The coffee tasted like it was brewed with yesterday's grind and the latter tasted like they just put the garbage coffee in a cup with some pumpkin spice coffee creamer. We just came back from a weekend in Harpers Ferry. It was Labor Day weekend, so everything was crowded. Despite this, the servers did an amazing job accommodating our large group of 12. Just tubed down the river and stopped in Harper's Ferry for a quick meal. We stopped at The Coffee Mill and all enjoyed our meals. Granted we were starving from our ferry ride but everything hit the spot. I got the turkey club, my boyfriend got the crab cake sandwich, my sister got a burger. My family has been coming to this place for years during the summer to visit with family and have previously had good experiences. We decided to come for Christmas this year and returned to our usual spot; it was a huge disappointment. The coffee, which claims to be from a local vendor (also their name is "The Coffee Mill"), tasted like burnt water and was not drinkable. The coffee creamer containers were left out in open air with no refrigeration and smelled bad. The worst part about this place was the cleanliness level. To start, there were footprints on our table (probably from hanging Christmas lights). Also, there were mass amounts of dirt and old ice cream caked onto the bottom of the ice cream cooler. I ordered hot chocolate and saw the hot chocolate machine...it had splattered hot chocolate all over the machine and looked as if it had not been cleaned in a while. I also got a milkshake; the machine to blend the milkshakes were completely dirty and had definitely been used for previous shakes before mine and had not been cleaned. When I went to use the bathroom; the floors in the back were horribly dirty and the yellow mop bucket was covered in dirt to the point that it was completely brown. Finally, I looked for their health code score and it was nowhere to be found inside or out. Good malted milkshake and the employees were nice; it was just clear they are held to low standards when it comes to cleanliness and health code. Would not return if all food is prepared at this level of carelessness. Take your pick. read more

Went there today after hiking the trail for over two hours and were beyond disappointed. The menu looks good with a variety of sandwiches and salads but upon sitting down we knew it was going to go downhill. The place was by no means full and yet we waited at least 10 minutes to even get our drinks (bottled water and fountain soda). We gave every signal that we were ready to order and still were ignored. I finally went around the counter where our server was chatting with another employee to tell her to take our order. I ordered the black bean and veggie burger and my mother ordered the greek salad and cinnamon roll. The food took at least another 15 minutes to come and mine consisted of a stale bun, burnt patty (albeit tasty), and old coleslaw. The only thing saving my meal were the french fries which were very good. My mom's greek salad was lackluster but appeared fresh although it did not come with any sort of greek dressing or the usual abundance of toppings. None of the condiments were even halfway full and yet 3 employees (our server included) were standing around talking constantly. Tables were not wiped and the floor looked as like it hadn't been swept since opening. It was just past 12 on a Wednesday in off-season so this isn't me being a clean freak it just shows a lack of any sort of customer service. The reason this place gets the ranking it does is almost solely based on the service. As a server I tend to give a lot of slack because I know how hard it can be but our server went above and beyond. The woman was pleasant and not rude or harsh but simply was not attentive in the least bit. We had to throw ourselves at her to get any sort of attention because she was that oblivious to what customers may need. When it came time to pay I went up to the counter to pay because she had not dropped off the check and we had already wasted enough time waiting around for her. If the Coffee Mill is all there is open then go for it but don't be fooled into taking a seat and attempting to get served. Take the advice we gave fellow patrons who walked up after us (confused as to why they were told to take a seat and then promptly ignored) and order your food at the front and order it to-go. read more

What a terrible coffee shop! Went to The Coffee Mill get some coffee on a Wednesday in August. "We serve great latte's" said the sign. I asked for a latte, but they said they weren't doing latte's that day. Not doing latte's at the Coffee Mill? So we asked for plain coffee, which was grudgingly served. We asked for cream for the coffee. The TWO guys in the kitchen kept saying "it's right there" and we kept saying "I'm sorry, we don't see the cream". Did they come out of the kitchen to help us? No. Were they so busy? No, they were chatting. Did they come to check that the cream was really there? No (and it wasn't there). They eventually slid us a half cup of milk from the kitchen window for 2 cups of coffee (again grudgingly). The coffee was so terrible we could hardly drink it, which does not bode well for this coffee shop. In the end, it was one of the worst cups of coffee we had EVER had along with shockingly bad service. read more

I've been coming here for a while, mostly because you don't have a lot of choices in Harper's. It's got a prime spot right on one of the main corners. The atmosphere is nice, the patio in the back is great. Some of their food is really good. The problem is they don't clean off their tables and usually about half of their menu isn't available. Don't let the name fool you, they have no business serving coffee. It tasted metallic like out of a gas station urn that had been on all day. We actually tried to visit here a couple of times. The first time they saw us at the walk up ice cream window and ignored us for longer than it took for us and few other guest to go down to another ice cream place next door. I'm not a dick, I'll wait if you are busy but they weren't, it was just a bunch of kids running the place dicking around and not giving two shits about what was happening. That said the service is decent and despite the fact that they only do their burgers "well done" they have good food. We had a party of 12 and she would NOT split our meal tickets and was down right rude about it. Then when she forgot a water for a person in our party her response was snippety and said "I have someone in the back making it" (water?). When we tried to break up our meal ticket at the register she said it wasn't allowed and failed to mention that she so generously applied her 18% gratuity (without informing anyone. This review is more an apology than anything. I felt really bad about my most recent trip to the Coffee Mill, as I seemed to have severely inconvenienced the employees. I was feeling particularly bold that day so I selfishly entered the restaurant during business hours and had the audacity to order an item listed on the menu. The employee behind the counter politely informed me that they did not have this dish, obviously. Realizing my horrible mistake, I decided to go for the pumpkin flavored ice cream, as I could see that there was an ample amount for a single serving. They again insisted that they were out of this flavor, so I could only assume that to serve it would conjure up a painful memory that would be too difficult for the employees to bear. Worst cup of coffee I had ever had. Why even put coffee in your name? Why not ice cream shack or something more honest? I asked what type of coffee they use, and got no response. My hot coffee tasted like nutty water, and my girlfriends ice coffee tasted like yesterday's coffee was just saved in the fridge and served today. YUCK! let me start with that. I was never one to Yelp, but after seeing this train wreck I feel obligated to. I visited there the other day. Staff was very kind but under extremely poor management and ownership. The place is sticky and the style is out dated. A/C was not working or rather nonexistent, The poor staff are probably sweating and losing their minds. I was only in there for 5 minutes and felt as if i was being baked in an oven. We ordered our food to go after waiting in a long line just to find out there was table service. The food was terrible. My husband ordered a bacon cheeseburger and it was probably one of the worst he had had in his life. We found the disgusting cheap brand bacon in the back cooler next to all the ice creams as we were leaving. We also ordered an iced latte. I thought after being called the coffee mill they cant have mess up the coffee as well. As the boy making my drink he was refilling the espresso machine with a black bag. He didn't put the bag back where he had got it and the bag read COFFEE on it and not espresso. I reminded the boy for espresso and he replied "this is the espresso ma'am". received an Iced mocha on accident. I told the boy it was quite alright and i'll drink it. I would give this restaurant a 0 if i could. we walked in and were told to sit wherever but all the tables inside were covered with either dirty dishes, boxes or other items. we ate outside and the chairs were wet but we found a good spot. when we were ordering drinks the waitress told us we could go to the other restaurant that they owned because the food was better after my husband asked for beer. the bread was stale for our sandwich. the waitress was rude. the credit card machine was not working and the waitress didn't tell us that when we sat down. we overheard her telling another table. her solution was to walk up to the ATM and come back to the restaurant. I asked if they could take a check because we didn't have debit cards and she said the owner wasn't there so she couldn't take a check. finally after asking repeatedly she called the owner and asked. she acted like it was our fault the credit card machine was out and it was an inconvenience for her. horrible. i will never eat at this place again read more
