parking - we were driving back to boston and needed a dinner pit stop. i found the common man close to the highway without much detour. we pulled up to the massive parking lot and thought we were at a farm. many rows later we found a spot on a gravel space. ambiance - walking in felt like grandma's house and a cabin in the woods, super super sized. two hostess were happy to take our name, we got a notification buzzer device. there was a long list of people ahead of us. we walked around to find the bathroom. there's a dining room in every nook. there's also a bar and lounging area by the fireplace. food - there's a self serving complimentary cheese and cracker station near every dining area. if you're starving, it's a great little snack to have. a variety of bread was brought out while we waited. it was a nice selection and really liked the variety. i wish the butter was whipped for easy spreading. we started with the lobster bisque soup. it was probably one of the best i've had. good portion, super creamy and thick, lightly seasoned, and there was a nice texture. our entrees were a couple of seafood plates. both plates came with potato and string beans. one plate was baked potato while the other was mashed potato. both seafood were baked with bread crumb toppings. the dishes are hearty and filling, lots of butter. we both found the seafood overcooked. i would make another pit stop here next time i'm driving through the area. read more

First off, he was very professional and respectful. He always served me ( ladies first) before my husband :) there were cheese and crackers offered for free. The drinks were delicious. Our meal was phenomenal. I haven't had a chicken plate that good in a long time!! While sitting, the bartender Ed noticed an elderly customer who hasn't been there in 7 years. This is a NH staple that I have been to before. The decorations and design are true to the name and feels like you're in a quaint ski village back in time. Fits very well with the area and is very homey. Along with this the service was great, although it was busy. We started with the Mexican Street Corn Dip and got the Salmon and New York Sirloin as our mains. All of the food came out great and were really good sized portions. I ordered the steak medium rare and did come out on the rarer side which I was happy with. Gluten Free: They take dietary restrictions very serious here. They had a separate gluten free menu that had a wide selection. Our server was knowledgeable and all of the food came out marked with special allergy sticks. This is a huge space, and really beautifully maintained. It had a kind of old school feel but also upscale. The woman taking names and giving out the waiting buzzers was so sweet and got us a table quicker than we thought- and in the meantime we were able to grab a beer in the bar area with the giant fireplace. So gorgeous and amazing decor! ANYWAY, food. When you sit down, they let you know there's cheese available, and they bring you warm bread and butter. Mmm. We got the "not escargot" app- mushroom caps, tons of cheese, puff pastry- YUM. so good. For mains, my bf got the Nantucket Pie (seafood galore), and I got the plant based bolognese. Oh my god. What a dream. This food is so beautifully put together. The flavor is unique and cohesive and so strong. A+. Both were really great and decent sizes too, for 4 people! For my entree I ordered their popular pulled pork mac and cheese. I can't even begin to describe how good this was. There's a reason we all love Common Man. The woodsy vibes are immaculate, and the servers are over the top friendly, exactly where you want to go to chow down after a long day of outdoor adventures. Nowadays there's usually quite the wait to get in, but once you're seated there's communal cheese and cracker tables to take the edge off the hunger. The servers are always very sociable, often asking about the day's activities and sharing their own experiences. I usually get the bolognese (with vegan "meat"). The food may not be the best I've ever had, but along with the cozy ambiance, it hits the spot. As every reviewer before has said, the wait here can be long so its recommended that you reserve ahead. There is ample parking and cute waiting areas. Everyone here was really nice and despite being packed, the food came out pretty quick for us. The food is mostly comfort food, which was exactly what we were looking for. It helps that the portions are huge! The bread was so good, one being super garlic-y and the other more like pound cake. The chicken pot pie and pot roast were our favorites. The lobster chowder was ok but a little too salty and cold. The complimentary cheese, crackers, and white chocolate were a nice touch, though the cheese and cracker station was completely raided when we were there. I thought our overzealous server was a good sign of things to come. (Spoiler: he was an awesome waiter, the food was okay) The appetizers that my friend ordered for us were pretty good. As for the main dish, I ordered the filet mignon which the friend also recommended. This was a mistake, my other buddy's blackened tuna was definitely the best dish out there. A little spicy, but at least it had other flavors as well. The filet mignon looked like a bundle of meat loaf from school. It was also very dry, no juice in that for sure. From there, I just pushed my hardest to finish it. Luckily, it had asparagus, which is my favorite. The potato was there, too, but I was pretty much done. If you are looking for a local restaurant that's a town staple ... but also a place with some nice atmosphere that just screams 'New England Ski Town' ... here it is! We made the mistake of passing through on a Friday night ... this place is slammed! Always packed with locals and tourists alike because the prices are amazing and the food is always good. The hostess was a bit brusque ... we requested a table in the cozier side of the restaurant (on the side with the bar with a big stone fireplace and leather seating area) and she said she would see what she could do. When we were being seated 30 minutes later, she make a left instead of a right and I reminded her that we preferred the other side. She pretty much just said, 'Honey, we're slammed. Sorry but you get what you get.' (I got it.) We were seated in a small allyway next to a table which contained condiments and a few cleared plates full of crumpled paper and food scraps. They sat there the whole meal ... the floor near our table was also dirty with scraps of food, pieces of papers and a few stray vegetables. We were happy just to get a table, honestly. Our waitress had the look in her eyes of a soldier who just came out of a night-long firefight. Clearly, it was busy! We tried not to make too many special requests as she seemed a bit shell shocked and bounced around to different tables like a pinball. (Did I mention it was Friday night at a popular restaurant in a NH resort town?) If you are social distancing and a bit concerned about eating inside of a restaurant ... don't come here on a weekend. It was just as crowded as I remember normal restaurants being before the pandemic ... they really do try hard to put a system in place where people don't gather in common areas, enter and leave from different doors and sit in their cars while waiting for a reservation. However, that many people in one building and there is a lot of air moving around and after a few drinks, it's like hearding cats. As 30-something year olds, we didn't mind it ... but I personally wouldn't bring granny here for a meal on a Friday night. There is a reason why it's always so crowded. The food is good ... consistent and the value is fantastic. I normally go for a burger or sandwich here, but for some reason I was really into steak tips. I probably wouldn't order them again ... they were a bit chewy, had lots of gristle and were not flavourful. I will say that I've NEVER been disappointed by a burger or sandwich here and the mac and cheese is unreal! My fault for trying to be a bit healthier and going off my normal routine. The date had the chicken special which was stuffed with some wonderful stuff ... I saw it and was jealous. She practically had a 'When Harry Met Sally' moment when eating it, she liked it so much. ("I'll have what she's having ...") I also had a cup of French Onion Soup, which was basically 75% bread and swiss cheese. I could have eaten two bowls. Desserts here are always amazing but sadly, we skipped it because we had ice cream that afternoon. It didn't stop me from buying one of their wonderful white chocolate bars on the way out for $3! What a steal ... this stuff is like white gold! Overall, if you are looking for comfort food, consistency and a cozy atmosphere (especially on the bar side!) this is the best of any of the Common Man restaurants for all that. Pretty solid meal and fun place. Kind of reminded us of Cracker Barrel with the farmhouse decor and antiques. The highlight of this place is the free cheese and crackers. Absolutely delicious truffle cheese dip. How can you just let me have as much as I want for free?! For dinner my husband and I split the Mac and cheese burger with truffle fries. This was a fun place to stop into while making my way north through New Hampshire. The building was quite old and charming. I had a Lunch IPA (which was quite delicious) and a burger. The waiter was pretty good although we did inquire a little bit about a rather long wait to get food (not his fault). We came here with our 2 small children at 5pm after a day of skiing. This might be the best post skiing meal experience I've had in over 30 years of skiing all over the country. The place has a to of seating and a really cozy atmosphere with a fire place. They have a cheese and cracker station which is complimentary while you wait (but we didn't need to wait). The menu is very good, and they even have a very extensive kids menu with coloring pages and crayons. Our waitress was very sweet, and kept checking on our kids and giving them more coloring pages. We had the lamb and scallops which were both amazing. They give complimentary white chocolate for dessert, and we ask had the home made ice cream which was amazing. This is the only must-do every trip to Lincoln. The staff is very courteous and strive to make your visit pleasant. The restaurant itself is comfortable, with a nice rustic decor. The fireplace in the lounge heats that whole side of the place. Depending on if you want to eat while the ambient temperature is 78 degrees (we sat right next to the temperature display) will really drive if you find that pleasant, but they do have a section of the restaurant away from the fire. The menu has a great mixture of sturdy fare and some bougie items. Can't pass by the cheese and crackers while you wait (we're glad that returned post-pandemic). Not everything on the menu is always a hit, but there's enough that is that I have no qualms recommending this place to anyone. read more

Just ate at the location in Lincoln, NH over the weekend. Went there about 10 years ago and it was great. This time not sure what happened. I had the prime rib and it was pathetic, as thin as a chicken cutlet, totally not worth it. My husband had the steak tips, ok but very small. So you have the history which is really cool. You are invited to enjoy the huge room with a bar and lounge seating next to a gigantic stone fireplace for a drink or while you wait for a table. So cozy and casual. They offer complimentary cheese and crackers. I felt so comfortable and cozy in the dining room. It is dimly lit and I just loved the atmosphere of the old structure. The menu is relatively expansive, so we went with our waiter's suggestions. Everyone enjoyed what they got including the drinks. If you order an entree, you receive a bread basket with cornbread and biscuits, as well as a little white chocolate at the end. The waiter and bartender were both friendly, knowledgable and engaging.
