Patrick the bartender is The Man!! The hush puppies were the best ones we ever had! The absolute best service in the OBX. We had a party of 9 (there was a 45 min wait) and the bar just opened up so we chose to take it over. They had no problem with us doing that and it was so fun. Patrick was so attentive taking drink and food orders. We were able to share 2 appetizers of each choice and that was more than enough. The hush puppies, fried green tomatoes, and shrimp and crab dip was really delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the assortment of entrees were all delicious. A good place for breakfast for many many years. This morning I tried the sausage and cheese omelet and for the first time was disappointed, as the sausage was not what they have always had and I enjoyed. It was tasteless and too crispy. This restaurant is open for inside dining using all the safety precautions. Serving an amazing breakfast & dinner located in Nagshead MP 16 it is worth the drive !! Highly recommend getting there before 9AM because it gets busy for breakfast!! Hostess greeted us nicely and seated us immediately. Waiter was very prompt and paid attention to details - my mom needs a lot of special requests and he didn't get aggravated - that right there makes all the difference! We ended up splitting the Belgian waffle platter. Food was hot and great! I also got chocolate chips on the side which made the waffle even better. Price was very affordable! First off I want to say the food was great! The waitress was not, she was completely rude. We asked if they did anything for someone's birthday she told us she refused to sing and she wasnt giving us free cake.. Our 13 year old daughter asked for an orange crush and where we come from its a soda pop so we didnt think anything of it, turns out it was orange juice and vokda...we mentioned to the waitress that our daughter was only 13 years old and we didnt know why she would give her that. She told us that it was our fault because we didnt correct her when she ordered it so she didnt see the need to ID her. We mentioned it to the manager and all he said is that he wouldnt have guess she was 13.. regardless if you are under 40 you are by law supposed to ID the person ordering alcohol. So if you go pray you dont get this waitress, but they do have really good food. read more

This is the ONLY restaurant I will eat a buffet at. They have an amazing breakfast buffet and it is stacked!! You can find anything from fruits, pastries, biscuits and gravy, eggs, all the meats and mini muffins!! They make a mean Bloody Mary and the best part is you can shop in the waiting area if they have a wait (they pretty much have a wait every day during peak season). One of the best spots in the outerbanks for breakfast in my opinion. If you visit the outerbanks you have to make a stop at the Dunes restaurant. These folks serve up more then generous portions and you will not leave hungry. We have never been disappointed when we visit this outerbanks landmark. Our server Stacy V was very accommodating and went out of her way to insure that all of our needs were met during our most recent visit to the outerbanks. FYI: For those of you who really appreciate the finer things of life the scrapple servered at the Dunes is spot on and not some bad interpretation of this breakfast side delicacy and goes great with the house Bloody Mary's. After waiting 45 minutes for a table, the food orders were wrong. Other than water our drink orders were never received. When the hostess walked by we has to ask for our waiter and her reply was he's very busy. After all of this we were given a bill of $145. Never again. read more

Writing this review specifically about our breakfast experience as we didn't have any other meals there on our trip. I was desperately missing Cafe Lachine which isn't around here anymore. The line at Sam and Omie's is always out the door no matter what day it is so we found ourselves at the Dunes one morning around 8:45 starving for breakfast. We were so pleasantly surprised by the quiet, chill atmosphere, super friendly staff, and good breakfast fare. We loved it so much my husband and I came back the next day with our kids so they could try the amazing buffet spread. It was perfect! Buffet prices are much higher than the regular menu but if you have kids, are hungry, and like to try lots of options it's worth it. Biscuits and sausage gravy are excellent, and selection of fresh fruit is really spectacular. And I can't say enough great things about the friendly staff! On checkout day we tried to come back a THIRD day in a row (Saturday) and it was finally super crowded with a line out the door at 10:30. We decided to skip it as it was a long wait. Lots of reviews about the great Hush Puppies. I have had plenty of them but none that ever tasted like Dunkin' Donut Munchkins. Normally cornbread, there was no sign of it. Dinner was less than good, very greasy not very appetizing. Our group ordered She Crab Soup, Seafood Alfredo, Flounder, Crab Cakes, and Calamari. We were so excited to try out this restaurant! I had never dined here and my friend knows the owners and has eaten here several times. We ordered our favorites and waited. The first round of plates were stone cold so we sent them back. The waitress brought out brand new plates which were just as lukewarm but we were hungry so did our best to make-do. My friend is allergic to eggs and her country ham reeked of them and my biscuit was so cold the butter wouldn't melt. I couldn't finish half my food. My friend complained to the manager and the waitress, who we felt sorry for because she's was running ragged, argued that we didn't complain s second time. My friend asked her what the point would be. The food kept coming out cold. Management gave us 25% off which was ridiculous.
