This was a nice dining experience! We ordered fried chicken, biscuits, shrimp and grits, and burnt ends, Mac and cheese, and greens. We enjoyed it all. We were a group of 4 that walked in and were able to seated rather quickly. Our server gave us great insight on the menu items. The drinks were okay, but they used syrup instead of pure so I couldn't really taste the blackberry in my drink.

The Eagle receives the GOAT AWARD today!! After my Door Dasher failed to follow the directions provided in the notes/instructions I had to pick up my order. I ran out without shoes, not quite appropriately dressed and the staff (in the middle of rush), SHOUTOUT SYDNEY, ran my food out to me. This was absolutely so so kind. The food was amazing! It had been a bit since I had The Eagle and it was as good as I remember and then some!! I love the vibe of OTR but don't love the parking so this was an amazing compromise. Thank you so much for fabulous service & going the extra mile.

I've been wanting to try The Eagle for the past 3 years and finally had a chance to do so this past Sunday. It was everything I expected and more. We shared the homemade spoonbread which was tasty. Hubby had the shrimp and grits and I the quarter chicken dark with mac and cheese and collard greens. The chicken was absolutely amazing (not too greasy) and the accompanying spicy honey was drinkable! The collards were also delicious although a tad overcooked. I devoured their rich/creamy mac and cheese. The only thing lacking at The Eagle is a banana pudding or red velvet cake I'll be back for sure!

This place continues to be a treat every time I go even though I usually only end up going a couple of times per year. I do realize it is a chain but so far they have nailed all the prerequisites of what they need to be a successful chain in my opinion. Definitely recommended to get reservations the day before as I don't believe they take reservations the day of. Ambiance is friendly and warm and service has always been really good! The food is the big highlight though. The food here is just plain amazing. The main course of chicken to all of the side dishes they have. The spoon bread to the sweet potatoes to the mac and cheese, it's all good. It is definitely one of the big reasons we go there. Looking forward to coming back again soon! Bring a big appetite.

whole chicken, fried chicken BLT, and mac and cheese

Okay, maybe it's because I'm from the South, but this "southern-style" restaurant just didn't really hit for me. It was packed on a Saturday night, so we opted to sit at the bar. Our bartender was really sweet and did a great job taking care of my family and answering all of our questions. We ordered a whole chicken and a fried chicken BLT with mac and cheese, biscuits, and fries. The sandwich... just wasn't fun at all. The chicken was dry and bland, and there was an off flavor that I think came from the bacon. My family was sharing the whole chicken, so I tried that too, and honestly, that was actually good. I definitely wish I had skipped the sandwich. The sides were all solid, but my favorite by far was the fries. Probably because they were herby and came with an aioli. The biscuits were a close second- you really can't go wrong with a warm biscuit and a generous layer of thick butter.

My wife and I were in Cincinnati for a long weekend and we had BBQ across the street from this establishment and it had a large line going out the door and we decided we had to try the next day. The trolley runs very close to this fried chicken mainstay and I walked into a packed place and we sat at the bar. There are some tvs along the wall that have sports on and a great beer list. I ordered and IPA and a fried chicken BLT sandwich that the bartender (Who was amazing) highly recommended. He was right! The sandwich came out quickly and the fried chicken patty was perfect and melded with the bacon and fresh tomato and greens. It was so good! I ordered another IPA and quickly was shown why this place is so busy. A must try.

Wow is this place good. I'm going to go in order of my experience that I had at the restaurant. So firstly, the service. I ordered a mocktail and a gentleman came and told me (so incredibly nicely) that they unfortunately didn't have the jam in the mocktail ready, which I was totally okay with, but momentarily came back with my drink!! I was so pleasantly surprised with the way I was approached about it as well as the drink itself. Now let's talk about the good stuff - the food. I got the hush puppies and omg were those fire. I also got the fried chicken sandwich. Don't even think twice about this one. Not too heavy and just the right amount of toppings. I know I said don't think twice about the sandwich but also don't think at all about the mac and cheese. Just get it. That'll all I'll say about that :) the southern chopped salad was also great. We weren't sure how we'd like the green beans and black eyed peas in it but all the elements complimented each other so well! I wish they had a restaurant in Florida because Cincy is a bit of a trek for me but for anyone in the area, DEFO check this place out. They also have more locations!

Haven't been here in a while and ordered takeout. Unfortunately I feel the quality has gone down. I got the chicken sandwich and it tasted unseasoned and bland. The redeeming factor was the biscuits. Those were amazing as ever.

I love going to dinner with friends at the Eagle OTR! Is the perfect place to have a picnic style dinner, and you know the quality of the food is going be great every time. When I go, I usually order dark meat for my chicken, then order a good amount of sides to share. I love the biscuits and surprisingly the sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top is great too. And if you know, you know, sweet potatoes and macaroni go together so well. When I think about the actual restaurant itself over all the times I've went the only bad thing I can say is sometimes there are long wait times. It's usually at night time and especially when there's an event going on. I'm not sure about the reservation policy if they take reservations or what but maybe that's something I can be more proactive about. Other than that, the staff is always great. It's a nice old Timey modern country feel. You can't really go wrong with the Eagle.

I have been wanting to try this place for so long after hearing people rave about it. I went in for lunch one day, and service was very good. Maybe I came on a bad day, but to me the chicken was very mid. It tasted like oil with not much seasoning. The spoon bread was very dry. The macaroni and cheese was the only dish I could say I enjoyed. I really want to come back and give this place another chance so hopefully this review can be fixed

Kale Salad with extremely tart dressing

Went to The Eagle at 3:30pm on a Saturday, expecting a mostly empty restaurant, but they were jumping! The decor was warm and cozy, maybe a little dated with the pallet wood ceiling. Our server was fantastic! Very friendly and he quickly went over the whole menu telling us what their most popular dishes and drinks were and what he recommended. My husband ordered the fried chicken with a side of mac & cheese. I had already eaten, so just got a small kale salad. He loved his chicken and I snuck a bite of his mac&cheese which was very good as well. My salad came dressed with a cider vinaigrette that was overly tart. The other ingredients were good but the dressing was so acidic, I couldn't eat much of the salad. Overall, we enjoyed our visit. I plan to go again and try a different dish.

Reservations highly recommended, as it is difficult getting a seat without one! But is it worth it. I made a 5:15pm reservation and was promptly seated upon arrival. Our server (I believe his name was Chandler??) brought drinks and helped with my menu questions. Lovely human! I went with the fried chicken breast sandwich, which I must say is one of the best I've ever had, and I am a chicken snob. The mayo that comes with the sandwich--get extra, so good! I also ordered the fries, and they were speckled with beautiful earthy green herbs and were accompanied by a marvelous aioli. My son went with the spicy chicken dip (comes with tortilla chips) and man, was it spicy!!! He loved it! I can't recommend this place enough. My only complaint was that we sat for a while before receiving beverage refills. 2 thumbs up and I will definitely be back! ;)

If you're craving crispy, juicy fried chicken and a laid-back atmosphere, The Eagle in Over-the-Rhine is the place to be. With both indoor and outdoor seating, it's a great spot whether you're looking to people-watch on a nice day or cozy up inside with a craft beer or cocktail. We arrived to find a two-hour wait. Luckily, we were able to snag seats at the bar rather quickly, which turned out to be a great choice--friendly bartender and quick service. We started with the spicy chicken dip, which had just the right amount of heat and was incredibly creamy--definitely a must-order if you like a little kick. For the main event, I had the fried chicken sandwich, and it did not disappoint. Perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and loaded with flavor. With a full bar featuring a great variety of craft beers, it's easy to find the perfect pairing for your food. Highly recommend--just be prepared for a wait, or grab a spot at the bar!

Do you have any outdoor area to eat and if so are dogs allowed?

....to catch exhaust fumes from the drivers by, yes. I think they have a dog dish near the entrance as well....so maybe. Call and find out.

Do they have a "kids menu"?

no they don't, but most of their menu is friendly enough for children that you could order anything and they would like it, including grilled cheese and fried chicken bits stuff like that

Does it take long to be seated? Is it always crowded?

Usually has a wait, but you can leave your name and cell number and they will text you. So you could go into area shops/bars while you wait.

    Is it Kid friendly?

I don't think so. It's the hip public seating where you share a table and everyone is very close together. So if you are worried about your kids being loud or rambunctious, this space will make you very uncomfortable. We had a baby in a car seat and…

I️ know they don't take reservations but do they allow you to call ahead and put your name in?

Just to add a little detail. Joshua P is right. The best strategy is to have someone go a little early to the podium at the front of the front of the restaurant and put their name in with the number of people. They will than take your phone number…

    Any gluten free options?

I'm sure you can ask, but I don't think there's any on the menu specifically

Do they have a pool table?

    No

They had parking, and although they were full on reservations, 2 spots at the bar opened up and we grabbed them happily! First, the food was FANTASTIC! The drink menu was extensive and looked so good but we were in a bit of a hurry and I'm 6 months pregnant so we settled for waters. Second, the service was excellent. They have a nice outdoor area, which we avoided due to the current heatwave. We ordered two apps - FRIED GREEN TOMATOES - Topped with Libby's pimento cheese, pork belly lardons, bourbon onion jam, and herb oil and FRIED CHICKEN SKINS - Hand breaded and served with hot honey dipping sauce. The fried green tomatoes were nicely plated, though the pork belly lardons and bourbon onion jam did not have the most pleasant color. They were good, but not as great as the description. Fried chicken skin is the thing! I first had it when we lived in California. An Asian market served them up thinly breaded and fried perfectly crispy. I just about jumped out of my skin when I saw it on the menu at Libby's. The breading at Libby's is thick. It's tasty for sure, but it's quite thick. A quick glance at the chicken skins and it looks like full-on chicken. Anyway, they were very good and I would definitely order them again. I had a taste of the hot honey dipping sauce because it spilled. It was good, but for me it detracted from the flavor I'm looking for. I had to have the FRIED BOLOGNA BLT - House smoked bologna, pimento cheese, fried egg, house made BBQ sauce, spring mix lettuce, & sliced green tomato on grilled 16 Bricks sourdough. First, it was huge! I could only eat half. It was very good. All the different flavors mixed together well. It was messy!! It was so obviously messy the server brought over extra napkins without us having to ask! Top Notch! Oh, the mac and cheese side was just okay. I barely touched it. The second half of the sandwich was delicious cold. It was also not messy at all. The leftover mac and cheese had turned inedible in the fridge. I did not mind throwing it out. My friend had the CLASSIC TURKEY CLUB. It was also huge and she only ate half. The fries were crispy and delicious. Mark had THE DOC HOLLADAY. He said it was okay. He also only ate half. I think he enjoyed the cold leftover more. I like the menu; lots of options. The place is cute. The staff is great. We'd definitely come back.

Having already previewed the just dropped summer menu, we had a pretty good idea what we wanted. Henry shared some specials and we got to to ordering. The tuna appetizer was a great start. Three different cuts of tuna with a peach and oil sauce. The fish was amazing with the slight peach flavor amping it up a notch. Great start. Next we had the pork belly skewer. The pork belly was grilled with a drizzle of Alabama bbq. The pork belly was so tender and flavorful. Again, plenty of smiles to go around. For the main course, we shared the fish and iberico mains. The fish this night was swordfish which was so flavorful and moist. The iberico was tender and, for me, the corn maque choux made the dish. I could have eaten a big bowl of that goodness! I visited twice this weekend, and both times, the staff accommodated my weird asks! I almost never order an entree except to split, and for brunch Saturday, the bartender allowed me to order a single waffle and some of the most amazing cream on the side (on the menu with the dessert waffle). Perfect portion and I swooned! All my beverages were fresh and tasty, but my favorite snack of the trip was their chips And guacamole. I took the extra chips (made fresh) and they were still crispy the next day. MAGIC!

The Goetta is a regional dish popular to the area comprised of sausage and potato fried like a smash burger. It was packed full of flavor and was nice and crispy. A must get was the biscuit and gravy. Unlike the southern style which is usually thick and creamy, this has amazing seasoning, plenty of the sausage crumble, and rich texture. The biscuit underneath was soft and savory and paired very well in this dish. The filet and eggs were perfectly cooked and had good flavor. There were a lot of diced potatoes on the plate to enjoy which was also well seasoned and crispy. Lastly the big easy omelette was very good. I do like the fact it was plated on top of a piece of toast. The biscuit and gravy along with the omelette gave a very strong New Orleans feeling. The cocktails also hit their mark. Local distillery Riff was the maker of the bourbon for the mule. I'm not sure of their lineup but it compared to Bulleit Bourbon. Very stable in the cocktail without being overpowering. The hard truth was a coffee with a punch and a great way to start a vacation morning. The restaurant was deceptively large from its outward appearance. There is lots of seating available and the tables moved swiftly. The large garage style doors allowed for full fresh air circulation and opens the brightness from the natural lighting. Being a corner location they were able to maximize on the opened interior dining experience. Overall 4.7 out of 5

Love. If I can use…read moreone word to describe my experience at Soul Secret, that's it. Love Amore Besotted Take great people (Melinda was our server and the chef came out to check on us...more about Melinda later)... Combine it with great food and great ambiance, and you get this restaurant! The first thing that you notice when you walk in is that it feels like home. Some restaurants focus heavily on decor and leave a lot to be desired in terms of ambiance, the people, and the food. And in other restaurants, you walk in and feel as if you can stay there forever. This is one of those places. We stayed there for a while. Imagine being in Grandmom's living room with pictures on the wall and positive music playing in the background. That's Soul Secrets. The menu is big enough to make sure that everyone can find something to eat, but not so big that you will struggle to make a decision. From fried catfish and grits to French toast to salmon croquettes and the largest pancake on Earth, there is something for everyone. My niece ordered the French toast, and my sister ordered a special breakfast that came with a pancake, grits, eggs, potatoes, and sausage. I was still hungry from last night's meal, (and you can read about it in another review) so I just nibbled off of my sister's meal. The French toast came out first, and I could tell immediately that the chef knew what she was doing. The rest of the food came out, and again, they brought the largest pancake I've ever seen. My sister was treating us today, and I was glad that the menu prices were very reasonable. My niece said that the French toast was delicious, and she ate as much as she could. She has a dance performance tonight and made sure that she didn't put her show at risk. It was difficult for her because the food was so good, but she managed and took a box home to eat it later. Yes. My sister nibbled on everything else and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the grits and some of the pancake, and I have to say that it was very difficult for me to stop eating because it tasted so good. The pancake was perfectly cooked and fluffy with crispy bits on the edge. The grits were creamy and flavorful, even without cheese. The coffee was great. I had several cups. All in all, it was arguably better than any breakfast I've had at any restaurant that serves it. Now let's get back to Melinda. So often, the dining experience can be directly related to the person that greets you when you take a seat. Thank goodness we were greeted by Melinda. She has one of those energies and personalities that makes you feel as if she has been in your family for years. Funny and friendly, but at the same time, dedicated to making sure that you have a good experience. Again, I felt like I was at someone's home rather than in a restaurant. She called me a "troublemaker," which means that somehow she was seeing the 20-year-old version of me instead of the person that I am today. lol So here's the summary. If you are in Cincinnati and you want a great meal, there are many restaurants to choose from. It appears to be a pretty decent restaurant town. But if you want to FEEL Cincinnati, while feeling right at home and having one of the best meals ever- Soul Secrets is one for the ages.

The staff were extremely friendly and seemed willing to actively engage with customers. It was a nice neighborhood spot. I ordered Mo's Rice Bowl, and it was generally well executed. Maybe a little bit more rice than it needed, but it presented a nice combination of flavors and textures. The pickled onions were well done. There was a relish type offering that rounded it out. The fried egg was a nice protein addition. Overall, the dish came together. I'm not from Cincinnati, but they apparently have a regional goetta dish. I ordered the vegan version, and it was really well done. Good on the restaurant for thinking to offer a vegan version. All told, this was an exception place. It's a little small, but there was essentially no wait to get a seat at the bar. Highly recommended.

They seated us promptly and immediately someone was taking drink orders. Our waitress was very kind, offered helpful recommendations, and made the visit fun. I ordered the goomba fromlette and my coworker got the chicken sandwich. We also ordered sides of potato pancakes and garlicky greens to share. The fromlette is huge! It looked so good and tasted even better! The vegetables in it were well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The cheese and sauce on top complemented all the flavors very well. And the eggs themselves that made the base were perfectly done. I ate it all and left feeling so full and happy. I also have to talk about the sides. The potato pancakes are heavenly, and I could make a meal out of just them. The outsides are perfectly crispy and the inside melts in your mouth. I am literally still thinking about them. The garlicky greens are also fantastic and actually were the same vegetables that came in my fromlette. I loved them so much I was happy to eat more. They are very savory, saucy, and hit the spot. My coworker also really enjoyed the chicken sandwich, and ate all of it even though it made her so full. I will for sure be back. This place is so cute and intimate, the workers are all so happy, and the menu has so many great dishes that I cannot wait to try them all!

Every aspect was wonderful, the service, our server Kelly, and food and exceptional. My husband had the crab cake. He commented it was the best he had ever eaten. I had the special of the day which was brisket with shrimp in a peach sauce, delicious and not real heavy, the veggies were really good. Unlike most patrons who exited with "doggie bags" (portions were generous), we ate all of our meals. Bread served was also delicious. The atmosphere was delightful, with the New Orleans vibe. Highly recommend. Can't wait to return. Make reservations!!!

The place is small and had a very weird vibe between fine dining and kitschy. White tablecloths, but then lots of purple and pictures of roosters everywhere (I realize the name, but hmmm). Our server was lovely but would disappear for too long between times when she should have been present. We ordered our drinks at 745pm, and I watched them sit at the end of the bar. Finally, at 805pm, I went to the bartender and said, "those are our drinks that have been sitting there for a while". Our server brought them over like we ordered them 5 minutes prior. But the lovely owner/manager came over and said the "drinks are on me" because we waited so long. We appreciated that! The fried chicken was good, but the breading was very salty. The green beans were almost inedible because they were so salty. The mashed potatoes were average. The biscuits were fantastic. The fried deviled eggs were okay. A regular deviled egg is better. The shrimp and grits had a lot going on. The shrimp was lightly battered and fried (?) and the flavor of the dish was bold. I think sauteed shrimp and a little less gravy would make it perfect.

SO so good…read more We started with the lavender lemonade mocktail -- which I absolutely added tequila to -- and it was smooth, refreshing, and dangerously delicious. 10/10 would order again exactly the same way. For appetizers, we got the whipped feta. Delicious, creamy, and perfect for sharing -- but fair warning: avoid the peppers if you're not into a little kick. They sneak up on you! My friend and I split the house salad and WOW. A complete showstopper. So fresh, the vinaigrette was bright and delightful, and those fresh bacon bits? Chef's kiss. It's rare that a house salad stands out like that, but this one absolutely did. Now let's talk about the prime rib. I typically do not like steak or prime rib... but our waitress recommended it as the best thing on the menu, and honestly the Yelp photos had already convinced me. When I tell you it was BOMB -- I mean it. So tender. So flavorful. Perfectly cooked. Paired with broccolini and mashed potatoes, it was a whole experience. To end the night, we shared the apple tart with cinnamon ice cream -- warm, sweet, comforting, and the perfect finish to an already amazing meal. Overall, this was a fantastic dining experience from start to finish. Great service, incredible food, and such a vibe. I cannot wait to come back.

I got the lavender lemonade mocktail which was delicious and refreshing without being too floral or soapy. For dinner I got the braised short rib which was so tender you could cut it with a fork. The bone marrow demi glaze I could have a bowl of that stuff is phenomenal. The broccolini was roasted perfectly but I felt the potatoes could've used more seasoning. My mother got the lemon chicken pasta, which was good at the time, but when she got home it did not sit well with her. All in all, I would come back for the short rib, and I hope Alara finds a new location soon. The inside is nice and romantic seating, but it is cold ... like bring a jacket and it seems it doesn't matter the season it is colder inside because I saw a google review that also mentioned the temperature of the dining room.
