The empanada tasted like an egg roll. The paella tasted like fried rice. (There was no saffron and it was very greasy. ) When they change the featured country to China they will need to make very few changes to the menu. Not sure if that is their business model. Drinks were nice, service was better than normal midtown places and the atmosphere was lovely. Empanadas are often fried in Latin American countries but very very rarely in Spain. I went here with a couple of friends last Friday and it was a great experience. Other reviews have covered their unique concept so I won't belabor that again, but I will confirm that their execution is excellent on both food and drink. Our waiter displayed a deeper knowledge of the menu, both food and cocktails, than I have ever experienced before. The cocktail options include new twists on old standards and I enjoyed both that I tried, and all of the tapas options we tried were great. To top it off, the décor is quirky yet cozy and fits perfectly with the concept. I will say that we went early (6:15) and the wait times increased as seats filled up, so as others have noted it's best to plan for a leisurely stay on weekend nights. read more

Love this spot. It's definitely unique with their rotating menu. I popped in with a friend on a rainy night looking for a light bite. I ordered a stuffed bell pepper which was delicious and was the fix I needed. I also got the coconut ginger sorbet. If you have room for it, definitely try this. It's light, has a nice kick from the ginger and it's not coconut-y at all, just has flakes. The one odd part of our experience was that our server was short with us and animated with the couple seated next to us. Sorry we wanted a light bite dude. I plan to go back to try the new menu and hoping I don't get seated at one of his tables. Other than that, nice ambiance and decor. This would be a great date night spot. :) read more

I cannot put my finger on what element of the design makes me feel so warm, homey, and transported at the same time. It is there, though - go be whisked away, not just to the latest location of their global tour of a rotating menu, but back to a time when spies shared classy cocktails in posh clandestine venues. Im so thoroughly impressed that I'm doing my review while sitting in the restaurant waiting on my check. I came here with a couple friends upon a homegirls recommendation. We walked In to an amazing scenery. It was definitely a date spot but we stayed anyway because the smell was serious. I ordered the lamb tibs and curry coxinhas. I can't quite think of a way to describe how awesome it was yet but I'll come up with a description later. I also had the navigator which was the best Bombay sapphire featured gin and tonic I've ever had. Service was dope too. I'm putting this spot on my date list to come back to. We had a delicious dinner at The Consulate last night. We love to share dishes, and the menu really supports this. They change their menu every 90 days, so we happened to his the last day of Russia. Our waiter, Wesley, was delightful. He was friendly and personable and gave us great suggestions for both food and drink. The decor was wonderful. Our booth was high-sided and super comfortable, and the art is really fun. We're looking forward to returning again soon to explore their new menu. The focus, I believe, is Guam, with lots of tropical notes. read more

My husband and I visited The Consulate for the first time yesterday and loved it! The ambiance is perfect - great lighting, color choices, eclectic décor, cozy layout of the various spaces. They have a library-like cozy space for guests who are waiting to be seated; and they have a cool private party space in the back. The food was delicious! We loved the okra, Yuca fries, and Brazilian salad with hearts of palm. The owners and lead bartender are so much fun and welcoming. They made the effort to come out and meet us and tell us all about the restaurant. Definitely try this place out if you haven't already! read more

This is such a quaint and eclectic restaurant! Loved the decor and loved the ambiance. Our wait person was phenomenal! We opted for all vegetarian tapas. From the eggplant, to the kale, okra with chili sauce, stuffed bell pepper and the Brussel sprouts. All delicious, especially the eggplant and the okra. Our least favorite was the Brussel sprouts. Would have been a true 5 star had it been a crispy version with a tad more seasoning. All together, it turned out to be a fun evening at this restaurant that came recommended by a friend. We only stopped in for a cocktail before hitting the Warhol exhibit at The High Museum. This place is so cool inside that it made me want to go home and redecorate!!! My friend was walking past and immediately texted me asking if I knew about it. Such unassuming building and hidden behind the MARTA train station there on 10th behind the Federal Reserve Bank. I had to google it. We had been planning to grab a bite and decided this was going to be the spot. I am glad we went, the decor is incredible, there is nary a piece of wall that was not decorated. The ambience is super chill, laid back with a "James Bond" would hangout here flair. The large round booth seating is calling for a party. COOOMEEE SEAT ON MY PLUSHNESSSSSSS We had just a few items (Octopus that was super non rubbery), the duck confit, and a few other things. I cannot eat Kale, so the chef was kind enough to alter the salad and gave me some greens that my stomach can actually break down. The yucca fritters were not my favorite. There is just not much happening with the chimichurri like aioli which was too liquid to stick to the yucca. They said that menu is changed every 90 days and they plan it upon different cuisines of the world. Planning my Bday there. Brunch is coming in spring! read more

This space has undergone an amazing transformation. What was once a cheesy coffee shop is now a beautiful, dark, cozy, luxe space. Very cool ambiance. Since I work in the same building, a friend and I popped in for a drink and a snack after a day on the job. The drinks were good, and the appetizer (coxhinas) were also tasty and fairly authentic tasting. Two thumbs up for service. The reason I won't give a full five stars though is that I think a lot of the food is pretty pricey for the portion size. I'm also not sure about the "global dim sum" idea they're pushing...to me, dim sum means cheap tasty exotic things on a cart...not overpriced sandwiches. Still, I think Consulate has a lot going for it and I hope it sticks around long enough until winter when it will be super cozy on cold nights. The interior style of The Consulate is easily my favorite in all of Atlanta. If Wes Anderson ever designed the interior of a bar, it would look just like The Consulate. Lots of eclectic art that somehow doesn't look random, but instead all goes together. Though I haven't had any of their food, they apparently change their menu every few months to showcase a certain country or region of the world (Brazil, Denmark,etc). What I have had are a couple of excellent cocktails made with painstaking effort by some great mixologists. Generally I think that term is misused, but these guys go far beyond the bartender name. Though I have never seen it busy here, I think word will get around and this will be the go-to place in a few months. It is near the midtown MARTA station and is definitely not easy to find. Despite living in the area and taking MARTA a bunch, I never had just stumbled across this place. I'm really looking forward to trying the food and will update my review when I do. read more

We had a REALLY good time on our birthday date here. Glad we gave it a try, despite it not being one of the "hottest newest most famous" items in the city. Consulate is kind of tucked away and not obvious to find, but it's super convenient with great location and plenty of (validated) free parking. We were pleasantly surprized with cute interesting decor, and how intimate the place felt, despite not being small. The service was good, even though we changed a few waiters on the team before meeting our actual server. The cocktails were really diverse and good (try the Old Fashioned), and the wine list was interesting and diverse (lots of stuff to try by the glass). Menu is sure to please anyone. It looks like they have a permanent side of the menu (International) with a great variety of delicious tapas from all over (from plain Shepherds Pie to coxinhas and mussels). Then, they feature a country-specific side of the menu, which changes every 3 months. I love being able to count on finding the old faves (truffle yucca fries, yo! these things are to die for), but also always having something new and exciting to experience at a familiar place. Overall, LOVED it and will definitely go back. Give it a chance! read more

The flavor!!! Oh so much flavor!!! Delish! Love the concept of this restaurant. Very cute. The cuisine type changes seasonally which is really cool. I had the sea bass over cous cous and the mushrooms. Both were packed with flavor. Strong and delicious artisanal drinks. One of the owners even came over and introduced himself. I would have given 5 stars but our server just seemed completely disinterested in our group. He wasn't rude, just not very involved and definitely didn't add to our experience. Had impromptu dinner here last night and was blown away. Our server, Jonathan, was so good, so sweet, attentive, just a pleasure. Food was incredible. We had the Rueben egg rolls, steamed wontons, beef stroganoff (AMAZING!!!) and the steak dinner. They change their menu every 90 days to provide dishes from different parts of the world. Yesterday we went to Russia! April they are changing it to Guam. I think that's such a great concept! Makes me want to go back just to see what will be on their menu. The interior is beautifully decorated. There's this study area with books, coffee table and a fireplace. It feels very comfortable and makes you want to stay and hang out. Location is perfect (for us living across the street). It's right at a MARTA station. Great place to grab a dinner and/or drinks before or after hopping on the train. Great ambiance! Love the decor, great food, nice staff/service. It's a little hidden and somewhat hard to find, but once you're here, you're in a whole new world. We loved the scallops the most (perfection!) but also enjoyed the Thai okra, pork belly, and the octopus. The open faced flank steak sandwich was interesting too, perfectly medium and good flavor, especially the caramelized onions. The menu changes often, so hopefully these are here when you come. (I would skip the yucca fries tho! They had a good dipping sauce but were just ok!) Had bday dessert here - tiramisu! - and it too was awesome. This doesn't get 5 stars because of the small wine selection, but I would definitely recommend..and be back! read more

Looked up this place at Yelp and came for dinner. Love the ambient. Waiter was very knowledgeable and explained how they change their menu by focusing on different countries. We ordered the BBQ Pork (Hong Kong Style). The meat was tender and has just the right amount of char. Also tried the fish (too bad I forget the name of the dish.) Experiences are everything to me, I love to find places that are unknown to myself and peers. I came across this gem via a peer of great class. The consulate did not let me down on Valentine's Day, which is restaurants hell night here in Atlanta. One complaint, and to be honest it wasn't soooo bad, but just one less pinch of salt would do the food more justice. Nor was I a fan of the Korean pulled chicken. Every other dish was a winner. First, the menu was stained with food and looked as if quite a few people had sat on it - not the first impression I'd want if this were my restaurant. For cocktails - my friend had the El Navegador and I had a Mojini's Nectar. Both were delicious. For starters we ordered Aloo tikki Patties, Curry Coxinhas and the Dry Sauteed Thai Okra. The patties were dry and nondescript and the coxinhas were just okay. The Thai okra was delicious. I ordered a glass of carmenere, but they were out. My friend ordered a draft beer (they only serve one), but it was broken. Service was just okay. All in all, it was a disappointing experience and given the number of amazing restaurants in ATL, there's no need for me to return. read more

We had an awesome time tonight with our large group of 13. The staff were so kind and courteous. This place is all about global cuisine. Every ninety days they focus their menu on a particular country that was chosen at random on a spinning globe! This time it was all about Spain. I ordered a gin cocktail that was garnished with fresh flowers, which was amazing. For appetizers we had the Havana egg rolls and the Patatas Bravas(potato chunks covered in this delicious cheese sauce) both very good. Next we had the Nshima Patties and the Mar I Muntanya Al Xocolata (land and sea or in other words chicken and prawn). Very good but I wish the chicken had been served with something to accompany all the sauce that was around the dish. Lastly, for dessert the Yùtou Box and Housemade Coconut Pistachio Cardamom Sorbet. The desserts were my favorite. I really loved the uniqueness of the Yutou box which was a brownie, sorbet, whipped cream and pretzel sticks. I was happy that you could actually taste the cardamom flavor in the sorbet. Overall a really neat restaurant that puts a lot of thought into everything they do. read more

And it's rare that I get to a restaurant frequently, but I only have so many days to enjoy the current flavors. The tour during my visit was to Morocco. And every dish had flavor. The drinks were great too. All the plates are tapas, so it's hard to not find something on this menu. This seems like a great spot for a date. I will say this...
