Pretty disappointing actually. Considering the reputation this place has, I don't know where they went wrong after so many decades. I decided to go there after not being back for like 20 yrs. Well, how unfortunate for me. I got a few different breakfast items. I started w/ a fruit salad & none of the fruit was ripe. Ugh. I got a pancake w/ blueberries & the consistency was so weird; every time I tried to take a piece w/ my fork it would fall apart. It didn't even taste that good either. The breakfast potatoes that I got were essentially tiny, frozen potatoes which were over cooked & pretty pathetic. I mean seriously? The only reason why they didn't get one star was the the fresh juice & the pumpkin muffin I got which were both damn good. Certainly don't not worth going back though. read more

The Corner Room has been hyped to me for as long as I can remember, and I've been meaning to try it for half as long. There's always a line outside, though not as long as the Waffle Shop line nearby. A friend and I ventured in, and were seated quickly. The place was packed. Prices not out of this world. Good signs so far. This spot has been open since 1926, and it shows. It's dingy-looking, in an stuffy Old World Denny's kind of way. Eew. I ordered a fish omelette, to my friend's amusement. I don't usually eat omelettes with FISH so it's not fair to judge the place by the dish. It tasted weird. I think I set myself up for failure there. My friend ordered a more normal breakfast - eggs, toast, meat - and wasn't impressed with it. I wouldn't return anytime soon, much rather preferring to hit up the Waffle Shop. read more

My husband and I went out to The Corner Room today-- let me first say, the food is a huge change from about 5 years ago when I was a student here! I forgot to take a picture of the menu this time, but we got the corned beef hash skillet, which my husband thought was delicious! I got thr Canadian bacon eggs Benedict, which was also amazing! And then we got an order of French toast, and im not one for French toast but I tried it and thought it was just the right amount of sweet and cinnamon! Give it a try! Now! We went maybe a month ago, and I tried the sausage and herb dumpling skillet and it was absolutely my favorite thing ever! Husband had the corned beef hash skillet at that time too, it must have been so flavorful that he wanted it again today! There are diner like establishments and there are bad ones and this one falls on the bad side. From walking in to the unpleasant decor and being seating next to a wall that is clearly housing a raging bar scene behind it, to the poor food quality, it just was a total miss. I also don't like when waitresses are very short with customers and don't provide their name at the beginning, making it feel so non-personal and unwelcoming. The cheese stuffed pretzel appetizer is a total miss. It's a reheated Costco brand packaged item and all four of us agreed we shouldn't have ordered it. It comes in three pretzel slices which we found weird too, why not do 2 or 4? Two of us got burgers, which those who ate them said they'd be visiting a bathroom shortly after. The mac n cheese dish was good but small portion for a meal (as it's advertised as, with no sides). The grilled cheese was also small. I chose to "upgrade" to mediocre fries for $1.75 - any time there is an up-charge for fries, I'm automatically disappointed with the establishment, but hold out hope they'll be good. These weren't the worst but they weren't good. Beer was cheap. That was good. But go elsewhere in town for food. read more

In town with girls volleyball team to attend a Sunday afternoon Penn State Women's game on October 2nd. We called two hours ahead to inquire about them handling a party of twenty-four. We explained breaking the group up into two- three tables would be fine. Upon our arrival at 4:15 we were aggressively told we had to be distributed evenly across the whole restaurant in six tables of four. What bullshit. Mediocre food, pretty much incompetent service. Next year we will take our $400 -$500 tab elsewhere. read more

Came to State College for a friend's graduation and ate here for dinner. We also like the name of the place. =P I liked their cups and there are etch and sketch toys to play with. And we got to sit in a really nice booth. Made us feel fancy! We ours the Crab and Artichoke Dip as the appetizer. I kind of liked it but is not a huge fan of crab. My one friend LOVED it though. The graduate ordered a Cheeseburger. My other friend ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo. And I got the Pulled Pork BBQ burger. I didn't try the things they got but I liked my burger. Meh. The Corner Room is now a pale shadow of its former glory. Stopped in last weekend after being away for a few years and was very disappointed. What used to be a multipage menu now fits on a placemat. Six of us all ordered different items. The Caesar Salad with salmon was the best choice of the bunch, however you could tell it was a very cheap cut of salmon. The chili was more like a meat sauce with gristly ground beef. The shrimp and grits tasted like they just added some shrimp to the chili (gristle and all) and the grits had the consistency of instant mashed potatoes, definitely not what i would call grits. Our server was great though. But sadly, we all decided that we would not return. read more

A staple of downtown 30 years ago when I was a student here and it still is. Interesting how it's evolved over the years. As a student it was a place I couldn't afford to go often but the menu and prices are very student friendly. Basic bar food. Not too expensive and decent quality. This place is absolutely adorable! The interior is so cute and the food is pretty tasty. I've come here a few times and have once been served by a male waiter who was so polite, attentive and friendly. Every other time I've come, the service has been so poor. The staff looks bored out of their minds! The convenience of this place is great, it's in the middle of downtown, close to campus and very fairly priced. The pastries during brunch are worth coming for but the staff needs a little bit of training. read more

We looked forward to The Corner Room for breakfast but Covid has curtailed hours of many establishments. The Corner Room website however has a link to a breakfast menu so we thought perhaps some brunch/breakfast items might be offered on weekends. No, no and NO ! Our server was super apologetic and asked us to please return for another visit in the future. She insisted that we chat with the young guy who was the manager. I do understand the labor staffing shortage. I do understand the supply chain problems for fresh food. But is do not understand why a "manager" would be RUDE AND DISMISSIVE to a customer in such a way. After 50 years of visiting the Corner Room I may never go back there. Our visit was on Sunday November 6 about noon in case the owners might council this rude employee. read more

This is a very cool historical spot in downtown SC and is well worth a try on a non-football weekend. The breakfast is nothing that will blow you away, but you will be satisfied. The aesthetics of the restaurant make up for the okay food because you really feel like you're experiencing a piece of history of the area. If it is not slammed for breakfast, go for it. But I wouldn't wait very long to eat here. Also, the Rothrock Corner Room blend coffee here is excellent. read more

Looking for a nice breakfast in SC and this was recommended to us. It was the morning after a football game so was fairly busy but the wait was a mere 30-40mins when we had been told it would be one hour. The location is great and the decor is nice. With rain outside it felt warm and welcoming so we quickly took a place in one of the booths. The menu was largely typical breakfast fare although the 3L of Mimosas was a fun addition that we sadly couldn't enjoy on this particular day! Food was ordered and arrived in reasonable time. One order of Eggs in Purgatory was very much enjoyed but my breakfast sandwich order and another omelette order were both wrong as the wait staff misheard what we had requested. 1 out of 3 isn't a great batting average for a restaurant, and in case you are wondering, we have never had this issue at any restaurant in the past 20+ yrs. The wait staff made their apologies after a little attitude but it definitely didn't help the experience. The food was in general ok. I love spicy food but the breakfast potatoes seemed to be seasoned very aggressively! I think the food was probably overpriced for a glorified diner but the place was busy so who am I to argue? Not to say I won't be back, but I surely won't be enthusiastic about it. read more

I've never had horrible food but the watery pasta, overcooked homemade chips, overcooked cheesesteak, wrong toppings on salads and wrong dressing on salads, brings down the rating for the 'okay' food I've had. So frustrated with the staff at this restaurant who were goofing off and would not acknowledge us to get a seat or even come back after we were seated yesterday 8/13/2023 around 2 PM. After waiting at the table for some time we got up and walked out, I bet they did not even notice. So many staff just goofing off and not even trying to do their job. Terrible. Sat at a one person "booth" that would fit a toddler and not a fully grown adult. Tea tasted like was strained through a jock strap. Wings were measly and buffalo sauce tasted like watered down Franks. Blue cheese served with it watered down. Blacked chicken salad was one of the worst ever. Maybe half a chicken breast on top. Which is a great place as well but today I'm back for the shepherds pie and I'll be back with that review later !!! Ahh The Corner Room! A classic State College restaurant on the corner of College Ave and Allen! I used to go here as a student every Thursday for their burger specials! When family visited I took them here because every other student did (#Parentapproved) and it was close to my college apt that was only a few blocks away! Funny enough my brother and his GF thought to take me here because they felt it was safe for people who avoided gluten. Fast forward to a recent lunch that was accompanied by my brother and his girlfriend. It was Sunday Funday but we opted to keep it sober as I had a long drive ahead of me. We were led into the dining room after noticing the brunch buffet in full swing. After promptly being sat in a booth we were greeted by our server. I opted for the fajita salad and added Guac for a dollar more (duh! #Nobrainer). All in all, I was pleased to enjoy this detox of a meal. It was nothing to rave about but came out as expected. Not a ton of vegetables in this fajita salad but it was made better with guac. If you're looking for fancier, trendier sunday funday brunch location then check out other places away from downtown! read more

This was our first visit, and it won't be our last. Man we were impressed. It was the turning door that made us choose to eat here versus the many other options. We were seated in a cute VIP booth, and chose the Grilled Grape and Burrata Cheese Toast appetizer. Thought it was going to be a simple grilled cheese and grape jelly, but we were NOT disappointed with the beautiful dish that came it. Really cute college town restaurant with a lot of history and vintage decor. We only came for the famous Stickies - which were fantastic- but if I am ever in town again I would like to come back and try other things on the menu. The stickies were insane though - like the inside of a cinnamon roll and I would recommend to get them a la mode to make it even better. The Corner Room was one of my favorite restaurants when I was in college 20+ years ago. I come back to Penn State usually 2 times every fall. I hadn't been to CR since 2014 and was excited to go this time. My opinion is to take a hard pass on this place now. The menu is completely different and the food quality seems to be poor. The place was very busy as it was a football Saturday, and besides the long wait, the service was actually pretty decent. But the food was just not good. They need to reconsider bringing back old favorites like the open face sandwiches. Over all not a great experience. read more

I've been coming to the Corner Room off and on since 1987. Probably stop in three times a year on average. Used to have a solid traditional American diner menu. They've recently changed their menu to little more than sandwiches, which are serviceable but not special. I had a hot sausage sandwich that contained somewhere within its oversized roll a Hot Dog sized sausage with shriveled skin. To add to the ambience, they now serve their chips still in the bag, so you can feel you've just stopped at a gas station. read more

The Corner Room previously offered a Thanksgiving Buffet. Last year I called and asked for a reservation, and the girl that answered the telephone said that I didn't NEED a Reservation. I showed up on Thanksgiving at 11 AM when they opened for the Buffet. The girl that greeted me when I walked in asked me if I "Had a Reservation". I told her that I had called the previous week asking if I needed a Reservation and she said I DID NOT. The girl that greeted me went back toward the kitchen and a young man came out and told me that they would not serve me because I didn't have a Reservation. I repeated what I had told the young lady when I came in and he said that they would not serve me because they wouldn't have enough food. Right. I left, hungry and PISSED OFF at their stupidity. I just looked at their Website and discovered that they are offering a Thanksgiving Dinner that is NOT a buffet, it is a fixed menu. Must have a Reservation. $34 a person. I understand that Hotel State College, the Corner Room, Zenos, and the other two businesses that share the same Liquor License have a NEW OWNER named JOHN. Here's a tip John, you're just as Stupid as the previous owners. I will NEVER Patronize any of your establishments EVER again. KMA. read more
