I have been DYING to try The Cuban once I found out it finally opened on Bell Blvd. Being that I am Cuban I absolutely love authentic delicious Cuban food and always on the hunt for a great spot. First of all the set up and decor outside is so inviting and beautiful with the hot pink painted exterior with the little palm tree next to the name and the salsa music blasting as you pass by! The staff is very friendly, unfortunately since we cannot dine inside yet we had to settle on take out but boy were we not disappointed!!!!! I am very particular with my ropa vieja and do not like when it is in a soup broth base. This ropa vieja was tender and flavorful with all the wonderful Cuban spices and flavors. The empanadas were my favorite appetizer hands down!!! The flour was so flaky and crispy yet soft and hot on the inside and the chicken was amazing!!! I can't stop talking about the flavors especially the Habana dipping sauce. The black bean and corn salad was so big and definitely good to share for two it was also delicious. The quesadilla with the sweet plantains and the chicken with cheese gave it a sweet taste that I have never had before in a quesadilla, what a treat! Lastly the Cuban sandwich which I am also very particular with, however, of course it did not fail! The pork was cooked so perfectly, tender, and juicy. If you're looking to come here for brunch on a Saturday and have a great time.... DO NOT COME HERE!!!!! Me and my friends which were a group of about 14 people made a reservation for 1pm about 9 of us got here on time Which was at 1pm and the other 5 got here about 15 mins late and they only Give A 5 MINUTE grace period. While at the same time they have no valet, and no available parking lot so that 5 minute grace period is BS and inconsiderate. Most of us on one side of the restaurant ordered the steak and eggs we all ordered different ways to get it done (medium rare, well done, medium) ALL of the steaks were "well done" , felt boiled and were so rubbery I could of used it as a spare tire. This place has excellent food, enjoyed fresh guacamole made right in front of you on a pushcart. The empanadas were excellent and the skirt steak is so tender and juicy. The only issue or problem, at 7pm they had a DJ who was blasting music upstairs so loud, myself and other guests were no longer able to hear each other speak. So we basically rushed out because it was unbearable. We also had kids at our table, which they didn't enjoy this over the top loud music. On top of that, they had these beautiful women, half naked, dancing around the tables. I think it would be awesome and perfect if it was a bachelor party or strip club, but there were families there and not sure if it was suitable. If I could give zero stars I would. Made reservations for 5, my son included (6yo), we were sat upstairs, nice booth area, plenty of space for our group. We figured they forget or didn't hear us over the music blasting super loud. We proceeded to order our entrees and waited close to an hour for them. They brought us an order of guac and chips while we waited and stated it was on the house because their kitchen was experiencing issues and our food would be coming out soon. We ordered a second round of drinks and they brought us the wrong ones, we asked for them to be corrected, and waited over 30 min for that to happen. I guess their bar was experiencing issues too. We finally got our entrees, no complaints there. Aside from the horrible service and super delayed entrees, they brought out women in thong lingerie dancing and twerking all over the place, I wasn't aware this restaurant turned into a raunchy establishment after 8PM. They had salsa dancers earlier, which was nice and appropriate for families, the lingerie thong dancers were not. The hostess did not make us aware of this because had we known about it, we would've left because we were with a 6yo. Before asking to speak to the manager, one of the waitresses came to our table and said are you leaving or need to pack to go with a nasty attitude I gave her the benefit of the doubt and asked her to repeat herself and she proceeded to be rude and nasty, pretty much rushing as out as if she needed the table. We were still waiting for our drinks at this point. I asked for the manager and that was a huge waste of time. The manager tried to blame the waiter saying he was new, he said the dancers were normal for Friday nights, we should've known yet no one told us about this when we checked in. Had been a frequent costumer at the Cuban for a year, going for Brunch, Lunch, and Dinner with my husband, sometimes even twice a week. Unfortunately our experience today was not a good one. Husband and I had planned on having a spontaneous Brunch date. What better place than the Cuban? We went on their website already planning on what we were going to order and noticed the Bottomless promo that they have. Which gives us a 90min limit. On their website it says brunch ends at 3pm. We made our way and got there at 2:30pm. Eager to order food and drinks, we told the bartender we wanted the bottomless promo. She said that we only had 30min to drink unlimited. What? She said that both the bottomless and brunch end at 3pm. That if we wanted the 90min limit, we should have gotten there at 1:30pm. Makes no sense at all. Had we known that, we would have gone some place else. Who wants to chug as much mimosas as they can in 30min and then be falling off their chair before you even get your food. Anyhow. Huge let down. Always loved this place until recently. My friend and I weren't aware it was happy hour and found out after we were seated and ordered a pitcher. We kindly asked the waitress to not make the pitcher and wanted to be moved to the bar for happy hour, if it wasn't too much trouble. She was kind and said it wasn't an issue. We ALSO did say to her if the pitcher was already made, we'll still pay for it so we won't inconvenience the staff... The manager personally comes up to us at the bar and tries to embarass us by exclaiming' 'SO you girls make us make you a pitcher and then want us to dump it because you decide to sit at happy hour? WOW.' I said, "excuse me? No one communicated to us that the pitcher was made or there was even an issue? We already told them if it was we will gladly drink & pay for it if it's a problem, but as far as you not knowing what's going on, talk to your staff because that is their responsibility to communicate this to you, not ours..' Went for brunch with my friends. The hostess was a little cold, but whatever. We ordered unlimited drinks for brunch & my friend unknowingly ordered a Bloody Mary, she didn't like it & the waitress kept saying she had to finish the drink before she was able to get a different drink. So I really don't understand what that was about. I ordered steak and eggs & requested for the eggs to be on a separate plate because I am allergic to them. When I got my food of course the eggs and steak were on the same plate. When I brought it to the waitress' attention she didn't really care. She did bring it back to the kitchen to "fix the problem" however, I am 98% sure they just separated the food in the kitchen and didn't make a new steak because my throat has not stopped itching since & my steak was cold as if it had been sitting somewhere strictly for dramatic effect. My friend also order eggs a specific way & he did not receive what he asked for due to a mistake in the kitchen. When he brought it to the waitress' attention she said "my chef is picky I'm not sure if he'll want to fix it." Huh??? What do you mean he won't WANT to fix it? I had called the place and spoke to somebody there and told them that the portions of my dishes were about half of what they normally give. I was very disappointed because I don't mind spending more but I refuse to get less while spending more. Went for happy hr. You can only get deals if you are sitting in the bar area. Meanwhile, the place was completely empty. I ordered a house vodka and soda, calamari, and pork sliders. The food was so salty I couldn't even eat it. The music was so loud you could barely hear yourself think. The bill came and bartender charged me for a Tito's and soda $15. I know my vodka. So I questioned the bill. She insisted it was Tito's. Total BS. Then the owner/mgr whoever he claimed to be, tried to make it right by giving me and my friend a shot of tequila. My son and his friends went to The Cuban to celebrate their friend's birthday. They made a reservation for ten people for outdoor seating. When they arrived they were treated rudely by the hostess who looked at them and told them they didn't have a reservation and she could not seat them. She told them they can wait she took their phone number and said she would call when a table was available. The boys waited over one hour and she didn't call, they then headed back to the restaurant and asked if a table was ready for them. The hostess was extremely rude to them and acted as if she didn't want to seat them. Finally she had a table put together and they were seated. She then made inappropriate comments to them about their age and then went to each server and pointed out the boys to them. After the meal, when the check was given to the table, my son told me the hostess and servers surrounded the table as if they were going to skip out on the check!!! I was extremely upset when my son came home and told me how they were treated, they are paying customers and just because she thought they were young she felt she could treat them with such disrespect and rudeness?? Her behavior is completely unacceptable, I was so upset I called and spoke to the manager Javier and made sure he was aware of this incident. His response was that he knew of the party which indicates he condoned the hostess' behavior towards them and did nothing to stop this discrimination at the time. We live in Bayside and the restaurant should know the clientele which includes many teenage groups who dine frequently at all the restaurants on Bell Blvd. I will definitely not give my business to this restaurant nor will any other parents if this is the way they discriminate based on a customers age, this hostess should not be in any type of hospitality job if she feels it is appropriate to be rude to customers who are 16 years old and speaks to customers like she did tonight. She saw a group of boys and automatically made an assumption about them which is terrible. The meal cost a couple of hundred dollars and this is the way they were treated tonight I find this absolutely disgusting!
