The staff here were so welcoming! We got caught in crazy rain and asked if our pup could sit on the patio. No problem, they welcomed us inside with our dog! This place is in a great spot right before you get on the hiking trail, but that's about the most positive thing I can say after stopping in for the first time this weekend. I ordered an iced latte, and it was so sweet I had to throw it away after a couple sips. My boyfriend's drink had the same issue. There aren't a lot of choices in Harpers Ferry, but I'd skip this one or order something different. read more

Ehhh big disappointment. Touting themselves as THE place for coffee in HP, they really miss the mark. My husband can't drink regular caffeinated coffee and I'm breast feeding so decaf is also my only choice. The Coffee Mill doesn't have any decaf, and their drinks are just one size fits all. Filthy. Tourist trap, nothing more. I used the restroom out of desperation and there was an internal debate around whether not washing my hands (not touching the sink) was more hygienic. I ended up washing the sink handles, then washing my hands, then using a paper towel to open the door. I still felt contaminated. The coffee was watery. The food (which we did not eat) was expensive. The tables and all other visible surfaces were dirty. I'm surprised that such a business is allowed to operate within a national park. It's shameful. read more

Hungry and tired after walking around Harpers Ferry so decided to give this place a try. The girl that took our order at the counter was not very friendly, acted like she did not want to be there. OK, first the strange. All sandwiches were served on kaiser rolls. It seemed like they could have used a couple extra employees, it was lunch hour on a Saturday & service seemed a bit overwhelmed. Also the bathroom was in pretty poor shape, long line & the toilet stopped flushing. The food was pretty good though, I had the veggie sandwich & it was far better than I expected. Lots of flavor, very fresh, crunchy veggies. Total bill with tip included just over $100 for two adults & six kids (from 9 to 16). So I'd go back, but it's not a "can't miss" place. This place has delicious food! It was so hot outside every time we went to walk around Harpers Ferry. When we first found The Coffee Mill and ate there, we kept going back! I've been there several times and tried a variety of items on the menu. I kept coming back to the black bean burger. So good! They serve it with fries and the burger itself is so tasty! Crisp lettuce, juicy tomato, and served in a fresh bun. The combination of ingredients makes it unique and very flavorful. You can't really taste the black bean, which some black bean burgers are too heavy with the black bean part. Highly recommended. They also have salads and real beef patties for the meat lovers as well. I will definitely be returning! Very good and the service was fantastic every time we went. It is usually busy, so make sure to be there at around 11am, because it fills up quickly for lunch! read more

My first visit to Harper's Ferry was filled with all kinds of excitement and adventure. When the time came for us to eat lunch I knew this was the place we had to go. The signs around the street told us about their various burgers and that was enough to reel me in. The food was amazing! I have honestly never had worse customer service or a worse cup of "coffee". The girl working the till outside was the most unhappy, grouchy, and rude human I have ever encountered. She shorted the lady in front of us change, and when the lady explained, she blankly stared at her, did not even say sorry. I ordered a hazelnut latte and a mocha- $5 each. My latte taste like watered down milk. It had coffee grounds floating on the top. It tasted like a shot of coffee with milk. Mocha was like watered down hot chocolate. I was hosting a group of seven plus two puppies on Labor Day 2021, and after a post-lunch walk on a beautiful sunny day, all of us were craving coffee and dessert. The Coffee Mill took care of us like family. The ladies who were on duty that day were really gracious and patient with all customers even though they were very busy. We came here after our 5 hours hiking around the area for three reasons: 1) outdoor seating; 2) pet friendly patio; 3) large custard sign. And it was an absolute delight. It was packed but our waitress was delightful. Our food was DELICIOUS! Two of us order the pulled pork, two ordered the crab cakes, and one had the burger with loaded fries. We all happily devoured our delicious meal. The main entrees were excellently made. The fries were just okay. Downsides: tables are first come, seat yourself. I dislike giving bad reviews to small businesses, but I can't tell a lie. No air conditioning inside. Outside was so crammed that I was bumped several times. The waitress was sarcastic and snarky to the point that it was annoying. The menu was very limited. We asked twice for utensils and eventually got them for ourselves. It was an awfully hot day and we were never offered refills. I didn't personally go into the bathroom, but people in my party did and said it was horrible. My turkey BLT was missing bacon. I've been to this establishment several times because my fiancée loved the Mac and cheese burger but after this experience I will not be going back and will try to save anyone from going. It seems like all the waitresses there with the exception of 2, are high. The way they approach you is so odd and almost comical, even when they look at you it just seems like they are glaring over you. My waitress eyes were closed for the majority of our interactions. But I looked over all of that because of how friendly she was, soo naive of me. Upon leaving the town, my fiancée noticed he left his card at the restaurant and we rush back and grab it. Stopped for a cold coke after a bbq run to Purcellville. The Coffee Mill has a nice quaint and peaceful back patio that's off the beaten path in Harper's Ferry, at least during the week. No place in Harper's Ferry is quiet during the weekend, especially during the summer. Brings back fond memories when my father and I would stop by here for a bite after hiking the MD Heights blue blaze trail. On my last stop by here, I remember the coffee being very good. We ended up paying almost $10 for two cups of the worst gas-station level coffee (in styrofoam cups, which seems antithetical to the Park Service's mission) and a plastic-tasting cinnamon roll. This place is totally phoning it in, and they can get away with it because they are in a really cool location in a national historical park. I would recommend going anywhere else. We were going to eat but this place is so dirty I couldn't. The cup of coffee was good but it came in a paper cup so I didn't need to worry (too much) about cleanliness. The floor was disgusting, the booth seat had food all over it(?!) And the bathroom was gross. The toilet was clean but the floor and the door looked as if they'd NEVER been cleaned. The whole place needs some 409 and elbow grease and a gallon of paint wouldn't hurt. Also, you can see the cook through a little window and she was talking or texting on her cell phone and then touching someone's burger buns and lettuce with no gloves or handwashing, then picking up the phone again. My husband, 3 children, and I were turned away from several restaurants for having a group that was too large. The staff at The Coffee Mill was understanding, kind, and extremely welcoming. My review is purely on the service, since we didn't stay long enough to eat. In the 10 minutes we were there just waiting for a menu, servers passed us three times, and a large group came in at about our 8 minute mark and got their menus immediately. Finally the server came and asked if we wanted menus, and initially we said yes, but as we were still waiting, two other tables got their checks. It's one thing to get low ratings because of bad food, which from what I hear this place DOES NOT have, but ignoring your customers before they ever get to rate your food seems a terrible way to do business. read more

The staff working were really sweet and also patient when I had lots of questions about the coffee/ice cream/hats they were selling/etc. The iced coffee was good and I also kept eyeing the burgers and hot dogs that others had bought. They have the machinery but tasted like half boiling water, which made the latte way hotter than normally steamed milk, and then milk with a little bit of coffee flavor. My husband, son, and I visited The Coffee Mill last weekend. It was the worst experience eating out I've had in a very long time. First, the service at the indoor counter. I looked for, but didn't see any, paper menus, so we felt rushed trying to read through the menu board. (The line snaked around a corner, so you couldn't see the menu board until you were second in line.) We quickly ordered our food (burger, bacon burger, and hot dog combos) and paid. The girl at the register did not smile once. Nor did she say "thank you," not even when I added a tip on the check. She just kind of stared at me. There were no empty tables inside, so we made our way to the outside patio. We sat at a picnic table and waited for our number to be called. A few minutes later, a waitress came up and wanted to know if we wanted menus. I said that we already ordered inside, but-- she rushed off before I could tell her that I'd like to see a menu. From that point forward, she ignored us. We had to get everything we needed, like napkins and ketchup from other tables. she made sure to help other people though. I assume she knew she wouldn't be getting a tip from us since we had already paid. If we had known, we would've been more than happy to order as a sit-down diner, but we didn't see any signs to tell us how the ordering worked, inside vs outside. As for the food, it was terrible. Not bad as in rotten, but bad as in no effort was put into making it taste good. The fries had no salt and were cold. The buns were also cold and not toasted or anything to make them softer. It was as if they were made to be brown-and-serve, but they forgot to brown before they served. The burgers had no flavor, not even a beefy flavor. My son barely touched his hot dog. I took a bite; it had a weird flavor, kind of chemical, like food dye. The best part of the entire experience was the bottled water and Nantucket Nectar. So instead I ordered a Cafe Americano...not so good but it also took for ever. There was only one person taking and making the orders. While we were waiting for our drinks two couples came in and left because no one attended them. We did not order food so I can't rate it.
