Stumptown coffee: So robust, you'll either hug a J-tree or start a philosophy rant in 5 minutes. Wait Time Bring a book--or five. You might become one with your avocado panini before it arrives. But once that first bite happens, the wait feels justified. If you want the food quicker, they have a to-go satellite store right across the road (Psst! I perfer this one) Vibe & Staff Friendly like they're thrilled you survived the desert just to worship their sandwiches. Takes away that "I'm stranded in the Mojave" feeling. Pros: Gourmet food packaged like a hug. Stumptown coffee that actually wakes you up. Compact and Instagram-able. Cons: It's small. Unless you're a solitary yogi, seating might be a mission. Wait times can rival a snail marathon. They function at desert speed--don't expect Starbucks efficiency. Final Verdict: If you want to feel like a snack king or queen in the middle of the desert--and you don't mind looking like you wrestled a giant croissant--stop here. There might be a line (in fact, there probably will be!) but don't let that deter you from stopping by. I was just here about 15 minutes ago, and I have to say the lack of customer service was pretty surprising, especially for such a busy place where you'd think customer experience would be a priority. When I walked in, there were two lines and everyone behind the counter seemed busy. I wasn't sure which line was for ordering, so I asked someone else in line. They explained that the other line was for waiting on drinks, so I stepped aside and got into the correct line to order. I stood there for about five minutes and the cashier never acknowledged me, not even a quick "I'll be right with you." I eventually had to walk up and ask if that was where orders were taken. She confirmed it and said she'd be with me in a second. When I started ordering, I asked about their macchiato drinks. The cashier (a brunette) gave me a really unpleasant look, looked me up and down, and told me they didn't have what I wanted but that I could try something else. Her reaction honestly threw me off, so I decided to skip getting a drink altogether. There were a lot of items on the menu I was excited to try, but the cashier's attitude completely ruined the experience and made me feel like I was bothering her just by being there. I ended up paying about $30 for two Dez Club sandwiches, which is a bit on the pricey side. The sandwiches themselves were good, no complaints there--but because of how I was treated, I would not come back again. SERVICE (5/5) only 4 people are allowed in the store at a time, so the wait was long. my order was wrong, but it was fixed super quickly. friendly service! The person who handed over our order said yes to no bacon in food. :( for some people being vegetarian is more than just the choice of eating meat or not for some it can be religious. SAUSAGE ROLL - only had chicken or beyond beef. Got the chicken. The crust was not flaky. And the sausage meat had a casing, which is not authentic. It's supposed to be ground sausage without the casing. It was nice that it came with sauce though. SERVICE - it was busy, took a solid 15-20 min to get food. I think the owner is Aussie or Kiwi! AMBIANCE - it is TINY!!!! It's a takeaway place. Don't sit down here. But a big one is opening up across the street. OVERALL - nice place to get takeaway if you don't want to sit down. Came here to get our morning coffee and we really loved the espresso here! I tried an iced lavender latte and it was amazing!! My friend tried an iced mint latte and it was very....different. The mint sweetener wasn't great and kinda tasted like toothpaste. Something was just off. But they do have great espresso and great little food options to take out. read more

Joshua Tree Coffee across the street only had coffee drinks and I was in need of an alt caffeine fix. I saw a sign for the Dez offering matcha so I made the (dangerous) run across the street for it. The Dez is a cute and tiny shop with made to order drinks along with premade sandwiches, pastries and salads. Great options for food on the go or a desert picnic. Located right off the highway, The Dez has a little bit of everything, including RTE salads, yummy rolls, quiches, slices of cake, a good selection of cheeses, cookies, packaged snacks, spices, drinks...the list goes on. We came in on a Monday late morning and enjoyed a sausage roll, "beyond" vegan sausage roll, bacon and cheddar quiche, two cheeses (a black truffle and a garlic block), and an almond joy date ball. We had our two kids with us, and they gave them each a chocolate chip cookie on the house - how nice! When we ordered our food, they asked if we wanted it warmed up, and they were able to warm up the kids' food just a little and ours piping hot - very considerate of them. Everything was very good! The puff pastry on the rolls was nice and flaky, and the meat had good flavor. The cheeses were amazing, and the date ball didn't last long at all. Service is great, staff are friendly & helpful, it can get pretty busy here. Patio seating is available if you have fur babies or (limited) seating inside. Big parking lot right in front so it makes it easy to find free parking & lots of cool places surrounding it to shop & walk around. Cutest shop in Joshua Tree! Got their summer strawberry matcha with oat milk and a breakfast panini on croissant. The drink was so refreshing, not overly sweet and the strawberries tasted super fresh. The breakfast panini was also unbelievably delicious! Came on a weekday at around 8AM and it wasn't busy.
