Really, really, really enjoyed this restaurant on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. This lady had to cure a hangover and a burger and fries was right up my alley... now mind you, we get there and find out they are only serving Brunch so I was a little upset, but then there was a glorious burger on the menu, which was then accompanied by a lovely Mimosa. I was set. Actually, all of us ordered the same thing, the District Burger with Truffle fries (GET THE TRUFFLE FRIES). They were perfectly seasoned and I devoured the garlic aioli as well. The burger is huge, so it is worth every penny. It was cooked to my liking and we didn't have much to say at lunch cause we were all stuffing our faces. Prices were not terrible, this is the Upper East Side, and a free Mimosa is always great. Atmosphere is cool, very open and has a lofty feel. Alas, my hangover was cured and I would come back here in a heartbeat whenever I am in NY. read more

I've been in twice in the last seven or eight months and still haven't made up my mind on whether this is a three or four star place but the food makes me lean toward a 4. So, there's that. If it's busy and you get a table be prepared for quick, friendly, exceptional service. The food is varied and the wine and beer lists have great offerings. The aesthetic is awesome with Edison lights in the mirrored ceiling and plants growing from the drawers that make up the back wall. You can eat outside, inside or at the large bar. The waitstaff knows the menu and is not afraid to help you make a decision - something that goes far with the crew I eat with on the UES who can never make up their minds. Where it gets a little weird is that if it's not busy, service is lacking. Weird, right? It's like everyone who works here works really well under pressure. Things are forgotten or take forever and service is just generally clunky when there's no crowd. My UES crew eats here fairly regularly and says that's de riguer. But if you can put up with asking for your drink two or three times (you can), the food makes it worth it. The veggie risotto is amazing, even for meat lovers, and the salmon burger is a fav. Food is fresh and beautifully prepared. My only gripe? The Boston lettuce in the Kathy's salad needs to be cut. Good lord, those huge leaves seriously detract from the experience. The positives are many and outshine the negatives, though, making this a spot to add to your "to try" list. read more

I came here for brunch. This place seems to be British because the waitresses were British and they had PIE for branch, as well as porridge. I stuck to the traditional eggs benedict which came with a bloody mary, which was ok. The potatoes were slightly overcooked . I like the decor of the place though, its pretty cosy inside! read more

I have been here multiple times but my last visit was not enjoyable AT ALL & will not be returning. The service for one is HORRIBLE and I noticed only with particular people. Waitress was very nice but did not take orders correctly. Sprite was basically water with lime. Wings were not tossed and came out with sauces on the side after we told the waitress we wanted it tossed and our artichoke dip was very watery & way too many artichokes in it. I ordered a burger and my fries were raw and sent it back and was still charged for whole entree. We were basically sat in the corner outside and was forgotten about. No one checked on us or asked if we needed anything. The waitress was sweet and the young guy who sat us down was very pleasant but that's about all so we didn't make a fuss & still tipped. I feel like it was completely wasted money. I liked this place but sadly will not be returning again. read more

I'm surprised by the lower ratings here. I would expect this place to average a solid 4 or 3.5 stars at least. Walked in and was happy to see no wait for seating. Was given a wobbly table to sit at, so we asked to move to the empty table next to us. They were happy to move us. But then they sat someone else at the wobbly table. That person complained and was seated at a booth. A few minutes later, another person was seated at the wobbly table. They really should fix their tables. The place has a good selection of beers and drinks. Went with some beer that has a long name and it was OK. I'm not a huge alcohol fan so beer is beer to me, unless it's piss beer - then I'll complain about it. The chicken pesto salad was a good size and filled me up. I got the chips as a side and it was pretty good. The truffle fries that I ordered as a side were ok - probably not worth ordering as a side unless you just happen to really enjoy truffle fries. Overall ambiance, food, and general value is good here. If you're the area, I can see this place becoming your go-to place. read more

Food ok. Environment run down. Service awful. Waitresses care more about talking among them and having their own party than doing their job. A member of the staff discharged a fire extinguisher and the staff instead of worrying or doing something (like opening a door or move the people, or even apologize) just laughed for minutes and a guy who seemed to be the manager and was a bit drunk was just saying "that's nothing! Nothing has happened". The dust from the extinguisher created a fog and we started coughing. The powder in the air was in our food and clothing. We stood up to pay and leave and instead of apologizing they just rudely told us to leave. Never again- there are similar options with better service not even 3 blocks again read more

Really interesting new upscale bar in the UES, decor was a mix between sports bar and...classy Viking warriors? Anyway, I want to come back to this place when they have their cocktail menu available. As of right now, I believe they are just doing simple well cocktails and beer. Good beer prices though, for the neighborhood. And yes, BELIEVE THE HYPE ABOUT THE SCALLOPS. I very hesitantly ordered the scallop dish after reading good things about it in a few promotional articles. I am so glad I did. The scallops were perfectly cooked, not rubbery or gummy like I would expect from a bar. I also sampled some of my friends mussels, and they were also delicious. Good to have some new things opening up, look forward to going back. read more

When it comes to the Upper East Side, especially above 82nd Street, I couldn't tell you much in terms of restaurants (south of Spanish Harlem, of course). Or bars. Or anything, for that matter... Sure, my friend, Brette, and Cousin Larry live up there, but we typically meet downtown. That was, until last Sunday, when Larry insisted upon brunch/lunch at his neighborhood's newest gastropub, The District, which hugs the corner of 94th Street/3rd Avenue. Having met in front of the restaurant promptly at 11am, I was we were disappointed to learn that it didn't actually open until noon. To kill time, we walked over to Asphalt Green so I that could check out the Olympic-sized indoor pool. We arrived at The District just before noon and were seated immediately. In terms of the aesthetic interior space, The District knocks it out of the park: High, antique mirrored-ceilings, exposed brick walls, floor-to-ceiling paned windows, and gothic/cathedral-inspired decor. *During brunch service, one Bloody Mary or Mimosa is included with your meal.* Since Larry instead opted for Diet Coke, I downed both my and his Mimosas. Coming in to the meal, there wasn't really a question as to what I would order. Larry had preached and swore up and down that The District was home to the city's *best* burger. And I wanted to see if he knew what he was talking about... It's as sexy as a cheeseburger could look - or sound - on a plate: Shredded romaine lettuce, a thick tomato slice, a ground brisket-patty encased in melted American cheese, caramelized onions, and a schmear of homemade garlic aioli were sandwiched between toasted brioche bun-halves. For a moment, I hesitated after telling the waitress that I'd like my burger cooked "medium." I just assumed that it would be served as I had requested. Alas...my patty was well-done. Sigh. Larry was also surprised to see that his patty was not cooked "medium rare." However, after one bite turned in to three, I decided that it would be too late to send my burger back to the kitchen. Plus, I had already eaten about half of my serving of, quite possibly, the best French fries this side of Pommes Frites. And the garlic aioli? Dynamite. While I was disappointed that both my and Larry's patties were cooked incorrectly, I would definitely return to The District to a) give the burger another chance (it has *major* potential if cooked properly), and b) to check out the after-work scene. Apparently, it's the place to be uptown! Even Urban Daddy says so! read more

The stars mostly go to the decor... I can't really describe it as any particular style... its just cool inside... has a spacious feel but cozy at the same time. They have some great beers on tap... particularly Ommegang Hennepin - amazing NY saison. The happy hour specials were not so good... $5 martinis & $5 Sam Adams. It would have been nice to have some of the other beers for happy hour price. The menu is small but extensive enough. The french onion soup was soooo disappointing. It seemed like sort of a deconstructed french onion soup... a big bowl of soup with a cheesy piece of soggy bread in the middle. My favorite part of the soup is the hot melted, bubbling cheese spilling over the sides of the bowl. This was definitely missing that. read more

I wanted to love this place, because we don't get a whole lot of new places in the neighborhood, but it was just sooo meh. Decor was nice, but then there was every sport imaginable on TV. Upscale-ish menu, so I was a little confused. Sports bar or restaurant? We overheard people at the next table saying the same thing. The service was slow and forgetful (we had to ask like three times for water) and the food was just okay. I won't be in a huge hurry to come back here. read more

The food was mediocre and the service was awful. Had broccoli and cheese soup that has no broccoli. The black bean veggie burger tasted awful. The wings were decent. The humus had so many olives in it that it spoiled the taste Service was just plain terrible. Waiter never checked on us, forgot drinks, and had little personality or value add. The place is pretty, so that's a plus. But AC wasn't truly strong enough for a humid day. We will never return. read more

WARNING this place is NOT a beer bar as it has been reported and as claimed! Upon arriving I noticed that the bar was very nicely designed and decorated and inviting, which is why I'm giving 2 stars rather than 1. The seats were very comfortable and there was a lot of room. We went in the late afternoon, before food service, so I can't comment on the food. However, the service and knowledge was not up to par for a beer bar--you expect servers who know what beer they have on tap and in cans/bottles and what their styles are. They don't know anything about beer here, except how to read a name on a label. STRIKE 1: I asked the "sassy" bartender if she could give me a beer menu and she said "There is no beer menu, but you can choose which beer there is from tap, or I can tell you what bottles we have." If you're claiming to have a great beer selection, you always have an updated beer menu (preferably broken down by style) to give to guests so they can decide on their own and not have to listen to a long list. It's annoying to have to listen to the whole list and then think back to what the server said in order to make your selection. STRIKE 2: The beer she rattled off was not impressive--the selection sounded like a beer list from the early 2000's (at best), not what you'd expect from a current beer bar. Very average. STRIKE 3: After listening to her tell me the bottle list and deciding that the selection stunk, I asked about the Captain Lawrence beer that was on tap, since I like a lot of their beers. I said, "Which Capt. Lawrence is that?" Sassy bartender's response: "Uuuuuh . . . which one? . . . It's the 'Original one'" And I said "There is no 'Original' . . . you don't know what kind it is?" . . . "I dunno," she says, as if I was being annoying, asking questions about a $9 beer . . . so, instead, I ordered a different beer that I could identify. While I was speaking with the bartender, there was also a group of drunk, middle-aged losers making fun of me for asking about what beer they had saying things like "Try this one {holding up the bottle} it's cold!" and "Who cares [what beer it is] as long as it gets you drunk!" I am a huge beer fan, and have loved the recent additions to the neighborhood, like CITY SWIGGERS, PONY BAR, JONES WOOD FOUNDRY, and PENROSE. These places, along with more established places like Cafe D'Alsace and B. Cafe, know what they are doing. The District seems to have taken notice of the recent craft beer craze and just claim that being a craft beer bar is their "thing." Let me make this clear so you don't get your hopes up and think you're going to a BEER BAR: This is a run-of-the-mill UES bar, masquerading as a more high-class beer and cocktail lounge. I hope they recognize their faults and change, because the venue itself is beautiful, but the execution is bad. read more

God has given me, a 50 yr old black woman the ability to walk thru walls and into establishments and NEVER BE SEEN! It does get lonely BUT let me tell you what I see: I sat down at a table that kept rocking cause the management has never sat at this table, because if they had they woulda put something under it to keep it from rocking. The District has BEAUTIFUL leaded glass windows. This and the smell of good beef is probably the only reason I came in. The leaded glass reminds me of the beautiful expensive houses in Pittsburgh, PA. I met a nice lady bartender, Ash B, with an Irish brogue and she INSISTED UPON COMING TO MY TABLE TO SERVE ME! Wake up America...our Irish sister gets it! She understands that she is in the service industry. I told her that I came in for the ribs that I saw on the app menu...She said where did you see that? I said outside on the menu...She said let's go outside and you can show it to me. I then went back outside in the cold and saw in pencil "Tuesdays Only" and we laughed together. When we went back inside I asked her if they had Red Berry Ciroc. She pointed it out and I told her I'd like that with ginger-ale. She served it to me and I was a VERY happy woman. An African American lady server came upstairs to serve a white couple not far from me. There was some small thing that the man did not like about his order, but she NEVER SMILED at me as she passed my table? Hmmm...Service industry? I told her that I did not want any salt added to my food if it was not too late to ask...Still no smile? The burger came and this is where my magic powers were really in effect! The male server came with MY PLATE and put it in front of a white woman at the end of the bar? My Irish bartender who had to also serve as my waitress quickly said to the young male server that the lady at the bar did not order the burger and Cesar salad. This is where RACISM IN AMERICA really shows it's ugly head. He walks right past my table and attempts to deliver my meal to an empty table? Again my Irish waitress comes to my rescue and says to him "there is NO ONE sitting at that table" she says that is for table 15. On the third try he delivers to my table: NO APOLOGY, NO SMILE, NO IDEA EVEN THAT HE HAS DONE SOMETHING VERY, VERY WRONG!!! I'll end this review with something that Thomas Jefferson said about the plight of Black people in America: He said Send them back to Africa, because they will NEVER GET A FAIR CHANCE HERE....HE WAS RIGHT!!!! This place is consistent to be really bad in many ways. Before writing this review I visited the bar 2 times and in all, they were bad. The first I fall for the look of the place. Wrong... bad service and vanilla food. The second time I was invited for drinks and the barman Mark proved to be one of the worst and most detestable persons I had the misfortune to come across. The third time I was invited again and I couldn't say no. We seated at the bar and there again, Mark gave us what I could easily say the worst service I've seen. How can this man have a job????? He was mean not only with me but he gave attitude to the couple next to me and to an old man in the other side. I will never comeback to this place, even if I get a invitation for free drinks. read more

Just went back today and there was only one Big not very friendly young woman that never bothered to bring a menu so I just crossed the street to the Barking Dog where there's always a friendly attitude and good food. No wonder they were full and the other one is empty. I guess management and owners were not there. They won't last long. We'll see. Meanwhile I'm eating a delicious sandwich across the street. read more

The ambience is pretty nice. The service is alright. We ordered cappuccinos and it took about 15 minutes to make and the foam was gone by the time they go to us. My only other complaint is that the potatoes have almost zero flavor. read more

This place is ok, food is average. Service here is HORRIBLE, bartenders and waitresses dont acknowledge you, I have been here about 5 times and I kept giving it a try because I live close by and sometimes I just want to grab a quick bite and drink. Never had a great experience, either they forgot my drink, or forgot the appetizers, or they forgot to tell the kitchen my allergies to tomatoes, etc etc in other words its a struggle every time. It amazes me that there are a lot of comments on Yelp about POOR SERVICE at this place but ownership/management doesnt seen to make an effort for improvement. Remember !! Bad word of mouth spreads FASTER than good word of mouth. read more

The District is a newer restaurant. My friend Phil H. had recently suggested we try it out for brunch. We decided hey why not since it's super-easy to get to. Luckily, we had a reservation or we would have been waiting for a bit. This place seems to get crowded on weekends, which is understandable considering they have decent prices for brunch. The first thing I noticed when we arrived was the decor. Old school lighting, a beautiful bar, a gorgeous ceiling (yes, I look at ceilings, hush). Everything was very, very pretty. Once we were seated, we were given the brunch menu and told brunch comes with a mimosa or a bloody mary. Phil and Stacey stuck with the drinks with Melissa F. and I were recovering from the night before, so we just got water. The brunch menu is pretty extensive. The burgers we saw looked amazing so Phil and Stacey got those, while Melissa and I got the yogurt. The yogurt we received was Greek yogurt (yesssss) topped with a generous portion of granola and berries. It was very tasty, as well as filling. The burgers were apparently very good, as well. The fries looked amazing. Service here is fast and friendly. Prices are fair. I would love to return for dinner one night or even just a drink at the amazing bar. They appear to have some great beers on tap. Definitely a must-try if you're in the area. read more

Easily the nicest-looking bar in the neighborhood, an appealing combo of classy, rustic, and cozy. Unfortunately for The District, looks aren't everything. We've been here a few times, with mixed results. The service has ranged from dismissive when it's busy to thoughtful when it's half-empty. It's not the kind of place where you feel taken care of, but maybe it's not supposed to be. The food is also hit or miss. The chicken sausage burger is sheer genius, totally original and delicious. And yet, the pub staples are barely worth eating: mac and cheese was one-dimensional soup and the fries were just filler. I'm still willing to give this place another try. Maybe I'm shallow, but sometimes you just can't resist a pretty face. read more

The just OK bar food at The District is helped by a very interesting restoration of an old space, which balances hip touches like plenty of glass and filament bulbs with dark wood, wrought-iron and molding from a much older space. It's funny that a place so far from the traditional "Upper East Side" takes its name from an old nickname. The classic Silk Stocking district this is not. Thankfully the owners haven't taken the nickname terribly literally, as there's none of the overly fussy continental cuisine one imagines being preferred those who actually wore silk stockings back in the day (and perhaps still are). Arriving late on a Friday and after a few drinks, I ate far too many of the somewhat greasy but satisfying side portion of french fries that arrived with our meal. I got even more fries with my burger, with came medium although it was ordered medium rare. It was fine, although considering some of the ingredients (a beefsteak tomato, 'artisan' chop steak) I might have hoped for better. The food might not be overly special, but there's a dash of elegance and presentation in the surroundings that makes dining here a worthwhile experience. read more

A happy hour review. Came in at about 6:15pm on a weekday, and the bar was already filled with patrons. We were offered a seat next to the door, and was told that we could get happy hour prices, even though we had to order with a waitress. $5 glasses of wine and well drinks, which is a solid deal, especially at a newer restaurant like this. Both wines were on point, so I was pleased. Ordered a few apps and side dishes to share (hummus, sweet potato wedges, brussel sprouts, and a charcuterie plate). A note on the charcuterie plate: the meny only lists a cheese board, with the option of adding charcuterie to it for an additional $8. My friend and I were really only looking for the charcuterie, and our waitress said she would ask the chef if we could do that only. She came back and said we could (same sized portion, for the $8), but nice to know they would allow us to do that sort of substitution. Everything came out warm, and fairly quickly, and the portions were great. Hummus came with a few too many black olives, but everything else was properly seasoned and tasted great. Overall, a great place for happy hour in the UES. read more

I've tried brunch twice - once when they first opened and recently this past weekend. The first experience was pretty good - I was satisfied with the corned beef hash. However, my last meal could have been better. The menu had a good variety of options for brunch. I decided to go with the eggs benedict with bacon, while my girlfriend tried the breakfast panini. The eggs were OK, but the bacon was charred. My girlfriend wasn't completely satisfied with her panini either. The service was good considering how busy the restaurant was during our meal, though they added an extra drink on our bill by accident. They promptly corrected the error once it was brought to their attention. Overall, it's been a mediocre choice for brunch based on my experiences. I would like to come back here to try dinner or grab a drink, as the bar itself is very nice. read more

Abysmal service and average food. I came here with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday, since it seemed promising due to the upscale ambience. From the minute we stepped in, the waitresses were rude and unfriendly. Food orders were duplicated or not processed at all and any request we made, whether it were for an additional drink or to split the bill, was met with a roll of the eyes and stomp to the back. Unfortunately, the service (or lack thereof) spoiled the entire meal. Definitely do not plan to return. read more

A District is defined by Merriam Webster as an area, region, or section with a distinguishing character. The Upper East Side was once unofficially known as 'the Silk-Stocking District' due to the affluence of its inhibitors, women of the 30′s and 40′s dressed themselves in all the finest fashions, right down the stockings they wore. Dessert was very good, but I do hope those are not the usual portion sizes and maybe they just served smaller for NY restaurant week. Not only that but he was also eating the fruits he cut with those same gloves! Did I eat the germs off someone else's plate while he was washing the dishes? Probably! It's really a shame and a disgrace to this beautiful restaurant. To top it all off the server was also taking shots on the job and seemed to get more hammered with each shot. When he gave us the desserts, the fruits on the plate were nothing, he told us. It had mango, apple, and figs (my friend is allergic to mango), so she was only able to eat only the 5 little apple pieces that were on the plate, and the figs were very mushy. The pear dessert was not so great. So I asked the bartender if he could exchange the pear dessert for more fruits for the chocolate fondue. Again, it was random different fruits; the second round of fruits was figs, oranges, and grapefruit. Cordial is small, so you can see the chefs cooking in the kitchen. With that being said, you can see one of the chefs washing dishes with gloves on and then proceeding to eat a mango with the same glove and then preparing the meals he cleaned dishes and ate with. It was so unsanitary. I just got disgusted and disappointed quickly after watching him. The sad part is that I and my friend were super happy to find a chill place to go and hang out near where we reside, but unfortunately I'm not sure I'll go back.

The salmon in my Jerk Salmon Bowl and my friend's Atlantic Salmon Bowl was flaky, tender, juicy, and perfect. The rices (white with Jerk, black forbidden with Atlantic) confirmed and celebrated what Chef JJ Johnson wrote in his must-have book The History of Rice. This is to say there is no rice like FIELDTRIP rice: soft, sturdy, sweet, savory, herby, attaches to sauce and protein and vegetables when you want it to, remains on its own when you simply want to enjoy it by itself. The plantains and greens that accompany are ridonkulous icing on the salmon sundae. If you aren't a fan of Brussels sprouts, you likely have good reasons. And, you owe it to yourself to order Crispy Brussels. Besides being cooked so they are toothsome, textured, and still sweet, they're quartered or sixthed, which makes them easier to enjoy and perfect carriers for the crispy bits that top them. I love oxtail. To enjoy this rarely served beef element in a perfectly wrapped and fried egg roll added to my adoration. After bite one, I literally unwrapped my half to see how the shredded meat was coexisting. No saucing was necessary, though the Avocado Cilantro and New Jack Sticky BBQ (both of which were enjoyed by me via spoon) would have enhanced the roll most righteously. Lastly, when you dine in or take away from FIELDTRIP, you need Nana's Bread. It is what you might enjoy if a freshly made flour tortilla, naan, pita, and focaccia met, joined, and were put through a presser. I would dip and dredge Nana's Bread in everything. Your next meal needs to come from FIELDTRIP. Period.

I went to the bar to finish writing my notes for a meeting I had the next day. I had about two glasses of wine on a full stomach when a group of people began to come in and fill up seats to my left. The very short, very small indian guy who was very proud that he did not consider himself "indian" to my left began hitting on me and asked me if I was a local. I responded yes and he told me that the group he was with came "everyday at this time". He introduced me to his friend and pointed to a woman at the end and told me she was a paralegal and also came everyday. He told me to introduce myself to her. I did. I said " Hi. My name is ____ I heard you are a paralegal". The woman turned around and went "you f***ing indian c**nt b***h I have been an attorney for 20 years". I went back to my seat and then went back to her to apologize. She went "get the f**k out of my face you indian b**ch." Her husband said "sweetie calm down you have had too much wine". She again "I don't want to talk to you- you b*tch. get the f*ck out of my face". At this time the bartender Ray was there. Since they were regulars he started screaming at me. It was 5 white people against a woman of color. He said "these are my customers they are regulars and you are harassing them". The bartender so worried about his reputation with these regulars called the cops on me. I spoke with the manager the next day who told me she would look into the situation. I called her again 3 days later and she said "Well, it's his word against yours. He told me you were bothering a customer". Unfortunately, for The District the second time I went to apologize to the very drunk lawyer I taped the entire conversation. I taped the bartender going nuts and calling me a "b**ch". I took pictures of the situation. I taped the bartender calling the cops and then embarrassing me as I stood with my belongings waiting for the cops yelling at me and screaming "these are my regulars". When the cops came you could tell they knew who Ray was. You saw 4 white people come out of the bar laughing and pointing at me. The attorney was a large white woman who thought because of her title she had the right to call people "indian b*tches and c*nts". Honestly, The District employed a bartender who couldn't control himself. He allowed for a young woman of color who did NOTHING to be harassed by people about 25 years older than her. The fact that a neighborhood bar can say "well it's his word against yours" shows their mission and integrity. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED. Train your staff properly to make proper assessments of situations instead of siding with drunk regulars just for tips. The issue here is larger. The District hired an unhinged bartender who bullied a young woman of color for being friendly and then for being apologetic. The first thing I thought walking home was how many people of color have been falsely accused of a crime because you a group of people who are in the wrong ban together and an unhinged person allowing for that behavior to be ok. This is the UES- a place of community not racism and bullying. I look forward to having the owner have a conversation with me regarding this situation. The manager did nothing. Who on earth would be so adamant about an issue if they were drunk and just wrong? I certainly wouldn't be writing a review or calling twice in one week to get to the bottom of the issue if I was lying. I urge people in the community reading this review to make another bar their go-to spot. The District's manager and employee don't seem to care about human decency. read more

Racists owners! I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this restaurant. My friends and I came here, and unfortunately, one of our friends, who happened to be African American, was treated horribly by the staff. It was clear that they were being discriminated against because of their race, and it made all of us incredibly uncomfortable. It's truly shocking to me that in this day and age, business owners still think it's acceptable to treat people this way. This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable, and I will not be returning to this establishment, and I implore readers to do the same. It's truly disheartening to hear that this is not an isolated incident and that racism seems to be a common theme at this restaurant. I urge others to think twice before supporting a business that condones this kind of behavior. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that will treat all customers with respect and dignity - there's no need to patronize a place with such hateful beliefs read more

I have been waiting to see what the District would be like since I noticed it , construction some time ago. I was excited to see it open finally and think the owners did a great job creating a cozy inviting atmosphere in which to relax eat and drink. There was definitely a good crowd when i stopped in at around 11pm on a weeknight last week, mostly 20 somethings dressed for the night out. The place felt very lively and both bartenders took the time to greet me and were friendly and attentive. The tap beers i tried were nice and cold and very fresh tasting. I quickly made some new friends at the bar and they were nice enough to let me try a few wings, they were excellent, nice and crispy with some sort of spice rub. I'm definitely looking forward to trying a few things off their full menu soon ! I live right in the neighborhood and have already been back a few times. read more

I enjoy the food here very much. The staff is very nice and attentive to myself and whomever I bring in with me. You get back what you put out. Respect for others gets you respect . The District is a great place on the Upper East Side with good food and a nice staff. The salads are delicious and the desserts are absolutely amazing! The peanut butter mousse is my favorite. I have also had brunches and burgers at The District and I am never disappointed with the food. The staff is always very friendly and attentive. The ambiance is spacious and was creatively designed. I went with a group of friends for a birthday thinking this would be a cute spot. From the moment the staff saw us in our scrubs and we said we'd be a large group we received the stink eye. We would not be given more chairs unless we ordered dinner. It's funny how they didn't realise that people are less inclined to order food when they lack a seat to sit on and are stuffed into a booth. I've only been once but the drinks were extremely underwhelming and I ended up just going with beer. The bartender may have been new but the Manhattan and Negroni were literally the worst Ive had at an establishment like this. The food was great however and recommended. read more

I was told yes to all of those. I even mentioned that we'd be leaving at halftime, but there was no flexibility. We arrived early, the game started, and our view was of TVs that weren't even connected. When I asked about it, the person who appeared to be the manager simply said those TVs "never worked." If that's the case, why tell customers the game would be on every TV? The service itself was good, but the food was just okay. I'd skip the wings--they tasted like they were fried in old fish oil. The most disappointing part wasn't the food; it was being told one thing to get us in the door and then finding out it wasn't true. That experience alone makes it hard to recommend this place.

The chicken wings were delicious as well as their cheeseburger. We just wish all the staff had the correct information about the TVs.

We decided to share a few sandwiches - the Black Angus Burger with fries and the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with a side salad. I took my first bite of the burger and my eyes opened wide - what an incredible flavor! The first thing you notice is the rich flavor of the angus beef - it's unique! The meat was tender and juicy - it had tomato and lettuce - I added only ketchup. It was one of the most delicious burgers I've had in some time. The French Fries were excellent with a great taste and fry! Next up the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. I was a little apprehensive when I saw the Ciabatta bun - having fried chicken on such a hard crusted, chewy bread. It wasn't the best choice for this sandwich. My partner and I both felt the chicken was 'hiding' behind the dressings - tomato, thick avocado and chipotle aioli - we opted out of the Applewood smoked bacon, which would have made the chicken more obscure. I opened the sandwich and took out a large piece of chicken to really 'taste it'. It had a great exterior crunch, was tender and juicy. It may have been flattened a little. It was a good sandwich, but if it had been on a brioche roll without the avocado, I believe it would have been more of a true crispy chicken sandwich. The little side salad we had was yummy with a very good balsamic vinaigrette. Overall, Bocado was a delightful lunch - the Black Angus Burger is a must!! I'll most definitely be back to enjoy it again!
