Really enjoyed our dining experience at The Consulate! The Consulate has a lively, yet intimate environment. Service was great - our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and willing to provide recommendations based on our pallets. Now for the main event - the food. We got the scallops, lollipop lamb, pork belly, and the skewer plate. All were delicious and provided totally different taste profiles. Very glad we went here! Never been to The Consulate before, and we stopped by right before our flight right out of Atlanta. Although the place was busy, we were still quickly seated. Our server was great! Very polite and efficient. The food was next level. We tried the sea bass, and it was easily the best we had ever eaten. My girlfriends and I had dinner here last night. It was "globe night" where someone lucky from the crowd gets to spin the globe to determine what the menu will change to in 90 days. Such a neat concept. The menu is currently in China and we had 2 appetizers and 3 entree's to share with each other. The jellyfish salad was different but light and good. The shrimp potstickers were amazing. I went with a "resident entree" for my dinner, the duck. It was great and my friends loved it. My other friend went with the ribs and we also had the pork belly. The price of white rice was a little high and the wait staff was not on the same page with the bar staff when it came to what was available to order for drinks and what was left. Overall, the ambiance was good and the food was amazing. The owner will come and speak to each table and answer any questions you may have. Based on our first impression, I'd have given this place a one star. I'm a stickler for time, and we arrived at our reservation time and a table was not available. We could not get an estimate time for seating which was disconcerting. The hostess was clueless. We were told we could wait in the lounge area and would be served cocktails there until our table was ready. The lounge area was comfy but we were never waited on or acknowledged. My date had to go to the bar to get drinks while we waited. We observed as wait staff seemed to wander aimlessly about, several looking our way but not attending to us. Several stood at the hostess station and chatted. A long 45 minutes after our reservation time we finally were seated. The place is small but did not look crowded when we arrived. So, first impression, not impressed. The waitress was nice enough, however spoke low, she was hard to hear. Seating was close, not intimate at all unless you're lucky enough to get a curve seated booth. The food was the only saving grace. Served tapas style and appropriately sized for sharing but I wouldn't call them generous. We were there during a Moroccan menu. The menu changes by area every 90 days. We had Baba Ganoush, Korean Pulled Duck Confit, Duck Fat Fingerling Potatoes and Grilled Taza Spice Rubbed Lamb Chops. All the food was good. The duck confit could have used another hour or so of cook time but had great flavor. The fingerling potatoes were awesome. I was worried the lamb chops would be too spicy but they were not at all, more of a sweet spice. They were about what you would consider "lollipop" size and four to an order. As a side note, this place is hard to find! Especially if you are taking an Uber!! Shoot for the Marta station, there's one across the street from the restaurant entrance. Wow! Is this a destination! While parking here is a little confusing, this place is worth the effort. We did not have a reservation, but were lucky to get a gorgeous booth inside. When we visited, the rotating menu was inspired by the Philippines. Our drinks were fantastic. Well crafted and went down a little too easy. We had the appetizer sampler which was almost perfect. The skewers varied in how good the meat was. For entrees we had the adobo chicken, the lamb, and the sea bass. All were winners. It's been said before, but I will say it again... The Consulate is amazing. We dined there with another couple on a Friday night and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. To be honest, I hadn't heard of this place until recently. It just hadn't made it to my radar somehow which is surprising as unique and delicious it is. The concept is genius. They offer a "visa" menu that rotates every 90 days. Each visa menu features cuisine from a different country. They also have a "resident" menu that features mainstays as well as some of the favorites from previous visa menus. One of my favorite things to say about nicer ATL restaurants is that they REALLY have to stand out to bring me back a second time. With all the new places opening day in and day out, there are just too many to try to go back to the same place again and again. This is why The Consulate gets it right with their concept. They are giving the dinner something to look forward to with the promise of a new menu every 90 days. When we went, the visa menu featured items from China. The dishes are tapas style, which gave us the opportunity to try multiple things. We ordered a black fungi salad and vegetable dumplings from the China menu and an eggplant stack sandwich (The Expat), and brussel sprouts from the resident menu. Everything was amazing and well presented. I definitely appreciate the numerous vegetarian options, too. A lot of ATL restaurants can only build you a plate using sides so it is refreshing to have multiple options! The cocktails we ordered were delicious but they took forever to come out. One person in our party ordered a glass of wine and even that took a long time to come out. We actually received some of our food before our drinks. This is my only negative comment. The drink service needs to improve. I would have ordered a second cocktail but I didn't want to get it after all of my food was gone so I decided not to. Other than that, the service was good. Our server took time to go over their concept and one of the owners stopped by to say hello. Last but not least, the interior of this place is amazing. It reminds me of a 1940's train car / speak easy. The lighting, the art, and the seating are all globally inspired and imaginative. If indoor smoking was legal I would have definitely wanted to light up a cigar. Make sure you check out the awesome bathrooms, too. No detail left undone! EVERYONE should have a dining experience similar to the one I've had at The Consulate. (I'm eating here tonight actually, which is why I thought to leave reviews for the last two times I visited.) Every 3 months, the "Visa" portion of their menu features a new country. Both times I visited, they were "in Colombia". Next was India, and I believe they're now on China. The process of how they choose the country is pretty interesting too, so I've been told. My experience the first time: Phenomenal My experience the second time: Not the best (However, my first experience greatly outweighed many that I've had at other restaurants. Good enough to earn them 5 stars from me.) First visit: this was back in February, so I can't remember much about the waiter. But I do know he was very knowledgeable of the menu and friendly. The food and drinks were authentic, well-prepared and delicious; scores huge in my book. Favorite drink is La Bandera, and you can tell from the food that the chefs really know what they're doing back there. The good quality is ALWAYS appreciated. Everything came out in a reasonable time and was timed perfectly with each course. Also, the decor and overall vibe of the restaurant is very cool! My only gripe comes from the second time I visited. Bar service was ridiculously slow (disappointing bc I was really looking fwd to the drinks ), and it took around 45/50 minutes for my date and I to receive the first round. We were about halfway done with our entrées when we got them, and we'd each had appetizers. However, our server was super sweet from the beginning, and she did give us an early heads up that they were down a bartender that evening. I could see even she was frustrated with how long the drinks were taking to arrive. Also, I'd ordered the fried curry balls and they were very hard to bite into (much different from the first time I ordered them when they were made perfectly). I felt kind of bad because I'd raved so much about it to my date, and I think (aside from the ambiance) he wasn't very impressed. He did like the drink though. ‍ Despite how the second visit went, I think it's safe to say I'll be visiting more times in the future. The food, the staff, and the atmosphere are all excellent. Paying $14 for still water and finding out after get the check... is not. The Consulate is a special place indeed, and living just a few blocks away, I thought I would drop by at least a time or three for every rotating menu. I had never been concerned about value at this place before. Food items are generally between ten and fifty bucks and are often appropriate for sharing. Beverages are expertly crafted and served by attentive, qualified, friendly bartenders and servers. Well, food prices have risen around town, including incremental increases on the Consolate menu. This reflects business realities. It wasn't raising a concern until the most recent visit. Consolation is a bit of a special occasion. The tab, a bit over $200, wasn't a surprise on its own. We had made it that high before. But on this particular night, we had deliberately ordered less. Fewer drinks, less food. What happened? The rise in prices combined with charging for water had made up for our attempts to be frugal. Funny how this little fact about the water breaks the value proposition. It's not that I won't go back. But I hesitate to recommend the Consolate now. The water thing just feels disingenuous, and I can't endorse this practice or send someone in good conscience. If I do recommend Consolate, I specifically mention the water thing. And I haven't been back. I'm sure I will. And geez, I'll be tempted to smuggle some water in. Such a bummer. read more

The Consulate is another well-kept secret of Midtown that I simply adore. Nestled behind the 10th street Marta station/Fed Reserve building, this restaurant knocked my socks off after stumbling into it on a whim. The ambiance is amazing - I felt like I was stepping into an explorer's study... I was getting major library vibes in the best way possible. I've been a few times now for cocktails and finally grabbed dinner with a friend - we were able to be seated right away... on a Saturday night... during Super Bowl weekend in ATL... I'm telling you, a best kept secret! The cocktails are interesting and I love perusing the menu to see crafty ingredients that I'd never venture to put together myself. My friend and I went for the small plates - a few ordered off the resident and a few off rotating menu - the concept changes each quarter. We got a Zambian chicken cutlet which exceeded all expectations from that menu. We also ordered the Char Siu BBQ pork, which was very good as well for something different, but we enjoyed the other protein better. The other star of our order were the duck fat fingerling potatoes... ohhh emmm geee these were finger licking delicious. We also wanted to try the Thai okra and put in an order for it, however it never came out... we definitely had had our fill, though, so we were secretly okay with that turn of events and I'll definitely be back to try them again. All in all, such a great concept with the quality to back it up. Sharing 3ish plates between 2 people and a cocktail can get pricey at other small plates places, but I was actually very happy and surprised with the value of this meal! The experience at The Consulate was beautiful from start to finish. The house was friendly and inviting, took our temperatures contact list and then status at our dinner table. Our service with Mariah was excellent she highlighted cocktails that she thought were best and gave us perfect recommendations based on our pallets. Met a group of friends here for an early birthday dinner... Our server, Johnathan, was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. He was also very patient as I mulled over the selections - so many options! For cocktails, I opted for the El Navagador. Gin is never my first liquor of choice unless it's a part of what appears to be a tasty cocktail and this was indeed tasty! Speaking of which, the bartender was very serious about his craft, mocking me for my request for a stirrer (only because a friend asked) and granting me a full straw instead since stirrers aren't kept onsite... despite the banter, he made excellent drinks. :-) We visited during the Columbia visa offering. Let's start with the things that shined: Eggplant cheese dip, coxinhas, The Diplomat, and Thai okra. We were all skeptical about the cheese dip but it was very much a pleasant surprise. The coxinhas were very full of flavor and packed just the right amount of spice. The Diplomat was just downright a really good burger. My friend ordered it and she was nice enough to offer me a morsel of beef patty along with remnants of mushroom and gouda... that small bit was delish so I can only imagine how it was in real life. I'm typically not an okra fan but I sampled some from another friend's plate... the okra wasn't slimy and paired well with the sweet chili sauce. The rest of our food wasn't bad by no means but it wasn't overly mind blowing either - duck confit, Brussels sprouts, duck fat fingerling potatoes, Colombian empanadas. The duck confit would've been a star but I felt like it was overpowered by the Korean BBQ sauce... paired with with dried cranberries, it was a tad bit too sweet but still good. The beef empanadas were flavorful but the mushroom variety was lacking some umph - same for the brussel sprouts. The Potatoes definitely could've been a tad bit crispier. I love it there! The theme of the restaurant is so gorgeous and unique! I had my birthday dinner here back in February and was accommodated in the private dining room area with 10 of my friends. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The tapas served were all delicious and the drinks were great.
