My friends and I tried to go in last night for St.Patrick's day. The woman who came to the door was extremely rude, had a drink in her hand, and seemed a little drunk. She said they were not letting people in anymore for the night cause they were at capacity, and the bar was clearly not close to capacity. I saw this shiny new bar on my way home one day and I hoped it was as good as it was aesthetically appealing, and it was! I was just there tonight and I was so glad I want. It was busy when we walked in, and there were reservations at 7:30, but the hostess said if we ate in 45 minutes, we'd be welcome. I was happy that they made space for us when they didn't have to - especially since it is apparently still in the "soft opening" stage. There was a four-item menu (but a very complete bar), but what I ate was really good. I had an Irish cheddar and caramelized onion burger, and a Magners. I haven't had a burger like that in the UES in a really long time, there was a generous helping of the onions and cheese, and the burger was perfectly cooked. Also, the mountain range of fries that came with the burger was fresh and tasty. Both the drinks and the food came quickly, I was impressed! The service was speedy, attentive and friendly. Our waitress, Niamh, was very informative about the opening and the schedule for the grand opening (two weeks-ish?). Even amid the very busy Friday evening rush, she checked on us and never kept our table waiting. It really changes the meal when you can count on good service, and we were very happy. Besides the great food, and the refreshing drinks, the atmosphere is fabulous. I don't think it can be classified, but the pictures sort of reflect how great it was. Our waitress was very rude and rolled her eyes at our group a number of times, and there were several extra drinks on our bill that nobody had ordered. We had to ask for the bill to be corrected three times and each time, different things were added, instead of being taken off. Another woman told us we needed to leave and proceeded to take our glasses out of our hands (one person was taking the last sip of a drink and this woman actually took the glass out of her mouth). There hadn't been a "last call" so we weren't sure of the time and didn't know they were closing soon. There are other restaurants and bars with friendlier service, it's a shame some of them had to close while places like this treat their customers with disrespect. read more

The food and drinks were aesthetically appeasing. The waitresses all have heavy accents...which made it difficult to understand and to order what I wanted. When my guest ordered her food, the waitress didn't even wait and ask me what I wanted or even give me a chance to order. I should have checked some of the reviews before walking in. I walked in around lunch time and there were no other patrons. I ordered a district burger and 45 minutes later, I'm still waiting on my food. The burger finally arrives and is overcooked. I also ordered a beer because there was a sign outside indicating drink specials from 12-8pm. When I received the check, they overcharged for the beer so I questioned the waitress on it. She said that drink specials are from 4-8 but then also sees the sign outside and says "oh, the girl from the day before must have extended the hours because it wasn't busy." She makes no effort to honor the sign or correct the sign so that others wouldn't make the same mistake. I echo the other yelp reviews stating that the service is awful. The place is also shady too so check your receipts carefully. read more

Currently my favorite spot on the UES, The District is staffed by a colorful but professional staff of lovable knuckleheads and features a menu of quality pub fare. (Try the truffle fries.) There's a lot of attention to detail here and it's a nice place. Look, I like a dive bar as much as the next guy, but sometimes you want to chill at a comfortable spot, drink delicious adult beverages out of clean glasses while enjoying a tasty cheese plank. Really loved this place. Came here on a Saturday night with four other people and there was a 15 minute wait but nothing serious. Once we were seated we received the usual bread and butter and then a friend of mine got an appetizer Caesar that I had a bite of and it was pretty good. I know she loved it. The burger at District has really gone down hill! Many year ago when it first opened the burger was superior and the best one on the UES It was a high quality ground beef that was juicy and full of flavor. REVIEWER # 256 TISK, TISK! Oh, how I miss New York! Sadly, I don't miss The District. I flew out to New York for my birthday and some friends and I decided to choose this place for Sunday Brunch. The District is a great spacious bar that offers an upstairs and a downstairs seating. There are many televisions throughout the pub where you can watch the game. My group and I started off right by the door near the bar where we started with drinks. The service at the bar was great, however, our group started to grow bigger so we decided to actually get a table. Once we arrived at the table, the service began to decline. We all were given a menu and were ready to order but our server was nowhere to be found. I can certainly tell that this restaurant was short staffed for sure. After several attempts to try to call a server, my group and I decided to go to the bar to request a server so we could order. I have to admit that the food was good. Although it took FOREVER for the food to come out! OMG, by the time the food came I had forgotten what I ordered. My table was in need of some condiments and to call our server back to the table took another 25 minutes. Luckily, the busboy was running around and we called him to provide us what we needed but the whole time we were eating, no one checked in on us to make sure we were satisfied. Once we were finishing our meal, the busboy came around to take some plates off the table and was such in a rush that he was taking plates that we were still eating from. OMG! Just terrible! Did I mention that the server NEVER came over to check in with us? It even seemed like there were times that she deliberately ignored us and tried to walk past our table really fast. SMH! Boyfriend and I decided to finally check this place out for dinner last night. I was famished after my night class so I was really looking forward to literally any kind of food. The ambiance was nice so we stopped in for dinner. We got the hummus and pita, side of Brussels sprouts, French onion soup, and my boyfriend got some kind of BBQ sandwich. The pitas were stale and cold, and the hummus had no flavor. The French onion soup was clearly microwaved, in a searing hot bowl with huge chunks of bread that tasted almost freezer burned and cheese that was so stringy and sticky I couldn't get it off the spoon. Boyfriend's chips were totally stale and old, and he spent 10 minutes trying to figure out what tasted off about his sandwich. The sprouts were fine - super mushy but at least they had flavor. All the plates at this place are way too big, and I don't mean the amount of food - I'm talking about the physical plates. Large and square with not that much food plopped into the middle, and don't fit on the table. The whole experience was really bizarre. In short, cute ambiance, horrible food, very sweet waitress. To be fair, it's seems like it's meant to be more of a bar than it is a restaurant but I couldn't get the idea of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares out of my head the whole time we were there. I walked in here last night to have a drink after hours with a couple of people i met at east end bar and grill up the block (my usual go to spot). The moment I walked in and ordered a drink the bartender was extremely rude asking nonsense questions. Not once, not twice, not three times, but multiple times in front of the people I just meet so I decided to leave (i come to enjoy myself and relax). Anyways, he comes outside trying to explain why he did what he did which I really didn't care at that point I was already disgusted with his demeanor (especially as a possible new customer). He also expressed his dissatisfaction with me claiming I should look him in the eyes when I ordered my drink (I guess I ordered it wrong and he wasn't happy with that =)). Long story short, he says some nonsense how he feels threatened by me and someone in his family is a cop. Not sure what that was supposed to mean or what he thought but I explained to him that i'm over 40 years old, work for large corporate companies and that he's paranoid ( which he clearly seemed to be from the moment I got into the place. Terrible look). Now I never got to try the place out, nor will I ever spend a dollar in there , but something is clearly wrong when you have a super paranoid bartender treating possible regular customer's this way (management problems?). Do yourself a favor, there are tons of spots on the UES, pick one that shows appreciation for possible regular customer (proper customer service and management). I have been here multiple times but my last visit was not enjoyable AT ALL & will not be returning. The service for one is HORRIBLE and I noticed only with particular people. Waitress was very nice but did not take orders correctly. Sprite was basically water with lime. Wings were not tossed and came out with sauces on the side after we told the waitress we wanted it tossed and our artichoke dip was very watery & way too many artichokes in it. I ordered a burger and my fries were raw and sent it back and was still charged for whole entree. We were basically sat in the corner outside and was forgotten about. I have to say, of all the places to be broken up with, this was pretty top notch. We only had a glass of wine each (I left before finishing mine, because in the words of Frank Costanza "They don't want me? I don't want them!"), and it was house wine, but I found it to be pretty great. Despite going dutch for the previous 6 or so weeks, I let my no longer potential boyfriend pay for my drink, because it was a breakup drink and he made me leave my apartment just to tell me he's okay never seeing me ever again. Like, okay. What I mean by that is I am not sure how much the happy hour drink was--but I think $6. That's pretty good in my book. Regular-priced wines were around $10. Before I left, we did perhaps the greatest thing to do after a "breakup" (no--not THAT)--a post mortem. I had been suspecting that he was going to end things, and I was prepared to end them in a week or so (I didn't want to jump the gun LOL), therefore, I had a well thought out little speech to give. I expressed how I never felt like I could adequately be "myself" in our "relationship." I kind of went deep into things for a few minutes. I almost cried--but I didn't--heeyyyyy. The point of this is that that conversation would have been way awkward elsewhere, but we were in a great corner with no one sitting too close to us and there was enough ambient noise that I felt comfortable. My partner and I ate here tonight and we had quite the experience. First, there was a woman so drunk who came out of the restaurant , fell, hit her head, and had to be taken away by an ambulance. Next, I experienced my drink coming out with a piece of dirt or a dead bug (not quite sure on the rim) and will still charge for it. Oh where do I start. Overall I had high expectations based on the decor. The atmosphere was really relaxed and very classy... but nothing really went up from there. We were seated and offered complimentary mimosas to go with our brunch which was delicious. My friend and I both ordered. I ordered the french toast from the specialty menu and my friend ordered the eggs florentine. We were the second of three tables that were seated. 20-30 minutes later there was still no sign of our food. I will hand it to the waitress, she brought us another round of drinks on the house because our food was taking too long. Apparently the tickets had printed upstairs instead of downstairs -- which made me feel sorry for the kitchen staff, getting slammed.like that. The waitstaff wasn't too attentive which was slightly disappointing as well. So our food arrives... mine is slightly on the luke warm side (which might be because there was a ton of whipped topping and fruit compote so I won't base my review on that). I drew the line, however, when my friend discovered a long hair cooked into her food.
