If James Bond or some secret agent wanted to put away their trinkets and collections while grabbing some good food and drink from around the globe, then This place has fulfilled what I completely imagined! They have a set menu but if you want to dabble in a little mystery, be sure to have your "visa" ready to try their rotating menu varying from Columbia, to Indian, to China so far as I know. Currently their rotation is set for India, and last for about 90 days. Food servings are tapas style, so small plates, but enough to share with 3-4 people. I came to the Consulate to celebrate my moms Retirement and her 65th birthday !!! She had a blast. We called a week in advanced to make a reservation (highly recommend you do that) .When we arrived we were seated promptly and were shown how to use the we menu as well as offered water. The menu Sn seem overwhelming with the different country/region themed dishes. The waiter was very helpful with my Godmom in assisting her with the different entree choices. This is a tapas style restaurant so expect the portions to be on a smaller scale but packed with flavor. I ordered the burger (typical) and the octopus. They were both really good. My sister had the vegetarian pancit and sorry to say I've had way better. My moms best friend at work is Filipino hers was so much better. This is a review purely for the cocktails (as I did not try the food) - but WOWEE, I was very much impressed with my experience! Came here on a Friday night and I could immediately tell this is a popular place. Make reservations ahead of time if possible, otherwise expect to wait to be seated. The vibe is SUPER interesting - as you may be familiar, the restaurant embodies a global concept, and they rotate the menu every 90 days to represent a different country. Quite a feat and I give them props for keeping this up and doing it so well. My date and I sat at the bar, as we were just meeting for drinks. Our bartender was Clay and he was exceptional - highly skilled at making craft cocktails and never missed a beat in terms of service. I would make brief eye contact with him and he already knew exactly what I needed (aka another drink lol) - that's the mark of a professional in the service industry! I ordered the Caracas 75 (similar to a French 75), which was divine. I also had a sip of my date's whiskey sour, which was perfect in taste and presentation. The food and beverage menu is amazing and the beverage director was our waiter and we were so impressed by Jackson's knowledge and right as we are discussing how much we loved our experience and could not wait to come back, my boyfriend went to the bathroom. He accidentally forgot to flush the toilet after relieving himself and the manager (we assumed as he was wearing a blazer and walking through the restaurant most of the night and was standing by the host stand saying goodbye as people walked out) walked in after and yelled back at him as he was walking away "sir! you forgot to flush!" And then waited as he walked back, very embarrassed due to a complete accident, and flushed it and continued back to the table. He told me of this after we walked out but a literally perfect dining experience, and said it definitely made him feel embarrassed and the fact that he was pointed out to a customer for a mistake was really off-putting. It could be easily rectified by just a flush and I know that is how I reacted if someone made a mistake like that when I was waiting. I would never make a customer, or any individual, for that matter feel embarrassed in that way. But I want to also highlight Jackson and the owners of this restaurant. This is an exceptional, one of a kind experience and the only reason for the 3 stars was due purely to that moment. He truly tainted my boyfriends experience severely after and the response from the owner was rude and condescending. "I was raised with proper etiquette" by insinuating my boyfriend was not due to a ONE TIME MISTAKE has lost my business and I suggest every other person considers that when they go to this restaurant. Where to start....The Consulate is tucked away from the street and you must go to a neat parking deck,bit they will validate your ticket at the time of check-in. The inside has a warm and inviting vibe that is very cozy and intimate. Our server was very prompt and attentive and examined each dish in detail. Each dish was flavorful and I honestly cannot find anything negative to say towards our dinner. My ol' fashion drink was "okay",u grien had the Moroccan sunset whivh I must say was pretty good. We live right next door and have been wanting to try this place for the longest. It was a random Wednesday night fresh from work and we were starved. We decided to walk over to fill our bellies with, from what we've heard as nothing but deliciously good food that changes every three months. This place was such a treat for me. This was my first time in Atlanta and I wanted something to eat and looked online to find this restaurant on Eatery, so I decided to give it a try since it had rave reviews. I love their concept of doing a different cuisine every 90 days I believe, and also having a staple international menu as well as a temporary menu. This month they had cuisines of Iran so I decided to try their kebab. The yogurt sauce it came with really elevated this dish and the beef was spiced so well, not too salty, the meat was nice and juicy as well. I believe it was ground beef. I also had octopus with chilli sauce and that was probably one of the best octopus I've had. I've never seen a dish like this, usually with octopus or squid in a restaurant they just fry it and don't get really inventive with it but this place is very inventive and such a unique concept. When I go to Atlanta again in May I will definitely have to come back! read more

I was visiting town and made a stop at this global tapas place since I'd been before a few years earlier and liked it. As a vegetarian, it is often hard to find enough choices at a tapas place, but the Consulate has me covered with plenty of delicious options with the Venezuelan menu this quarter. My favorite dish was the cheesy arepitas with a tasty sauce. Their mushroom dish was also amazing and full of flavor. I found the black bean empanadas average. While it had a good flavor, it was dry and could have used a sauce or something to elevate it for me. We also had a black bean salad which was simple but perfect! Lastly we tried the veggie burger which is very unique. I wouldn't eat it everyday, but I liked the unique creativity , combination of flavors, and the delicious bread. While we didn't love everything, most of the food was great, and I can't wait to try new items when their menu changes. Service was also excellent overall. Only issue was that we ordered one food item that was forgotten. I'm sure they would have fixed this and brought us the item if we mentioned it, but we just let it go. We had a reservation and waited a few minutes for a table since it is a popular place. The lounge area for waiting was comfortable with big sofas and the overall ambience of the place is awesome and makes it worth the visit. They also came and took are drink orders while we waited which was nice. Drinks can definitely be hit or miss if you don't know what you're getting, but they will explain and give suggestions to steer you in the right direction. Personally I'm not big on fancy handmade cocktails, but I liked what I ordered. It is not a cheap place, but you are paying for high quality food and global flavors here in a unique atmosphere. The vibe is great, drinks are solid, but the food was rather underwhelming. Seaweed salad was unique and a 10/10, that's what saves this a 3rd star. Truffle Bulgogi had not one trace of truffle. Overly salty/sweet, mostly tasted like heavily reduced premade teriyaki. Joloff rice had nice spice but was badly undersalted. Japanese pancakes were just okay, the vegan bacon that came with them tasted purely of liquid smoke. What a great concept, featured menu items highlight a new country every 90 days! We went on Venezuelan theme period. Ambience, decor and service were outstanding, unfortunately the food was lacking and didn't live up to the reviews. Extremely dark causing everyone to use the flashlights on their phones to make the menus readable. (Really dark, check out my photos, and that was with the flash on!) We arrived at 7:00 and the place was packed; always a great sign. Our waiter was very attentive and well informed on all the menu items. We selected a wine from their limited and pricey list of "unheard of labels". I love Albarino with seafood, but instead decided to try the "Treana Blanc Viognier - Marsanne Roussanne" blend; bad mistake!!! It was flabby and tasteless, not sure what the wine maker was going for, but if he hit, he needs to find a new profession. Next came the Empanadas and Pulled Grilled Chicken Arepas for starters. Empanadas were ground beef, onion, etc., and were excellent. What a great start; we thought this was going to set the tone for the evening. Unfortunately, it went downhill from here. The Arepas were big messy pile of COLD shredded chicken between two lifeless pieces of "bread" that was nothing like the authentic pounded moist corn shaped into a cake and fried on a griddle. No spices what so ever. Next, I order the Octopus alla Griglia with the sweet mango chili sauce. Having just come back from the Mediterranean and eaten Octopus all over Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece, I was excited and anxious to give The Consulate's version a try. Not a good move! A single small tentacle over cooked, dried out and nested on top of a sweet sauces that was required to moisten the Octopus enough to eat. Along with the Octopus I ordered the Dry Sautéed Okra with Thai Chili Sauce. The Okra were "OK" but a couple of them were "bad", or badly cooked; it was hard and uneatable. Once again, another sweet sauce, but was advertised as "sweet." At the end of the meal, I'd have to say it wasn't what I was expecting, and the quality of the dishes fell short of the reviews and hopes for The Consulate. read more

I haven't been this impressed with a restaurant in a long time. From the amazing decor and design to the food to the enthusiastic staff, The Consulate is awesome. I only wish I lived closer. We only had a few appetizers, but the composition and the skill from the kitchen were evident in their dishes. We had an Okra dish and a seafood appetizer. Both were delicious and perfectly prepared. I would have loved to try more of the menu. The design is eclectic, but it all works. I got a kick out of the James Bond Themes bathroom, The art on the walls was impressive, make sure to ask your waiter about it. Last but not least, the staff that I interacted with were pleasant, skilled, and truly enjoyed their jobs. What a delightful concept, and an equally gorgeous venue. My group was seated in a semi-private room that looked something like James Bond's private study. We were surrounded by countless books and relics, and the book case peeked out into another lounge area of the restaurant. It was sexy and sophisticated, which was precisely what we were going for that evening. We ordered an array of different dishes, including octopus alla griglia, curry coxinhas, tostones, dry sauteed Thai okra, eggplant cheese dip, and Korean pulled duck confit. I ordered the Tumon Bay Salad, Cuban Picadillo, and yellow cumin rice. The salad was excellent. There was a constant balance between sweet and savory in every bite. The Picadillo was seasoned just a bit too heavily... it was good in the beginning but after a while the flavor became overwhelming. The yellow rice, on the other hand, was not seasoned well at all. I expected something with a bit more flavor, but it was quite bland. I also tried the coxinhas. They were a bit more spicy than I expected, but they were not short on flavor. Very good. I'm not sure if I could have eaten all three though. Definitely a good dish to share. After dinner, the owner came out to chat with us. He told us more about the concept and how everything that went in to the execution of this beautiful venue. The restaurant changes its menu every 90 days. I love this restaurant and we eat here often. The globe parties are fun and I love that you can get unique, global food of a wide variety. My one hang up is the bar. Every time we eat here we wait 20+ minutes for our drinks. I have no idea why. I understand craft cocktails take time to make but waiting 20+ minutes for your first round means people order fewer. Out most recent visit was the second time we received food before drinks. I kept an eye on the bar and noticed several bartenders standing around. It was a slower weeknight and it took 28 minutes to get us two cocktails and a glass of wine. Again, great restaurant but please fix the slow wait for wine and cocktails. I'm truly intrigued by the concept of this restaurant - parts of the menu rotate every 3 months, featuring dishes inspired by different countries, picked by a lucky customer, no less. So, we came here for our anniversary dinner. Decor/theme - LOVE IT!! the restaurant has a diplomat/spy theme with the decor to go along with it. For examples, some walls are decorated with china from different countries, one of the restrooms is decorated with replica firearms on the walls. The purple color upholstery at the round booth is epic!! Service - Impeccable!!! we had a very early dinner so the waiter had time to chit chat (a pleasant one, of course) with us during beginning of dinner service. He was very attentive - case in point: after squeezing the lime juice into my water, I place the lime wedge on my plate. Within a couple of minutes, the waiter removed it swiftly and discretely. We truly enjoy being served by you, Mr. Cat (his name on the receipt LOL). Food - we ordered two dishes from the rotating menu (inspired by Zambia - heck! I can't even pinpoint where it is on the map) - Piri Piri Roasted Cauliflower and Chibombo Village Red Snapper. We also ordered three dishes from the resident menu - Havana Egg Roll, Dry Sauteed Thai Okra, Yutou Box (dessert). Overall, all dishes tasted great. Some of the dishes seem simple, but with minor twitch, it tasted much better than the original version. For example, the Thai chili sauce on the okra - with addition of shallot, pepper, and rosemary.....it suddenly has a more complex flavor. Another example is the Havana Egg Roll...essentially a Cuban sandwich in the form of egg roll skin. Omitting the bun makes it less stuffing and the egg roll skin gives it a nice chewiness. The dish we love the most is the Yutou Box - chewy Taro brownie topped with taro sorbet - all made n-house. The dessert is not overly sweet (a delight to my palate), but the taro is just so aromatic. The texture of the "brownie" is more like a 年糕 (Chinese rice cake) or a firm mochi....it's easily one of the top 3 dessert I've tasted in Atlanta. Let me start by saying I've been to The Consulate several times and have always had excellent food, drinks, and service. It's why I was excited to bring my foodie Meetup group there (and all but two of us were experiencing The Consulate for the first time). However, this time we waited 40 minutes for our table for 6, which I reserved over a month ago. It appears it's because the last large party at what became our table didn't leave soon enough, which isn't completely the restaurant's fault. But it seemed like that long of a wait warranted at least a small comp... 10% off our dinner bills, a free app for the table (or two since we were a larger party)... something small to let us know they were sorry for the wait. We did get verbal apologies, and the cocktail lounge was a comfortable place to wait, but eating at 7pm vs after 7:45pm on a weeknight is a big difference for some people. Our waiter, Chris, did a great job, and we enjoyed our food and drinks, but the way the long wait for the table to be ready was handled put a damper on our otherwise fabulous evening. REPLYING TO DOUG (since his original response was revised and I don't have another way to respond): The kitchen made a mistake and sent out an extra appetizer, which we let them know right away. It was initially taken back because they thought it got sent to the wrong table. They eventually brought it back (now cold) and said we could keep it and wouldn't be charged because it was the kitchen's mistake for making an extra. This is not the same as offering a comp for the delay in seating us. We also could have not said anything about getting an extra appetizer and gotten it for free by simply not telling the wait staff we received something we didn't order. Instead, we chose to be honest. We did have one person in our party that was a little late (a few minutes), but we had a long wait even after that person arrived and our party was complete. There's also no mention of not seating incomplete parties on your website nor did anyone at the restaurant tell me our whole party had to arrive before getting seated when I checked in. On the other hand, you do state on your website that parties should not stay over 2 hours but then chose not to enforce that policy. 5 out of 6 of our party arrived early or on time, and about half of us already bought cocktails while we waited. At one point, our wait had been so long, we almost left to go to another nearby restaurant, but the hostess insisted our table would be ready "soon"... which still took a while. One of the reasons we stayed was because I'd had such good experiences all the other times I'd gone to The Consulate. Not one person in our party was rude about the major delay because we saw it was a busy night, and we were giving everyone the benefit of the doubt. I had actually contacted the rest of my party after your initial reasonable response (which I screenshot and sent to them before your changed it), but now based on your inaccurate revised response, I'm not sure if a return visit would be a good idea. It's disappointing if some of the staff told you only part of the story to make it seem like things were handled differently than they actually were. read more

Love the concept here! Changing menus every 90 days. We even went to the menu changing party where there are raffles for giveaways, and to be the lucky guest that spins the globe. There's a DJ and it's a good time. Most things we had were great. I keep thinking about the Turkish cheesecake. So different but so good! Go with friends... order a ton of food and enjoy! We were excited for our reservation on Saturday. We arrived and were promptly seated. The service was rightly paced and food was good. All in all seemed like a great overall experience until the end. Our waiter approached us after the entrees wee cleared. We had every intention of each ordering a dessert, however before we could get our order out he said oh I have bad news as stated in your reservation confirmation you only have two hours here so your time is up. I said so I can't order dessert, and I also noted that we had 5:45 reservations and it was 7:30. We still had 15 Minutes if they were counting. He then went back to the front desk and said oh you have 10 minute left so we can quickly give him our dessert orders. I was appalled.. we certainly all had every course of the meal and were spending a good amount. I have never been put on a timer for a meal. I asked to speak with a manger. The head service lead came over comped our desserts and explained that our server was a bit "direct" in his communication with us. While I appreciated the gesture I can not even believe that "before" the two hour mark you begin to tell guests that they can not even order dessert since their time Is up. In all our years in dining in amazing restaurants I have never been out on a time clock and one this time that was "before" our allotted time was up. For a meal that is $300 ++ I can not believe we were put in the position to exit our table even before the "two hour" time limit was up. I would look at your communication with guests and truly determine when it is appropriate to ask guests to leave a table. I can understand 30-45 Min after the 2 hours but 10 minutes before that is ridiculous. read more

Although I expected there to be some service delays due to Covid related staffing issues, the service we got from our server was down right sub par. The server forgot our appetizer and brought items to table intermittently. My wife was half-way though eating her dinner before I even got mine. The service was slow (expected) but the server was just down right absent minded. The food was over cooked and lacked flavor. Although we told them it was our anniversary, they did nothing to make it special. No acknowledgment whatsoever. My only positive has to be the restaurant layout and decor which was interesting. The menu was so unique and everything we ordered was a smash hit. The country the menu was based on was the Ukraine. We got the international cheese board and deruny trio (Ukraine) to start. Both were delicious! My partner tried a Japanese beer and I had a dirty martini, which was fabulous! For the main course we had the Poltava Pepper (Ukraine) and the Nuuk Chops (Greenland). I came to The Consulate through a recommendation from a friend telling me about the intriguing concept of a restaurant that changes its menu every three-months. If you do not know already, the owner and his wife randomly pick a country on the globe every three-months and feature special items from that country on their menu. While I cannot make a recommendations because the menu changes so frequently, everything they serve they do it to perfection, and as other reviews have mentioned the service there is amazing and the server will make sure that you are satisfied. The Consulate has such a welcoming atmosphere that the owner takes the time to legitimately know how your experience is going. Because we loved the food so much he even brought his wife/chef out to talk to us about the food and how she started the restaurant. If you are not there for dinner then the Consulate is also amazing for high end cocktails that are expertly made and you can order and sit at the bar. We ordered the grass fed burger, vegetarian burger, octopus, and potatoes from their traditional menu. My favorite was the octopus. It was perfectly grilled and super soft. The cocktails were very well made and it looked like they had something for everyone. I was craving something sweet and went with the Tonga. The super sweet cocktail masked the alcohol and I almost felt like I was drinking a toffee cake. The only reason I couldn't give this a perfect dining experience was because the cocktails did take awhile to make. Although the menu states it takes about 20 minutes per a cocktail, it's quiet a while to wait for a drink to arrive. Our group ended up feeling rushed to quickly put in their cocktail orders before our waiter stepped away because we knew it would be another 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive. The staff was friendly and I enjoyed talking to the bartenders while waiting for our group, but I felt like the host could have been more welcoming. She didn't really smile and almost looked flustered when gathering our menus to have us seated. I would go back. The dining experience was interesting enough. I don't know if I would go to just grab a drink since it takes a while to order one. read more

This place is a very unique and brilliant culinary experience. The menu is carefully crafted to include a range of flavors yet there is something for everyone. During my visit in Sept 2019 the rotating menu was on Turkey. I had a few items off the standing menu and loved every single thing. Hands down the best Paella in life. The dessert was a homemade taro brownie and homemade taro ice cream both delicious! I loved this place and would return to taste another menu! The Consolate in Midtown Atlanta. Service was great, cool vibe atmosphere. The menu is tapas inspired. They do a different country every month but keep staple items from all over as well. This month it was Venezuela, but I went a different route. I started with a Cuban sandwich eggroll served with a mojo cilantro crema and pickles. Then took a ride to Ethiopia for some earthy spice flavored lamb tips with suateed onions and peppers and a side of rice. Finished off with a Japanese espresso stout! read more

Interesting concept. Rotating menu based on what is supposedly a random spin of a globe. Went when it was Venezuelan cuisine and had a pleasant time during the meal. One bummer was waiting close to an hour after being told we'd be seated in 20 minutes. After checking back with the host we were promptly seated but seemed like they forgot about us. Big fan of the pork belly arepa and the short rib. Flavor was quite similar across both and enjoyed the mix of sweet and savory. Octopus was interesting. Sauce has a kick to it and was a little too sweet for my liking. Wasn't a fan of the mango salad. Not sure why it's always on the menu. read more

Parking is a bit of a headache. But the vibe of the restaurant is lovely. The concept of spinning the globe is such a cool way to keep the menu interesting. I've enjoyed multiple entree options and the cocktails are always on point. read more

I chose this restaurant for a birthday celebration and it is now officially my favorite restaurant in Atlanta! The food was amazing with lots of different options that worked for all the dietary restrictions in my group. The decor is phenomenal and truly takes you out of Atlanta and creates its own unique atmosphere to enjoy. The best part of the meal was absolutely due to service though. Cecelia went out of her way to answer all of our questions and make recommendations that fit everyone's taste, plus took photos of us in all the best spots so we could get the best experience possible. Just absolutely Amazing. From decor to the food, it felt like you are dining at a different place. Loved every bit of it. They also offer 2hr free parking validation so you will have plenty of time to eat and do a photoshoot at the same time. Most definitely will come back for seconds. read more

My date and I had a beautiful night at The Consolate. We arrived 15 minutes prior to our reservation and did have to wait about 15 minutes past our reservation for our table to be ready. The hostess offered us complementary champagne during our wait - that was very nice. The waiting area/lounge area was eclectic, and the entire restaurant was filled with art, books, vintage items, and other travel themed decor. Once we arrived at our table, we were greeted by our waitress Cherry. My date ordered a red wine immediately, and Cherry helped me find a great sweet drink. (The Morrocan Sunset was amazing, but be careful with it. ) The country was Mexico, and I was torn between the Birra Short Rib Tacos and Burria Ramen. We decided to get the tacos as a starter to share - I am glad we did because I would have been disappointed by the portion for my main. The ramen was so flavorful and delicious. My date had the Bulgogi and enjoyed that, too. We opted not to have dessert there, and sadly, I forgot to visit the restrooms, so I can't comment on either. Overall, the ambiance, truly delicious food, and great service sets this place apart from other dining experiences in Atlanta. My date and I can't wait to return. read more
