I was there yesterday. No one told us there hasn't been a buffet since before covid, and it wasn't indicated anywhere on their site. Server looked annoyed that we even asked. It wasn't even blocked off from their menu. Food was nothing above average, gift shop was nice. Love the hush puppies and honey butter! So yummy and set the tone for our meal. Tea was good and strong. Our party had fried flounder, shrimp, scallops, broiled seafood platter, crab legs and clam chowder. Everything was really good. Service was excellent. I hate that I didn't take any pics, but we were all hungry! Only disappointing thing is they were out of baked and sweet potatoes so we got fries. A comfortable and inviting atmosphere, excellent service and tasty food - can't go wrong at the Dunes. My son and I had dinner here and enjoyed it in more than one level. We didn't wait long for a table despite the presence of quite a crowd. The food was tasty all around - from our onion rings (delicious) and chowder to our seafood entrees. Very disjointed place. Several different rooms all linked together. Hush puppies were ok. Not the best but not the worst by far on the island. I had the she crab soup. It was very good. Nice portion and very creamy with a good amount of crab. I also had the ribs. I thought these might be the best ribs I have had in several years. The chicken and waffles were also good. Big portion with a full waffle and 4 pieces of chicken. Kids menu has a good selection as well My daughter thought steak and shrimp special was good as well. read more

We had breakfast here 2-3 times while on vacation. Sausage gravy is good, pancakes are good, hashbrowns had onions in them, coffee just ok. They have some good deals like 2 eggs plus two pancakes for $5.99 (Sept 5, 2024). Service was very good. read more

The Dunes was a recommendation to us from the owner of our condo. We went to their sister restaurant on Monday (which was also amazing), but decided to come here on Wednesday. Let me start by saying that I highly recommend the bellini and any of their mimosas. The sherbet mimosa was on special that day and it was lovely. The prices were average for breakfast, but the portions were HUGE. I mean the kind of large that everyone at the table audibly says "whoa" when it comes out. As a group we can EAT, but no one was able to finish. Corned beef hash was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside. The omelettes were stuffed on the inside. The biscuits were as large as my hand and the sausage gravy side came in a soup bowl. Absolutely everything was perfection and we plan on coming here at least one more time before we leave. Our lovely waitress, Carol, was so attentive and kind. Before I even had finished my water or sweet tea, a fresh one was coming out. She knew we were from out of town and made sure to point out not only the specials of the day, but also some of the best ones on the menu. I have been craving crab legs for weeks! So, I knew when I got down to Nags Head, I would have to find a restaurant to get some! Found a few suggestions on Yelp and decided on Dunes Restaurant since it served snow crab legs, had good reviews, and was super close to where we were staying. When I walked in, they had a counter where you could get your name on the wait list. Around that area was the cutest items! They had all sorts of beachy things, mermaid stuff and tons more. From glasses to decorative signs, I loved it! Even found a cute flamingo sign for my friend! I purchased the sign, took it out to the car and when I came back in, the table was ready! Food - Started with some yummy rum runner type of cocktail Then Ordered all you can eat crab legs that came with 2 sides as well as fresh hush puppies to start. The hush puppies were perfect! The crab legs were great and the sides I ordered, cole slaw and baked potato, were also yummy. Annnd a salad came out first! I was stuffed! The server was great. A tiny bit slow on the second helping of crab legs, but she was swamped with tables and she still was so nice and knowledgeable. Definitely would recommend this place if you're in OBX! read more

The Dunes Restaurant is one of our new favorite breakfast spots and one we will recommend to everyone we know! Even on a busy Saturday morning, the wait time wasn't astronomical - our party of 2 was about a 25-minute wait. While we waited, we had the opportunity to browse their very nice giftshop - not junky items, actually very nice decor and accessories. When we were seated, almost immediately, our very friendly waitress Katie F, greeted us and took our beverage orders. Coffee and water for us! A few minutes later she appeared with our beverages and we placed our food order. Sausage gravy biscuits for the Mrs. and The Whaler for the Mr. Being a very busy restaurant, our food arrived pretty quickly, about 15 minutes after placing the order. Let me explain - the food was amazing! The biscuits and gravy were amazing - soft, fluffy, and flavorful. The pancakes were light and fluffy. The home fries - amazing and well flavored. The bacon - the right amount of crispness. The eggs - cooked just right. $35 with tip for our meals and beverages - on the pricier side for breakfast, but so worth it! I was highly disappointed with my visit to this restaurant. It is normally pretty good in all areas, but this time it was different. The service was just awful. Our waitress was very stressed it seemed, and unless you asked for something she wasn't going to bring it or check in on you. The food was not well cooked, and someone in my family ordered a cheese biscuit which literally came out to be two slices of pasteurized cheese on the driest biscuit I have ever seen. There were about three waiters/waitresses serving literally every group in the whole large restaurant. There were over five hostesses at the front desk which were not highly needed. I really do hope that the next time I vacation in nags head that it is better because it is normally a very good breakfast spot. read more

Wanted to go to a "nicer" restaurant on OBX for our 25th anniversary but still casual enough to wear Sandals. The Dunes fit the bill perfectly. The hush puppies were excellent and our server Valentyna was extremely attentive to not just our table but other customers that she came in contact with. We went in the off season for breakfast where there was about a 10 minute wait. We browsed the gift shop where there were some super cute beach themed items. I ordered the shrimp and grits while my husband had the corned beef hash, eggs, and home fries. Mine came with Old Bay seasoned small shrimp, gravy, and bacon. If you don't like Old Bay, ask for no seasoning since it was a little spicy. Service was exceptional. read more
