We had the best time at Covey. It's so fun to watch the open kitchen and it has a warm vibe. We walked in without a reservation and they were still able to seat us at the bar. The bar tender was so nice and gave great recommendations. The food was incredible. We got the pork belly appetizer as well as the clams. They both had the best flavor combinations, highly recommend. I got the bavette steak which was cooked to the perfect temp. My husband got the homemade rigatoni and bolognese which was also delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at The Covey. I recommend making a reservation if you're visiting on the weekend. The food was outstanding. As an appetizer we ordered the roasted cauliflower. It was phenomenal. I ordered the Malloreddua pasta and my friend ordered another pasta dish. Both were excellent. Our waitress was Emily. I asked her for a wine recommendation, she suggested the Bordeaux, and it was on point for my dish. Emily was very friendly and engaging. Beware it's my opinion this is the reason why Restaurants in SV don't stay in business. For example The Convey you make reservations online with a credit card to guarantee and if you cancel 24hrs or less they charge you $100 per person. What's that about. "When" Cornerstone was open early on ...so pretentious.. not willing to accommodate guests.. Enoteca same thing.. the only thing about Enoteca is that they have listened to the complaints and have made adjustments.. which is the reason why they are "still" in business. They should take a look at the Pioneer, Kneadery, La Cabinita, Romina, Vintage, The Sawtooth.. ..these Restaurants are more will to think about their guest first! I'm just saying! read more

This is my third time coming here. Every time I swear to myself I'm never coming back. The atmosphere and decor is on point but the food is lacking. It's honestly deceiving. The menu is filled with interesting dishes but there is no follow through. We were a party of 8 and not 1 person finished their plates. As fair of a review as possible. Our last visit, the waitress had a pretty elitist attitude, not particularly friendly and mainly acted like she was doing us a favor. In general the policies here are pretty extreme to get a reservation give you cc card and get charged $100 per person if you don't cancel well in advance. On the flip side I've had my reservation cancelled BY them at the last minute - never heard of such a thing and left us high and dry on a special evening for our family. Not a good experience. They tried to sit us outside in the sun when every table was unoccupied. We are talking 90 degrees. When we finished our dinner, most tables were still unoccupied! The Covey is the only place in Ketchum I've been to that attempts a seasonal, creative, New American menu and I deeply appreciate them for trying, when sourcing ingredients can be so challenging in this corner of Idaho. The service is fantastic - once you are past the sometimes chaotic host stand - the backyard patio is lovely in summer, the dining room is airy and modern. By Portland standards, the food is not a huge standout, but when you've tried the breadth of what the Sun Valley area has to offer you come to appreciate a place that is putting in the effort to do modern, delicious, ever-changing cuisine and not just the same "reserve" roast beef they've served for 30 years (IYKYK). We've made time to go on a date at the Covey on almost every trip (2 times a year) for a few years now, and while not every dish hits it out of the park, the kitchen keeps working and getting better and more creative with mostly seasonal ingredients - perhaps because the chef grew up here and has a good grasp of how to use what is locally available. One additional note: it seems unfair and a little low that Yelp allows folks to give the same negative review more than once, years apart. Personally, I've noticed big improvements at the Covey in the years I've been enjoying their food, and reposting an outdated complaint seems both petty and inaccurate. read more

If you're not eating dinner here. You should be. Omg. So delicious. Steak. Perfect. Pasta bucatini. Just so well done. I love it! The steak was Brazilian cut very flavorful. Cooked just right per our request. The woman next to me ordered it medium rare and she seemed quite please. We prefer a medium. The pasta is made in house daily, per the staff. It did not disappoint. We've come to this restaurant a lot over the last year and you can always expect good service and an inviting atmosphere. However, we had dinner there recently and the food was awful. It was as if they were trying too hard with an overly inventive menu. The pastas were too chewy and tasteless. The apps were okay but for the price of the meal, really disappointing. We opined whether the restaurant had changed hands as the menu seemed a bit off from previous menus. Overall, there are better options in Ketchum:, Cookbook, Enoteca and their sister restaurant, Ketchum Grill. read more

Honestly the way they expertly handled kids was the best part of this restaurant. As soon as we sat down they brought the kids a set of markers and paper, with the promise that if they made a nice piece of artwork they would hang it near the bar. The kids studiously worked on art for most of the dinner and were rewarded with a prominent display of their hard work. The food was good too, mostly pasta based dishes for us. read more

The food was really awesome, and I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. Ashely was absolutely amazing! About as good as servers get. Wow, what a great find! We had a really exquisite meal here last night! Beautiful setting, amazing atmosphere, fantastic service (our server was Jill), and phenomenal food! We started with a charred cauliflower appetizer that was our-of-this world! I had the pan-roasted half chicken (delicious!). My wife had the home-made pasta (amazing!). We made reservations well in advance and showed up on time - only to be put into the 'penalty box' outside because the bar seating we'd asked for was not available. We sat outside for about 15min before someone came out to see if we'd like something to drink while we wait - another 15min passes before the drinks finally did arrive. Have to mention that the glass of wine ($22 for the glass) was a very very small pour - looked like a sample/taste than a glass of wine.! We were finally seated over 40min after our reservation time - to then be sit longer and watch the bartender ignore us! Customer service all around was really poor! We decided to save our evening out, and went to the Pio With no reservations we were seated, excellent service - great food (at the Pio) - and the total bill from the Pio was just $10 more than what our drinks cost at The Covey!! (BTW - Covey will charge your CC $100/person if you are a no-show for reservations!) Time to find a new 'go-to' place in SV! read more

The food was delicious! Cauliflower app and bread was so tasty. Super yummy and fresh salad. Pasta was amazing wine was delicious. Super cool you see the chefs/cooks prepping and the huge fire they cook on etc. unfortunately our server was awful. Like a review above she had an elitist attitude. And she rushed us to order. She literally told us we need to order all our food when we had only a sip of wine and nibble of app. I thought maybe the place would get busy and they would need the table but nope all the tables around us were empty the whole. Sad that one server would make me give it 4 instead 5 stars but she made us very very uncomfortable. I'm writing this review for a friend, to respect her privacy. The setting of The Covey was cramped and loud, but in a good way. She did not have to make a reservation, but did have to sit at the bar. The menu was limited, so she went with a medium rare steak. It was accompanied by boiled full potatoes, which did not have seasoning other than salt. They were not cut, which really did not help the case for a $26.00 steak. The meat was not properly prepared, being overly chewy and presented with a sauce unimpressive. After being asked why only 1/3 of it was eaten by wait staff, she admitted that it wasn't good. Instead of taking a cue and notifying the kitchen, he just walked away. Not the best customer service experience. May try The Covey again, but Ketchum is a competitive space for restaurants with excellent menus all over. If The Covey wants to attract a crowd that is repeat business, the quality of food preparation, presentation, and service needs to be addressed. Thank you for considering her feedback! read more

Had the butternut squash soup and the house made sausage with pickled veggies, which were delightful, and enjoyed the well rounded wine list to compliment the dishes. Food was perfect! The service was great. The 12 top pushed up against us was crowded and annoying. First, our reservation for a table was denied, " we had a table for you but now we don't. " I asked for a table and it didn't happen. We were rerouted to the kitchen stools. Great, but was looking for a romantic evening as it was our anniversary celebration. We ended up squeezed in and dealing with it cuz, well we live here, but it was expensive and we felt overlooked a bit. Again, food was great and server Jordan was terrific! We will go back, but not unless we have a table. Nice to see owner serving food, but maybe he should be at door making sure things roll smoothly. We made a reservation after hearing promising reviews, and were surprised we hadn't noticed this place before. The open view of the kitchen is wonderful and the staff was so interactive! I don't think I've ever felt so welcome at a restaurant, especially to note that it was a bit fancier than we usually dine with our three younger kids. Horrendous dining experience with below average food, especially at the price point. Trying to achieve a hipster vibe, but unfortunately misses the mark big time. Sat at the bar, after a few minutes the bartender sat a friend in the space that is supposed to be for social distancing. The bartender and her friend proceeded to finish leftover bottles of sake and other drinks that customers had not finished and totally ignoring all customers dining at the bar. Due to the bad service I left approx 10-12-% tip, basically the minimum I tip if the service is really bad. When I opened my credit card statement, the charge from the restaurant was higher than the total i signed for, meaning the bartender and i would say the restaurant committed fraud. I contacted the restaurant and talked to the manager, being promised a callback the next day, but the manager has not called back after a week. read more

By then we just asked for our check AND IT TOOK ANOTHER 10 MINUTES TO GET THE CHECK. I couldn't recommend The Covey any LESS. We had a great dining experience until our server came up to us hours later at a bar accusing us of leaving a poor tip. We tipped 20% on our check pre-tax, so we were wildly confused. He complained that we tipped pre-tax and also said we tipped 12% which was inaccurate. It was wildly inappropriate. Upon calling the restaurant to complain to the manager, the manager offered no apology and called us "whiny asses" and said she didn't have time to deal with us. I then asked for her name as I was obviously insulted, and she put us on hold before hanging up on us and refused to give her name. Do not go here if you value customer service. read more

Despite some negative reviews amongst many 5 stars, I thought the covey was excellent. Food was a little slow but considering there were just 3 chefs on a busy night, it was acceptable. Well worth the wait for the pasta dishes we ordered. I wish the appetizers were larger but they tasted pretty good. Entrees were awesome. Super cool and hip atmosphere with kind, youthful, and helpful waitresses and hostess. Food was yummy and I wish they had a dessert menu so we could eat some more. Good vibes, good food, nice people. The meal was a disaster Our table appetizers came 15 minutes apart and were wrong. Focaccias ordered before appetizers came 30 minutes later. We had to go to the bar and get our water. Drinks came after appetizers. Fish appetizer was fishy and uneatable. Silverware was missing. No flex on food. We said no starch, only vegetables... no chance. Food quality was good (except for smelly fish appetizer) but it was too heavy, given the open flame kitchen which signaled a different experience. Waiter was useless Too bad.
