I have never been to Siesta Key but have lived in FL for 12 years. On a day trip we found this place walking back from the beach and were pleasantly surprised. From the moment we walked up the staff was very accommodating. It was around 4pm and we wanted a few small bites with libations. We ordered the crab cake, short rib bites, diver sea scallops, and fries. Highly recommend all. The bartenders were very attentive and courteous. I was in FL for the week on a work trip, first half was in Jacksonville, last leg in Sarasota. My meal at The Cottage was the best I had over the 6 days I had to dine out. I asked Sarah H. (our sever who is one of the friendliest and most genuine service industry workers ever!) for recommendations and she did not disappoint. She suggested the tuna tacoshimi, short ribs cheese bites, and the billionaire burger. The tuna tacos was savory yet refreshing on a hot day. The short rib looked like dessert, it's a beautiful dish, super colorful. I would have ordered it again for dessert, it was that good. We got all the extras on the burger, it was everything you want when a that craving hits for a gooey, cheesy, meaty handheld. This is now one of my favorite places in Sarasota! read more

The valet had recommended The Cottage, he said it was his favorite restaurant. It was Mother's Day and very busy at another local spot across the street so we were surprised to get right in! We had the option to sit inside or outside in their back patio. We chose the back patio which was so cute and quiet, very unexpected! This is definitely a hidden gem! Our server was Sean, you could tell he takes pride in what he does, he was excellent! To drink I ordered a grapefruit mimosa and my mom got a lavender cocktail, both were very good! During our three-night stay in Siesta Key, we ended up at The Cottage two of those nights, if that tells you anything. We were fans of the bar here and little did we know, at the time, that this place is also known for its food and daily live music. The Cottage serves seafood and an eclectic selection of New American cuisine including tapas (small plates). This restaurant and bar has been around for well over a decade now in Siesta Key Village. Visiting from out of town and our first night in Siesta Key, we'd never heard of The Cottage until we had literally walked over after having dinner next door at Summer House Steak & Seafood. If you're looking for a nice, high-end date night or special occasion dinner, I recommend Summer House. While I can't comment directly on the food, I can already tell The Cottage is the place to come for quality casual bites that isn't a run-of-the-mill bar food / pub grub. It's certainly a place I would look to come back to for food in Siesta Key if I were to return. Briana was our bartender the night of our first visit, a Thursday night. She was really friendly and cool. Our guys group closed the place down with a bachelorette party that was dining on the patio. The atmosphere was a lot more chill on our Thursday night visit compared to our second visit the following Saturday night, unsurprisingly. On that Saturday night visit, it was a lot busier. Rudy was our bartender that night. He was nice as well and gave us recommendations on other late-night spots in Siesta Key and Sarasota. The manager, a moustached man with an earpiece and glasses IIRC, was friendly as well. He recognized us from our previous visit. I mainly sat at the bar during our visits while some of my friends ventured out onto the front patio. The bar had a few TVs playing sports. If you're looking for a sports bar, go across the street to MVP - My Village Pub. The Cottage actually has two patios, one in front and one hidden in the back. This isn't a very big place, but it's spacious enough. It has a warm, cozy, and inviting feel to it. The staff was consistently welcoming to us. Since I'm not a big drinker, Rudy made me a Mango Mule mocktail ($8) out of ginger beer, fresh lime, and mango puree. It was ice cold, sweet, refreshing, and delicious. I liked this place. read more

Wellll, when in such a touristy spot as Siesta Key Village, expectations are lower to be honest. People do not visit the Village for culinary delights, it is more convenience and fun, right? On a Friday afternoon, we were seated at the corner table overlooking the busy outside street. Maybe the server kept forgetting that we were there since it is a bit hidden or maybe service is just mediocre. When our lunch arrived, power food salad and grouper sandwich, they ignored my empty ice tea glass. I ended up taking my empty glass to the hostess who was happy to replenish it. Now to the food, hubby enjoyed the salad - its base looked similar to packaged cole slaw mix. My grouper sandwich barely had any fish on it- mostly bun. Server allowed me to switch out the fries for the marinated cukes. That dish was packaged seaweed salads with thinly sliced cukes & radishes added for +$4.00. Salad was good and plenty of it. I wonder if that is the appetizer size portion I was served as it was a hearty side dish. One tea, water, and those 2 dishes lunch was $44. Inside dining/bar was quite dark with its wooden paneling. Bathrooms were clean- only 2. Surprised with only 2 that the staff and guests have to share them.. Meh read more

This is one of the best places to eat in the area. The staff was so friendly and gave great suggestions. They even have valet which was so nice. The short rib cheese bites are a MUST. They were so good and came with 3 to an order. Our party mentioned you could have had that as a meal for one person. So so good. We got the fish special of the day (can't remember what it was exactly) but it was so soft and melted in your mouth. The seafood scampi didn't seem like a lot but it was filling with a few different seafood in it. The presentation was nice too which 2 bowls for the shells of the seafood. The filet mignon with the blue cheese mashed potato's were so tasty. The actual filet mignon was amazing and probably one of the best I've ever had. read more

We sat outside and it was very comfortable as fans are pointed right at us. Now let's dig in The mussels were very buttery and I even convinced my mate to try them. He HATES mussels but he loved these. I regret waiting so long to post this because I don't remember the meal names, but they're pictured. There was a short rib dish that blew us away. It was very rich and flavorful. I will always get a crab cake and this one did not disappoint! The sauce was absolutely perfect. The watermelon jalapeño drink blew me away and somehow the flavors worked! The lobster bisque was very creamy and again it turned a hater into a lover (he dislikes bisque). The calamari was standard, but idk if you can make an exceptional calamari. And finally the truffle fries were very delicious and fried to the perfect texture. OBSESSED WITH THIS PLACE! The food was so unreal. Every dish we got was better than the next! The service was a little all over the place, starting with the fact that we were told it would be about an hour wait and got a call 10 minutes later which in theory was great but we had just walked away and started ordering drinks elsewhere! We stuck to the tapas for our group of 7 which was a good idea. The hostess let us know what we had enough of and what we needed to order doubles of. It was so much food but so good. Tuna poke tostados - fantastic. So much flavor. We ordered another one. Short rib grilled cheese bites - random compared to the other stuff on the menu, but SO good. Super heavy though, but we ended up ordering another round of these too. Very unique! Tempura shrimp was delicious. Calamari fritti - amazing and so flavorful - the olive tapenade was amazing. One thing to note is it comes with a LOT of peppers and they are SPICY. One of us who literally always adds hot sauce to any dish couldn't even handle so many got left behind. If you can't handle spicy don't order or ask them to either remove or include less. It was a lot. The drinks were delicious - the adam and eve tasted like the smell of a beautiful expensive soap. We've been to SK plenty but never thought to stop in here. We were surprised to be sated with only a 2-3 minute wait. We were seated at an outdoor table on the front porch area. The weather to me was pretty comfortable but my friends were thrilled to have plenty of fans blowing cool air. Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable about menu items and helped narrow down the very difficult decision on what to order. We all ordered something different and were all very happy with our items. My friend said the burger was one of the best she's had. Our waiter and waitress were very attentive, clearing plates as soon as they were empty and asking if we wanted refills often. This place is a bit pricier than most restaurants in the village. Be prepared when ordering entrees that say "market price" like the filet because they charged upwards of $50 for that entree. The mumbai chicken was a great appetizer! Try to avoid inside seating in the bar area if possible because the music through the speakers and the people at the bar make it impossible to hear. read more

This place has it all. Nice local restaurant that feels like home. It looks like a cottage you'd find up in some ski lodge but with of course, the beach feel. I wish I could remember our servers name, she was awesome! Kept our drinks filled and gave us some good laughs. For the food, we both went with the Cheeseburger that is made with three different meats, and they are huge! The flavor was probably the best burger I've ever had, and I went with the truffle fries as the side. Both were extremely flavorful and wife and I probably could have split one!
