't any tables. When I came to coffee bean, they had more tables available (inside and outside the shop)! I don't go here often, so I wasn't sure what to get so I opted for their mango cold brew. It's really good! I like how they use crushed ice with the drink. Within a minute or two of ordering, they had my order ready! I love that they have fast service. I only wished that they had more areas with outlets because my laptop was on low battery but all the seats near outlets were taken. read more

My husband orders his usual almond latte and he is disappointed as he drives away when he checks on his drink. I asked him why not inform them that the drink is NOT to his liking---compared to the other CBTL branches where he buys the same drink. He says it's useless because they're "untrainable". The latte should have enough froth to give it a creamy taste but it's close to being flat. The only reason he bought it is out of necessity, to stay awake. I am hoping that the next time he orders it that he'll inform them to make it right. In my opinion, you give them the business, you might as well be happy with the purchase. read more

Such a great environment. The vibes are there. Music choices are great and it isn't too loud. It's perfect for me get work done or just sit around and take a break. Floors, tables, and restroom are clean. Not a speck of dirt that I noticed. And the baristas are great. All the orders come out pretty quick and well made. I ordered a peach jasmine cold brew and Nicole had it down. Mixed well and served ice cold. I like Coffee Bean more than Starbucks, and this one just isn't it. When I made my order, the barista snapped at me about my drink and said "this isn't Starbucks" in a super rude way. My order was a double hazelnut cappuccino. I kindly said "that's strange because that's always my drink order from Coffee Bean and I've never had an issue", and she saw that I had a rewards account to pay with, she went back on what she said and then said "well we can do that, I just don't think it's worth it". The whole exchange was so rude and snarky, I wish I got her name but she didn't have a name tag on. Unfortunately I'll be going to Starbucks from now on even though I prefer Coffee Bean. read more

UNSAFE FOOD WARNING!! I found 5 dead flies in my drink today so this is the last straw. The managers even yelled at and discriminated against me too! I've been here a couple times so let me tell you my other experiences: 1. Why the hell are there flies in my drink???? Can someone explain to me how this even happens???? Maybe they don't clean, maybe they leave caps open I don't know but thank god it happened to me because I'm sure the next person got the same germs from my unsanitary drink since they don't wash their blender each time I'm sure of it. They messed up before though because one time they made the wrong drink and I had to wait over 16 minutes for another because of long line lol 2. Another time the manager told me with the most disrespectful, rushed attitude "buy a drink to use the bathroom, customers only" as if I was going to wait in the LONGEST line while my bladder overfills FIRST, especially when I was obviously a customer...STARBUCKS DOES NOT TREAT CUSTOMERS THIS WAY and they're down the street (1 minute away). This place treats us as if we're just walking dollar signs that need to prove our worth first before they give us respect. **I demand equal treatment lmao. This is discrimination at its finest and yes I think it's race or appearance related because they didn't use to do this to other customers. Its better to 'refuse service' to anyone rather than tell a potential customer to buy something or get out (again it's a cafe). Starbucks doesn't need to do this and they're more successful. I'd also like to reiterate that it's a CAFE so people come here to STUDY and will buy things AFTER a few hours lol. They should do more research on how to run a cafe, this isn't a Chinese noodle house or store where a "customers only" sign and attitude would be appropriate.** 3. Some of the employees here are nice sure, but the managers are a**holes meaning they don't manage the place well so I recommend DRIVE DOWN THE STREET FOR YOUR DRINKS there's literally a Starbucks right next to this place and they treat you with more respect, kindness, and have way better music choices too lmao. 4. I ordered the vanilla frape another time and was like 'why does everything taste overly sweet and like they add coffee to everything even in the vanilla frapes?' Maybe because they don't wash the blender each time or maybe that's this places style, either way Starbucks is just better. 5. I'm not even biased I give restaurants chances to redeem themselves so I came here often. But this isn't how you run a cafe. Overall, do not come here unless you want to drink flies and fly eggs, be treated like a walking dollar sign with no respect, deal with a "buy something or get out" attitude even though it's a CAFE where people STUDY so it makes no sense (maybe that's why Starbucks doesn't treat customers like this), and terrible overly sweet drinks made by rude, unsanitary employees who don't care when Starbucks does it better down the street without these inconveniences. read more

Great service! I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese, and it was toasted just the way I wanted it, which was wonderful. However, the equipment they use only toasts the top, therefore the bagel isn't really crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, like bagels are supposed to be. I've been coming to this location for about 4 years and it never disappoints. Of course it's a chain coffee shop, but the service and friendliness they offer is all that makes a difference compared to other locations. Oh also, may I add that their playlists are always on POINT. My favorites on the coffee bean menu are the dark chocolate ice blended (tends to be lower in calories, but still creamy, and full of flavor) and the chocolate croissant. I have been coming to this CBTL location since 2014/15. Almost a decade has passed, and only now am I finding a need to write this review. Management at this location must re-evaluate how they are training their workers concerning proper customer service and experience. Some of the baristas at this location have such condescending attitudes that it leaves an unpleasant taste to the whole experience (though some are great). I have visited this location plenty of times after 6 or 7PM to find tables and chairs already stacked up and put away, with the knowledge that they do not close until 9PM. Being in a college town, I can't imagine the loss of clientele during the busy semesters when people drive pass assuming the shop is closed. Bathroom is always running out of soap, paper towels and toilet paper and not consistently replenished. At times, walking in with the bathroom filthy due to no consistent cleaning schedules during the day. Coffee at this location has always been consistent, but specialty tea/coffee beverages have always been subpar at best. Please do better at training your staff to maintain quality standards, it sucks to see one of my favorite coffee shops declining. read more

We came to order some tea and pastries tonight at 8: pm on 8/17/2023 The chairs were already stacked up and the restroom was closed We asked the clerks why they were setting up to closed two hours before closing time. The answer was : it's our policy. I'm sure the owners/managers would not take that approach when there are customers using the tables and new customers coming in. I only drink tea so this is a review for that. I've been to this coffee bean before and have had no issues. I normally order at the store but due to covid I decided I should order online. I downloaded the app and ordered a pomegranate blueberry ICED tea but when I went to pick it up there was no ice in it. Seeing as how the person working there barely even bothered to look up when I walked in I just grabbed it and left. Now I'm stuck with like $7 more to spend because I had to purchase a $10 gift card to pay for my drink. Wish I would've just gone to Starbucks. Only plus side was it wasn't busy...I guess that happens when the drinks aren't great and the customers are rude. read more

Whenever I visit family in Long Beach I would always come specifically to this Coffee Bean location. With all the great experiences I've had I wish I would've written a 5 star review, but now I'm unfortunately giving this once beloved coffee shop a one star review. Normally chain cafes don't give that family owned feel, but this location would and I owe the credit of that to the staff. Ellora was my favorite barista, not just because of how well she made my drinks, but how she would always have a smile on her face and as I would be working her smile would never fade. She gave all her customers the same energy and I could feel the passion she had for her job. Which is so rare, especially at these chain restaurants. It breaks my heart to learn the unjust situation she is facing with being fired. I don't think I will ever visit any coffee bean location again after learning this is how they treat their staff, especially the ones whom uplift and work so hard for the company. Ellora was a core member of this team that made this location as special as it was and I fear it will never be the same without her. Thank you for all your hard work, Ellora. Every time I come here, the workers are so friendly and nice! Last time, I was staring at the menu for a long time because I wanted to try a new coffee drink but didn't want a overly sweet flavored latte. As I was being indecisive for 5 min or so, the girl working there talked to me and helped me out. She suggested I get an Americano (espresso with water) with a few pumps of flavored sweetener and that it was her favorite go-to drink. To my surprise I really liked the americano with pumps of hazelnut !! seriously SO GOOD! My other tea favorite is their iced blueberry pomegranate tea! I don't usually leave a review unless a place is amazing. Unfortunately, this is the first time it is because of a horrible experience. My wife and I were displaced because of the Creek Fire in Fresno and Madera County. My wife came down a few days before me, and today was the first day we had a chance to talk about the future and possibly losing our home in the fire. We popped the kids in the van to treat them with Krispy Kreme to help them forget about the fires. Right next to it was one of my favorite chains, Coffee Bean. I used to live in these stores as I was building my business and even back to my college days. I thought that since we were in town because of this tragedy, what better way to feel better than to visit an old stomping ground. I have a medical condition that prevents me from wearing a face covering. Even with the immense amount of smoke next to our house, wearing one could potentially be more dangerous to me than not. Thankfully, the CA state mandate/guidelines have exemptions for those with similar conditions. When I entered I was told I needed to wear a mask by the lady at the register. That is fine and understandable. I get that a lot and rightfully so. I then informed her that I had a medical condition that prevented me from doing so. That's when things got interesting. She never raised her voice, which was a plus, but she said I needed to order and wait outside with a indignant tone. Essentially she was saying I was not welcome, so just give us your money, leave, and you are lucky you are getting coffee from us. Again, I stated that I had a medical condition but she responded with "Look sir, you can either order and wait outside or you can leave." I asked for the manager and it turns out that she WAS the manager. I then asked her what law requires me to wear a mask in the store despite my condition. She said she did not know. I asked if she was familiar with California Civil Code 51(b)? She said didn't know, and didn't care that the civil code requires equal treatment of persons with medical conditions within ANY business in California. For example, if someone with a wheelchair came in and could potentially roll over someone's foot and break that person's toe, you can't mandate that the person in the wheelchair stand up while inside. And then If customer says they have a medical condition that keeps them from standing up you can't order and then go outside just in case. Then I asked her that if somebody else with a disability came into the store, would she refuse them too. She emphatically said "yes". This... was... the manager. I didn't even mention the Americans with Disabilities Act, which is on the federal level. Anyway, as a veteran I learned that the only thing constant is change. Unfortunately, one of my favorite chains has changed and added additional burns during these trying times. read more

But for real, I like this place. There's a large community table, a few small tables, and then one 4-seater table. And then there's seating outside. BUT this place is always crowded! You have to come early before all the CSULB students settle in because they end up staying all day at the bigger tables. Sometimes there's bums that come in or super shady people that just sit and use wifi without ordering anything all day too. Favorite drink: Iced white mocha coffee. TRUST ME. MMMM. This is what keeps me coming back despite there always being no tables. Oh, and always answer "To Go" when they ask, otherwise you get charged tax. I will start by saying I like the The Coffee Bean and have had positive experiences at this location however I am confused by the lack of disregard when serving delivery drinks. This morning I received my flat large white nearly half empty. Is there a reason for cheating the customers helping the business stay afloat and the employees keep their jobs? If you have to request the barista ensure they provide the proper serving you are paying for then perhaps it's time to find a new location. I guess the lesson learned is take the lid off and check to see if they properly filled your costly cup of coffee. Has anyone else had this experience? read more
