Every time I've been there I've had a relaxing time. The food is good, the live music is great and the billiards there makes it one of the best places New Town to bring some buds over to chill while playing a game of pool. I love this place. The menu is always interesting with creative daily specials as well as standard bar fare, except here it's a little bit more interesting and innovative than your run of the mill bar and grill. The staff is friendly and attentive. Beer selection is terrific and believe it or not, some of the best desserts I've had in Williamsburg have come from the kitchen here. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed. It works both for a date night and a hangout night with your friends. If you're lucky, you will be there on a night when there's music on the patio. If you want to play pool, in a league or with friends, this is probably the only place in WBG to do so. Prices for tables are reasonable, and they'll take all kinds. Last visit it seems they took the snooker table out, so any UK folks, sorry. Food wise, I agree with the existing comments. Good food for a pool-hall and bar. Menu doesn't change often, and specials can he hit or miss. The beer selection is decent -- usually some local brews on tap (St. Georges from Hampton) and the usual American domestic, and a large selection in bottles. My only complaint is that unless you're outside, it is a smoky pool hall. That's the my only big detraction from the Corner Pocket. But when the weather is nice, their outdoor area is the place to be. Great people watching in New Town! read more

I give this place only 3 stars because the first time I was there I was so pleasantly surprised that my food was awesome! I had the Smoked Turkey and Brie sandwich and the onion ring tower. Such a delicious sandwich coming from a pool hall!! Then I went back a few weeks later and ordered the Grilled Veggie Wrap. It was gross! It was supposed to have grilled vegetables with a black olive tapenade and goat cheese on a whole wheat wrap. It contained NONE of that! What I got was a pound of melted American cheese and a few pieces of steamed frozen vegetables in a wrap. I only ate a quarter of it and told our waitress that I was really disappointed and was offered a free dessert. No thanks. I might go back for drinks and just bar food next time. read more

I don't know about you, but I don't expect much in terms of cuisine from a billiards bar. Well I was delighted this evening to eat a delicious meal here. Everyone's food was delicious. They highlight both veg and gluten-free options for those with dietary concerns. But there is plenty of stick-to-your-ribs deliciousness on the menu. Our party of five ate: - Very tender beef braised in Guinness broth with veggies and mashed potatoes. So hearty and at the same time subtle, very nicely done. - Chicken crusted with pumpkin seeds over asian noodles and veg. Zingy without being hot/spicy, and full of flavor. - Excellent sandwich and waffle fries - good pumpernickel bread. - Perfect salad with the best grilled portabella mushroom in the universe. - Veg platter with a black bean patty and a melange of vegetables. I liked the corner pocket. Casual atmosphere with good food. I chose to have the pesto but subbed out the edamame for blackened chicken- it was delicious. My boyfriend had the Chesapeake bay burger (burger with crab meat on top) and really loved it. The dessert may have been the best part. Definitely get the ice cream pie; it has an Oreo crust! This place seems like a fun night out with friends as it doubles as a pool hall and has a good beer selection. read more

My dad and I were looking for a place to catch the Jets games while on vacation in Williamsburg. I did some research and found this great place! The bar is small and it is more of a pool hall than a sports bar, but we had a good time watching the game (the Jets won!) due to some outstanding service. The T.V. behind the bar (which was nice and big and the picture was crisp) was not tuned to the game when we got there. They gladly switched it to the game when we asked. They also turned off the blaring music and turned the volume up on the game when we asked if they could put on the closed captioning. The 2 bartenders (I think their names were Drew and Anthony) were very friendly and attentive. We ordered bread pudding pretty late in the game and it did not come out for a while. I think they forgot to put the order in, actually. We had ordered 2 servings but only 1 came out. The bartender had misheard our order. They then brought out the second bread pudding and insisted it was on the house. They then offered us a free round of beer to make amends for their mistake. They were very busy with a holiday party going on while we were there, so the mistake was understandable and we were not put out in any way. It was really nice of them to make it up to us the way they did though. This is the way all restaurants should handle a mistake. It is what earns you stellar Yelp reviews!! =) read more

We're visiting Williamsburg for a family holiday, and we had a great time at The Corner Pocket. I had the island fever salad (blackened chicken, greens in lime vinaigrette, grilled pineapple), hubby had a pulled pork cuban sandwich, and the kids split an order of edamame and a chicken quesadilla. Beware of the Sangria (we opted for the carafe which turned out to be filled with ice & holding no more than a total of about 16 oz. - 4 small wine glasses which were also filled with ice & tasted like cheap grape juice. According to waitress Leah, it had Cabernet wine, Peach Schnapps & (high-priced Courvoisier brandy). I was a mixologist for four years & I have to say, other than (maybe) some watered down wine, we had no other alcohol in the mix. Besides why would one put brandy as expensive as Courvoisier in even if you were actually putting some brandy in the mix? read more

Great place! The servers were excellent. We were there with a large group and they assigned 2 servers to our table. We had about 12 little kids with us. Needless to say we were a tough table. What a great night here! We had a group of 25 and the service and food were both wonderful. The servers could not have been more attentive, the food here is always top notch and tonight it did not disappoint. The patio was full but our group was taken care of in a polite, timely way. I gave two stars only because the food is good. But if you'd like to see how poor customer service can ruin a restaurant this is a case study. I ate here twice and both times felt like I was burdening the restaurant by asking for a seat. Typical service can be summed up with this story. I sat with an empty beer glass and plates to be cleared in plain view (I was so amazed at the poor service that I decided to conduct a little test) while six different staff, including a manager, walked by me over a 20 minute period. Not one of them asked if I wanted another beer or needed the plates cleared or needed anything else. I paid my bill, no tip, and left. That was a few years ago and I've never gone back. read more

This is an unpretentious pub and sports bar. It is one of my favorite places to eat in Williamsburg. The menu is nicely varied and original and changes seasonally. One of my criteria for a restaurant that stays on top of its food is the freshness of its salad greens. (I eat a lot of salads and I eat out a lot.) How many times have you been served wilted, blackened or room temp greens? The kitchen at the Pocket only sends out fresh, crisp, chilled salad greens. I know they taste their food and they look at what they send out. This high standard informs all of their dishes. The beer and wine selections are solid and not overpriced. They have one of the nicest outdoor patios in Williamsburg--covered and with nice umbrellas. Check them out on Facebook for special events and good musicians. I am hoping that they were just having an off night when we went, but unfortunately it was so horrible that I will never be back to find out. We went on Friday evening around 6pm, expecting a bunch of people and a wait..we were one of three tables full during typical rush hour dinner time. Our waitress was extremely nice but was not knowledgeable about any of the menu or drinks. My burger was pretty good, but my one friend ordered a chicken quesadilla and it had gross grey chicken inside. My other friend ordered the blackened veggie wrap, and rather than blackened veggies, they were completely burnt. A couple started to walk in during our meal and stopped and turned around (I'm assuming they were going to the wrong place) and the host up front started saying (very loudly) "oh whatever don't come in then you crazy people!" At this point, we all were very uncomfortable or hungry due to two of the four of us not being able to finish our meals, and we quickly paid and left. I would not recommend anyone to go there, which disappoints me because I was very excited to try this place out while visiting Williamsburg. read more

Went to the corner pocket with family. Guy waiter was not helpful, looked like he did not want to be there or to work in general. Got drinks after a wait. Male waiter tried to take food order was confused about a lot of thing. Staff was just standing around not looking to be friendly or helpful to fellow staff members. Food took for EVER to come out of the kitchen. Everyone at our table agreed the food was average not even really good. This place has worse than usual "bar" food for 5 star prices. The Corner Pocket is a fun place to bring your kids or meet your friends because the menu is so varied and the drinks are reasonably priced. On a recent recent visit, one of us had a blackened bison burger with sweet potato fries, one had jambalaya with french bread, one had the roasted pumpkin-grape-feta cheese salad, and we all shared an order of zucchini sticks and the chips-n-cheese/salsa basket. The food was very good, moderately priced and there was lots of it. I had a glass of malbec which was about 5 dollars less than the identical wine at a Richmond restaurant I tried last month.
