We took friends to dinner here, and wow, everyone was blown away by how great the food and the service was! Our friends were still talking about dinner the next morning and can't wait to come back the next time they are in town. Great job Josh and The Crossing crew - you knocked it out of the park!!

This review is long overdue considering we cam in February (whoops!) This is a celebration/special occasion spot for sure, but your money will be well spent and every bite is worth it. As we were celebrating my birthday, we opted for the "Premium Tasting Menu" with wine pairing. Though not stated on the menu, you can swap in the majority of the dishes from the a la carte menu. Menu highlights for me included the Spanish octopus & the quail. At the recommendation of our server, we tried the Lemon Semifreddo for dessert and were pleased. No dish was bad though, unless you are absolutely opposed to some flavor I don't think you can go wrong. Other special touches: a card at the table wishing me a happy birthday and a bonus sample of the octopus since we had mentioned to our server we wanted to try it. Our server was top notch - perfectly attentive, provided good advice, and didn't rush us. I loved the art (from a local artist) around the restaurant, and our table in a small nook was a fun spot. Next time we have reason to celebrate I'd put this at the top of the list to return.

I have been here before, but I haven't reviewed it. This place is fantastic!! Its located in downtown Clayton and has valet parking right in front of the restaurant. Its relatively small inside, but cozy. A nice touch - is they offer a free coat check, so you don't have to carry your bulky coats to the table. The service here is really outstanding- but I think a huge benefit is they cook seed oil free- meaning everything is cooked either in butter or olive oil. They source local ingredients- rotate lots of different seasonal specials and also have a chefs tasting menu. You can really tell they care about food quality here. Many of us did go with the Chefs Tasting menu which they are also very flexible about- meaning if a special isn't on the menu you can subsitute it, etc. You truly could put together your own tasting menu. They start the table with crackers and a blue cheese souffle. Then they also offer a plain bread with butter which is amazing! Such a nice touch! Then we got stone crab as an appetizer - which was a special and came with a mustard dipping sauce!! It was great- I just wished they cracked the stone crab a bit more as it was hard to get into. We got a variety of menu and special dishes- Tuna Tartare, Soup of the day- Mushroom, Mixed Green Salad, Spanish Octopus, Pasta special, Sea Bass special, Missouri Trout, and Porkbelly Special. We also had a Chai Creme Brulee for dessert. Everything tasted fresh and high quality. This is one of my favorite spots! I also love how they will bag your leftovers and leave them up front by the coat check so you grab it on the way out. They think of all the little details here. Overall experience 5/5.

There is nothing happier than a French girl at a French restaurant eating foie gras and cheesy bread. This is to say, I loved this restaurant. Perfect date night spot. The vibe is definitely classy, and you want to dress up. Our waiter was SO friendly and we quickly had a good rapport with him. You can order a la carte here or get the tasting menu. I recommend the tasting menu. For value, it's pretty great, and you get to try a lot more things (especially if you and your partner get different things and split). We each got the 4-course tasting menu, at around $75 per person with some upcharges for certain items, allowing us to try 8 dishes. ALSO, they came out with complimentary crostinis and melted cheese, as well as bread and butter, before our courses began coming out. I'll give a brief description and rating of each course, but I'll just say that generally, you likely can't go wrong here. Steak Tartare: 5/10 - I love steak tartare but the ratio of yolk to meat was too high. The steak was fresh and tasty, though. Also a hefty portion for a starter. Beet Salad: 8.5/10 - Loved this! It comes presented in a unique "layered" style, and the interplay of the creamy goat cheese and crunchier beets is awesome. Foie gras: 9/10 - Like I said, I just love foie gras. It's rare that places do it well without turning it into a paste. This is where it's at. And pairing it with berries is something I do when I make it at home too, so overall, big win. I do think this is a special, though, so unfortunately may not be available always. Escargot: 8/10 - This was a fun take on escargot, as you usually just see it in garlic butter. This had a bit of a different sauce, thicker and emulsified. The escargot were also well cooked and not too chewy. Quail: 8/10 - Surprisingly had a good portion of quail meat, which can sometimes be hard to find with this foul. The butternut squash and mushrooms on the side felt like a good umami coupling to the less rich meat, which itself was super moist1 Steak: 7/10 - Not the best steak. We got it rare which it was, but even then, the meat itself was so soft and squishy that it was a bit texturally weird. I normally get steak "Pittsburgh" style, so it's not an issue of it being too "rare." Otherwise, the mashed potatoes on the side were SO good we couldn't get enough. Chocolate Torte: 9/10 - YUMMY! If you like chocolate, you like this. The fudginess of this torte is so lovely. And with the vanilla gelato, you can't go wrong! Chai creme brûlée: 7/10 - A bit soupy for my liking, but the chai flavor, while subtle, was fun and unique.

Always a great experience. Excellent service and excellent food. This spot continues to be a favorite for special occasions. One of the best restaurants in St. Louis.

Wowwwwww. I'll start with that. I was looking for a good spot for our first wedding anniversary and this spot kept coming up in recommendations. There's a reason for that. We made a reservation and they had a cute little note at the table for us. The service was incredible all night. We were so amazed at how well we were taken care of - not just by our waitress but the bar staff, kitchen, literally never went without anything. We did the grand tasting menu and holy. Moly. This was one of the best meals we've ever had. Truly. I'll try to remember all the courses - Tuna tartare with creme fraiche for our first course, seared cod (I'm not a huge fish eater but woah), whitefish stew (flaky fish), house made pasta which was incredible, tender duck, local beef, dessert. So much food, we did not go hungry. Everything was so well spiced, sauced, and cooked to perfection. This is definitely a splurge meal, we shared a bottle of wine and with tip it was upwards of $500 but for our first anniversary it was 100% worth it. Highly recommend for your next big celebration.

    Delicious food, wine and bread!

Wow!! This place completely exceeded my husband and I's expectations! We got lucky and they had a cancellation on a Saturday night! The minute we walked in we were blown away by the service and attention to detail. The wait staff was fabulous and our server Joseph was exceptional. He made fantastic recommendations, wine and food!!! It was the best meal we've had in years, if not ever. Do yourself a favor and come try this restaurant. You will not be disappointed!!

One of the very best dining experiences I've ever had! We enjoyed the 8 course tasting menu with wine pairing and every single course was full of flavor and unique in some way. It was our first time eating here, so it was such a great way to try many of their menu favorites. And I loved that they didn't bring us both the same thing for each course, allowing us to try even more! The wines were paired perfectly, too. Our server was also fantastic. Can't wait to eat here again!

I have been to the Crossing two times now and both visits have been fantastic. This visit was to celebrate a birthday so we did the chefs grand tasting. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is somewhat small so reservations are recommended. Service is quality with both servers and assistance helping out with Plate delivery and keeping your table clear. The food is always an experience here and allows you to step out of your comfort zone and enjoy every moment of it. I would definitely recommend the wine pairing with it

This is definitely a place to celebrate a special occasion or to have just an all around great meal with great service. When you first walked in you are greeted by the hostess and if you have a reservation (and you do need reservations here on the weekend) they walk you to your table. It is a classy feel with white tableclothes and proper silverware that they refresh after each course. We alway get the tasting menu (4 courses) which is a great way to get a taste of so much of their good food. It is smaller plates than their regular menu but you will definitely be full by the end of the night. They also have a great bar and wine selection. Their menu changes based off the season. Usually they do have the Tagliatelle with beef ragu bolognese which is amazing. Ask the waiter/waitress for their suggestions and guidance, we have never been steered wrong. Also if you like the complimentary cheese souffle they give you at the beginning you can order another one. Overall we try to come here a couple times a year. It is highly recommended.

Girl Dinner October 2025: The Crossing in Clayton We did the prixe fixe tasting menu for $75 each... First Course we opted for: Roasted Beet Salad - Goat cheese, mascarpone, toasted pine nuts, shallots, sherry vinegar. (I dont normally care for beets but this was delicious!) Hamachi Crudo* - Lemon zest, chives, wasabi creme, trout roe, chili oil. (I could eat this every day!) Second Course: Spanish Octopus - Tonnato, basil, English peas, smoked potatoes, arugula, pickled peppers, balsamic reduction. (I LOVE octopus but this one left me slightly underwhelmed. It was a little overcooked and chewy.) We also had chefs creation spinach cannoli but I don't recall how it was made. Main course we opted for Missouri Grassfed Prime NY Strip with Pomme purée, broccoli, carrots, bone marrow butter Plus Nantucket Sea Scallops with Crushed potatoes, shiitake mushrooms, romaine, Parmigiano-Reggiano, lemon truffle. I was so full after this and didn't get pics of the desserts but none of them wowed us. Overall really good. Our hostess was amazing. The space was packed but didn't feel crowded.

I enjoyed an excellent birthday meal here back in April! My mom found the restaurant online, and thought it looked great for a special occasion. She was definitely right! The environment is unique-- upscale and refined yet very comfortable! Our server was very friendly without crowding us, and gave us great service throughout the evening. I opted for the tasting menu, which I thought was an excellent value at $65. They said the portions would be a little smaller than ordering each course a la carte, but I have a pretty big appetite and was totally satisfied. Of note was their delicious mushroom tagliatelle, which I had as my second course. But every course was excellent, from their complimentary homemade bread to the warm chocolate torte! I'd highly recommend The Crossing for a special dinner, or just a nice night out!

The bar was also full, by the way, which felt neighborhood like, people clearly like this place during happy hour. The old fashioned makes the case: Old Grand-Dad Bonded, pickled rye, cognac, butterscotch bitters. Two whiskeys and a bitter you won't find at an actual dive. Rich, a little sweet. The harissa deviled eggs keep going -- fried shallots, roasted red peppers, cilantro, marinated tomato jam. You know, just like the old dive with the $1 PBR.Deviled eggs for people that don't like deviled eggs. However, we love deviled eggs...foreshadowing. The short ribs are the headline -- fall-apart tender over whipped potatoes substantial enough to stand up to the meat, gravy spot on. Eats like a perfectly executed roast dinner. The brie burger is the sneaky second hit, genuinely decadent, bacon with the cheese melting into the beef. The service was good and pleasant and that felt more like dive-friendly, where you might expect a wine "bar" to be snooty or full of themselves. 4.4 Stars Picking Nits: hip deviled eggs that reach past what they can hold. Tomato jelly on top is a lot going on, in the wrong way, and the egg disappears under it. These are trying to be hip deviled eggs more than they're trying to be good deviled eggs. Every ambitious kitchen has one plate that tries too hard; this appears to be one. A 5 needs those eggs landing, in the same way the entrees excelled. Regardless, we'll be back.

That's the vibe. We started on the front patio on a Friday night and quickly realized we'd made a mistake. The doors to the interior were open and the music -- a rock-forward playlist that night -- was loud enough that we considered bailing. Our server, was unbothered when we asked to move up to the rooftop. Where we met with a new bartender and server, London, who rolled with it, got us resettled, and from that point on the night was great. London was clearly handling the bar and most of the rooftop tables, but she was attentive throughout, and made eye contact, which seems a near miracle from many 20-something these days. Bumping the score up just for the flexibility on the table move alone. The food: crab cakes were genuinely good, not life-changing, but well above the weak-crab-cake bar that exists in most of the world, served simply with capers and a small salad. I went off-script and ordered the wagyu burger medium rare with fontina (London mentioned cheddar is the more common pick, but the Fontina offerd a great alternative). The burger was deeply flavorful and cooked exactly right, but here's my one real note for the kitchen: toast the brioche bun. Wagyu medium-rare puts out a lot of juice, and an untoasted bun loses its structural integrity about three bites in. A quick toast would let the bun keep some additional integrate and keep up with the perfectly cooked beef. The pom buff were great, the best elevated patato tots you may come by. Beyond what we ordered, the Greek salad is a longtime go-to -- chopped, with grape leaves and pita, available in a small or large, and easily dressed up into a light meal with or without adding some protein or can be share as a self-dress bruschetta appetizer for the group if you ask for extra bread. The cheese boards are also a reliable pick. The wine list is extensive (it's a wine bar, after all), but they don't sniff at cocktails -- I had a solid fine old fashioned, and my wife shared had a Malbec that paired well with everything. Lots of gluten-free options across the menu, too. What Sasha's gets right is that it has refused to become precious. "Wine bar" reads as pretentious to some people, but this place runs as a neighborhood spot. You'll see college kids dressed way down, couples on dates dressed way up, Hawaiian shirts, oversized sweaters, the full range. Different times of day, different vibes -- always approachable. 4.7 stars. Ambiance was cozy and inviting. Server was knowledgeable and efficient. Clearly several regulars were in that night as both the servers and chefs/cooks interacted in a friendly manner. We both started with Spinach Salads, which were basic, but good. I had the Peppercorn Filet and my wife had the Cajun Shrimp. My steak was great and came with mashed potatoes and green beans. Shrimp dish was not spicy, but had good flavor. It also came with mashed potatoes. No dessert. Finally, pretty reasonable prices for a nice weekday dinner in Clayton.

This makes me so nervous because what if no seats are open when it's my turn to sit down! LOL. There was no problem finding a table inside. Every item I ordered was 5 stars!! The umami omelette was delicious. Do not be alarmed by the mustard! It works! It's great. The hibiscus tea and lemonade was refreshing! Very light flavors and not too sweet. THESE ARE DEFINITELY AT THE TOP OF THE PANCAKE LIST IN ST. LOUIS. Fluffy, delicious, a true house-made batter. I'd prefer actual blueberries instead of the blueberry brown butter.

They have menus to peruse at the start, and you can view the baked goodies in the case before you get to the order station! counter person behind the register is great, he was friendly and answered questions without batting an eye! Very important for the first interaction! So many things looked good and I decided on the Umami Omelet with bacon, and a regular drip coffee. Food was delivered by maybe a dedicated food runner? We were sitting on the patio, and she seemed to drop everyone's food off. She wasn't all that friendly. When I saw the omelette, I thought I wished I would have asked for the sauce on the side (for reheating, I would find it wasn't an issue!), The bacon was inside the omelette! So unexpected but so delicious! I would order this again and again. All the flavors were perfect together. When we were ready to leave, I still had lots of coffee left and wanted to take it with me, the lady inside manning the register was so nice! She filled me a new cup and we were on our way. This is always a spot you can count on for good food and quickly and so nice to sit on the patio!

Wow. It is easy to see why Charlie Gitto's has garnered 4 1/2 stars overall on this site. It was…read morethat good. I was taught by brother that you should book your first dinner reservation as after flying all day, one is tired, and not able to make good decisions...hence eating at a TGI Fridays in New Orleans on our first night. I have heard about that since. Charlie's had the perfect vibe going as it has a great reputation. Wendy was also simply amazing and shared may stories of St Louis and was just a tremendous server. The only thing that tricked us was the Toasted Ravioli. It has meat in it, and my wife is vegetarian. The Arancini was terrific and the table bread was also quite tasty. My wife had the Manicotti and I had the Chicken Lemonata. So great. The bottle of the house Gitto's Red was the perfect wine as well. A great experience at a restaurant that is a legend in St. Louis and I am glad it was our first meal in the city.

Although claiming to have invented the toasted ravs, really did not enjoy them. Caprese salad was good for this time of year- early June. My go to meal to rate Italian restaurants is chicken Marsala, and was unfortunately the worst. Chicken was overcooked, rather tasteless and hard to cut. Very little sauce, but good mushrooms. Side of red pasta helped but was too sweet.
