The lot is small with compact spaces so we were glad we didn't accept a jeep upgrade. I can see it being challenging to park during busier times. This spot is super homey and the views are amazing. The service was also friendly. We ordered coffees, the papaya special, and the Kona eggs plate. It was such a great surprise to see the geckos come out to feast on their jam as soon as our food had arrived! They kept to themselves but were so cute to watch while we ate. Overall, I really enjoyed the food. The fruit was delicious and I loved the coconut pound cake slice. I saw many reviews raving about their desserts and wish I took some to-go. My bf liked the onion dill bread that he chose for his Kona eggs plate. Given that this place is called The Coffee Shack, I had high expectations with the coffee but it was a letdown. I ordered an iced coffee and iced latte, and neither were strong. My coffee tasted watered down, and the latte had way too much milk. I think the coffee is skippable here. This was the way to start off your vacation the next morning after flying from the mainland. It's at a higher elevation. All the other reviews hit on the main points. Call in and make your reservation especially if there are more than 2 people. Took us about 40 mins to drive from Waikoloa. It is right next to the main road with people driving 40-50mph so watch your kids and especially backing up from a parking space. My daughter told me there have been a few accidents there and you see the pictures you can see why. The food was delicious to the point we took 4 items to go. The cinnamon roll was so good the fam ordered 3 more to go. I had the French toast and it was delicious with Mac nuts and carrots in it. My daughter had egg sandwich and devoured it. read more

This was one of the best places we went to while in Big Island. The food has soul and you can tell that it is well thought out. The staff seems to be in a good mood, which I think is really good to observe. Food wise, I liked everything we ordered. She was so personable, made great recommendations and shared her journey to paradise with us! It's so inspiring and her energy is magnetic! The location is beautiful and has scenic views. We grabbed a table on the outdoor patio after a friendly staff member greeted us. Soon thereafter, she took our orders all while having a huge smile on her face. I ordered the egg scramble with corn strips (the special at the time), a side of potatoes, and homemade sourdough bread and of course, a hot coffee with macadamia nut milk. The entrée portion was huge, extremely fresh, delicious, and just overall, perfect. The coffee was a delight too! Writing this experience is placing me back on that patio and wanting more! Finally seated after 1 hour and 45 minutes. Waitress took our order after another 20 minutes, the meals came 50 minutes later. It looks rather unassuming from the highway but one step inside the door and you are welcomed into a patio overlooking the hillside where they grow their coffee beans!
