I don't know why the reviews aren't higher for this place. Me and a friend came here and got Cuban sandwiches for us, and ham and cheese for the kids. Both were really good. It takes a while for your food to be ready, but that just means it's made fresh. read more

Great little place! We stopped in here to get a afternoon pick me up of Cafe Con Leche! The employees were very friendly and the coffee was great! Prices weren't that bad given the location- a large cafe con leche was 3.99 or so but it was huge! It reminded me of a small authentic cuban place down in Miami. read more

So this is a very basic little, off the beaten track, Cuban snack shop. They do not pretend to be anything more! It is a modest and tidy little place with Afro Cuban music playing and solemn, shy yet friendly staff. This is not Miami, so set your expectations accordingly. I had a few croquettes and a media noche sandwich. And they were pretty darn good. I enjoyed my meal and then even had a guava and cheese pastry. In the great state of Florida, Puerto Sagua in South Beach and La Terracita in downtown Tampa are hard to beat. But I think in time, this little place will keep improving. Food was good. Had tasty Cuban sandwiches and a beef and a chicken empanada. They do serve beer. Only thing was the wait to get sandwiches was 40 minutes due to a table of 10 that came before us. Ate out on the patio very pleasant. read more

The restaurant is located in the Spanish Quarters in The Old City in St. Augustine. The dining area is kind of limited in space but in contrast it is well decorated with Cuba pictures as well Cuban Culture (Saints and Afro-Caribbean culture.). Besides that the food is made to order, there is no longer waits for main dishes, however they had a good varieties of "empanadas" turn overs. We had Cuban Sandwich. The ingredients were fresh. Good flavor. the only no-no I found was that the sandwich "Cubano" was not really an authentic "Cubano one". We will stay in search mode for the authentic "Cubano" Sandwich" . Not what I expected. Coming from Miami I have a bar in place for Cuban food, even quick bites. The best thing we had was the Materva. The sandwiches had very little meat and for the first time ever my kids didn't eat their pan con croquetta. Prices were low. read more

My children (10 & 12) and I popped in here for lunch yesterday. We ordered the roast pork sandwich, beans and rice, beef empanadas, and the homemade flan. The prices were very reasonable and the service was quick. We all tried each other's food, and everybody loved everything! I only gave this place one star because zero wasn't an option. Absolutely no one in the place, ordered ONE empanada and literally sat there while the two people who work there played on their phone, then both made one coffee for another customer who happened in. One, because I couldn't give it less. This was my second attempt at this place. On my first try, waited in line long enough to know that it was not moving and that seated people were waiting longer than they wanted to. Today, I just wanted cafe con leche. The people there had already been served. I ordered, paid, and tipped for a cafe con leche. Two more people came in and ordered. Still no drink. Two more people came in and ordered. Still no drink. Guy at the register is completely involved with his phone. Second people received food and beverage order. Still no drink. Last group to order received food and beverage. Still no drink for me. Asked the guy what happened. He acted like I had never seen home before and asked what I meant. I reminded him of ordering, paying, and tipping. He offered to make the drink at that point. I had already exhausted my time for coffee and my patience. I left. I won't be back. I live here I will tell others. My unsolicited advice to the owners - step it up or you will fail here. read more

Having not eaten in St Augustine for a while I'm always looking for new places to try. Today's choice was the Cuban Cafe. So being a cuban restaurant you feel kind of obligated to order the cuban sandwich. We did and needing to wash up before eating I asked where the restroom was? Looking around the place that is maybe 20'x 20' in all. The restroom was down the hall and across the street. Heck it would have been closer if I would have walked back to the store I'm working at. Our sandwiches came out in little tubs and I will say that they were on the small size. Maybe 5" long and pressed hard. The bread crust was really hard. There was the right meats onside just not much of it. Ham some pork and mustard swiss cheese and some pickles. The lady behind the counter was not very pleasant and the man making the sandwiches didn't speak english. Maybe that was a good thing being in a cuban sandwich shop. The dessert looked pretty good and I might try them if I come back in. So I will continue my search for something tasty to eat around st. George street. read more

We stopped in for a snack while walking around. Good coffee but not excellent. The guava pastry was nice. The beef empanadas was stale. The prices are good but not really worth stopping in with so many other bakeries around. Expesinsive for what it is. There's no enough chairs, food is expensive, meat has no flavor and portions are too little.

These are the worst empanadas on the planet. Absolutely revolting. How u can be Cuban or Colombian or latino/a and mess up an empanada this bad is riveting. $3.50 for that little pocket of soggy mush. Got my 14 yr old a churro and he said "not great". So while that is more like a 2 star endorsement, that they could not even score well on a piece of deep fried dough covered in sugar makes this place a depressing one star hot mess. read more

You're probably better off getting the food made to order rather than purchasing from the heater thing upfront. I tried the cheese empanada and it wasn't as fresh as I would have liked. The Cuban expresso hits the spot though. It is just the right amount of sweetness. If you want Cuban food fast in the historic town, this could be an option...
