Had a great breakfast here on my birthday. They have a chocolate stuffed french toast topped with strawberries and whipped cream. It was delicious. This place is a local spot, and while it is a bit dated and could use a good steam cleaning, it's consistent. The people working there have been there for years, and they know what you want to order before you open your mouth. It's breakfast! Nothing fancy, but good food, served quickly. Try their crepes - they are delicious. Good coffee, blueberry pancakes are very good and large. The best service. Wonderful local restaurant. Their chicken and rice soup is better than my mother's and she makes really good soup. read more

This place is good for a quick, filling breakfast. Food is decent, coffee is hot, menu is relatively inexpensive, and I personally can't beat the location as its within walking distance from my apartment. Local place with lots of regulars. Service seems to be kind of hit or miss but I've been twice now and haven't had issues. My only complaint is their hours seem weird - I stopped by with a friend on a Thursday at 9:30 am and they were closed. read more

Horrible !!!! Place is dirty ,place needs an overhaul, rugs look like they havent been washed in years , if its a dirty place then usualy that mean they dont care . Well I went there this morning with my son to have breakfast and sat down it took 20 minutes to get a coffee out to us and another 40 minutes and she was sitting other people around us and taking their order and not taking our order so I waved her down and told her that we've been here for 40 to 50 minutes without any refill on coffee or haven't taken our orders yet so the owner of the establishment comes out and just says what do you want in a mean gesture I said with an attitude like that I am all set I paid for my coffee and hot chocolate and I left this place has gone downhill it is unbelievable how the owner is disrespectful to the customers and will never ever go there again don't waste your time going over there it's not worth their attitude they act like they dont care .horrible experience and will never go back .my suggestions it's only a half a mile up the road is Mary Ann's in Salem New Hampshire it is like night and day compared to Country Kitchen don't waste your time with people that disrespect customers. if there was no stars I would have gave it thank you read more

Not impressed- came back After a year and the place really needs to be refreshed- meaning with the air flow and decor. It just seemed to be dirty. It is open kitchen - kinda- and there was a lady by the grill with her hair down and the person on the grill without gloves. They leave the cream out on the table for guest after guest and the ketchup bottle was gross. There was a sweat smell inside. I just felt congested. Me and my two other friends thought the same but sucked it up. When the food came it was nothing special but not bad. A lot of butter!!! The eggs just seem to come out of a container. Not fresh eggs. Seat yourself. Big portions, good food. Staff very friendly. Small space, tables are small-3 of us were squished. Not terribly impressed but place looked neat and tidy, clean. Value was good...3 of us ate for $25. There are better places out there. read more

My wife and I live in Methuen and eat at this breakfast/lunch restaurant as often as we can. This is a Mom and Son operation. All their food is fresh and home style and always gets a 5+ star rating from us every time we go. I especially love the eggs benedict and the chicken soup. The hungry man breakfast is also a big hit for anyone with a big appetite. A few years ago they started serving lunch and with their expanded menu it makes dining here even more exciting. There are daily breakfast and lunch specials and the prices are very reasonable. In addition, the atmosphere is friendly and the service is always top notch. Happy to report that after eating at this place my entire life, they started serving lunch a few years ago and brought back their legendary Fish and Chips on Fridays. Not only fish and chips, but all kinds of fresh fried seafood at prices that are more reasonable than mostly anywhere... It's always homemade chowder, usually fish and clam with the occasional hearty corn chowder thrown into the mix... And THE BEST cole slaw I've ever had! It's actually cheaper to have lunch at The Country Kitchen than a fast food joint bc the food is fresh and delicious, not frozen, processed crap... Give it a try for breakfast or lunch and I guarantee u will not be disappointed! read more

Just saw a mouse. Told the waitress and she didn't care. Then got a bill that was completely wrong. Not coming back.

I was in early in the morning, before the waitress was there. I was served by the cook. He was friendly and courteous, no problems there. I ordered an omelet with cheese. The toast was a little over buttered and the omelet had a little too much cheese but all in all the food was ok. The restaurant appeared to be clean, although the true test is the bathroom, which I didn't visit. When the waitress finally arrived the service went in the toilet. First, she was dressed like she was going to a night club. Covered with jewelry, high hair, and tight jeans she looked like a cross between a fortune teller and "a woman of ill repute". It was obvious she was desperately trying to hold on to her youth although failing miserably. The few elderly men who came in for their morning coffee were giving her the attention she so desperately was looking for. And true to form, she was trying to be coy and playful all the time they helped her with her "side work". This went on for so long that I couldn't even get a refill of my 1 cup of coffee... so much for the "bottomless cup of coffee" they advertise. Finally tired of the nonsense, I paid my bill and left... the waitress had the audacity to say "have a nice day" as I walked out the door... pitiful. Although the food was ok, and the cook really cared about the service he delivered, the rest of the service was deplorable. I think next time I will find someplace else to spend my money. read more

The food is very good for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Fish and chips are great as well as the chowders. The only thing I would say that is strange is when I give the check back to the waitress with my debit card and she asks if I want to add a tip to it, because they don't have the capability of putting it through so you can add the tip after she brings it back. Come on people !! Have you paid people to write the past reviews ? This has to be one of the dirtiest restaurants ever. Left back in the old days it could still be clean. Oh wait. Go into the batchrrom and take a chance of falling through the floors. Ya right ! Then there is the food. Is that what it is suppose to be. I call it just plain grease. Grease slathered on everything from the toast and homefries and eggs to their "homemade waffles". NOT !!! These were just heated up EGGO. I could see if the prices were cheap but they are not !!
