I came in and ordered a chicken gyro and swapped out the honey mustard sauce for the tzatziki sauce. As a side I ordered fries. My boyfriend ordered a hot dog. My chicken gyro: It had a generous amount of chicken, it was flavorful and juicy. The tzatiki sauce completed it perfectly. There was lettuce and tomato on it too. We've been going to Dog Father for many years. We have always been happy with our orders and the staff has always been polite and courteous until recently. I understand that staff comes and goes but the new girl with the long black hair (sorry don't know her name, I believe it starts with a T) is unbelievably rude and disrespectful. She has an awful attitude. She slams the phone down on people when they call to place an order and she is worse when you go into order. She gets short and snotty if you tell her that your order is wrong and heaven forgive if you ask her to have it fixed. I wish the owner was there to witness her behavior because I know he would never allow her to treat the customers this way. It's funny how different her behavior is when he is there. read more

My family loves The Dogfather! I can't blame them really...it's good, fast food. My son can't get enough of the mozzarella sticks. They aren't "normal" sticks. They are sooooo much better. It's a flour tortilla rolled up with cheese inside and deep fried. He doesn't even bother with the marinara sauce. (Don't worry, it doesn't go to waste around here.) The gyros are at the top of my hubby's Must Have List. He rarely finishes the sandwich because it is so large. He also likes to nibble on the french fries. Nothing extraordinary - BUT, they are fried correctly. They aren't overly greasy or overly salted. They are crisp and just right. Finally, my favs... The Italian sausage and beef combo sandwich is delicious. The sausage is seasoned really well. I thought it was possible that they make their own sausage, but my husband insists that I am wrong. Honestly, I can't bring myself to ask. It's good. That's all that I know for sure. The onion rings are beer battered, not breaded with that crumbly, crunchy stuff. Those are mighty fine, too. Finally, I am a fan of their burger. I like it cooked a bit on the well side with crispy bacon. It's a good size and I usually don't finish it. Take the time to head in for lunch or dinner. I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit this, but I drove by the Dogfather for 2+ years before realizing it wasn't in fact a pet supply store. Having eaten at the dogfather a few times now, I realize that if I had taken more than a cursory glance in the store instead of just speeding by, I would have known this fact far sooner. Not because of the lack of sad-eyed puppies begging me to take them home, but more from the unmistakable yellow-mustard color lavishly adorning most of the walls throughout. There's no mistaking the color. It is definitely mustard and it helps this strip-mall storefront spread it's hot-dog goodness out onto IL-59 if you're looking for it. The other choice of color on the wall is an interesting one. It's red. Fire-engine red. Corvette Red, and dare I say it... Ketchup red? Say it ain't so. It can't be. Granted, the Dogfather is 35+ miles west of the city of Chicago and it's far from a law, but the understood rule for all Chicago Style dogs is this: mustard only. No ketchup. Though he's a New Yorker referring to his favorite NY hot dog joint, I'm going to quote Anthony Bourdain on this one, as I believe he properly summarizes the sentiment for the Chicago-Style Dog: "...if you put ketchup on your dog I will *ahem* kill you." Anyway, back to the choice of color on the wall at Dogfather. Why the red? I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and speculate that the red color is meant to symbolize the color of the Chicago Red Hot, and not necessarily ketchup. This... surely must be the case and I'm going to labor under this assumption until someone corrects me otherwise. Beyond the red and yellow walls, the folks at the dogfather have really outdone themselves incorporating their logo into stills and artwork inspired by the Godfather movies, as well as other topical images with the Sopranos as well as other mobsters, gangsters and organized crime barons. These little details are pretty entertaining if you look for them, and can provide some casual enjoyment as you chow. Enough about the decor, though. The dogfather serves up an experience very familiar if you've been to any number of other Chicago hot dog joints. Place your order, it's written on a paper bag at the counter, and the kitchen staff gets to work on it. You pay, and eventually you get your food in the bag on which your order was written (regardless of whether you're taking it to-go or dining-in). The hot dogs served by the Dogfather are a familiar favorite to anyone familiar with the Chicago dog. Poppy seed bun. Bun-length dill pickle spear. Celery Salt. Peppers. MUSTARD. Relish. They build them correctly and they build them well at the Dogfather, and that's something that should be appreciated. Beyond the namesake fare, the Dogfather also serves burgers, fries, gyros, sausages, and all your other artery clogging favorites. Top it all off with a "pop" and you're good to go. No puppies at the Dogfather. Just some good Chicago style dogs, and I'm an idiot for not figuring that out 2 years earlier. read more

I'm a big fan of Portillos beef but I actually liked this version better. The menu ranges from burgers and dogs to beefs, chicken and gyros. The prices are reasonable too. read more

I haven't reviewed this place yet? Weird. I've had a cheesy garlic beef sandwich, their fries, and their gyros here. It is very easy to go wrong with any of those things. The fries could be greasy and floppy. The beef sandwich could be flavorless, or sopping wet. The gyros could be dry and forgettable. But none of those things apply here. The fries are always hot and crisp. The cheesy garlic beef was flavorful and meaty. And the gyros the last time around were moist. Plus, they always get my order right. At some point I'm gonna try their dogs, since it's in their name. But I'm more than willing to rate them highly based on what I've already had. As far as I know, it's the best fast food joint in Bartlett. read more

Food: Fast, affordable, and simply good! Staff: SO NICE. I spilled my full cup when I placed it on top of my car. They saw and stepped out of the restaurant with a fresh cup waiting for me! No charge! Other: Not a big deal, but I had my dog with me that day. This is a great place to get a quick, cheap, but decently good bite to eat. My husband and I have lived in Bartlett for four years now and finally decided to stop by for some food. He ordered the hot dogs and a tamale, while I got a burger no bun and fries. I was a little disappointed by the tamale as it was one I could buy at jewel. We were very happy with everything else though. The best part, it was a Tuesday, so the hot dogs were one dollar. Thus, making our bill with tax, 10 dollars. Win in my book! read more

To all those that have ever asked the waiter for extra fries, even on first dates, search no more. Dogfather is your promised land. Their large fries are insanely huge even for me. I wish i could tell you how great their burgers are, how delicious their gyros are, the wonderful flavours of their Italian beef, but really, they are the side, for the french fries are the entree. I sometimes wake up scared, confused, and sweating, at the possibility that Dogfather might not be around the next day, and I would be missing what is undeniably the greatest large french fries in illinois, if not the US, and possibly the world. Please, not if you go, but when you go, put an order of fries in, and make sure it is large. Finally, in the cash-strapped economy in which we now live, not only are the dogfathers prices reasonable, but an off-leash dog park pass will result in a 10% discount. God bless. read more

I miss ordering food from this spot and I also miss their delicious food. I recently visited Bartlett, and I also did not miss the chance to order something from this spot. I ordered through Grubhub because I was too lazy to drive to the spot, even though it was not very far from where I was. The customer service is nice and friendly, and I was able to order properly after just a few minutes. The prices are very cheap, and the food is very good. I remember ordering a lot from this spot a year ago, and there is even a particular day where I can get a dog for only a dollar. I was waiting for my order, and it took a lot longer than I expected, since the place I was staying was actually a few minutes away from the spot. I was so excited when the food arrived, but not until I saw what was inside. I am a bit disappointed with the food they gave me. It looked like a mess, and I did not know if it was the delivery's fault or the spot's fault. I still ate it, and honestly, it was not as good as I remembered it to be before. Thank GOD we have the Dogfather in Bartlett. It's exactly what a restaurant should be. Excellent food, clean restaurant, friendly/professional staff. My only problem with it is that EVERYONE I know now goes there so I can't pop in on a weekend sans makeup and in grungy clothes - last time we were there I saw my mailman AND our next door neighbors! Ah, it doesn't really matter - that's the kind of place Dogfather is - you're appreciated for your business and that just isn't heard of that often anymore. I hate to make this review but I must. We are in the mist of this Covad 19 situation. Today 5-4-2020 I stopped in for 2 dogs and a drink. As I entered the girl behind the counter ran a curbside order out a another customer. Once back in the store she wrote down my order. She did not have on any gloves or face mask. I've tried and tried to like this place. I just can't dig it. I love Portillos and the whole Chicago dog thing, But... The positive - 1. the owner is awesome and friendly, always remembers my boys and I when we come in; 2. My boys like the gyros and they have lots of meat on them; 3. Prices don't suck, too bad. The negative - 1. The entire place needs to be scrubbed with a Mr. clean wall eraser. The tables are sticky and dingy, there are visible dark marks from hands on the white restroom doors... So what does the kitchen look like? 2. The cheese sticks, what the heck? No sir, we don't like 'em! 3. The fries are REALLY average. No taste unless they're buried in salt; 4. I really enjoy their cheesey garlic beef and homemade mozzarella sticks. If you can't decide then get those. They also have good hotdogs and gyros. In fact most of the food here is good. My only issue is that the wait times for food can get a bit lengthy. Probably due to being short staffed. Especially during the week. Thankfully though it doesn't get too busy unless it's the weekend. Weekends can be a bit faster. If you are in Bartlett or nearby I recommend this place for anything hotdog, burger or beef related. A not-your-typical fast food hot dog and beef place. Between the four of us, we ordered chicken gyros, cheese fries and combos (sausage and beef). Yummy! Quality in the dumps after years of greatness. Been eating here since they opened, so believe me, I know. Apparently the owner needs a new toy because you could literally see through the "meat" of the paper-thin tomato slice in our dogs. It's supposed to be a WEDGE, not a color accent. Cost cutting leads to low quality and a revolving door of employees leads to mistakes. How do you get hotdog orders wrong?!? Happened twice in two months....therefore the review. Too bad, really. Down to a 1. NOW you order a beef with hot peppers and you have to put them on yourself???? Seriously? Do you even know how beef works? Lazy, low quality. Job one has been lost at this joint. Don't waste your time on an establishment who doesn't care about their community. I would give a zero star if allowed. They set their clocks fast to close early... This is the third time we have tried to walk in prior to close time and they have the door locked. The owner was sitting in there and i put my phone up to show it was 8:28 (they close at 8:30) and he pointed to his manual clock on the wall that you can adjust as you wish. He came to the door and opened it to talk to us and I thought awesome he is going to do the right thing and let us in and make 1 hot dog for my daughter. But nope, with the door open and people behind the register with someone else in there waiting for their food he says "sorry my clock shows 8:30." Are you kidding me?! That will be the last time I ever give that establishment my business. How pathetic is it that the owner would rather turn away business from patrons in his own town (we were wearing bartlett hawks gear). Do not eat there he doesn't care about his community. read more

Love the name. I went there a few days ago around 1:30. There was no line walked up to counter and the girl was sitting down lookin at her phone. I ordered the days special Italian Beef. Food came out quick I went to sit at one of the booths but it was dirty. Tried another one same thing. So I got a few napkins and clean the table and seats. Beef was ok bread was very good.
