This is what the upper eastside needed. Its not your typical Irish pub. The decor makes the place a stand out with beautiful lighting and a handsome stone wall, antique mirrors and glass lanterns. Its great for watching a game on one of there 6 flat screen tvs, having dinner with friends or a fun upbeat date spot. You must try there burger. We went for brunch and ordered from the brunch menu. We got there early so it was not very crowded. My husband ordered eggs Benedict and he liked it. I ordered a burger, which was not bad, but the fries tasted like they were retried.. The place has good energy and is usually very busy. I like the ambiance as well but the food is just ordinary. AWESOME new addition to the East 90s. Went in Friday night (absolutely packed), had to wait for a table to eat, but were bought back our 2nd round of drinks from the bartender/maitre'd right away for waiting -- that's really good Euro service (Irish owners) caring for their customers. The beers were great, and the food was good as well. Wasn't crazy about the chicken wings, but the burger, and side caesar salad were so so tasty. I ended up bringing friends back here on Sunday after a long brunch at Parlor for a few beers....shortly thereafter we were ordering more food. I love the atmosphere they created here, and am looking forward to more great memories, and service from the folks at The District. read more

Came here with a friend on a Tuesday night at 7pm. Pros: 7pm - plenty of space in the restaurant to sit, didn't have to wait at all Happy hour runs until 8pm, with $5 house wine & mixed drinks (& beer probably?) Food portions are good Ambiance is pretty awesome - no loud music, so you can have a real conversation, & really cool decor Cons: I ordered a shrimp caesar salad...it was the fishiest caesar salad of my life. There were whole anchovies thrown into the corners. I wanted to gag the entire time I was eating it. The waitress was super absent-minded. I hope it was her first day on the job. When we were ordering, I asked for a caesar salad with shrimp & she looked at me, wrote it down & then asked if I'd like shrimp or chicken with that. When I asked for another glass of wine, she started to carry off my 1/3 full glass & I had to exclaim to her that I was not done with it yet! We came in for a nice relaxed meal & drinks...by the time we were finishing up, it was around 8-8:30, the place was packed & the waitress was very clearly trying to turn the table over to accommodate new customers. She kept coming by the table, walking away, coming by again...I was still finishing up my wine! So rude! read more

Beautiful decor is pretty much all this place has going for it. The beer selection is adequate, the menu is limited, the portions are small and I could probably cook better than their chef. Our party of 4 arrived on a Tuesday night for drinks and light food, the place was a bit busy (about 3/4 full) but for some reason it took them awhile to seat us (or simply even notice us at the door). They also didn't seem too happy about having us sit at a table if we weren't there for dinner, uhh aren't you a bar?! We ordered the mac and cheese, which was a bit tasteless and watery. Upon the waitress' inquiry, we did give our honest opinion of the dish, and they ended up taking it off our bill because we weren't completely satisfied. We also ordered the brussel sprouts, which literally had to have been 1 brussel sprout cut into eighths. The place does look great on the outside and inside. Floor to ceiling windows that open the space up completely to the street, which creates good ambience for a warm night or afternoon brunch. My friend and I came here for happy hour. The lemon drops, for $5 were such a steal! I feel I have a pretty high tolerance, and these drinks were strong. We also got the mussels, and although I was unsure about how I feel eating mussels in a bar, they were pretty decent. Not sure if they matched the drinks, but still good nonetheless. This is a 2.5 review - where are my .5s!!! Anyway, I yelped to find a spot in the UES that was classy, had TVs so the boys could watch the football playoffs, and the food would be good. I found the District that was great on all fronts. However, I was deeply disappointed by the service of our waiter. We didn't want another round of drinks and were thinking of getting dessert when he said "ok guys here is the bill, we have a lot of people waiting." Ok, dude, we were only there for almost an hour and a half and eating our 4 entrees, 1 appetizer, 4 drinks. Give us some time, please? But we left and had another round of drinks somewhere else. Expected better as I got a good vibe when I walked into this place. Food tip btw: truffle fries are OK not amazing like all are raving about. Nice place! Came here for Sunday brunch and sat at the bar with my friend. Couldn't make up my mind on what I wanted (in a good way) so there's a plus. Decided on the Salmon Pretzel sandwich on the bartender's recommendation and wasn't disappointed. She was really nice as well and shot the breeze with us about football. Soccer was playing and she wasn't American so it took a little while to figure out which football she meant, it was a good time. Free mimosa or bloody mary with all brunch dishes. The east 90's needed a place like The District to liven it up and living in the 90s, this has become one of my go-to places. Was definitely pleasantly surprised... The ambience is really cool - something you'd expect downtown as opposed to the upper east side and it's decently crowded almost every single day of the week. The entrees are awesome - I've had the goat cheese salad with grilled chicken and the burger. The burger is honestly one of the best I've had in a while and the sauce they give you with the truffle fries are mouth-watering. The appetizers didn't really impress me - the wings were a little tasteless and the mac and cheese was a bit heavy for my liking so I just go straight for the entrees now. I'd suggest going for beer over wine here - they have a pretty decent seasonal list and the drinks tend to be a LOT on the heavy pour side, which I usually don't have an issue with, but it's over the top here. The service is a bit on the terrible side...I've had one good male waiter here, but the rest of the staff is pretty rude. The entrees clearly saved this review... read more

I feel comfortable here during covid. They have a large outdoor seating area and servers are all masked. Servers are great and food is delicious. Great happy hour deals! They had a special of bacon spinach stuffed chicken with pesto mashed potato's the other day I got to go and ate every single bite when I got home. The District was....fine. I would agree with many of the other reviewers that this place definitely still has its training wheels on. And it needs them. I came here for a few drinks on a Thursday night. It was definitely hoppin', but had more of a restaurant/pub feel than the bar environment I was expecting. Limited seating at the bar. Again, to echo previous reviewers, the beer menu was nothing special. I think they had 8 beers on tap, but they included Bud and Blue Moon and the like. Well drinks weren't terribly priced-- I had Jameson on the rocks for $7 and a vodka soda for $6. The bartender was an interesting fellow. I'm not sure if he was inexperienced, nervous or both, but he wasn't the most attentive of servers. Our first drinks came pretty quickly, but my second drink took a while to make and was then promptly dropped on the bar counter...by the bartender. Who was very embarrassed and cleaned it up but then forgot that the spilled drink was one that I had planned on actually drinking. So I had to remind him, 10 minutes later. To his credit, he comped it. In all, I was not impressed. But its presence as a somewhat interesting offering in the barren nightlife wasteland known as the Upper East Side means I'm not above giving the District a second chance. read more

I guess I should give this place another try, but I kinda don't want to. I was excited to go there for their pork sausage pie. On a Saturday afternoon at 2pm (in a place that is by no means insanely busy) they were sold out. It's really ridiculous and shows poor kitchen management. I mean, did they only make one small pie? I don't understand. I got the corn beef hash instead which was decent not spectacular. But my poached eggs were way way WAYYYYY overdone - solid all the way through. Isn't that day one of cooking school? How to make a variety of eggs properly? At the very least, a place that serves brunch should have that down-packed. On top of it all, while our waiter was very nice and attentive, the bartender was rude and snippy to one of my friends while we were waiting for a table (they had tons of 2-person tables open just not one for 3 or more more). I had a steak Caesar salad today and it definitely wasn't worth $20. Sometimes I have to remind myself I'm not always going to get a great meal even if it breaks the bank. It is New York after all. Terrible service tonight. Ordered an appetizer that apparently was forgotten. We were promised that it was coming soon but instead our entrees came and we finished them, our plates were cleared and still no appetizer. Then they said it would be out in "two minutes" and they'd give us a free dessert. Instead, we asked for the appetizer to be taken off the bill. Then she brings us our check and we still hadn't received the appetizer! It finally comes out and it's terrible... overcooked chicken, burned tacos. Not once did we get an apology. Even the entree... one burger was ordered with the sauce on the side, but arrived with no sauce. The Diet Coke was completely flat. Very disappointing overall. Also, when I arrived, my side plate on the table had a dead fly on it. read more

Came here on a surprisingly busy Wednesday night - probably because of the Rangers game. Our server was very friendly but seemed overwhelmed (again, probably because of the game). Here is what we had: -Truffle fries. A lot of fries for the price, and a very nice flavor overall. Truffle oil wasn't too strong. -Seafood tacos. These were also pretty tasty, but needed a little more seasoning. And 3 small tacos for $13 seemed a bit too pricey. -Black bean soup special. Really disappointing - it was just a blackbean puree. It's really hard to call this a soup, and we were not happy with this. Not recommended. -District wings. Not sure what makes them 'District.' Totally underwhelming wings with some buffalo sauce and ranch/blue cheese dip (not sure). We were not fans of the latter dip, and the wins themselves were just fried and dry. Not many wings either. Very disappointing (and I see others have commented on this too). Overall, a bit underwhelming for dinner - perhaps they are better for brunch, but there are enough good brunch places in the area to totally pass. read more

I went with some co-workers from Sinai on one of their opening nights. really beautiful bar, and has a great selection of beers with great prices. The manager was really attentive and got us a table fairly quickly, even though it was packed. It was nice to see a place that was busy in the UES. Frankly, I'm sick of ABV being my spot to grab drinks near Mount Sinai, so this will def. make my list of after work spots! The menu was limited. I had the burger and it was good, not great. Great 'upscale' bar/restaurant with good burgers - come here for a good (albeit cramped) time! Came here for drinks/dinner about a month ago, and it was PACKED. It's winter so we waited inside, and the whole time we were there, there was a crowd of people at the bar. I imagine the people at the tables close to the bar felt really cramped. Nevertheless, we managed to get a table, AND we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of their food. I ordered the risotto appetizer, and it was surprisingly good, coming from a bar/pub. We also shared the regular burger which was good. I normally am not a burger fan, but this was really pleasing to my belly! Come here if you want a good time - but be prepared to wait! read more

I really want to love this place since it is so close to my apartment and as so many others have mentioned the space itself is gorgeous. However, I feel they are a little on the pricey side for both food and drinks and the place has more of an overcrowded loud restuarant feel and not so much of a bar feel if that makes any sense. The bartenders were very busy so I can't really say if they were really nice or not. I did wait a while for drinks but I guess that is expected when they are so crowded. The district is a great spot! I know, I know... it's far up for those of you who are scared to come above 42nd street, but it's definitely worth the visit. My bf lives in the 80s so we came to the district to watch the Bulls v. Nets game 7 (go Bulls!) This place could be best described as a classy sports bar. Dimly lit, romantic feel, but with great televisions in view from any seat to watch games. The food looked delicious and the drinks were classy and also very good. The best part, everything was pretty cheap. My fancy specialty cocktail was only $9. You must try the Carmel apple. Holy deliciousness! Checked out the new place. The decor is nice i love it. The menu is very minimal. The burger is very good though. the truffle oil skinny french fries are great. They give you a garlic aioli to put on your burger or dip with fries. It's a little heavy for me but some may disagree. The happy hour is great. $5 cocktails, draft beers, house wine. The french onion soup isn't that great nor is it terrible. I'm just used to melted cheese pouring over the bowl. No complimentary bread served while you figure out what to order. It can get pretty noisy after 5pm on thurs, fridays. The apple celery soup was very very bland. The risotto wasn't that bad but not memorable. The mac and cheese was good. not too creamy. Overall, great place for a burger or comfort food over drinks with your colleagues, friends. Good for an impromptu meet up! read more

When you walk in, you are ready to brace for a pub food menu- rather the menu is like fine dining.....We have enjoyed both Sunday brunch and several dinners during our few week stay on the UES and we have been quite impressed. For dinner, a few of our favorite dishes are the sea scallops and brick chicken......they were both well prepared (sea scallops can be horrible if not cooked correctly)...both dishes had the right accompanying side dishes....very flavorful The only negative is the noise level and closeness of the tables- it is extremely loud and tight- great for those looking to be in the scene, but if you are looking for a quiet relaxing dinner, I suggest going early in the evening or for brunch! read more

Came here on a Wednesday evening with a friend and had a lovely time sitting outside in the covered area right on Third Ave. Happy hour specials are great ($5 beer/wine/well drinks plus $8 mules and $10 espresso martinis) and run until 8pm! Ordered a $5 glass of rose, and the pour was huge. The veggie burger ($12) was the standout- it was really delicious, made with beans and rice and topped with hummus on a delicious brioche bun (unfortunately I forgot to take a picture). I asked for a side salad instead of fries, and there was no upcharge, which rarely seems to happen. In total, we got 4 glasses of rose, 1 appetizer, and 2 entrees, and the total was $60 before tip- impressive! The ambiance/vibes are really great at the restaurant, and the food is good for the price. Solid neighborhood spot! read more

Went for brunch. Service was disorganized or maybe understaffed. We wanted to sit outside and the server told us we can just find a spot. Five minutes passed after sitting down before our existence was acknowledged. Another couple of minutes passed before we got menus. It was mediocre service for the rest of the meal. I was hungry so I got the steak and eggs. Advice to the chef: please don't put steak on the menu if you don't have a cook that knows how to temp steak. I asked for medium rare and got medium well. I asked the server for a new steak and 10 minutes later received a well done steak. Whatever. I didn't want to wait any longer so I ate half of it and sent the rest back for good. My wife got the eggs florentine. It was okay. Their hollandaise kind of tasted like Velveeta. Surprisingly their eggs were poached quite well. We live real close and I was a bit disappointed that I won't be making this place a regular hang out. Didn't want to give this place less than three stars based off of one visit. They seem to do pretty well for themselves so I may have to go there for dinner before further judgement. read more

I came here despite all the one star reviews because I realized that they all pertained to the service - not the food. The food here is excellent. It is creative and definitely more interesting than your regular bar fare. The poor service is not caused by malevolence but incompetence. It is fairly easy to compensate for. Every time you see your waiter just remind them what your order was and if you are still waiting for anything from the kitchen. I will gladly come here again. read more
