Request was made because I am a student pilot and being able to view the runway (L22) was my ideal dinner location. When we arrived, we were told that the dining hall side was reserved even though we saw a table for 2 that was on the airstrip side but we were put into the loud music / DJ side with no view. Hostess was rude, uncaring, and didn't care that I was a pilot. Server was OK, our drinks were good. But after she took the order, the food was nothing to write home about. Chicken cutlet was bland and had no taste. Salad was over dressed. Burger was tiny and lacked any flavor. Fries were huge but tasted institutionalized. For the $120 tab, very poor value. I let the hostess know that I was a party of one and was given the choice of bar, high top, or table. I chose a high top. Several minutes went by, and no one approached to hand me a menu or bring water. I finally flagged down the hostess who sat me and let her know that my server hadn't come by yet. She then asks me if I simply walked in and sat myself down, or if someone had checked me in. I told her I did check in--and then she realizes she was the one who checked me in. I got a menu and plate, and she took my drink order. The drink took a little longer than usual to come out, but at this point my expectations were pretty low, which became a self-fulfilling prophecy. As I sat there sipping my cocktail, nobody came by to take my order. Hmmm...a couple of servers even walked by my table in the meantime, including the person who checked me in. Clearly, the menu was still on my table. Crickets. By the time I finished my drink, there was still no one who took my order. It didn't seem that busy, and it didn't look like food was flowing out of the kitchen that much either. In fact, some of the staff were milling around by the kitchen. Wow, what a great place. We sat at the bar and watched a couple of planes come in and land in front of the building with their passengers and pilots coming in for dinner and/or beverages. The drinks were fantastic, service was awesome, and the place has all the charm of a retro 50's spot. There were so many families there- a little something for everyone. Luckily my friend found this spot when researching our stay in Joshua Tree and we're very happy she picked it! We made a later reservation at 8:30pm for 4 people since we had a filled afternoon. This is a super cool old school restaurant right on an active airport! You are really transported back in time when you enter the building. The food and drinks were all very tasty and filled with tons of flavor. We sat right in front of the live band which was fun, not our style of music but it will still have you ready to get up and dance! It was a little tough to get the attention of the waiter sometimes, but mostly because we were near the back and other tables were tightly packed next to us. I shared the following: -crispy chicken lettuce wraps ($14): sambal, mayo, pickles, herbs -The Copper Room grilled steak ($39): 8oz flannery farms hangar, garlic ginger broccolini -french fries ($9): ketchup & yuzu kosho mayo While everything tasted fine, nothing was outstanding. I found the crispy chicken in the lettuce wrap to be, well, interesting. They're much like popcorn chicken sans the seasoning. The wraps just lacked a whole lot of flavor. 1960-70's cool vibe. Live music. Full crowd. On a weeknight. And the food is good. Very good. The Copper Room is a Joshua Tree Institution and it's clear that it's gone through a couple iterations. The current version is a combination cool bar, dining room and live music venue all in one. The directions take you off road and before you know it you are in a packed parking lot and a throwback building to a different era. The mixed wallpaper and light fixture give a glimpse into the good times that have been had and while I expect a killer drink menu (with a completely packed bar) I did not expect a top notch dinner menu with Asian-inspired dishes. We sampled a few appetizers and the spring rolls and the Vietnamese cabbage salad tasted fresh, crispy and full of flavor. The entrees continued the flavor parade with both the skirt steak and the lamb chop utilizing East Asian spices that brought out the meat quality and tenderness. All in all, it was an epic dinner to start a weekend to remember (a segment of the crowd were young, LA, and well to do) and it's clear that the Copper Room is one of Joshua Tree's gems. I went to the Copper Room last night for dinner and the host was kind enough to find us a table despite the place being packed and buzzing with activity. We immediately ordered to Franciszkaner beers. It's always nice to see a place that serves genuine German beer. We started off with the spring rolls and the cucumber salad. The spring rolls were so incredibly fresh, crunchy, and divine. The sauces were perfect. My only complaint is that the spring rolls were so absolutely stuffed to the gills that they fell apart while you were eating them. But it didn't matter as my grubby paws picked up whatever I could find and shoved it into my mouth. The cucumber salad was absolutely delightful. I think they marinated the cucumbers and some sort of chili crisp or balsamic vinegar mix, incredibly fresh and crunchy with just the right amount of spice. We both ordered the shrimp and grits and they came out on a cast-iron pan. The shrimp was almost blackened and amazingly, not rubbery despite that. They had a firm al dente texture and paired well with the pillowy grits, which had just the right amount of butter and salt. They weren't too watery. They weren't too thick. The grits were absolutely perfect. We closed with the Basque cheesecake. I had no idea what to expect but oh my God. It was so good, I didn't want to eat it. I ended up shaving thin slices off of it with my spoon so that it would last longer. In closing, Phil Bronco, the head chef, is an extraordinarily talent and sooner or later somebody big is gonna figure that out and steal him from us. The chefs in their kitchen are next level. They care about their art. If you're looking for a place for a classy date, to the Copper Room. It's intimate yet extraordinarily social and their staff is great. read more

We arrived about 10 minutes late for our reservation, and I'll admit I was a little caught off guard when the hostess greeted us with, "How can I help you?"--not exactly the warm welcome I was expecting. I ordered the peanut noodle dish with tofu. The dish was pretty salty and tofu was tough. $23.00 was a bit steep for this dish. The $16 happy hour hamburger was just so so with $10 French fries. And there is a 4% restaurant charge to help pay for staff's healthcare and wages. That charge should be the incurred by the owners who hired the staff. If Don Draper stumbled into a bar circa 1967, and the doors were locked tight until now, the end result would be the Copper Room. This is a perfectly-preserved time capsule of a bar / restaurant, overlooking a tiny regional airport and nearby mountains. We were so fortunate to find it thanks to some locals we met -- and you'll be lucky to get a spot at the bar for sunset. We stumbled in here just before 5 pm after a long day of hiking in Joshua Tree. While we made a reservation en route, seating options were ample. The four of us chose a spot at the bar so we could watch the bartenders craft cocktails into a glasses that looked straight out of a retro movie. Since it was happy hour, I ordered The Gold Rush (wildflower honey, lemon juice, and bourbon -- $10) and settled in to watch the sun descend below the mountains and the booths fill up with diners, who were a mix of JT hipsters and low-key families. We stayed for two cocktails and some light bites off the HH menu (the sesame long beans, which were drizzled with a sesame and soy dressing, and the vegetarian spring rolls). Not sure if it was the post-hike hunger or the pre-dinner cocktails, but we devoured each dish. We also popped outside to their runway-adjacent back patio to watch the sun set behind the mountains, before dipping back inside to finish our meal. By the time we left around 7 pm on a Friday, the place was packed with people waiting to get in.
