The vibe upon enetering this shop is so "beachy" what with the worn wood, the "shack" architecture and decor. I've been craving a good AVOCADO MILKSHAKE for a long long while. Last one I had was watered down to the point of blandness. Cow's End was able to balance the dairy, the avocado and the ice in this milkshake and it was just right. Just the way a Filipino restaurant would do it! So good! The SRIRACHA TERIYAKI WRAP was a great creation. The sweetness of the teriyaki, the spiciness of the sriracha and the fresh crunchiness of the vegetables all went well together. The CHOCOLATE CROISSANT was appropriately flakey and chocolatey. Met a friend for coffee and chats on a Saturday at 11 and luckily we got to order before the long line started! *CASH ONLY* This coffee place is in a very cute area of Venice right near the pier. Parking could maybe be tofu but luckily I somehow secured a paid parking spot right out front! While they do have an extensive food menu, I just got an iced coffee with coconut flavor, which was very good! Sometimes I think liquid flavors can have an odd taste but whatever one they use is great. Downstairs is strictly the ordering areas and there is some outdoor seating, but they have a pretty large upstairs with lots of seats for studying, hanging out, working or whatever you may want to do. The food and the coffee here are actually pretty good, but the service and the speed at which your order arrives is upsetting. The service isn't terrible, it's just confusing. With the long lines, you pretty much have to wait outside until your order is called. However, you don't really know when that occurs do your food just sits there if you're not diligent in checking every so often. The hardest pill to swallow is the wait time. I was in the area for work and got a little hungry. Based on the good reviews and the distance, I decided to give this place a shot. I was totally not disappointed, the Black Forest ham was super delicious and the ingredients were super fresh. The tomatoes, avocado and the ham was super delicious. When you order the sandwich, it comes with a mini garden salad which was cool. The only downfall of my review was the line. I ordered my food around 10:30am, which at that time the place was not so busy, I literally had to wait around 35 minutes to get my food. The price was also well worth the cost. With around $10, you are getting a super fresh, health sandwich with a small salad at the side. The staff were super friendly taking my order and the atmosphere was super welcoming. Great study location 2-min from the water, and it was worth walking that extra mile from the bus stop in 80-degrees weather. Food: huge portions for the price, almost unheard of on the west side. I ordered off the eggs menu, and it lasted me until late dinner. I don't drink coffee, but a lot of people seemed to love them for those. I ordered a tropical smoothie for about $6 - overpriced and small. I would've been better off getting a smoothie from Jamba Juice. Pricing: Incredibly reasonable for Venice, especially right off the beach. Seating: downstairs is loud, because of the line and people hustling behind the counter. There's bar seating facing outside, great for casual coffee and people watching. There's plentiful seating upstairs, some closer to natural sunlight and even more in the back where there were outlets for working. **the annoying thing about coming in the summer is the heat and flies. My smoothie must have been incredibly fresh because it quickly colonized by fruit flies in the time I took to blink (~30 minutes, really). We just finished our lunch there and my husband went to the restroom where he met a gray haired guy with these big scull rings on his fingers. The guys who work here are nice and they provide good customer service, but the coffee is garbage. The coffee tastes burnt and for iced drinks they use these barbershop striped paper straws that fall apart after 10 minutes inside your drink and/or make your coffee taste like paper. The chocolate croissant was average, probably worse than one from Starbucks. I think this place is only in business because of its location right near the beach. There aren't many other options nearby for people walking or biking in the neighborhood. Avoid this place if you're looking for good coffee. It will be a waste of money. We waited an unusually long time just to order our breakfast. In spite of being understaffed, the food was delicious. My daughter and I each had an açaí bowl (I got the nutty protein; she got the Amazonian). They were the largest servings I have ever seen and they were absolutely delicious! This, I guess, helped to justify the high price tag. I also ordered a large coffee and noticed that the menu board pointed out that each coffee comes with one free refill. As we prepared to leave I thought "I could use a little more coffee" so I went to the counter and asked if he would mind refilling my cup. His response was "sure, but you will need to get back on line." I took a look at the line, estimated it to be 45 minutes, and walked away. I don't think you should advertise a free refill but not make it accessible to customers. A 45 minute wait to refill your cup is simply inhospitable and poor customer service. Without this SNAFU, I would have rated the cow's end four stars. This unfortunate ending brings them down to two stars - I would not recommend this establishment. But if you need a cup of coffee - Starbucks is just down the street and the service is reliable! read more
