We visited while on holiday last week and had a great time. They unfortunately ran out of the one thing we had our hearts set on, the halibut collar, so we struggled a bit on what to order. We were encouraged to get the bolognese, which was just ok. We should've listened to our guts and ordered the seafood brodo. The steak was solid and perfectly medium rare and juicy. Excellent service and atmosphere. We were an hour early for our reservation but they sat us right away and gave us our choice of table. The cocktails were very good. The food could have used a bit more seasoning. We had a tuna dish that was heavy on the lime and could've used a touch more salt but it was extremely fresh. Nice location on main street but should have realized why there were so many outside tables available. Service was perfunctory and menu suitable. Drinks came out and a wine pour was equivalent to 3 sips. Waiter told us to talk to the manager who said that's their standard pour and that's it. Dinner was okay but portions again were weak. We are not big eaters but do expect a reasonable plate of food. Restaurants differentiate themselves by service and food. Neither was acceptable. Choose one of many other options in town to feel like a valued patron having a meal of value. Not here. read more

One of the best meals I've had stateside in a long time. I had the panzanella, which had very fresh peas, a mix of herbs and pea shoots, and it was seasoned perfectly. For an entree, I had the mushroom ragu, which was so savory and also perfectly seasoned over homemade pasta -- yum! They have a vegan menu as well as several choices for vegetarians (like me) on the regular menu. They also have plenty of meat and fish options for my friends as well. The atmosphere is very peaceful, with low lighting and an almost fantastical atmosphere, with rustic planking on the walls and whimsical decorations and various lighting fixtures, including lots of candles. There's a small, lit patio with tables for 2 -- very romantic when the weather is warm. Staff were friendly and down to earth. Our waitress was helpful without being intrusive. Bottom line: Go here. The menu is very intimidating. However the wait staff was more than willing to answer any questions we had without making us feel like we were stupid. We ended up with tuna, and Cubans. Both of which were out of this world. The wine and spirts list was great the waitress gave us some samples to make sure we make the correct choice for out tastebuds. read more

Great farm to table food, cool vibe and good drinks. Loved the tequila cocktail with the chili and sea salt. My favorite spot in Edgartown! I had to go back one last time before I left the island, specifically for the Katama in the afternoon drink. The bartender Trevor was an artist! If you are looking for fresh, delicious food, give it a try. If you are looking for a fine-dining experience, don't go. Atmosphere is hot and loud. Booth was cramped and we still had trouble having a conversation. If you decide to give it a try, go a cool evening and sit outside. Food is creative but not in an over-the-top way. Nice, fresh flavors. If you're having wine, just be prepared that the servings are small. (I think the menu said 5 oz.) Flourless chocolate cake was amazing. read more

My daughter and I ate at The Covington last night and really enjoyed our meal. We elected to sit at the front outside tables and enjoyed watching the vibrant street scene. We loved our waitress Mari! She was extremely professional and friendly. We decided to pay the $3 for the bread and butter and it was delicious! It was a toasted sourdough with creamy butter- yummy! Mari said that the bread was from Morning Glory Farm. I know that there were many reviews about the extra charge for the bread and butter but thought it was totally worth it. We shared the arugula salad (very tasty) and each had a pasta dish. I thought that my pasta, penne with summer squash, was a Winner! Very fresh, light and flavorful! My daughter had the rigatoni with red sauce which she enjoyed. The only criticism is that there was too much red sauce in comparison to the amount of pasta. The portions were perfect. I know that people were complaining about their $22 glass of Chardonnay but there were plenty of other choices of wine by the glass. My Sauvignon was only $12 and delicious. We ordered one of each of the 2 desserts on the menu. The best of the 2 was the honey pie and vanilla ice cream. The chocolate cake was a little too rich and drowning in raspberry sauce but still delicious. We had a great time at The Covington and expect to return. read more

If zero stars were an option, I would have chosen it. Martha's Vineyard and Edgartown have become a shakedown, especially dining. The Covington is just the latest, cynical iteration: derivative, overpriced, and insubstantial. If you don't walk out wondering what you just spent $200 for 3-4 people, you obviously have money to burn, because that's effectively what you just did. Saturday night, we waited an hour for the privilege of being seated, famished after driving all day. I finally asked for some bread and butter, and the server stared at me like it was the height of presumption. In fairness, he's been trained to squeeze out profits, by people who feel very entitled to them. They brought exactly 5 tiny pieces of bread. One for each of us. Then we waited. And waited. From the first time they said it would just be another minute, we must have waited 30 more minutes. I can't remember ever waiting like that. One dish was inedible from an excess of salt. $36.00 for their version of the same salmon fillet as everywhere else? All I wanted was to pay and get out as fast as possible. I urge everyone to consider what else they could be doing with that $200, like donating it to a soup kitchen, which could use it to provide 10X more nourishment to 10X more people. My two teenaged kids and I ate at The Covington last week and absolutely loved it. The daily special of seared yellowtail on braised greens was the best meal I had during our 10 day east coast jaunt; a dish that would go over quite well in Los Angeles, our home city. Service was superior, helpful and attentive--our waitress brought out two different wines for me to try before serving my fish, really appreciated the effort. Phenomenal! My wife and I are there last night. The servers were amazing; the hostess was thoughtful; the food was amazing. Highly recommend the squid ink pasta and the fettuccine with clams. Try to keep your socks from getting knocked off. There were five of us, and we all loved what we ordered. The broccoli and broccolini, both crostini, squid ink pasta with smoked trout roe and egg yolk, scallops out of the shell and served with its own roe, fluke, and even the steak for two were all sublime. Every bite was tasty and well planned. The service was friendly but not overly so, prompt, and efficient. The decor was casually elegant. I'd go there every night if I could. This is probably the best restaurant on Martha's Vineyard this year, slightly above my previous favorites, Beach Road and State Road. The food is rustic--so not a competitor of the high technique Michelin starred type of restaurant. Everything we had was interesting. The stars of our meal were the pickled honeysuckle oyster crostini, the ceviche, the pasta with pork ragu and the broccolini. First time at The Covington. Brought my family of 5. We were happy to be seated quickly with no reservation. But it went down hill from there. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay and my husband a mixed drink. There was practically no alcohol in his mixed drink and my glass ended up being $22 for a single glass. My meal was tasty but the portion of protein was very tiny. My husband and son ordered the duck and got a huge plate of sticky rice and very little duck. If you want bread and butter be prepared to pay for it. I'm used to high end restaurants but we were all very disappointed with portion and price. I hope they work out the kinks. read more

Delicious dinner for two! From our Burrata appetizer to the lobster pasta special and sea scallops we split this was one of the best dinners we've had on the island! While we saw families with kids, I'd recommend this restaurant for adults. Delicious cocktails and very good service. Really enjoyed sitting outside! read more
