HOWEVER I ordered clams on the half shell, they smelled different than what Im used to, and I ate them thinking it should be ok, I got very sick on my vacation and had to take off work. Got a lobster roll here over the weekend. It wasn't the best I've had but not horrible either. There's a ton of meat which is great but it's a bit more of a lobster salad than chunks of lobster on a roll, but that's a personal preference. Roll is nicely toasted and sweet. If what you want is fresh seafood, simply but expertly prepared in an classic waterfront setting, than the Dock House is where you want to go in Sag Harbor. The entire restaurant is little more than a shack perched on the edge of Sag Harbor's iconic Long Wharf. There are two or three tables, and a counter along the wall that looks out over the marina. All seating is on stools, but if you come here on a weekend, that won't matter as you're unlikely to get a seat. Better to plan on taking the food outside, and sitting on one of the benches along the wharf, or on the little beach by the windmill across the street. All food here is served in takeout containers anyway, so why not take it out? Although you really can't go wrong with anything on the chalkboard menu (well, I haven't tried the hamburgers or hot dogs...but it would be downright silly to order those here anyway), I strongly recommend the raw oysters, which are as fresh as can be; the steamers or the mussels, which are served the traditional way with a salt water dip and a butter dip; the clam chowder -- either New England or Manhattan, whichever suits your fancy; the crab cakes; the seafood burger (made on the premises), the very fresh salads, and especially, the grilled tuna entree, which, last time I had it there, was the single best piece of tuna I've ever eaten anywhere. Some reviewers here have called the Dock House pricey, but in context -- we're talking the Hamptons, here -- this place is extremely reasonable. When I take friends from out of town here, they become ecstatic over the prices, after having been taken to the cleaners by virtually every other restaurant in the area. As mentioned, the Dock House is almost always crowded, but the service is friendly and speedy. So, given the great food and reasonable prices, it's definitely worth putting up with the lines and lack of seating. If you're in the Hamptons, make sure to have at least one meal here. My last stop for eats before heading back to Brooklyn from East End adventure. Had the lobster roll and some waffle fries. Both were pretty good. Even got a side of cole slaw. The ladies were running the joint were nice but all about getting everyone their orders out as fast as possible. It was definitely a mad rush in there when I showed up. But I left pleased. And noticed the tub in the corner by the door, that day it was not flowing with fresh lobsters, but thought it was cool. The Dock House is a great place to go for a casual seafood dining experience. The prices aren't too bad for the area (I think it was about $13 for my skewered spicy shrimp), but the portion sizes weren't all that impressive. The waffle fries, while delicious, made up the vast majority of my meal. If you come here hungry, I suggest getting a soup along with your meal to help fill you up. I definitely recommend coming here with the intention of taking your meal to go. It's a small place and the interior can get crowded very quickly. There are a couple of tables with about 4 or 5 stools at each one, and there's a short bar with some stools as well. The last time I went there, I was with three friends and we sat at one of the tables to eat. The lines that formed for placing/picking up orders snaked near and around our table throughout our meal (which we expected due to the size of the place). I dream about the seafood here. Spending summers in Sag Harbor from ages 0-23, I have loved Dock House through and through. It is a TINY hole in the wall-- literally a shack, filled with delicious, fried seafood. I've tried almost all of the menu here-- fried clams, fried oysters, soft shell crabs, salmon, fisherman's net, scallops. It's all absolutely perfect. The seafood is fresh and incredibly reasonably priced. This is a refuge from the pretentiousness of the rest of the hamptons. Come here for unaffected, cheap, delicious seafood. You will love the atmosphere here (people in t-shirts and short), if you need a break from the posh sidewalks of East Hampton. It is the perfect place to bring a group of friends for a cheap lunch to save up for that $$$ hamptons dinner. Order inside, get a seashell with your number on it, then wait. When it comes out, be sure to find a seat by the dock and enjoy your mouth watering seafood. Oh, and they have a raw bar too! read more

A little pricey for fish fry, but the seafood is extremely fresh so I can't complain too much. Bf and I drove out from Montauk check out Sag Harbor and I was more than happy to see The Dock House got great Yelp reviews. After all, it's the ONLY place to eat right on the wharf (minus the more sit-down B Smith's). Surprisingly at 1:30, it was not so crowded that we couldn't grab a seat inside. I wish they had outdoor seating but I guess it's more take-out. We shared seats with 3 others, but that was fine by me. I ordered the special, which was Fish and Chips. Fresh, fried, flaky cod (so fresh that my bf got a small bone stuck in his teeth, so beware). The chips were chips- thick, cut fries. I was envious that my bf got waffles fries as he ordered the fried clams (warning- this is a sandwich, not just fried clams). He thinks the totally gross, unnecessary bread is due to the fact that you don't need to fill it up with clams. These fried clams were good but were so small; there is not a lot of fried breading with it either. The tomato and lettuce atop the white bread was fresh, though. The fried claims were some $12, and the Fish, $14. We also shared The New England Clam Chowder ($4) which was very good. I had this at West Lake Clam Chowder House the other night, which was too thick and creamy for my liking. This was perfect- very fresh ingredients, with a healthy dose of potato, and celery. Not too too thick. Our food came with all the essentials- tartar sauce, malt vinegar, lemon.. yum. I would definitely come back if in Sag, but must say the Fish and Chips is the way to go. read more

Dockhouse reminds me of the quintessential fish shack on the water. Small and un-assuming, you know it must be good though when the line is out the door on a Sunday night. Some friends and I stopped by here on our drive back to the city a few weeks ago and got a few items to share. Highlights were the clam chowder and calamari. The chowder was so creamy and well seasoned, and calamari nicely fried yet not oily at all. Best part is there are benches and picnic tables by the water on the other side of the little beach, so you can sit and watch the boats and sunset as you eat. read more

After perusing the offerings on Sag Harbor's main drag, I was delighted to find the Dock House. Simple, unassuming and the food was terrific. I had the Fisherman's Net fried sampler of scallops, shrimp, and flounder. It was delicious - but too heavy on the scallops and not enough flounder. One of my friends had the grilled swordfish and loved it - fresh and perfect, he declared it. Another had a cold cracked lobster and called it a 7 out of 10. The only downside is that they don't offer alcohol - so no beer with your meal - but the food is good enough that you don't care. Seating is limited but we got one of the tables and were treated to a gigantic lightning storm. On a nice day though, would be great to get food to go and sit on the dock and watch the fancy yacht activity. read more

This place is one-of-a-kind! When we stayed in Sag Harbor for two days, we ate here FOUR TIMES. Completely serious. Everything on their menu was delicious. The chowder was the best the either of us had ever had. The oysters were amazing (the second best we ever had, coming in at a close second to a place in New Orleans). The crab cakes were probably the freshest crab cakes I've ever eaten. Next time I know I have to try one of their sandwiches. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the Hamptons. I almost feel that by marketing this place, I'm giving away a secret great food location and that the quality might go down if more people go there ;) but I really do like this place the way it is and want it to be successful. read more

Came for dinner recently as we wanted a more casual dock side restaurant with fresh fish and seafood. The restaurant is small, with 2 bar tables with stools, and a long counter with stools that face the marina. I got the grilled mixed seafood plate which came with salmon, tuna, and swordfish, side of fries and Cole slaw. This was really good, but my partner got the scallops which were the real highlight of this meal! Scallops were soft, tender, and juicy! We also got crab cakes, very good as well, and the lobster bisque, which had a large amount of lobster meat in it. A definite stop when in Sag Harbor. read more

Fantastic seafood "shack" serving great fresh seafood, cooked simply but well and served with nice fresh salads or heavenly waffle fries, which are seasoned just right. The setting is nice overlooking the docks at Sag Harbor and the interior is simple but tasteful. Not a long "sit-down" place but more somewhere to grab a quick bite (they do have places to sit and eat) or even a take-out to bring to the beach. I personally am a fan of the fried soft shell crab and "fisherman's net" (flounder, shrimp and scallops) sandwiches. Nothing is over-fried and the delicate taste of the seafood isn't drowned out by bad or over cooked batter, just complemented by good seasoning and fried in oil that is clearly at just the right temperature (the food isn't greasy or burnt on the outside). The tartar sauce is delicious and the cocktail sauce is nice and spicy from horse radish, like it should be. Not everything is fried. They do fresh fish and other seafood grilled in tasty marinades and offer different salads topped off with fish/shrimp/chicken if you want. In fact, they boast that their chefs will prepare whatever seafood you want, any way you want. There's also the odd burger and hot dog on the menu but that's not exactly what this place is about. I'd recommend going in outside of peak lunch time on the weekend as it can get very busy, but they're still very quick and friendly if the peak times are more convenient. read more

The Dock House is such a great treat in the summer. Located right on the dock in Sag Harbor, this small restaurants focuses on great, fast seafood. The inside area has 4-5 bar seats and 2 small high top tables inside. However, it seems like most people take their food to-go. Directly outside of Dock House are a couple of benches, and across the street is a picnic table, which are perfect spots to take your food on a nice day. I've ordered a few things here, but my favorite is absolutely the lobster roll with waffle fries. The lobster rolls, while somewhat pricey, are large with a significant amount of fresh, flavorful lobster meat. The fries are crispy and not very greasy. There is also a large fish case with various catches, clams, oysters, crabcakes, etc. to take home and cook; it looks really fresh with a lot of options. The location is great, directly in downtown Sag Harbor and the building matches the old whaling town charm of the rest of Sag Harbor. It isn't officially summer until you've gotten your Dock House lobster roll! read more

Cute ambiance and nice staff, but the food is horrible. They don't fry the food correctly, its at too low of a temperature so the food is super soggy. Where do I begin. This place is next door to the famous B. Smith's which I used to frequent in Washington, DC all the time. Very diverse crowd of people, good food, nice tables, and full view of the boats docked in the wharf. I decided to pass B. Smith's for something new. Since the Dock House had such awesome reviews, I decided to try it out. First of all, the place is tremendously small with only two tables and a dirty counter. There had to be 40 people there yesterday when we went in. I'm fine with small crowed spaces, I live in one. I live in NYC for God's sake. Every restaurant I frequent in NYC is small and crowded. But this place was so inattentive. They didn't even acknowledge that there were people in line waiting to order. And the Pick Up line was equally insane. We sat and wasted our afternoon in this place for three fried shrimp dinners. My husband went to the counter after 20 minutes and asked about our order. The teenage girl replied "It's not ready yet." Well, of course we knew that. We wanted you to check on it. 20 minutes later one of them was mopping the floor and overheard me complaining about the order. The manager or resident mop guy came over to inform us that they lost our order and they were going to start making it. Absolutely terrible service. I was livid. I walked out. We received free food and a "sorry" inside our to-go box. The fries were mediocre. The shrimp was ok. The service was terrible. I will take my business and my vacation time else where. read more

I thought the food was pretty bad, and very expensive. My friends and I ordered sides of corn, fried soft shell crab, the mixed seafood platter, and lobster rolls. The corn was dried out. The soft shell crab was fine--how bad can anything deep fried be? I've never seen a more pathetic platter than the seafood platter. It was three tiny pieces of fish (each piece was probably about 1 inch by 1 inch) on a massive white bun. Wasn't expecting a platter to be a sandwich with barely any fish on it. The lobster rolls were pretty bad, although substantial in size. It was all claw and no good meat for $19. Yuck! We got the food as takeout and they left out one of our lobster rolls. Fortunately when we went back they gave us an extra roll for free. All in all, expensive and bad food! read more

Overall really impressed by the attention to all the details and the food served at this small dockside restaurant. We ordered the fish tacos, the New England clam chowder, the lobster roll, baked clams and oysters. Everything was delectable. The fish tacos were served with a bunch of different dipping sauces for both the tricolor chips and the tacos itself (guac, sour cream, salsa and special sauce). Lobster roll is actually $20 and reasonably $9 less than all their competitors on Shelter Island and near Montauk and way tastier too. But I was blown away by the clam chowder. I love popping into The Dock House, ordering some popcorn shrimp with waffle fries, and walking around the lovely town of sag harbor until it's ready. And then stuffing my face. It can get pretty crowded in there, but for good reason- It's a small spot with great food. And, if you have picky siblings who don't have interest in seafood, they have chicken fingers and hot dogs, as well as a portabella mushroom burger.
